we had a great stay as a family of 4. very welcoming and knowledgeable staff, who gave great local recommendations re getting around Rome. Hotel well situated near Metro. We flashed round Rome quickly jumping on and off and easy walking distance (15-20 mins) to Colliseum from the hotel. Location is good (some of the surrounding area a bit run down, but felt ok walking about at night, close to supermarkets, cheap internet access point and the hotel recommended a nice pizzeria/trattoria for a family about 500m away (San Crocce in Geruseleme)keep walking RH side of San Crocce in Geruselme St, past old aquaduct)that was reasonably priced with good food/service.

Perhaps I'm just used to very small rooms such as this that I stay in S. America being so much cheaper. And the Euro isn't good against the dollar, so it just seemed higher than I thought it should have been. But hey, it was in Rome, a low average price, and I was happy with my room and the service. Paulo was quite a pleasant help. I would totally recommend this place. it's near-ish to the main train station. Quite a walk from other stuff, but can be done. I walked and enjoyed the sights.

We had quite a bit of mold in our bathroom. We asked if we could get a different room but the employee said he would take care of it and have it cleaned. When we returned to the hotel in the afternoon nothing had changed and he said it was not mold but because of the humidity in the bathroom... and no there were no other rooms available (although there were hardly any people durig breakfast). When we wanted to check out immediately he stated that we had to pay for 2 nights because it was 5 p.m. by then. A long discussion later (in which you could see that there was no interest in us as customers whatsoever) we gave in and stayed for another night. The breakfast that was decribed as such a treat was OK but nothing special. Overall this hotel cost us hours of angry thoughts and trouble. Our remaining night we stayed at the "Albergo Giusti" in Via Giusti which was very friendly and very clean! In retrospect we asked ourselves if we were too picky about the bathroom but the way they dealt with our request was so unprofessional that we feel that these people should work somewhere else but not in a hotel.

Hotel Luzzatti gives you value for your money. The rates in Rome is very high, and you could get a slightly cheaper hotel, but not near as good as this one. Not a luxury hotel, but it is clean and well managed. The AC is included in the price, which seems to be quite rare in cheaper Rome hotels. Breakfast was nice, and was served with a capuccino.

Employees were nice except for the last day, check out was at 11, although we though it was at 12, and they threw us out, not nice at all. They phoned us in the room, and literally said "you have to leave the room NOW!" Also, too much noise coming from the street, beeping and traffic. Too close to main street, very busy area. Cant really enjoy the little patio.

Good location, but the staff was not that friendly or accommodating. The bathroom was not very clean and the room rather shabby. I guess for the price and the location it is worth considering, but we would not stay there again.

general experience was good room were nice and clean and nicely renovated. I wish that there was better coffee for breakfast we loved sitting on the quiet terrace after a long day of sightseeing. We wished that there were more flowers and more trees on the beautiful terrace. There was not a big selection of wine, but the ones that they did have were very good.

It was a very enjoyable stay at the hotel Luzzatti. The employees were very friendly and always very helpful. They suggested us a nice restaurant around the corner, where we went twice because it was so delicious. The room was very spacious and clean. We also enjoyed breakfast with a delicious cappuccino and cornetti. We can only recommend this hotel.

The hotel was exactly as advertised, and the staff were excellent. The breakfast pastries were exceptionally good. Our only complaints: the toilet seat was broken, and the lack of a lift meant that we had inconsiderate other guests bouncing their luggage down the stairs at 5:30 am.

I recomend you this hotel Luzzatti. It's within 5min walk from Manzoni station,15min walk to Colosseum. Staff was kind, helpful and friendly. I like italian people and they are italian. It's better that you understand little italian. Even you don't speak, it's not a ploblem. Some staff speak english. For breakfast we ate hot croissants, putti pain au chocolat or pain au raisin, sliced cheese and prosciutto. They have some kinds of jam and nutella. They prepare coffee or tea for each table when you take a seat. You can find a supermarcket in 3min walk.

We stayed for 3 nights. The hotel was good value for money and as it said on the website; the rooms were clean and quiet and the staff were as helpful as their English allowed, which varied from good to fair. The breakfast was basic but OK, but no facilities to make hot drinks at other times (take your own kettle). Situated approx 300m from the metro and 100m from supermarket, we didn't ever feel threatened. A good base from which to visit Rome.

We were pleased with Hotel Luzzatti- the street it is on looks a bit rundown, but the neighborhood was good-safe. 3 women walked in the evening several blocks for dinner and felt safe. As a single traveller who doesn't wish for much more than what I need in a hotel, I really had no problem whatsoever with my stay at Luzzatti. The room was nice and clean and had everything I needed incl. AC, hair drier, and also an in-room safe which I acutally didn't use. The room may certainly be a bit small for a little bigger person(especially the shower booth), but no problem for average persons I guess. I only care a lot about quietness, but it was even quieter than I expected, possibly in part because my room was in a corner and not next to any other rooms, I never heard any noise and it was very comfortable(except for the last night of my stay when some siren(?) kept sounding on the streets outside). The hotel people were nice and friendly, the location was also pretty convenient being close to a metro station, and didn't look dangerous even when I was walking alone. I'd love to use again when I go back to Rome :).

The hotel was very good value and provided a ideal base for our 5 day visit to Rome, The room was cleen and the air con worked well. We were able to get a very good nights sleep for the next days sightseeing. As the Colosseum was just 12 minutes walk and a Metro station 5 minutes away the location was fine. Breakfast was plentifull if a little repetative. The Hotel staff were extreemley welcoming and helpful. There was no hot drink making equipment in the room and no Bar, I would definatley return and recommend to others.

For a 2 star hotel, I thought it was great. Rome is expensive so this was a great deal when it came to price and services. Breakfast was generous and included in the price. Directions to the property should be more precise. We walked a few extra blocks toting all our luggage after arriving in the city via the airport and then train (extremely tired and hot)looking for the hotel and it could have been avoided if stated by Venere on their website with exact directions on how to get there. Another downside was no elevator for the luggage and we had to haul 4 large suitcases up 3 flights of stairs which was difficult since our girls are only 10 and 12 years old and couldn't get them up the stairs on their own. The room was adequate and had air conditioning which is a MUST for Rome in June/July! The hotel was near the underground subway system,(Metro)but was not really within walking distant to popular sites other than the Colosseum which was approx 1-1/2 miles away or 15 minutes. Would definitely stay at this hotel again, but with less luggage!

This was our very first time in Rome. My wife chose Hotel Luzatti from the website because its quiet location and the fact that it was a walking distance from the main turist attractions, which proved true wihtin 10-12 minutes we were at the Colosseum. The double room was spacious, quiet and cool - an important factor as the outside temperature was a boiling 35 C. The double bed was excellent with firm quality mattress, an other important factor after a long day sight seeing on foot. The brakfast was plenty with large variety from cerials to hot crossaints, rolls, ham, chese clices, yoghurt, fruit juices and hot, strong coffee just the way we like it. The staff was very friendly and helpful day and night. We can highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning to visit Rome and looking for an affordable stay in this very expensive city. We certainly be back in the near future.

We were extremely pleased with our stay at the Luzzatti. Our room was spotless and the entire staff was enthusiastic and ALWAYS helpful. No matter what time of day or night, there is always someone at the front desk to monitor guests coming and going and to answer questions. Breakfast was included and offered a good variety--their cappuccino is the best. The hotel is a short walk from Manzoni station which is now open again and brand new. There are also plenty of things to see and do within walking distance. There are good restaurants, groceries and pizzerias nearby and you are always welcome to have a picnic on their courtyard patio. It was a very good value and we would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is in a very good location. Within 2 min walking distance to Manzini metro station. When I was staying the metro stopped operating after 10:00 p.m. due to some maintenance however the services were replaced by bus service. Especially this metro is very clean and new. The hotel is in a lovely and peaceful neighborhood. The map and location of the hotel should be mor precise on the web. The Italians DO NOT speak English :) So you should study on the map better before henging out in the streets with a heavy luggage. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They speak English, no problem. Although I went to the hotel quite early due to my flight they provided me the room which was lovely. Except one certain Saturday night where there were celebrations going on due to a soccer game the neighboorhood was quite. There was even a laptop size safe in the room which I did not expect at all. The only disadvantage is the stairs! There is no elevator so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs. I think it is a great value for money ( I paid EUR 70 per night for a single room)

This was our first stay ay Hotel Luzzatti. Though we have been to Rome before. And I would say Id definitely use it again. The coffee was lovely, the rooms were very good value for money. the staff were very good and the outside beer garden was fantastic for an evening drink after the day sightseeing. We were even allowed to sit outside with our own wine!! PLEASE use your own map to find the hotel on arrival as the one provided by venere misses out lots of streets and is only good to give you a vague general direction to walk in after arriving at the Termini. The staff will give you a very good street map for free at the reception. It is also very close to the Manzoni Metro which is an excellent, cheap way of travelling the city. A ticket valid for 75 minutes costs 1Euro. 4euro ticket valid for 24hrs.

We had wonderful 6 days in Rome, in Luzzatti. It’s very close to the city centre and metro station in a safety area. Our room was silent and clean. The breakfast was not too abundant, but theirs coffee is the best in the world! :)The staff was friendly and smiling. On the whole it’s a good choice, but little expensive hotel, actually all Rome is expensive. Thank you for all.

We had a 4 bed room for 5 days, 3 adults and one child. Everything was clean, staff was friendly, no complaints at all. Breakfast is great compared to italian standards. The area is not as bad as some other travellers indicated. It is a small house in a quiet small street next to some busy avenues. Very central location. One can use the tram lines 5 or 14 that stop 100 meters away from the hotel. Also, walking from subway station Vittorio Emanuelle was ok, even in the night. We stayed at Luzzatti for four nights with two adults and two toddlers. We were really looking for something affordable, comfortable and safe basically where we could sleep and shower since we left each day in the morning and didn't return until evening. Luzzatti was perfect for this. Our room was VERY spacious, especially considering European standards. It was clean, cute, and quiet (very important with sleeping children). The location was terrific. It is near the Manzoni metro stop, which is currently closed for archeological findings however. No worries, we just walked two more blocks to the next stop. We also walked the 10 minutes to the Colleseum. We also walked to the Termini train stop on our final morning with two strollers and three suitcases. Really, Rome is a small and very walkable city and for this purpose Luzzatti is a great find. It is in a China town area and I felt totally safe even at night.

The room was plenty big for the 4 of us, very comfortable and clean. It was very hot during our stay, so the air conditioning was a welcome relief at the end of the day. First stay at Luzzatti ... difficult to find because the map provided was not very accurate. Metro station is not very far however. A few restaurants around as well as a supermarket very close. My room was very clean and everything was new or refurbished. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and very copious. The neighborhood is very quiet, but if your room is close to the stairs you will hear guests stomping up and down the stairs. Beware of mosquitoes ... and bring earplugs, the air-conditionning is buzzing all the time.

Very nice hotel, nice people, not so large rooms, but most important very clean and silent in the night. From my point of view it is clear a 3 star hotel. I recommended, good price, nice rooms, good breakfast, nice people, and you get to the colosseum or Termini station in about 15 min by walking. Just one thing - this period, be aware that the Manzoni metro station is closed, I recommend you shoul take off at Vittorio Emanuelle, it is 500m from the hotel.

Mattress was "grooved" due to age and use, however it was remarkably comfortable. Staff were all very nice. No elevator, so recommend being physically fit because even the lowest floor of rooms required a serious walk-up carrying your own luggage. Recommend ear plugs due to street noise.

The hotel is fairly close to the train station and about a 15 minute walk to the Coliseum. We found that we would walk in the morning from the hotel to the sights of Rome, but by evening we would take a taxi back to the hotel which cost about 10 euros from the Spanish Steps to the Luzzatti, so it’s a fairly good location, but it does require some walking. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the room was big and clean and we had free use of a private safe for our valuable belongings. One small complaint about the room is that the sliding door to the washroom was broken. This didn’t bother us too much, but I was a little surprised it wasn’t fixed (maybe it is now). The area around the train station might look a little “run down”, but we didn’t have any troubles, and the immediate area around the hotel was fine. It was a good hotel for the price, given the price of hotels in Rome.

WE WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH OUR STAY THERE:
USA, May 2006
The room we had was really smokey and nicotine stains on the wall. The entire hotel smelled of thick smoke. The price did not match the quality.

It is not nice to be asked to pay in advance. Room not very clean. Sheets dirty. bathroom incredibly small. To try to take a shower mean to do a gret job. For this kind of hotel one should pay not more than 30 or 40 euro. The price 85 is absolutely absurd both for the services given and for the kind of room furnished.

Altough rooms could do with a makeover and breakfast are basic, you really can't complain for the money. Surprisingly has 24 x 7 reception cover despite being a small hotel and staff extremely helpful with maps, suggesting restaurants nearby etc. The hotel is a little out of the way and appx 15 min walk to nearest main attraction at the colloseum. Whilst we had already ruled out using the Metro, be aware that although the nearest stop is just 5 mins walk away (Manzoni) the station is currently closed due to major works. We walked from the termini to the hotel on arrival which took appx 20 mins. Altogether I'd recommend the hotel for those on a budget if you don't mind walking...

When we (myself, wife and kid) came out of Termini station and took Metro Line A to Manzoni unfortunatly Manzoni metro station was closed, so we have to getdown at Vittorio , but from Vittorio there is no direction to hotel, even from Manzoni there is no direction to hotel. If hotel Management displays a board to direct hotel route it will be better.

We stay in a standard room and it was ok. Only the trafficnoise in the surrounding streets was bad, when the window was open.

I stayed in the Luzzatti for 4 nights in September 2006 and 1 night in October. It is simply the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in. The noise from the road, the corridor and the ajoining rooms was awful. The room, 110 on the 2nd floor was a dog box with no ventilation except for a window at the end of the room that opened to reveal the living areas of the apartments in the next building 5 meters away, and they in turn looked into you going in and out of the bathroom. There was no lift to take your luggage up to the second floor, it had to be dragged up the steps. The room was unbearably hot and the Manager did not have an electric fan, simply did not have one until he suddenly remembered where there was one after I gave him an Australian calander. The bed was comfortable but the pillow supplied was no more than 2 inches thick and I had to beg to get another one. On my last night in October there was no spare pillow in the whole of the Hotel, because "they were fully booked that night". I had to try to sleep on a thing that weighed a ton and was full of big lumps. The cleaning in the rooms is nothing short of a disgrace. There has been no effort to remove the copious quantities of black mould in the bathroom. On the second visit in October there was a really nasty looking stain on the floor just inside the room from the corridor and an equally nasty looking one on the floor under the shower. Neither of these were there in September. This showed just how bad the cleaning is in this Hotel. Now the shower. Well, that is simply a joke in itself. Sometines I had to have it running flat out for 10 minutes before some luke warm water eventually flowed through. The position of the big 2 way wall tap is just stupid. Twice, whilst walking past to get to the toilet I knocked it "on" and got drenched. The comments you have read in other reviews about the shower and the floor flooding and the toilet seat getting drenched when the shower is on are all correct and NOT exagera

It was our first time in hotel Luzzatti and we recomend this hotel. We had a wonderful time there: nice staff, clean and peaceful room, good breakfast. The location is near Termini but it is important to inform yourself properly about buses or trams before any movement!!

Good location as it is about one mile from the train station and the Colleseum. Also, there is a metro stop nearby to take you to all the main attractions. Very friendly, helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms.

The hotel was very nice and very safe. Rooms were clean and desk staff was more then hospitable. Though, location is very poor, if not inconvenient if you are sight seeing. Termini station is a brisk 20 minute walk away, and then from there you must train or bus to almost all sights. Though the rooms were nice and clean, and breakfast was modest but decent, the cost was high for its location. Also, i got thirty mosquito bites while staying there (in early september) so bring your bug spray.

A good option for a short stay. Interesting price for what offered. A negative point is the shower: there isn't any basis, it's directly on the bathroom floor

We had a great time at the hotel. We have 3 boys aged 15-22. Our room was great with 3 beds in one room and two in the other like a suite hotel. The staff was very accomidating and kept our luggage for us even after we checked out. I would highly recommend this hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE! It is in your best interest to -not- choose this hotel. I knew the rooms would be small and old from past reviews, and that the entire bathroom would get wet while showering - this I had no problem with - but I did not know to check for BED BUGS. Mid-morning the day after my stay at H.L., itchy, swollen red bumps started appearing all over my body and I was quite uncomfortable with all of the itching the rest of the day. I knew I hadn't been bitten by mosquitos or other bugs. I didn't have time to get back to the hotel until about 6:00 p.m. and the management refused to cancel my reservation for that evening. I told him why and showed him my legs - he did not at all refute the possibility of bed bugs, but just said no matter how much I insist, the reservation could not be cancelled. No apology. We stayed at another hotel even though we had to pay for 2 hotels that night because we didn't want to get more bites and be even more uncomfortable. You can get much better quality for the money at other hotels - we had to pay 70 euros per night at the luzzatti - at other hotels in better locations. Try St. Moritz on Via Nazionale - that was only 75 euros for much higher quality and no bed bugs - or Hotel Giolli also on Via Nazionale. I know that bed bugs happen, but the way that it was dealt with was unsatisfactory to me.
