This was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The room was so clean you could eat off the floor and very spacious and quiet. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful in every way. I just can't say enough good things about my experience. This will always be my first choice when staying in Rome. Thank you and hope to be back again soon!

Convenient location, excellent breakfast, modern rooms, helpful staff, and so on, but the funny smell in our room just was a big turn off. It stunk so bad. The first day was worst. The smell of cigarette smoke saturated in the bedding and the mattress, and couldn't pinpoint exactly where but had a stinky foot smell. The hall way, too. We though maybe it's just ours, so we asked other people. They said the same thing. Even the great breakfast couldn't compensate for that peculiar odor, unfortunately. The mattress Was pretty worn out with the sunk center and poking springs.

We really see an improvement in the area around the Central Termini. We felt safe at night with easy walking to sights. Also love Cecio restaurant across the street. Maryelen is a sweetheart - very helpful with lost luggage and contacting our family in Italy.

The hotel is conveniently located - near the Termini station, but in a relatively quiet street and this suited our needs perfectly. The room was a little old fashioned, but perfectly clean and comfortable and the shower functioned very well - a small, but important detail. It was priced very fairly and the owner and her staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating. We will certainly stay again when we are next in Rome.

The hotel was very very nice, however too much for us in terms of money, because we did not enjoy the hotel itself, we were out all day. However the hotel does not have anything interesting to stay there, so a hotel only for sleep I found it to pricy. However it has perfect connection with everything because it is very close to the main station. I would say that is a safe choice, pricy but cozy, clean, quiet, perfect to rest of the exciting Rome. The owner is always there and she is great! She gave us breakfast before the time scheduled and that was very thoughtful.

Lordana and her family were so good to us and anything we needed or needed to know was given to us with a friendly smile. The room was beautiful, quite spacious for Italy standards and the little balcony terrace looking out over the courtyard was a lovely touch. It's very close to Termini Station and was very easily found. I will definetely be coming back to Rome and staying at this lovely place when I return.

Our second stay at this property was another great experience. Staff are warm, caring, efficient and helpful - just really nice people! Renovations recently completed. The place sparkles, just like the staff. Rooms are super clean and comfortable. Free wifi in public areas. Great breakfast selections. Very convenient to Termini train station (two blocks), Metro and bus depot for getting around Rome, airport and farther afield sites. Easy walk to Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, St. Peter in Chains Basilica, Baths of Diocletian. Quite doable, but more energetic, walk to Colosseo, Roman Forum, Trajan's Forum, and Campodiglio. Tons of restaurant choices in immediate area. The only hotel we will use when in Rome - feels like staying with good friends.

The problem is the bathroom. Ok, it is small, very to small but the shower has no pression and not really place to suspend anything. I suppose they have better room. But the welcoming was perfect and Loredana is a charming person.

The hotel was excellent and our hostess was superb, she really cared about her guests, I have stayed in Rome many times and i would say this is some of the best service I have received. The location was very convenient to catch tours, and a very short walk from the train station, staying at this property was a pleasure and the staff were very pleasant and eager to please. We would indeed stay here again.

Very nice place, and excellent value for the price. Quiet close to the main train station, an easy stroll even with luggage. The staff was very helpful when we asked where something was and provided a good map for easy walking. This was our second city during our trip and the first place we met up with our luggage (after 4 days). They kindly secured it in our room while we were out. Dining tips were welcome and accurate. We would happily stay again.

We loved the welcoming atmosphere and the helpfulness of the staff, once they realised we spoke very little Italian. The breakfasts were the most amazing spread of food, and plus the personal service with the meal made it very special and unique. Thanks for making our stay in Rome special

The reception staff r generally very warm & welcoming. The location is very near to the Termini. But if u arrive late at night when all doors r closed at the termini, it'll take quite awhile to find the place. The room size is big, but toilet is really tiny. The bed is not as comfortable, kind of hard; and the pillow is almost flat when u put ur head on. TV is tiny & far away on the wall. No internet /Wifi in room, only available at reception area. I wouldn't say it is a comfortable stay, but since it is a 2star, can't expect more.

Excellent - friendly and efficient staff, who gave a warm welcome and lots of help and recommendations. Not the prettiest location, but only 100 metres from Termini, and 10 minutes walk to the centre make up for that. And any hotel that serves cake for breakfast is ok by me! Recommended.

It's not a B&B as shown in Venere's hotel description, it's a fully qualified 2-star hotel, rooms equipped with fridge and noise protection windows, and registration desk open 24 hours. It is now my preferred hotel in Rome. I'll check next time whether rooms are available before considering any other option. I'll recommend visiting the hotel web page http://www.hotelmaryelen.com/ - it's more appropriate than Venere's description

Loradana and her staff were so very welcoming! The warm hospitality showed to our group of 8 was simply amazing! Our rooms were great and so was the area--very convenient to metro, buses and trains. We stayed at the hotel for a few days before our cruise and when we returned after our cruise, our welcome was as to returning family members! We will definitely choose Maryelen and Giovi on our next trip to Rome--never in all our travels have we found such warm hospitality! Doris and Tony Palermo, Cape Cod

Excellent location, only 3 min walk to Termini and 10-15 min walk to the Forum. Surprisingly quiet, punctuated with sweet chimes from Santa Maria Maggiore. Friendly people, good location very central. This hotel is very convenient. For a reasonable price we enjoyed a comfortable and quiet room with large bathroom and view over a courtyard. The proximity to Roma Termini railway station plus good restaurants (Cecio opposite is our favourite)makes this an excellently located hotel. The recently renovated rooms are bright, airy, spacious, warm/ cool (airconditioning/ additional heating)and very comfortable. The breakfast included meat and cheese plus a selection of cakes and a good cappuccino. The availabiity of a small library of Rome guide books and maps was much appreciated. We will definitely return (this was our second visit).

The good thing of this hotel is that if you travel by plane, bus or train Termini station just around the corner. Bus shuttle to Fiumici airport departs from Termini station ( opposite side) about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. That's the best thing about the hotel. It's the starting position for many local buses. Connection with the reception is very poor, you have to exit the elevator which is almost in the courtyard. There is no phone in the room so it's not suitable for single traveler. The rooms are in the part of the third floor, you have to lock and unlock the door each time you go in and out which usually makes noise. The rooms isolation is not good and you often hear people in neighboring rooms. This isn't good especially during the night.TV programs are only Italian, my TV was out of order anyway. The breakfast was good first day, but from my second day of stay the bread wasn't fresh any more. My departure was very early in the morning and didn't get anything like early breakfast or packed lunch. A day before I was told they will prepare something. Besides, the elevator was out the order and I had to carry my suitcase 3 floors ( 2 staircases each store), I couldn't ask for help because there is no phone in the room and the reception is not easily available. The night receptionist knew that it was stuck in the fifth floor. No words of excuse or sorrow came from the hotel staff.

Madam Loredana is a great host. She gave us a nice welcoming and she was always available for helping us. The hotel has a good location, near railways station Roma Termini. From the hotel you can reach any interesting place of Roma . The rooms are not very large but it's ok for short term tourist. The hotel has been upgraded and renovated in the past couple of months. Their breakfast appears to have been greatly expanded and the dining room is much larger than the pictures I saw a few months ago, and from the reviews I read at the time. WE stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect for sightseeing, dinner and access to the trains/busses. It is only 2 blocks from the main train station. The hotel is extremely clean and the rooms are a nice size. We were on the 5th floor where the morning breakfast is served so if you like to sleep in, ask for the lower floor. It didn't bother us because we were early risers anyways. There is lots of internet cafes and laundromat is across the street. We felt safe in the area, however only go to the left of the hotel when going any place as if you go right two block the buildings are covered in grafitti and looks like the ghetto. If you go left, all the restaurants etc are there and there are lots of hotels. The people staying there were great also from all over the world. The hostess and her daughters served us a very nice breakfast and excellent cappacino. We would definitely stay there again the price and location are excellent. Yes, we would take our kids there no problem.

The family that runs the B&B is warm, friendly, very nice. Common areas are being built, so it will soon be a much better place. Breakfast was not good, because the space where it is served now is reduced and the quality of the food was poor. Location is excellent; Termini Station is two blocks away. No internet was available.

My stay at the Maryelen was from 2-7 June 2010. I have only very positive comments about this family-run B&B. It was clean, quiet, convenient to transportation, and Loredana provided help in making reservations which saved me considerable time and effort. Loredana and her family are continuing to improve the Maryelen as this is being written. A new street level entrance and new rooms will be completed within two weeks. Appoval for their use is expected later this summer. The new facilities will include a larger, dedicated breakfast area and an Internet room. The Maryelen is located in an area very close to Termini that is undergoing general improvement. It is expected that the street in front will be pedestrian-only sometime in the future. Good restaurants are nearby and the Trattoria Cecio located across the street should not be missed. I definitely recommend this B&B and applaud its ongoing efforts to upgrade its the facilities.

Excellent location since we wanted to be close to Termini station for our 1 night stay in Rome. Loredana & daughters are friendly. Prompt response to online booking. Room and shower is pleasantly larger than most other B&Bs in Italy experienced thus far. Disappointed that there was no working internet access and that room smelt of cigarette smoke. We stayed here for four nights in May 2010. For the price and location, this was a great hotel. We weren't in the best part of Rome, but we were close enough to the train station that we were able to walk or take public transportation anywhere we wanted to go. The rooms were clean, pretty quiet (for being in the middle of Rome), and roomy enough. This isn't a 5 start hotel, but we weren't expecting that, and we were very, very happy with our stay at Hotel Maryelen.

My sister and I had two rooms for eight nights. The service, cleanliness, food, hospitality, etc. were consistently excellent throughout our stay. The street was clean and the area was, to me, more fun to walk around than the more upscale hotel areas. All public transportation is within about 1/4 mile and most sites within walking distance. Security is good with three keys required to get into your room from the street. I would stay here again and recommend it highly.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Maryelen, the staff were friendly and welcoming and Loredana is great - always ready to help with any questions or problems despite being extremely busy! The room was spotless and faced on to the pleasant central courtyard, as I'd asked for. There was a small fridge in the room which was useful considering the heat, even at the end of September. Breakfast was good with cereals, croissants, coffee, juice and lovely toast. The breakfast area is a bit small at the moment, but a new reception and breakfast room is due to open in January which will address this. I found the area surrounding the hotel to be fine, with lots of restaurants, though the street next to the station is a little down at heel it definitely doesn't feel unsafe at all. I would very much recommend the Maryelen and would be happy to stay there again if I return to Rome - it was a great place to come back to in the evening and rest my aching feet for a while, there's a lot of walking in this city!

Loredana and her lovely daughter, Anna, are very welcoming and always available for their guests. The rooms are immaculate and quiet even though the B&B is located in the bustling neighborhood very close to Termini Station. We stayed twice and found it to be very convenient in terms of using the trains and getting to the airport, using the Metro to get to the major sites in downtown Rome. Plus there is plenty of hot water and towels, particularly desirable when Rome is as hot and humid as it was when we were there last week! Rome is a very expensive place, and while Casa di Maryelen is slightly above the 80 euro average we spent in other parts of the country for an evening, location is everything. Her breakfast room is tiny and convivial and her clientele are open and friendly which you often don't find at other B&B's and hotels. Loradana has big plans to expand and include an exercise room and an Internet Point and to make a bigger dining area next January. We applaud her ambition. She is just a charming person, and we will stay again!

Location was convenient-close to Termini, Metro and bus station. We had two different rooms during our stay. Both were quiet and clean with very small bathrooms. The first faced a backyard letting little light and air into the room and giving it a dingy feeling. The second (slightly higher in price) was nicer and faced the central courtyard with a small balcony. The room was larger and brighter. If we had been offered it for the entire stay we would have enjoyed our stay more than we did. Breakfast was fine and served in a bright clean room. The owner was very helpful in providing information about sightseeing and transportation. As we left early on our last day, she packed us a take-away breakfast and gave us a parting gift. I would recommend Casa di Maryelen for anyone who wants basic, clean accomodations at a reasonable price but would suggest a room facing the main courtyard. For us, it was worth the extra 10 euros.

My daughter and I so enjoyed our stay at this B&B. The location was great and Loredana was so wonderful and helpful in mapping out the sights we wanted to see. I highly recommend staying here.

A great place to stay, close to transportation to get around the city, very clean. Stayed for 4 nights, toilet & shower in the room, a little fridge for snacks & H2O (the supermercado is just up the street), and AC. Had breakfast every morning (if you are expecting a Denny's breakfast, stay home), no limit on coffee and breads. Loredana (the owner) is fantastic, had a blast talking w/her, a hard-working woman along w/her daughters. Would stay there again if ever in Rome. Area can be seen as a bit sketchy, but never had any problems. Just use common sense. If you are wanting a fancy hotel, this is not the place for you. Bed (quite comfy!), shower, breakfast, clean, convenient, good price, nice people. Even Italians were staying there...a good sign.

Great accomodation. Near to Termini station, in a street with other Hotels. Very good service, nice and Lorena, the host really cares for you an dmakes you feel at home. I had a room to the court and it was quiet and I even had internet access when I was next to the window.

We had a very nice stay at Maryelene B&B.Very friendly hosts (Lauredana & family).Bath and room are in an excellent condition.Modern and quiet AC.Typical italian breakfast was OK.Hotel surrounding is not of the highest class (close to Termini station) but you have a very good access to bus and train.I highly recommend this B&B.

We normally don't care for B&Bs, but took this one based on a personal recommendation. This was a clean and very reasonable priced room, just a short walk from the train station. We actually only met the owner once, but she was very gracious and accommodating. The only problem we had was that the walls between rooms seemed to be paper thin. It sounded like we were in an echo chamber as other tenets came in after an evening of bar hopping.

Salimos encantados.

CERTAMENTE!!!

Loredana and her daughters were very friendly and helpful. Ideal location of the hotel (400m. from Termini station). Only disadvantage: doors banging in the morning, during breakfast hours

Simply wonderful! I have enjoyed my one night stay, at Casa di Maryelen and will consider booking there in the future. Location & cleanliness, has a lot to do with it. I would have rated quietness of room higher, if not for the thin walls. You practically hear every thing said in the adjacent room; street sound on the other hand, is well insulated by double glazed windows. Special thanks to Loredana and her daughters for their warm hospitality and bright smille. I only wish, breakfast would include something healthier then simple carbohydrates and sugar (cereal, white bread & jam). After all - this the 21st century and we all know how unhealthy these food are and their effects on our insulin tolerance. Besides, this is Italy we are talking about...not a country in Europe, where they serve you heart clogging sausage and eggs. (-:

Our large family stayed in four rooms. There was one room with a lovely balcony. All rooms were great but there was some street noise in the rooms facing the street as would be expected. The rooms and bathrooms were nice, and clean. The breakfast was very good. The cappacino and expresso were the best I ever had. Everyone from the family said they would return return here when they visited Rome again. Lauradena and Mary were wonderful hostesses.

All the good things I have read in the past about Loredana are true. She is a fantastic hostess, and the rooms were well above our expectations. Some would be put off by the neighborhood but I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Loredana (owner) was a great host - very welcoming and accomodating. We had a late flight on the Monday back and she kept our bags for us so we did not have to trek around town with luggage or pay to keep it in a locker at the train station. Very clean rooms and breakfast was ok - continental.

Had a great stay here, Loredana is a fantastic host and a wealth of local information! Very welcoming, we really liked the emails that we had in advance of arrival. Overall this place has a great location, less than 5 minutes to the train station and easy walking distance to main sights. Good choice of restaurants nearby, and area felt safe. This was our first trip to Rome, but ideal for what we were looking for. Great value for the accommodation & service provided, and a really good continental breakfast included in the price. Definitely to be recommended!

We stayed 3 nights in Rome but only 2 full days. Loredana was very welcoming and friendly and our room was perfect for our needs. Breakfast was typically continental and the sweet rolls not really to our liking but Loredana was more than happy to make toast for us. Location for us was excellent as we arrived at Termini late at night so needed somewhere close and and within walking distance. Although probably not the best area we at no time felt unsafe. I would definitely stay there again.
