OK Our stay in this hotel was good, no problem but the rooms really are in other place, no in the house of administration, so you have to walk there and go up several stairs to reach your room, and about the breakfast is served in other place that is something such as a minimarket where people are no very kindly and the breakfast ir really poor. But the lady and her husband owners of the hotel are really very gentle and the reception was kindly so the bad aspects can be forgeted.

Our first time in Rome (two female travellers) and our stay at Lussemburgo was most pleasant. Rooms small, but very clean and an excellent deal for the price. Hosts were extremely welcoming, and though they do not speak English ( no problem for us, since I speak Italian)I am convinced they made everybody feel at home. Breakfast was copious, esp. in comparison to regular Italian breakfast. Location in easy reach of Metro and many tourist attractions easily reachable on foot. We will definitely go back there if we go back to Rome!

The service was good.Lucia is a good friendly woman who seems to worry about your comfort.Breakfast are the best..very abundant and fresh..I couldn't wait to get up every day!!The toilet was spotless and so the room.Bedsheet smelling of the conditioner..It was very hot but it didn't bother us. I recommend it as it was so well located!

The room was very clean and it is ok just for sleeping, however, the bathroom was very small. It is a good place to sleep. The hotel is a little far from the subway and it was difficult to get through from the subway the first time. It is a good choice for the price, however, I would have preferred to stay closer to the places I visited. The breakfast is simple, but good and Lucia is nice person who will treat you as a family.

This was a terrible hotel in a very scary area. The reception "team" spoke no English at all, until we decided to check out early (due to the lack of cleanliness, poor area, and very low overall quality of the establishment), when suddenly English was used to berate us for wanting to leave. My suggestion is - in Italy in general and especially in Rome: Spend extra money on a good, safe location and clean, relatively nice hotel. You will need it after a long day of sightseeing in this very abrasive city. Don't stay here!

Very friendly staff, not much English, but enough to get by. Run by an older husband and wife, so it was a bit like staying with your grandparents! When we arrived we were very hot and sweaty and the lady that runs it showed us to our room and brought us a big bottle of cold water, before we'd even checked in. The room was clean and comfortable enough. The towels were interesting, not the familiar towelling but a sheet of linen, much like a toga! Breakfast was good, rolls with ham and cheese and spreads, tea and coffee and blood orange juice (mmmmm). We did have a problem with the toilet not flushing properly each day, but they came and fixed it while we where out. There's no lift, but it's only a couple of easy flights to the room. No wi-fi or internet, but there were a couple of internet points nearby. Close to the main train station and a Metro station. Also, only about a 20 minute walk to the Colosseum and lots of other historic sights.

The neighbourhood is very uninspiring, but as we chose the hotel for its price we couldn't expect anything else. The room was very quiet and comfortable, with double glazed windows and air conditioning. The bathroom was tiny but we somehow managed with smaller ones at other places. The owners gave us a map of nearby restaurants but 2 of them were no longer operating. The buzzing in of guests could be frustrating as it's not the sort of place you want to hang around in but it does make the hotel completely secure. The walk from the railway station was tedious, not at all pleasant as its not an attractive part of the city, but the map we got from the website was excellent. The breakfast was adequate but they didn't like it when we asked for another slice of cheese!

Greetings, This small hotel is in the heart of Rome. The Colosseum is 10 minutes by foot and public transportation is excellent in the district (as all in Rome). Service of the hotel is perfect for this price. Perfect place for those who want to see Rome and need bed and breakfast. The breakfast was excellent, coffee, fresh fruit, ... so perfect. It was a nice holiday in Rome. 8) Thank you very much! Arpad Rethy Hungary

Both our arrival and departure from this hotel was well handled. I felt like I was visiting my Grandmother. Communication was difficult, however one needs to remember you are in their country, not them in yours. The husband and wife team were friendly, and helpful, warm, and caring. The location of the hotel is within walking distance to trains, both the main terminal and the local trains. Getting around Italy from this location was very easy. This is our third time to Italy, and our main concern when finding an apartment or hotel is that it is clean. This hotel was very clean. There are stairs, so if you have a problem with that request a first floor room. The only negative I would have to add is that we were unable to get a US Television channel, however this was unimportant considering we were out sightseeing all day, with very little time at night to do more than eat dinner and get some sleep. For the price, this hotel was fine. We are married couple in our fifities, we understand entering into a trip to Italy that you will not have a big room, with a big bath unless you are staying at a Four Seasons type of hotel and paying $400 Euros a night. Also, one needs to keep in mind, Rome is a city, and cities are not usually the cleaniest. We found no problems in safety, and we were returning to our hotel after ten each evening.
USA, Jul 2008
OK, the hotel is in the ghetto - the neighborhood is not at all safe at night and even taxi drivers had trouble finding it. Also, if you are young and want to have fun (and late nights), I would not recommend this hotel at all. The owners have no staff but themselves, so if you come in late, you may be stuck waiting outside if they don't wake up to the doorbell (you cannot get in without being buzzed in). We had to wait 30 minutes to even leave for dinner one night because we couldn't find the owners and you had to be buzzed out as well. I would never stay here again - we were much happier with Hotel Santa Prassede even though it had smaller rooms - it was in a better location, cheaper, and you could come and go as you please.

The owners of the hotel were very friendly and helpful. They showed us, on a free map which they provided, where to go and what to see. They were very accommodating and recommended restaurants around the area. The hotel is nearer to the main places than you think. As a married couple (who are not interested in clubbing) we found the hotel very respectable and quiet

Excellent choice if you are looking for a budget hotel close to train station and to the Colosseo (10 min walking). In addition to this, Metro station is 2 blocks away if you want to visit The Vatican, believe me, very easy and very convenient and only 1Euro. Welcoming was excellent. The night before leaving, since I was planning to leave to the airport next day at 6:00 AM the kind lady at the front desk povided me some food for breakfast so I did not have to worry about it. Be advised that there is no elevator. I definitely would stay again there. Definitivamente me hospedaria nuevamente ahi.

Pretty clean, tidy, and welcoming atomosphere. The hotel is very close to the Manzoni Station of the Metro Linea-A (Not Termini). A big supermarket is only a few blocks away and a very nice pizzeria is open till late. The price is very competitive and low. It is the ideal place to have comfy time after a long stroll of the city of Rome. the shower room is very small, but refreshing. I'd definitely come back to this hotel. I really appreciate the lovable hotel owners and I want them to keep doing the quality work.

My girlfriend and I went to Rome to celebrate our engagement, we saw all the sites it was a lovely place, euro rate high at time so worked out dearer. The owners of the Lussemburgo were fantastic, they couldnt speak much English but they made themselves understood. They were helpful and friendly and the lady of the house made our break even better. Each morning you go a Bonjourno, she was slightly deaf so shouted but that was fine. We have recommended this hotel to friends of ours who were thinking of going to Rome, the streets around hotel looked rough and uninviting but we had no problems day or night walking to and from our hotel

Very welcoming staff (but speaking only italian), excellent location and good breakfasts (for that price of room) but too small bedrooms especially for men! It's really difficult to take a shower even for slim ones, this is the main disadvantage of this hotel. Apart of this I recommend this hotel.

We thought the hotel was very good value and very clean . The owners were most helpful and we managed to get to understand each other! It was close to the Metro and trams so easy to get around. We did not find the area at all threatening. If you are looking for a hotel to chill out and relax it is not for you. But if you are looking for a base for bed and breakfast, and you will be away from the hotel all day then it is absolutely ideal!

We were staying in Rome for one night prior to our departure for home. One if the problems that we had was that the map was not very clear as to the location of the hotel. We had to ask many people for directions and no one was too sure as to the actual street location. We were therefore tired and weary when we arrived around 3 at the hotel. The owner didn't speak English but we were able to communicate our need for a wake up call and taxi early in the morning. We wandered a long time before finding someplace to have a bite to eat that evening. The owner gave us some directions but found the street but not the restaurant - none there. It was a little difficult to get our luggage up the three flights of steps to the room. Not for the elderly or disabled. The room was clean and quite quiet. It served the purpose but we didn't know for sure if the taxi would be there or if we would get the wake up call. That was a little unnerving. The owner was very friendly and really tried to communicate with us.

My wife and I were looking for an affordable hotel. We were checking the reviews and this was the best we could found. The neighborhood is not that nice (a little scary at night), but is very well located from a metro station and like 30mins walk to the Coliseum and other main attractions. Owners are very friendly and welcoming, and eventhough they speak very basic English (almost nothing) they try to do everything so you enjoy your stay. There is a grocery store nearby and affordable restaurants (not excellent, not cheap, but good enough). It was a simple, clean room. It was just the surroundings that we didn't like (if you're from a large city, this shouldn't surprise you; Rome is not different in that way).

I would return to this hotel. The hotel is located in walking distance (10min) of the station Termini. This is a big asset. It is also very near to the "center" - 10min to colosseum. Great. It is right that the bathroom is quite small (1 measured meter x 1,6 estimated meters), but absolutely clean and with functioning facilities (shower head not calcified, warm water no problem, enough towels, etc.). And I am definitely not in Rome in order to enjoy the size of my bathroom. The hotel owners are nice and forthcoming. Breakfast is included. Only thing that I found strange is: The coffee was that dark that even if you put milk in it it didn't become brown but dark-grey. But it tasted well.

I booked this hotel after seeing the very good ratings and reviews provided by earlier travellers on venere. Hence it was no surprise to me that my stay was really good and for the price quoted, the overall experience was great. The family who runs this property are very welcoming although there is only one person there who understands English. He gave us a useful map and told us about the sightseeing monuments to visit, the bus routes near the hotel, etc. The rooms were spic and span and almost precisely as they are shown on venere. The location of the hotel is also convenient as its fairly close to Manzoni metro station. I would whole-heartedly recommend this to other travellers and would stay again if I went back to Rome.

The Hotel Lussemburgo is a clean, quiet family owned operation. The older couple who owns the hotel speak virtually no English but are friendly, gracious hosts. (Before we were led to our room, we were given a map with all the sights circled and the best routes to take with instruction all in Italian.) We managed to communicate through my phrasebook Italian and my partner and I were made to feel quite welcome. No fuss was made that we were two gay men traveling together and did not want our beds "separato". The rooms are tiny and strictly no-frills, but immaculately clean and tidy. The bathrooms are a typical European affair with a tiny shower and tiling throughout. The modern air conditioning in every room is certainly refreshing after long days of sight seeing in the Roman sun. Also, the price is an excellent value. The neighborhood (near the train station) is a bit gritty. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for women traveling alone. But just two blocks to the left out the front door the neighborhood improves greatly. If you're afraid of not being able to communicate with the owners, they have a son who speaks pretty good English who is there occasionally.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Lussemburgo, and I would (and do!) recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Rome. The best thing about the hotel is Carlo and Lucia, the couple that run it. Between them they do everything, from cleaning the rooms to making breakfast and taking bookings. They don't speak any English, but they were always very friendly and hospitable and went far beyond the call of duty to make me feel comfortable. For example, I accidentally slept in on my first full day there, but Lucia made me breakfast even though it was nearer to lunch! As for the hotel itself, the single room that I stayed in was huge (by my student standards!) and always spotless. My room was at the back of the hotel, and was pretty quiet – although I could hear traffic from the street and some occasional noise from within the hotel, neither were ever loud enough to stop me from sleeping or wake me up. The public areas of the hotel are clean and attractive but quite cramped: the entrances to about a third of the rooms are flush against the stairwell, and one side of the breakfast room serves as the front desk. The hotel is a pleasant five-minute walk from the 812 bus stop, which will take you as far as the city centre. The nearest metro station is also about five minutes away. The surrounding area is scruffy in places, but I never felt threatened - even walking alone at 11:30pm, with some expensive camera equipment in my backpack.

The couple who run the Lussemburgo made our stay wonderful. Yes, the bathroom was tiny and the shower was part of the toilet and bathroom - BUT - our room was always spotless, the A/C made it so easy to sightsee and still go back out at night and the smiles and conversations (english to italian - pretty funny) made my daughter and I less homesick. I would not stay anywhere else in Rome - and the gelato place around the corner was the best gelato we had the whole time we were in Rome. The breakfast was delicious and offered with such hospitality it made mornings great. The huge window with a view of the backyard and the greenery was also pretty - especially in the evenings when the temperature went back down. I urge anyone who needs to watch their money to stay here - it is like staying with relatives.

A very nice place to stay in Rome. The room we got was clean and comfortable with a private bathroom. The hotell is family run and the staff are very welcoming and nice. The couple owning it did not speek english, but their son did. However, the communication will not bee a problem and you get by using some body language. The is close to Termini and appears a bit shabby, but charming. It is quite close to the historical centre and close (5-10 min walk) to metro and busses. Ask the son of the family about resturants in the area and you will find some really good and affordable places to eat. This are definetly the best resturant experiences we have from Rome. I stayed in Rome for 7 days and it was strictly for pleasure. Though the family who ran this hotel were very nice and as helpful as they could be, i would not stay here again. my single room was too small. it reminded me of a small corridor. the tv only got one channel clearly and i had trouble using the telephone. the comode literally sat partially in the shower and the towels reminded me of tablecloths rather than terrycloth. my room wasn't quiet at all. i could easily hear my neighbor and anyone else outside my room. the hallway noise was constant since the floor is not carpeted, there was a loud echo from the stairway that made the noise louder. there's no elevator so, if you pack heavy you'll have to consider that because the rooms are on the upper levels. also no internet access. i read the reviews beforehand and was prepared for the breakfast so it didn't bother me. in the future i'd just prefer something larger...at least a 3 star hotel.

Carlo and Lucia are wonderful hosts. They speak no english but somehow they communicate. They did not have my room available the first night, but made arrangements for accomodations at a hotel around the corner. They were very appologetic, but it was not really a problem. Location is excellent, but first immpressions of the neighbor can be a little uncompfortable. However this was no problem. After a few days I felt right at home.

Hotel room wasn't the main reason to go to Roma. Hotel is clean, employees really helping, taking times to gives informations about the city. Room price's is a bit expensive for me but unfortunately not for Roma.

This was a nice little hotel and the family very helpful and nice. A really nice breakfast. We felt the price high, but I think it was normal for the time of year. WE would recommend if on a train trip, as it was close to train station.

The staff was pleasant and the room was clean. However, the bathroom was very tiny (a former bathtub now converted into shower, toilet, and sink). We practically took showers on the toilet the shower area was so small. The TV and phone did not work.

Very clean room, quiet (we had one facing the court yard, cant comment on street facing room), small bathrooms though but it didn’t really bother us, I found that quite amusing actually, separate air conditioning (remote controlled by you) which is very much needed during summer. Place is owned by very friendly very helpful old couple. Unfortunately we had a water leak in our room but we were prepared for that as I had already read about this happening (in Rome hotels) on this site so don’t get upset, its obviously some thing that happens in these very old buildings, owners had to turn our water off and we had to use the room next door for a shower etc, we could not move rooms as the hotel was fully booked and the room we used for a shower was a single, they were very apologetic and gave us a discount on the over all price for the inconvenience, didn’t really bother us as we were only there for 2 more days and as we say in NZ shit happens. Super market just around the corner from the Hotel which is needed as breakfast was bread, cheese and meat, not enough for me but I guess that’s normal for here??. they let us store our ice cream and beer in their fridge. Hotel is within walking distance (if you like walking) to all attractions and is about a 20min walk from the main train terminal. We felt, great price, location and staff, we would definitely stay here again.

I chose this hotel as all the comments about Lussemburgo said that it was such a friendly, welcoming place, and that it was very clean. This really was true. I had a very happy stay. My room was a cool (air conditioning) haven after long hot days seeing the sights of Rome. I certainly can recommend this hotel as offering excelent value for money.

map indication was not clear and there was a little problem occured when I arrived London, I had canceled one night but the proportier thought I canceled the whole thing, nearly got me nowhere to stay. but other than that, everything was fine, and the price of the hotels were reasonable, thank you for the website.

I stayed at the Lussemburgo in June of 2006, my room was small (with private bath), but I wasn't in Rome to stay in my hoted room, but nonetheless it was a decent room. What made my stay great was the owners; the hotel is family owner and operated. The couple who owns the place were extremely nice, just for them and their hospitality I would go back. The lady didn't speak much english but she was so sweet! There is no curfew, they will wake up in the middle of the night to open the door for you. If you're on a budget, I definetly recommend this place. It's walking distance from the Coliseum, the Roman forum, two metro stations (although one station was closed during my visit) on the red line which take you to most of Rome's major attractions and about a 15 min walk to the Termini station. Continental breakfast included, what more can you ask for, for that price!

Volgende keer in Rome, zeker hetzelfde hotel.

It is often difficult to decide where to stay when visiting a new city for the first time. In this case you would be well advised to listen to all the positive comments, as I did, and look no further. Unless you are expecting the Hilton, this hotel can’t be beaten for price, friendliness, and location (disregard any of the comments about the area being unpleasant - it is a typical Rome city street. The odd bit of graffiti is the norm for most European cities.) The family who run the hotel are unbelievably friendly, and although we don’t speak much Italian and the parents don’t speak much English it’s not a problem. Their son is exceptionally helpful and showed us on the map, which they supply, exactly which buses, trams and metros to catch to all the major sights, although it’s just as easy to walk. They also recommend a few local restaurants – try Le Caveau round the corner for an excellent authentic meal with the most bizarre English translations you’ve ever seen, eg “Laughed to the Cream of Escapes” (fish risotto) and “Unrestrained Sicilian” (lemon pudding). The rooms are perfectly adequate and if there is anything you need you just have to ask. The breakfast can’t be beaten – it sets you up for the day, and Lucia even gave us an Easter egg each with our breakfast! We stayed for five days and had an excellent time. We will definitely stay here again.

We had a great time at Lussemburgo. The hotel was well located, 10 minutes walking to Termini and 10-15 minutes to the Colosseum. The room is quite spacious, but the bathroom was very small, mainly the shower. The breakfast was very good, especailly for an Italian hotel, with different tipes off bread and ham, cheese, nutella, jam etc. The owners were very kindly.

This was a very comfortable and friendly hotel. Breakfast was always excellent and Lucia couldn't do enough to make sure you had plenty to eat. The location was quiet but very close to lots of the historical attractions and public transport was within easy reach. The Termini station was within easy walking distance. A really enjoyable stay and I would recommend this hotel.

Everything that was said on the user reviews was accurate. I based my decision to go with this hotel on the reviews so was pleasantly surprised with how right the comments were, including the location, what to expect from the owners, etc... I'd definitely use and recommend this site to friends/colleagues.

We stayed here in September for 4 nights. It was a little difficult to find. The older woman doesn't speak a word of English, which was sort of difficult. The daughter (?) spoke a little English. The area is not so great. They kept our room clean except for 1 day. I purposefully left the bathroom dirty to see if they cleaned it. And they didn't! The shower is SO TINY! I hate it when the curtains touch my skin. The shower head is weird too. It hangs very low right above my head (i'm 5'3"). They are very nice there and didn't say a word to us when we came back home at 3 am when everyone was sleeping(you have to ring the bell to get in). The breakfast area is very small & quaint. You have to sit with other people at the tables. But we liked the breakfast which consisted of bruschetta & mozzarella, bread, coffee/tea, and juice. Overall it was an okay stay compared to the other hotels we stayed in.

The owner, that don't speak a single english word, is very polite, very nice and everything was very nice. The relation between price and quality is almost perfect, and even the surroundings aren't that good, the hotel is walking distance (5 min) to an underground station, and that is also very nice. The room was very clean, no bad smell at all.

My room was nice. It was nice having a private bathroom & shower. I wasn't told they would be under construction while I was there which made for loud mornings. I was also charged twice on my card for a room I payed for in cash. That part is being worked on now...

This hotel was a very nice place to stay in Rome. The location was good- about a 10 min. walk to Termini train station. There was a metro stop nearer the hotel, but we found that it was always closed in the evenings after about 9:00 p.m. The couple who own the place are friendly and very helpful. They don't speak English though, so some Italian helps. My only complaint is the noise in the hotel. The walls are thin and peoples voices travel through the hotel. The breakfast was good and the central location was great. Metro was accessible, but you could also walk to the colosseum, or take a taxi to most places for about 10 Euro. The rooms were very clean, but small.
