Hotel Papa Germano - Rome

Nothing fancy, but a clean, safe place to stay. Shared bathrooms were always spotlessly clean, and hardly ever occupied. We felt the price was pretty hefty for a hostel, but booked late and couldn't find a better option. Rooms are noisy, with another hostel just outside the window, but with the shutters closed, we couldn't hear a thing. Our mistake really. Really good shutters. Walking distance from the main tourist attractions, plenty of restaurants, cafes and supermarkets in area, the staff can point you in the right direction. Internet is only available 7am to midnight, and only in the lobby. Occasionally wireless will work on the first floor, not reliably though, and the time restrictions still apply. Be sure to check prices when ordering food nearby, we found some of our bills doubled with 'bread and service' fees. They can spot a tourist a mile away, and will do their best to take you for a ride. Breakfast is 5 euro extra, per person, per day. The website was a bit vague on this.

My honest comment is that there are better hotels nearby providing better service and brighter looking rooms. The decor of the room at papagermano was depressing. I would not recommend it to a friend. Staff was cursory and did not appear very friendly.

Great location: Easy walking distance, with suitcase from main station. Friendly, helpful, professional personnel. Tidy, clean room. Okay breakfast costs extra. 3 or 4 Internet computers. Quite noisy outside in the morning. Overall great value for money. We were there in November, off-season. Recommend it without hesitation.

I was a bit concerned about the place to stay in Rome because I spent quite some time trying to look for a good place. I found Papa Germano and read all the reviews and they seemed to be ok.I must admit that all of them were true. The hostel is very clean and the staff was very friendly, warm and willing to help you any time needed. My sister, my friend and me thought that sharing a bathroom with other 2 rooms was going to be a problem but it wasn't. Rooms are distributed in groups on the different floors. Ours was on second floor to the left and there was a security door (locked) to access the 3 rooms. We had a triple with a sink to brush our teeth/wash our hands. There were two bathrooms for those 3 rooms and they were SPOTLESS CLEAN. I don't know how they did it, but everytime any of us used the bathroom you'd go again and find it very clean, like never being used before. You're given a set of keys (3 in total) with your room key. One for the front door (if you get to the hotel way past bed time, so there's no curfew, another for the security door to access thr group of rooms and the actual key to your room. Our room had 3 beds, a TV set, a closet with sheets, clean towels and a sink close to door (other rooms don't have sink). The A/C was included in the price so we were provided with the remote control to use it. Breakfast was not included in the price but we could enjoy it for just 5€ extra per person and believe me IT'S REALLY GOOD! I think the only drawback is that the place doesn't have an elevator, so climbing the stairs can exhaust you if you go to the last floor. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR OLDER PEOPLE / PEOPLE WITH ANY MOVILITY DISABILITY. The staff were great. Gino is in the morning, he's loud and funny, always with a smile and Claudio is in the afternoon, quieter but always friendly and ready to help you. The night guy was very quiet but nice as well. The Hostel is VERY close to Termini so that makes it a convenient place to stay.

GOOD HOTEL OFF A MAIN STREET WITHIN 20 MIN WALK FROM TERMINI STATION, PIAZZA REPLUBICA AND METRO, AND 40 MIN WALK FROM COLOSEUM, BREAKFAST NOT INCLUDED IN PRICE, SO BOUGHT FOOD IN NEARBY SUPERMARKET. SURROUNDING HOTELS WERE CHARGING A LOT LESS AND INCLUDE BREAKFAST, CHECK ON EXTRA CHARGE FOR AIRCONDITIONING AND STREET NOISE HOTEL PRICE WAS HIGH FOR WHAT OTHER SIMILAR HOTELS OFFERED
