Fantastic location -- walking to Trevi and Piazza Navona -- near bus stop -- couldn't ask for better. Beautiful room and quiet because there is no traffic in piazza. Helpful staff. Really nice breakfast.

Stayed 1 week. Splendid rooms, excellent service - restaurant: good food, but lacking atmosphere (turn down the lights - tourists like it dimmer and darker than Romans do.)

This was the most awesome location for a hotel. Couldn't ask for a better location!! We walked to everything from the Vatican to the Colosseum. The location also made it a quiet hotel, being that is shares the square of the Parliment building, no vehicles in the square. That also makes it a very safe place, with the police guarding the government building. The staff was most wonderful and helpful with all our needs. We arrived in Rome at 0800 and they let us check in at that time. That is very nice when you have just been up for 24 hours. I highly reccomend and would stay again, if it is a good price.

I can only recommend Nazionale to anyone who visits Rome - business or holiday. Location is just outstanding. Basta! Regardless of location, the hotel itself is nice, spatious and clean. The service is very friendly and welcoming. You can ask the staff about anything and they'll help you for free - nothing seems imossible. Yes - it is a bit expensive, but worth it to a large extent. Only thing that needs improvement: The lifts are a bit narrow, slow and slightly scary. I'll be back there again for sure.

Excellent location - showing a bit of age, but in a charming manner - need to ask at bar for a real cappuccino in the morning though, the one at the buffet is awful

It was about my 15th trip to Rome, but first time in Hotel Nazionale. We wanted to have a spacious room in quiet surrounding but still at very central spot. Nazionale fulfilled all the criteria excellently. Our room was huge, clean, tastefully decorated if you like old fashioned style. It had three huge windows facing piazza Montecitorio, which was quiet despite of construction work in Parliament house next door. We were looking for a roof top terrace for pre-dinner drinks, but closest one is in Hotel Minerva. Breakfast was nothing to be mentioned, nescafe cappucino and cold bites only, so we skipped that after first morning. Luckily there was plenty of choice just around the corner in any direction you decided to take.

We were given an upgraded room (#212) -- the room was huge, with top quality furnishings, a soaring ceiling entirely decorated in wood carvings, and a great view onto the piazza. We went in the off-season (late August, 2007) -- the A/C was very cool and comfortable, and the accomodations were fantastic.

Excellent location, excellent and spacious executive double room. My only complain was the noise made by the litter collection van at around 2am every night, otherwise the hotel and surrounding areas are very quiet. Not always easy to comunicate in english with some of the staff.

This was a very comfortable and welcoming hotel. We had a bit of a problem with room cleaning for one day but after that it was excellent. Wonderful location for walking around Rome.

As stated by others, the location was excellent and beautiful!! There are many dining choices within a short walk, and the restaurants close late. The room was spacious, considering that I booked for a single room. I paid $218, which is a little expensive, it could be well worth the money if they had made some investment to remodel the interior of the room. But if you like shabby chic style, you will love this place. Please be aware that this is no metro (A line) after 9pm if you come from the train station.

The Nationale is ideal for shopping and sightseeing. It has huge rooms with fascinating paintings, furnishings and decor. Staying there once is a great experience - second time you notice its faults. Its all fading and looking past its best, with creaky floors and noisy corridors. Good breakfasts, but go out for dinner... restaurant is not great. We'd still recommend it though.

Stayed in one of the deluxe rooms, which was absolutely stunning, very large room, beautifully decorated and a great view over the square. The staff were very welcoming, polite and efficient. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Altough the hotel may seem above average in terms of cost, it is worth every penny. Also fantastic location for sightseeing

A first class hotel with a first clas staff. Service was excellent - staff was very accommodating and polite. Worth the price to me since we stayed for a while, I wanted to be in an area convenient to everything in Rome.

The number one asset of this hotel is its location; just about everything is within walking distance. It is also quiet, because the square where it is located is restricted to traffic. The building opposite is a government department, so security is tight in the area. We stayed for three nights in August, which is officially low season. This meant that, I guess, around 20% of the shops and businesses in Rome were closed for holidays. Not a problem for us tourists though, as there were also quite a lot fewer Romans around. Even in low season, there are still plenty of shops and restaurants open in the immediate vicinity, although the hotel's restaurant was closed at the time of our visit. The Nazionale is certainly not cheap, but I would say on balance, it is fair value for money.

I and my wife visited Rome for vacation purposes for the (ca.) 25th time, and this hotel for the 7th time. Before we have stayed at Nazionale through travel packages. Of course this means that we both think that Albergo Nazionale is an excelent hotel. Since one purpose was some private celebration, we chose a de Luxe room for the price of 333 euro per room per night. The "de Luxe" meant: a really huge room (ca. 50 m2 with 6 m under ceiling) on the first floor (110) facing piazza Montecitorio (unfortunately the parliament building was covered due to renovation work). We got new bed linen every day! It contained a big original painting, a nice sofa for three to sit comfortably, one comfortable chair (should have been 2), a desk with one regular chair, and a small and old-fashioned TV-set. Judged from the photographs on the web, I expected more chairs. More importantly I expected access to a roof terrace which is presented in a video on the web. When I asked about it, they denied its existence (!). I believe that the terrace, which is clearly visible from the piazza, is reserved for those renting the roof suite only. This is my main negative comment - because the advertisement is cheating customers and should be removed! Everything else is close to perfect in this hotel: The reception welcomes you with your name and the papers are all ready waiting for your arrival; they speak excellent English (even though I like to practice my Italian); They help you to get tickets to concerts, book restaurant tables etc.; The AC is refreshing all 24 hours in all parts of the hotel; The breakfast is just excellent; and the classic renasissance style of the hotel lobby/bar is just something else (this is NOT plastic!). The hotel location nothing but perfect! Highly recommendable - also with standard rooms (which are considerably cheaper)! We'll stay there again - it's our first choice in Rome (I have stayed at 10 different hotels in Rome before).

Convenient location, I would stay there again if going to Rome. We booked a standard double but were given a superior room. There is building work going on at the moment on the property opposite which starts at 7.00am. Didn't worry us, but it might concern some!

WE have been in Rome on two previous occassions. This hotel was by far the best location we have experienced. It is central to shops, sights and facilities. The hotel was first class, clean, friendly and efficient. I was however, not impressed with the hotel restraunt, which was disappointing, especially at the prices charged. The hotel was expensive, but you got what you paid for which was location. The staff were friendly and efficient and helpful. The room was very nice in a traditional way.

We were very pleased with the hotel. Starting with the reservation procedure, the hotel was very cooperative in providing arrival and train information. The desk folks were very warm and helpful, arranged for a guide and did what was necessary. Our room was quite large and beautifully decorated. We had an amazing New Year's Eve dinner at the hotel. The ONLY complaint was the breakfast which didn't have as much variety as I would have liked. We also liked the location, around the corner from the Pantheon and a few blocks from the Trevi Fountain.

We spent two nights at the Nazionale in early September, at the end of three weeks in Italy. It was all the web site promised: the central location is great for visiting the historic center of Rome on foot; there is easy access to public transit just across the piazza; the staff are very helpful with all kinds of issues (room, taxi, restaurant, etc.) We reserved (and got) a deluxe room, which was on the fifth floor, and was spacious, clean, quiet, free of any trace of cigarette smoke, well appointed, and had a lovely view to the west (think sunset over St. Peter's). Our only complaint is minor: like most of Italy this summer, the exterior of the hotel (back side only) is covered in scaffolding, so our view was marred by having to peer through the scaffolding. This is a small and temporary thing in the big picture. Overall, the location and quality are worth the price, which is almost reasonable by Rome standards!

Nazionale was better than we expected. The location was superb, it is right in the heart of Rome and in a pedestrianised Piazza. It was only a 10 min walk to most of the top 10 sights. We discovered that the best ice-cream shop in Rome, "Giolotti's" was next door! In the street behind the hotel was a fabulous Jazz Cafe, that made you feel like you were on a film set! Prime location, friendly and accommodating staff and great value for money. We paid the price for a standard room and for some reason they upgraded us to an executive suite - fabulous. If we go back, we will stay at the Nazionale again, you really could not do better for comfort and location.
