Excellent price/value for Rome. Nicely appointed rooms and wonderful public areas, a unique large area for guests to use in groups (nearly an entire floor of the hotel). Concierge was always cheerful; remembers everyone's names, and the wait staff were always just great in restaurant/bar and breakfast rooms. Metro is just outside the hotel, which is otherwise a good long walk to most areas of interest (but if you love long walks in Rome, and I do, it's still very appealing). Free WIFI throughout the hotel saved me gobs of money and since I run a business and need internet access, that was a huge plus and compensated for the extra few taxi trips to the hotel's location (in Florence I paid 20 euro per day!!!). My only negative note would be the location and that the rooms do not have a view, but that's also part of why it's not 350 euro per night like the other hotels I've used that look out onto the Pantheon. An excellent value, and I never felt 'unsafe' in the area as a single woman traveling alone. A great value for budget-minded travelers who want a far better than 'budget-quality' hotel in Rome. And a nod to wheelchair-bound travelers, the elevators are too small to accommodate a chair without folding it, so you really must be ambulatory for this lovely hotel. One more note: GREAT lasagna!

The staff went out of their way to make sure that the requests made were acted upon correctly. We stayed 3 nights and on our 4th night had to stay at a hotel closer to the air port. You provided a free taxi to this hotel. That is great PR. Thankyou

This hotel has a very good location, approx. 15 minutes walk from the main train station. Very convenient if you travel alone as the hotel has a good, reasonable restaurant. The menu includes both pasta, pizza and fish- and meat dishes. They also had free wine tasting in the bar, inc. various snacks, offered to all guests. Very friendly staff.

It was a pleasure to stay at this family owned Hotel in Rome. Location so close to the Metro was excellent, as were the staff at this hotel. We could not have chosen a better hotel in Rome.

Very comfortably - with the Metro just in front of the entrance but the surroundings a bit poor ( no restaurant, no bar, very dark in the evening) even if Piazza Vittorio emmanuele could be very beautyful. Porters vers gentle (f.e. organizing date for Villa Borghese Museum, give hints für reaching Ostia or Tivoli...)

Mature couple stayed October 2008. Free transfer airport to hotel door. 45€ return expensive. No coffee/tea making facilities in room. Otherwise excellent for rating of hotel. Breakfast good service, some hot food but good choice of fruit, pastries and breads; cold meats and cheeses. Dinner; excellent service and choices at range of prices, starters from about 4€, 1st course from 9€ , food very palatable. Good selection of wines. Reception staff v helpful. Situated with Metro access 50mtrs. Main station, taxis and buses about 10 mins. Lounge well furnished and comfortable with reasonably priced lounge bar adjacent. Complimentary wine/ cheese tasting on final evening. Would certainly stay again.

Overall the stay was very good and the senior concierge is faultless. I have two less positive comments: we contacted the Napoleon to ask what they could do to make our daughters 21st birthday trip special, they said they would put a bottle of bubbly in her room; it was not there apparently because we booked though Venere and not directly with the hotel. I had 40 minutes of frustration trying to get the evening concierge to book a limo to collect my husband from the incoming BA flight: he insisted it had already landed due to an error on the Airport website and did not take me seriously till I phoned BA long distance to confirm the arrival time and then enquired if he wanted to explain to my husband why no-one was there to meet him - Not an ideal Hotel for Women only I suspect..... On the plus side the very quirky local restaurant he organised when he realised he had been unhelpful was full of entertaining local characters - not a place we'd have gone into without being recommended.

The hotel is quite expensive, but the quality and the service are excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English and German. My son got sick during our stay and the staff were ever so attentive and helpful. The room was quite small, but as we didn't want to stay there in the daytime that was no problem at all. It was very quiet, too, no traffic noise or so, but it did have a door to the neighbouring room so that you could hear everything in there, and for some days we had some very talkative American girls that woke us up in the middle of the night because they came home late or the phone rang at 4 o'clock in the morning. That was a bit annoying. When they left and we had new neighbours there were no problems. There is a metro station just outside the hotel so you are in the city in no time.

We are a fmily of five and reserved two rooms requesting them to be near each other and they were not. As a matter of fact due to an unusual layout of the rooms there aren't triple rooms near double rooms. I had e-mailed the hotel directly when I booked the rooms and I feel that this should have been told to me. We would not rate this hotel as four stars. The pictures on the web do not acurately show what the hotel and it's surroundings acutally look like.

Very nice old-fashioned hotel. Not the most fashionable neighbourhood though, even if the metro station was right next to the hotel. The hotel concierges (at least four in total) were extremely friendly and recommended some very cosy inexpensive trattorias. The new year eve dinner at the hotel restaurant was very nice, as was the wine-tasting and the gift brought to the room before that. The hotel staff were not all fully up to their tasks. This was however not disturbing, but even amusing. Ten points to the cleaning lady. The breakfast buffet was great. The room was spacious enough, even if the bathroom was exceptionally small. Good to have a free internet connection at the lobby, as well as newspapers in four languages.

.This turned out to being an excellent location. When we first arrive via the compliimentary shuttle, and saw the security doors etc down and just the first impression of the overall area, we were a bit sceptical, but the hotel, the staff and everything about it swayed our thinking and it turned out to being an ideal location. With the metro so close I think 40 metres from the front door, the whole time we spent in Rome was excellent and we had no probs. Everyone a the hotel was very helpful and John Carlo at the front desk nd his collagues were very helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast was excellent and staff friendly. Would reccomend the Napoleon to those who wish to travel to Rome.

It is a lovely older hotel, very gracious, though the immediate area is a bit scruffy -- street vendors' stalls and graffiti. We loved the restaurant where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner and excellent and genteel service. The breakfast was fine and adequate. Unfortunately, we did not realize there was an AC unit -- it was high up on the wall -- until the next morning and slept quite uncomfortably with the windows open to the street our first night there. Since the bellman takes you to your room with the key (and expects and gets a tip), I think he should point this out to guests and offer to show how it works! It required a remote which was on a desk and the next morning, after noticing the wall unit, I asked the chambermaid for help, which she gave us. The front desk is formal and efficient but not overly friendly and welcoming. It was an easy walk to Santa Maria Maggiore where we caught the sightseeing bus. We also walked in the evening to the Colisseum -- a longer walk but worthwhile to see at night lit up. We never felt in any danger in that area. We had also walked from the main termini stazione to our hotel -- likely made a few wrong turns but asked for help and locals were friendly.

The staff is very friendly. The hotel is in a relatively convenient area (there is a Metro stop in front of the hotel). While I was in Rome to see the city it did not bother me that my room was so small; however, the bed was not very comfortable and the room very noisy (I could hear other doors opening and closing). Also, I was told when I made my reservation that a shuttle to the airport would be complimentary as I was staying 3 nights. When I attempted to make arrangements for the shuttle I was told that it would cost 50 euros as the free shuttle deal only applied to double rooms (I had a single). That caveat was not disclosed to me and was disappointing. The staff member did give me the schedule for the express train that goes to the airport, and since the Termini station is so close to the hotel it was not a big deal, but still disappointing. Also, I ate one evening at the hotel bar and was not impressed (even for bar food). Overall, the place is okay, but if I return to Rome (and I hope I do), I would most likely look somewhere else first.

After reading previous comments we were a little anxious arriving at our hotel, particularly regarding the friendliness of the staff. We were very pleasantly surprised to find all the staff, especially the concierge, extremely helpful. Whilst our room admittedly had no view, facing the inner courtyard this was not a problem for us as we spent so much time sightseeing. It was also especially relaxing to sit in the charming residents lounge or at the bar which was not overly expensive. We must say the hotel exceeded expectations, we had a 4 night stay and would certainly stay there again when in Rome.

Out of three hotels we stayed on our rtip to Italy this is the only one where we would not come back. The reception clerk that we met at check-in was not friendly and helpful at all and seemed to have some attitude. Our room was very small, wardrobe space was insufficient, the view from the window was just disgusting. We were willing to move to a better room even if we'd have to pay more but reception person refused in a rather impolite manner. We are a dinner at the hotel one night and have to admit the food selection, quality and prices are quite good. But they seemed to be very understuffed with waiters and we had to wait a really long time for our order to be served which is not convinient when you dining with a 5 months old baby. Same issue of the hotel being undestaffed applies when you go to eat breakfast as well as housekeeping. Even though location is pretty good we would not stay there again.

Nice classical hotel Wi-Fi only available in lounge (not in the room), but someone played the piano in the very large and cosy lounge, like in old movies, so that was worth working on my laptop here! And the Swedish barmaid is really kind.

The hotel is well-located with the Metro station and a newsagent selling Metro/bus tickets at the front door. Termini is only a few minutes' walk away. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and efficient. One annoying thing was that the hotel restaurant was closed for the 3 nights we stayed (Monday to Wednesday in early February). While there was food available from a 'light menu' the choice was poor and the quality nothing special. We were travelling with a baby and an adult with limited mobility, so not having the option of dining properly at the hotel was a significant drawback and there was no discount offered to compensate for the restaurant we expected to use not being available. We did find some nice trattorie around the square, however. One thing to bear in mind for those with mobility issues or with young children is that there are 4 or 5 stairs to climb before you reach the first of 2 lifts you tale to reach the bedrooms from reception, but this was hardly an inconvenience at all.

the hotel is just a few blocks from the main train station which makes it very handy for people coming by train - flying in and taking the train from the airport. we had a room on the 6th (top) floor which was clean, exceptionally quiet and very spacious. the hotel bar and restaurant are only average but you dont need that in rom really. the guys at the reception were very helpfull, altogether I can fully recommend the napoleon if you look for a calm place to return to after a full day / night out in rom.

An unusual layout, but secure,& lifts to each floor;our rooms overlooked an inner courtyard and were quiet and the airconditioning worked. Pick up from airport was excellent as a first time visitor to Rome.Hotel resturant was v-good and staff friendly, also helpful at suggesting other resturants and tours. At first sight thought hotel was in a run down area of city because of all the graffiti on surrounding buildings. (I now know this is a common sight in Rome) However once inside it was clean, comfortable, cosy and well placed for sightseeing. A Metro station right outside door and easy to use unlike some other cities. The hotel itself is an old building and looks a bit tired and worn in places. Hotel was also fairly quite considering it is on a main road. Once inside you can forget you are in the middle of Rome. We found the staff to be very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Only negative comment would be that there limited restaurants etc that you can walk to from hotel. The popular eating areas are really only accessed by a taxi on an evening as we were advised not to use the metro by night, due to pickpockets. I would recommend this hotel to others.

Hotel is on a perfect location. 5 Min walk from station; 15 minutes walk to Collosseum, just next the tube station (line A) to have a short ride to Vatican, Espagna, etc. Plenty of Restaurants can be found in short walking distance. Hotel was absolutely quite, common facilities were ok, stuff friendly and helpful. Hotel style is a bit "old fashion" equipment is old but everything is in order and ok, showers hot.

The hotel had an air of fading grandeour and had a classicaly elegant feel to it. The staff were welcoming, friendly, polite and efficient. Facilities were very good and the breakfast provided was of wide variety and should cater for all tastes. We did not try the restaurant as we were out and about till late in the evening sight seeing. The rooms were large, all seem to have double beds and were well appointed (safe included) and clean. My friends air conditioning system developed a leak but this was fixed immediately once reported. The air conditioning was not noisy at all.The concierge kindly provided us with a map of Rome on which he marked the best routes to take to reach the attractions. This we found an excellent resource as the street signs in Rome can be misleading. The hotel was perfectly placed to make use of the underground system as a Vittorio Emmanuel station entrance is right in front of the hotel. The Colosseum and Forum were about a 15 to 20 minute walk away. There were some decent shops, cafes and eateries in the surrounding area and a park across the road which contained Roman artefacts. Spirit drinkers beware though, ordering a spirit with a mixer in the same glass is obviously not common and you will be charged as if you had ordered a cocktail. Order a straight spirit and get your mixer seperately to save some cash. When visiting the vatican be careful where you queue, you could end up on a one way round trip to the cuppola. The top of the dome, vertigo sufferers will not appreciate the return journey down narrow, steep and curving staircase with no hand rail.By all means, folk afraid of heights go up as far as the veiwing gallery inside the dome but do not go through the small door on the left which leads you up a precipitous climb up the dome and to the wonderful views from the top of St. Peter's Basillica.

Nice Hotel. Interior was pleasant, staff were good too. Reception towards young people could be improved - clearly used to accomodating for older people. We had a very pleasant stay at the hotel, we found ourselves conveniently located to visit the attractions of Rome. The graffite on the surounding properties was a little off-putting when we first arrived but it did not effect our stay. The room was fine internally but the view from the window was of the fire escape which, again, was a little off-putting at first, but as we only had 3 nights in the room we did not let it effect our stay.

We received very good service from the staff. They were willing to give us a room even though we checked in quite early. Unfortunately, the noise from the cleaning staff interrupted our jet-lag induced nap. Our room next to the service elevator was somewhat noisy during the afternoon, though I don't consider that the fault of the hotel. The staff also helped us find other lodging at slightly reduced rates when they didn't have a room available for us to spend an extra night The hotel is quite convenient to the Coliseum and the Metro. We were not able to find particularly noteworthy shopping nor restaurants in the immediate vicinity. It is a good value hotel, if you don't mind walking several minutes to find good restaurants, shopping, etc. Some call the area "seedy", but I don't think so. It is just less touristy than other locations. Service at the hotel bar was rather spotty. We had to wait for someone to appear before we could be served or get our check. Only a problem if you plan to spend your time drinking at the hotel. Otehrwise, not a big deal. Overall, it was a good hotel at a reasonable price for Rome during the off-season. I'd be a little more hesitant, though, to spend much more for it during high season.

We also like the wine taste evening. It was very nice to talk to other guests of the hotel and the staff. OVERALL OUR STAY HERE WAS GREAT. WE HAD A TRIPLE ROON AND WE WERE ON THE 6TH FLOOR WHICH I THINK WAS THE ONLY ROOM THERE SO IT WAS VERY QUIET EVEN WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN. THE ROOM WAS A BIT SMALL BUT ADEQUATE BUT THE HAVE A HUGE BATHROOM COMPARED TO A LOT OF HOTELS THAT I'VE HEARD. THEY HAVE A FULL BREAKFAST WHICH WAS NICE YOU JUST HAVE TO GET THERE BEFORE 10 AM. THEY ALSO HAVE A FREE SHUTTLE TO AND FROM THE HOTEL WHICH WAS VERY CONVENIENT AND A LOT OF OTHER HOTELS DON'T OFFER THAT. THEY ALSO HAVE A COMPUTER WITH INTERNET CONNECTION IN THE LOBBY IF YOU HAVE TO CHECK YOUR E-MAIL BUT BUT I WOULDN'T RECCOMEND IT TO BROWSE THE INTERNET AS IT IS VERY VERY SLOW. THE METRO IS JUST IN FRONT OF THE HOTEL AND IF YOU NEED MONEY EXCHANGE, YOU CAN GET IT AT THE HOTEL WHICH WAS CHEAPER THAN ANYWHERE ELSE WE WENT AS THEY DIDN'T CHARGE A FEE NOT LIKE ALL THE MONEY EXCHANGE PLACES. THE HOTEL WAS A LIITLE FAR FROM THE CENTER OF ROME BUT IF YOU DON'T MIND TAKING THE BUS OR THE METRO, IT IS PERFECT. HOWEVER IT IS WALKING DISTANCE TO ST. MARIA MAGGIGORE, ST. GIOVANNI CHURCH. ONE THING THOUGH, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND FOR YOU GUYS TO TAKE THE BUS OR THE METRO IF YOU HAVE BIG LUGGUAGES AS IT IS SUCH A PAIN ESPECIALLY THE METRO DOESN'T HAVE ANY ELEVATORS AND RARELY HAVE ANY ESCALATORS SO YOU'LL HAVE TO DRAG YOUR THINGS UP AND DOWN THE STAIRS!!!! I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY. ALL IN ALL, OUR STAY THERE WAS GREAT. HOPE THIS HELPED AS MUCH AS THIS SITE HELPED ME DECIDE ON WHERE TO STAY. THANK YOU VENERE!

This is a write up I posted on the website of 'Trip Advisor' website relating to The Napoleon Hotel: We had pre-arranged with the hotel for a courtesy pick-up at the airport and were met by a nice old boy in an old Merc limo – a nice, comfortable way to arrive in Rome. As I spoke a bit of Italian, our driver pointed out a few landmarks on the way. The hotel check-in was smooth and pain-free. The staff were all very polite, courteous and helpful. We found the hotel to be spacious and comfortable with tasteful furnishings. It had a very large and comfortable lounge. The breakfast room was large and there was plenty of choice to suit everyone’s taste. The restaurant was small but very pleasant. During our stay we had one evening meal in the hotel restaurant which was very nice and very a reasonably price. For the other evenings we asked the Concierge to recommend a nearby restaurant and his recommendations were very good and only 5 minutes’ walk away. Our room was very comfortable (Room 318) and very spacious. However, I think this room was often used as a family room as I did notice the room next door had an extra single bed in it. It was a quiet, light and airy room and the air conditioning was very controllable, efficient and quiet when running. There was plenty of room for hanging clothes and storing suitcases. The bed was large and very comfortable. We did not have a nice view from the windows but this was made up by the quality of the room. The bathroom was very modern and clean (with a hairdryer for the ladies). The only quirky thing about the room was that the shaver socket for the men was in the bedroom (not in the bathroom). It was located next to the bathroom in the wardrobe/dressing area although there was a mirror nearby which could be used while shaving. The hotel was very well situated for walking to many of Rome’s famous landmarks and there is a Metro station right outside the hotel door. There are a few shops very close by if you

We used the hotel dining room on one occasion and wished we had ate there more often after an appalling meal at another location. The staff were very cooperative, polite and friendly

We had a very nice time in the hotel "Napoleon" and I will for sure recommend it further to my friends. Especially the location was very good: On the one hand everything could be reached by feet but on the other hand it was a silent neighborhood. Thank you for the nice time.

The staff at the Napoleon in Rome provided my family and I with a very nice experience. The staff was helpful and the breakfasts were the most satisfying we found in all our travels in Italy. Having the Metro (local train) stop right outside the entrance was a huge plus. The plaza in front was a little seedy (especially in the evenings), but it is a great central location.

We were very satisfied with our stay in the hotel - I was there actually for the second time; I happened to come there on a business trip and came back for holiday. The hotel offers a very pleasant and personal atmosphere and peaople there are really friendly.

Nice location - all the must-see targets can be reached by walking. Subway line accessible directly in front of the hotel. Rooms are clean & OK, staff is friendly and multilingual. Breakfast good too. But would'nt recommend restaurant - quite expensive and very simple.

The quality of welcome and service was first class.Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they helped ensure our stay was memorable. Also the restaurant food/service was excellent, which combined with the closeness of the Hotel to the city centre means we will definitely return. Many thanks to Hotel Napoleon and Venere.com

The recepient at the information desk hasn't been very friendly. In addition we noticed that our luggage and moneybags have been "inspected" by someone during our absence, a fact which didn't surprise and disturb the recepient at all!!

The bed is too old and not comfortable. But there's a nice restaurant in the hotel with delicious food and fair price. Also good to have free internet service available.

We could not have been any happier with our stay. We would stay there every time we went to Rome! The location for getting around is probably second to none. They have a wonderful European breakfast buffet which really gives you a good start for the day. Thank you NAPOLEAN!

An excellent, good value for money hotel, at a good central location. Hotel clean and quiet. A good selection at breakfast - the basic restaurant is worth a look at the "Manuel" type waiter for your evening meal if you are in Rome for a few days - quite good fun unless you are in a rush!!!

Honestly, this hotel had a couple of positives going for it. Its location is excellent. The metro (with its access to the rest of the city) is only a few steps from the hotel entrance. It is also conveniently close to the main rail station (Termini). The breakfast buffet offered was pretty good, with quite varied choices. However, the rooms did not meet with our expectations. The shower in the bathroom was the smallest we had ever seen in our lives. We had difficulty showering comfortably, and overheard the same comments from other guests. The bed was too firm and overall room cleanliness could be improved. The front desk could have been a little more welcoming and helpful. Overall, we would not be returning to this hotel nor could we honestly recommend this property to others.

Very welcoming, helpful and pleasant staff. Quality and location for price paid was very good for European city. Rooms small but clean and well kept. Evening meals in Hotel restaurant very good value (3 courses plus bottle of wine for 2 less than €50) - but as restaurant small, early booking is essential.Courtesy car from airport to Hotel make transfer easy after potentially long journey. Hotel located only 10 minutes walk from Colliseum and Forum in one direction and Terminii in the other.

Conviently located by Metro station but most of the awesome sights of Rome were easily accessible by foot. Staff very friendly & helpful, particularly on reception and the breakfasts were great. Hotel communal areas were very tastefully decorated & rooms were most spacious. Would definately stay here again.

Enjoyed our second stay this year. Bonus was the courtesy car from the airport. Location (although not very salubrious)is within walking distance from all sights (apart from the Vatican) and the Metro. Beware of 'children with babies' on the Metro at Termini! They take a fancy to your wallets etc.

Nice hotel, excellent location for sightseeing (metro entrance just in front of hotel, tram to Trastevere in 5 min. walking distance). Breakfast very rich compared to usual italian standards. Excellent price/qualtity relationship. Everything worked fine and we were very happy staying there.

Hotel Napoleon was a nice hotel but perhaps a little dated in terms of decor and style. It therefore in my opinion would rate a 3 star rather than 4 star. The location was good because the metro stop was right outside the hotel door, not however in the nicest of areas. Very close to Termini Station but not a suggested walk.

The room was a bit small and although there was no noise from the street it was easy to hear my neighbors. Service in the restaurant was a bit sloppy but the food was OK. Our welcome was was a bit chaotic and the porter somewhat abrupt and brusque. Generally the welcome I felt at this hotel was 5/10 The location was very good for getting in and out of Rome

This hotel is beautiful. A complete surprise. It has that olde world charm about it. The staff were excellent & showed genuine concern when i had some sad news from home. The hotel has excellent public areas & a great bar offering reasonable prices for drinks & snacks. I didn't try the restaurant but it looks great. Location is quite good if you want to use the Metro. You can go anywhere in Rome from your front door. Its not the better side of the city but most places are within walking distance. Price was very reasonable! I would stay there again.

We we're very well surprised with our stay in Rome in this particular hotel. Not only a driver brought us from the airport to the hotel, also our luggage was taken care of. Service which is not common nowadays. Great, recommended!!

The Napoleon was a great value: clean, spacious room with large bath, most major amenities. Best breakfasts we had in Italy. The concierge wasn't as helpful as s/he might have been, didn't seem to know much. The location was excellent in some ways -- walking distance to Colosseum, metro stop directly in front of hotel -- but it was not in a neighborhood where things were open at night, few restaurants nearby.

The Hotel Napoleon offers spacious rooms near the Termini. There is no traffic noise but there is some interior noise from other hotel rooms. Service is excellent. The area around the Termini is a bit spotty, but not bad. One can easily walk to the Forum, etc. Considering the prices in Rome, this is a good place to stay.

We had a most enjoyable stay in Rome enhanced by the quality of the Napoleon. The double room was a very good size - even enough space to sit and read in comfortable chairs. The bed was large but a little hard. A request for more pillows was dealt with immediately. Brekfast was plentiful and varied. We also ate in the dining room on several evenings. A varied menu with an adequate wine list. We will stay there again when we next go to Rome. Proximity to the Metro gives easy access to all of Rome and the Termini station although it is only a 10 minute walk to the station.
