The hotel itself was pretty average. The staff members were always corteous and helpful, but there was a lot of noise coming from the street. The location was the best thing about this hotel. I would go back to the same area, but I would try a different hotel...

The room had a nice modern bathroom and air conditioning which is a big plus for Rome. It was clean and adequately sized for our needs. The location is great, near tourist sites and the Metro. We asked for a quiet room and considering the busy area, it was quiet! The breakfast buffet very nice.

This was an excellent hotel in the fashionable shopping area of Rome, close to the spanish steps. The staff was the most friendly of our entire trip, helping make reservations and getting us a car to the airport. The room was beautiful, and the beds were really comfortable. The room had a comfortable third bed (we had a triple) and a very nice modern bathroom. The AC worked perfectly. My only complaint about this hotel was that it is in a very expensive area in Rome and if you want to buy a coke it costs 3-4 euros. We liked to buy water at local stores, but there were no local stores in this area that we could find to buy reasonably priced food or snacks. If you like to shop at high end stores, they are all a block away!

Great Service. Rooms clean but A/C sometimes smelled a little moldy. Excellent location only 5 -10 minute walk to Trevi Fountain and only 2 minutes to Spanish Steps and Via Condotti. Good breakfast. No wifi in rooms but free wifi in lobby. Very small elevator only fits 2 - 3 people at a time or 1 with luggage.

Our first trip to Rome. We found the hotel very easily from the Metro Stop. Great location close to the Spanish Steps. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good. Would recommend this hotel to others, but need keep windows closed for a good nights sleep.

We stayed at the hotel for 7 days and found it very comfortable. Friendly people and clean rooms. We were 4 mature persons in 2 double rooms. We enjoyed very much the view over the city from the breakfast room. The breakfast was good with scrambled eggs and bacon, cheese, ham and different kinds of jam, youghurt, juice etc.

Situated in the midst of the action and with enough cosy adresses within easy reach for a bite or drink in the evening, Hotel Madrid is the ideal place to conquer Rome. Funny amazed reaction of the guy at the reception when he saw we've been delivered at the hotel by a female taxi driver: "Was that really a woman?". The spacious rooms are not so designy as what the pictures on the website suggest, but they were cosy enough. Hotel staff was very welcoming and always ready to give expert advice.

We were very disappointed with this hotel. It came highly recommended, but there were many problems. They had taken the controls to the air conditioning out of the rooms, so we could not control the temp. of the room. It was very stuffy and way too warm. We had to resort to leaving the windows open. It was a Saturday night and the light and extreme noise from the crowds on the street made it almost impossible to sleep. The did give us the control the next day and I set it to cool the room while we were out, but the housekeeping staff, unplugged the cooler. We did finally get the rooms comfortable the second night and could sleep because we could keep the windows closed. The single bed my elderly mother-in-law slept in was very worn, dipping down on the edges, she actually fell out of bed the first night. The bathroom was huge, but the didn't replenish the tissue, so we had to call the front desk for a roll. The lady who made the coffee at breakfast was very nice, but the breakfast was not so good, especially the eggs. The roof top breakfast area was clean and nice, but not much of a view and it was also stuffy and warm. The hotels elevator only fits one person with a bag. It was very unnerving to ride in this, but the stairs to the 3rd floor were too much for some of us. The front desk was helpful and nice, however they said they could set us up with a tour for the ruins with an English speaking guide, but what we got was just a driver (no tour) and he could hardly speak any English. I would not recommend this hotel.

We stayed additional nights which were honored at the Venere rate. The hotel is in a great location convenient to attractions, shopping, restaurants etc. They upgraded us from a triple to a suite at the same price. Price for what you get normal for Rome - very expensive compared to anywhere else. Staff helpful and friendly. Individual room air conditioning very good. We were very pleased with the lack of noise - much better than we expected. Breakfast terrace lovely - offerings relatively better than expected and staff willing to toast something if you wanted - capuccinos were included. Would stay again and recommend to all moderate travellers

My mother and I stayed a few days in Rome after a Mediterranean cruise. We loved the hotel, the area, the gelato shop less than a block away, and the quaint sidewalk restraunts. It was an very easy walk to the Metro, Piazza del Popolo, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. What a lovely hotel and staff. Our room was very spacious along with a very nice, newly updated bathroom. The breakfast was included and it was awesome along with the wonderful capuccinos they served us. We would definitly stay at this hotel if life brings us back to Rome. We threw our three coins in the Trevi, so hopefully a return visit will be sooner or later. If so, we will definitely stay at this hotel again. It is a gem!!

We enjoyed the great location and cleanliness of Hotel Madrid. It had no view and the rooms were small, but for our purposes it was very satisfactory. The staff was very pleasant and made great arrangements for us. The room price was high for the ammenities and size of the room, we thought.

The Hotel Madrid was great. Great area, very friendly, helpful staff. The hot breakfast in the morning was good. The breakfast room was really nice. It was a garden terrace and you could see St. Peter's Basilica in the distance. Breathtaking! The cappuccino's were wonderful. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was amazing: huge, with shower and tub. It was great to soak in the tub after a long day of walking. Great location. Close to metro, spanish steps, trevi fountain, piazza del popollo, lots of restaurants.

Although the rooms are on the small side, they are very clean. We did not spend much time in the rooms, except to get over jet lag the first day. Breakfast is included and it was excellent, something for everyone at their rooftop garden. The location is amazing--right around the corner from the Spanish Steps, very safe, less than a 10 minute walk to the Metro. At night there were some noisy revelers in the area on the weekend (I believe it was what is called a "Pubcrawl", but if the windows are closed one can barely hear the noise and it didn't last long. My husband and I and our 3 children stayed in a suite. The front desk was very helpful with maps, restaurant recommendations and travel services to the airport and the cruise harbor. Very helpful when we arrived early from our flight from the US. I was so happy with my choice to stay at the Hotel Madrid.

We stayed at the Madrid based on other Venere reviews of this property. We were in Florence with friends and decided to go to Rome for 5 days. Having never been to Rome I had two hours on the internet to figure out where we would stay. We were not disappointed. Rome is huge and your location and accomodation can make the difference between a delightful stay and falling in love with Rome, and a horrible stay and hating Rome. The hotel is a very nice area several blocks from the Spanish Steps. The prime shopping area of Rome. One night they were having Opera singers at the Spanish Steps for a free concert. A lot of the streets are blocked off for cars in this area so really fun to go rest in the hotel and then go out walking in the evening, with tons of shops and restaurants. The location of this hotel is what made this first trip to Rome so enjoyable. We could walk to the Pantheon, Trevi fountain, longer walk to the Colosseum--might want to take the Metro which is only an easy walk from the hotel----we took the Metro to Vatican city so easy as one stop is near to the Spanish Steps. The morning breakfast on the covered rooftop was delightful in the morning and a good breakfast. The bathroom was large and new--consistently tons of hot water for the shower---so nice when you are in a heat wave the end of July. Yes the room is a little on the small side but very new decorated quality- small TV but didn't mind as we were usually reading our guide books for the next day. Yes this is Italy, not the level of luxurious beds as in the the Mariott hotel in the US for this price. So if this is your first trip to Europe keep that in mind. We loved this little restaurant only several blocks away from the hotel Fiaschetter1a serves Traditional Italian Cuisine (Via della Croce 39 closed Sun) what was interesting we a met a family in the restaurant who live in Rome and said this lttle place was one of their favorites! We learned about this resaurant in Rick

Hotel Madrid is very well located. It is within walking distance of most major destinations but on a quieter street. We were in a quadruple room which consisted of a "master" bedroom and a second room with two twin beds. That proved more than adequate for our family of four. The staff is very helpful, the breakfast is good, and we would be perfectly happy to stay here again.

This is a fantastic hotel in a fantastic central location. Just a few steps to the Spanish Steps! My wife and I stayed here the last night of our Honeymoon and couldn't be more pleased. The staff was very friendly and helped us out greatly with transportation the day of our departure. The roof-top breakfast in the morning is outstanding as well. If I had to nit-pick, I could say that the TV was small and the room itself was a bit on the small side as well (not too much room for our suitcases, but we worked it out). All in all, for the price we paid, it was DEFNITELY worth it. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Rome.

The Madrid is in a wonderful location. We were able to walk almost everywhere- except the Vatican. The hotel is a good value, given how expensive Rome is with the dollar so low.The rooms are nice and there is a lovely outdoor breakfast terrace. Our family suite worked out quite well.

I would certainly recommend this hotel, however the staff needs to improve on their attitude and helpfulness. Antonio at the front desk was disrepectful towards my adult children (Ages 25 and 20) who did not stay with us there due to space, they stayed up the road at the Elite hotel, but they would stop by and wait for us in the lobby. Antonio knew that they were with us, but simply did not treat them well. We had a triple room here that was very clean - large by European standards and very quiet - despite the busy location. If they can work on friendlier service this could be an outstanding hotel in a perfect location. It is a short walk to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain - as well as a reasonable walk to the Forum area and Vatican (for those in good shape). The breakfast is in a beautiful spot on the roof top - average quality of food. I do believe that management needs to remind the employees of the significance of good service. During this same trip we stayed at a hotel in Florence called the Tornabuoni Beacci. The Madrid could learn from them about service - see my review for the Tornabuoni Beacci in Florence. One service item that the Madrid handled well was arranging travel from the airport. I would stay here again, but would like to see the service improved.

Great stay, fabulous location, fantastic caring staff. Engish ok, but no effort was spared in any phase of guest care. The view from the breakfastroom was wonderfull, breakfast was nice. During the night we had to sleep with closed windows, because of the noise in the narrow street. The airco did not function so it was a little warm im the room. We had to pay a lot of money for a ordinairy hotel in the middle of Rome, but we were very close to some attractions and open buses. If it wasn't that expensive, we would like to return to this hotel, despite of the noise !!

For us, an asian couple who speaks no italian... We had the most wonderful help from the Front Desk Staff, especially Antonio! Who helped gave us local tips that made our experience a much more memorable! Hotel Buffet was a good spread too! Fresh, substantial and Gosh! Lovely View at the dining area! A lovely glass attic overlooking the rome skyline. So Romantic! Location is great, just mins from prominent and key areas in Rome central. We walked everywhere! Surrounding areas also provided a good mix of shopping and food as well! We will definitely return to stay at Hotel Madrid.

Although a bit pricy compared to current U.S. hotels, the price was not at all out of line with current hotel prices in Rome -- especially at Easter time! Lovely hotel exactly as detailed in the hotel information provided before booking. well ran and in an excellant location in Rome. Many facilities such as food, drink and shopping, metro etc nearby. Rooms a little noisy as the sound from Gilda nightclub located nearby travels from the street below. The hotel have installed interior windows which do lessen this somewhat. Room was well presented and maintained. Staff friendly. No bar in the hoel lobby but several nearby. 5 out of 5 for this hotel.

Rome hotels are notoriously bad value for money and my rating takes this into account. While the 150EU a night is not cheap it was far better value than any of the hotels in my last 4 or 5 visits to Rome. The hotel has been recently renovated and the spacious rooms and bathrooms are modern. Breakfast is okay and taken in a lovely room with a view overlooking the rooftops of the city. Free wireless internet is available in the reception area. I would suggest making use of their private car service than deal with the frequently dodgy taxi drivers. For a hotel with such attractive rooms in an expensive area this is a great choice.

We were at this hotel for 5 days of a 3 week trip though Italy. The Madrid was our favourite hotel. Not a large hotel but quaint and charming. The staff was always ready with a friendly greeting and a willingness to be helpful. Their breakfast was the best we had in our 3 week travels through Italy. It consisted of delicious scrambled eggs, a variety of breads, yogurts, and fresh fruit. The cuppucino was the best I've every had. Breakfast was served on the rooftop patio with a fabulous view of the Vatican. The Madrid is within easy walking distance to most attractions and no more than 2 minutes to the spanish steps. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Madrid again. Everything was as expected. We had a two room suite for four person. The room looked exactly like the pictures and was very clean. The only down side to this hotel was the outside noise. We had to adjust our schedule and stay up late and sleep in. The outside street is very loud with people walking till very late hours. This did not ruin our stay we just adjusted. I would highly recommend the location. Great shopping and many good bistros near by. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Grazi.

We were in Rome in January, 2008. The hotel sent a driver to the airport to meet us (extra cost, but that's fine) and the same driver returned us to the airport at the end of our vacation at the Hotel Madrid. It was a good location but very congested and noisy. If were to return to Rome, we would definitely stay in a much quieter part of the city. We were surprised that the room was so small, considering the price. Bathroom was great-very modern. The location was fantastic for sightseeing, shopping and dining. With 2 young children (8&5), we were able to walk to all major attractions. Hotel breakfast was great, very rewarding and a nice location with views. We ate at many little bars/enteccas/cafes all within a 10 minute stroll of the hotel. We felt very safe in the area of the hotel at any time day or night. The staff booked a great car service for the airport on our departure at a reasonable price. Only recommendation is that at night it would be good if the breakfast room could operate as a bar for pre-dinner drinks. Whilst the rooms did their job, they were not the type you wanted to sit in and have a glass of wine or beer. We would and have recommended Hotel Madrid to friends for its cleanliness, location and breakfast.

5 American girls in Rome - A totally fabulous group that pinched on hotel rate to spend on shopping, dining, and drinking. The Madrid was awesome. Max the porter or as we called him the "transporter" was so wonderful. We arrived late and the staff was on point. I don't think the sight highlighted some great things. Our triple had a balcony (205, I think), it was very spacious. Also, we didn't expect that breakfast was included and that was a major plus - roof top terrace with great view and nice spread. The best thing of all the hotel's location - it is literally around the corner from the Spanish Steps and next door to a HOT Roman club, Gilda. Note: Minibar only had one of each beer, wine, and proseco even though it was restocked everyday - it could have fit some more booz. As young women we felt safe. Also, we felt like we got our money's worth.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Madrid. The location of the hotel was great -- just a 2 minute walk to the Spanish Steps, a 5 minute walk to Trevi Fountain, and 15 minute walks to the Colloseum and the Vatican. The hotel suite (which was very clean) consisted of 2 bedrooms and a full bath, and was perfect for 2 adults and 2 children. While the bedroom with the single beds was a little small, there was a large closet in the hall. And breakfast, which was included in the price of the room, was a nice treat.

The hotel had a great location, right next to the Spanish Steps in the heart of Rome and only 5 minutes away from a metro stop - so getting everywhere was really easy, whether by foot or by metro. In a large city like Rome with lots to see and do, that is really very useful. A number of pizzerias and bars very close by - good for eating but also a bit noisy and rowdy later in the evening as the party atmosphere developed. The hotel itself was really good, clean, good bathroom - we were a family of four staying in a single room and we had plenty of space. It would have been nice if there had been a bar or something to wind down at after a hard day's touring and this is something that I would liked to have seen. Breakfast was also fairly average. Overall though, I would still recommend this to others who are going to Rome.

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Madrid. It was in the perfect location just steps away from the Spanish Steps and minutes away from the Trevi Fountain. The Metro stop was very close by, making it easy to visit the Colosseum and Vatican City. We were able to walk through the Borghese Gardens on our way to the Borghese Gallery, which was outstanding, by the way. The people at the Hotel were very nice and helpful, they even arranged for a driver to take us to the airport, as we had a very early flight to catch. Breakfasts were nice on the rooftop terrace. It was the perfect end to our overall perfect trip.

Hotel is two blocks from the Spanish Steps and close to everything else - Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, all major sights within walking distance - superb location - absolutely wondeful staff - very friendly and helpful - excellent room, very clean - my husband and I will definitely stay there again when we go to Rome again (which we hope to) - had a great time. Hotel is just fabulous - just like the website describes - A/C worked great, had an elevator, great breakfast was included in the price, etc. just as described on web site - A++++++++++

Very helpful and welcoming staff. Breakfast pretty good in roof terrace with view of St Peter's. Good central location - e.g 5 min walk to Trevi fountain, 10 mins to Piazza Navona.

We arrived to Rome with car and it took 20 minutes to walk from Villa Borghese car parking to the hotel. The information was misleading and walking with heavy bags at midnight for 20 minutes wasnt a nice start.

This was a real "last minute booking" via internet on 23:00h with arrival on 10:00h on the next morning. Nevertheless it worked perfect! The hotel crew was prepared for our arrival, they were very kind and helpful. The room was in perfect clean conditions, relatively quite due to the fact that they had installed special windows. The bathroom was nice and also clean. The breakfast room on top of the building is also very nice, you enjoy a great view over the roofs of Rom. The location of the hotel close to Spanish Stairs is perfect for all those who would like to visit all the famous places in the middle of Rom. And, finally: The room rate is surprisingly low , especially when you order last minute. We highly recommend this place and would like to return some day.

I stayed at Hotel Madrid at the end of April 2007. We stayed for 3 nights and had a fantastic time in Rome! We chose the hotel based on it's location and we weren't disappointed! It is extremely close to the Spanish Steps and had a huge array of shops and restaurants on it's doorstep. We were even lucky enough to see the Spanish Steps with flowers (Which are only there for May day - beginning of May). When we arrived the reception staff were very welcoming and check in could not have been easier. We had requested a high floor for a room and this was taken care of - we were on the 4th floor. Our room was 404 a very spacious double (I would recommend a double as the twin rooms look very small). There were 2 windows inside each other, in an attempt to keep the noise out, but this didn't really work, but then that's the price you pay for a good, lively location. By Italian standards the room was very modern and tastefully decorated and the bathroom was very modern with a nice sized shower cubicle. My only bad comment about the hotel was the communal areas seemed a bit tired compared to the rooms (Unusual for a hotel, it is normally the other way around!) and the breakfast was a bit limited. But the view of St Peters across the rooftops was a nice start to the day. Also there isn't really anywhere to change if like us you have a flight later on in the day. We ended up using the changing area and toilet used by the staff! However, overall our stay at the Hotel Madrid was excellent and I would recommend it as a great place to stay, even if it is a little pricey!

Great location with very friendly staff. Hotel was clean and comfortable without a lot of extra frills. Breakfast on the roof was adequate and convenient. Noise from the street was loud at times, especially on the weekend. I would stay here again.

First time at Hotel Madrid. The rooms were clean. Location is convenient and is pretty close to the Spagna Metro station. It's only a couple hundred meters from the Spanish Steps. We had five people in our group and had reserved the two room suite. The two room suite was a bedroom and a living room. Two single beds were set up in the living room and the bedroom had a queen bed with a single bed. It ended up being pretty snug and it was definitely a challenge sharing only one bathroom. Overall, the location is pretty good and the service staff were friendly. But if you're in a group larger than 3, get two rooms.

This property has excellent location near Spanish steps & easy access to Metro (subway)but be very careful as gypsies are prevalent & even being very careful had my wallet lifted! Hotel is clean and a fair price for Rome & location. We were 2 women traveling & appreciated the staff who was friendly & mostly helpful.

For anybody with 2 or 3 kids that plans to go to Rome, this is the place to stay.......I had booked another hotel called the Hermitage that is a 4 star hotel, but when I read the reviews, I cancelled immediately. This place is about 50m from the Spanish steps, great for shopping, dont bother to bring your laptop, NO WIFI, lifts a bit on the small side, but the stairs were good exercise !! Overall....great value for money and I will go back again.

We were in Rome for a day and night only, en route to Tuscany and so the location was wonderful for us. In our short stay, we experienced the energy and character that is Rome. The location of the Hotel is great... Around the corner from the Spanish steps, close to metro station, many restuarants and shops, and within easy and very enjoyable walking distance to other sights. The doorways and ceiling in the bathroom of our room were rather low, being on the top floor (next to the rooftop breakfast room), so if you are very tall you should specify a room on a lower floor. Great breakfast and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would definately recommend the Madrid and stay there again.

We loved the location. We had a two-room bedroom, so it was plenty of rooms for the family. Their breakfast terrace was nice and the menu was good. Because the hotel is located right next to a night club, you hear some noise until late night. But there are variety of restaurants and cafe around it (we loved "Zeo Ciro" right around the corner from the hotel with the reasonable prices and variety of menues) and great shopping area (brand names). We couldn't get much of help from the front desk, but after all the hotel was worth for staying.

Although taxi driver had difficult time finding the location My wife and I found it to be a great Location, friendly staff, great breakfast room....very pleasant setting. Desk staff very helpful, recommended couple of great restaurants nearby.(Le Grotto restaurant was excellent dinning experience and management and staff were great.) This was our first time at the Madrid and we have already decided that we would stay there on our next trip. Very convenient walking distance to Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon.

The quality of the hotel in general was excellent, but the pricing is quite expensive. I guess that is normal for Rome. A few things in the room needed maintenance, eg. needing a new TV remote, the toilet flush mechanism needed adjustment. The desk reception clerks were very helpfull and friendly. The hotel is in an excellent contral location with a bright rooftop breakfast room with an excellent view of the city.
