Room was extremely small. There were some workers almost at our terace, starting at 07-07.30 in the morning. Bathroom was small, aspecialy shower cabine (50 x 50 cm!) and there were spots on the ceiling due to water leak from the uper flor. Surroundings are OK. I am not comming back!

Very nice hotel, friendly multilingual staff. Only minor complaints were very thin walls (noisey) and quite a walk into the historical centre of Rome but bus service reasonable. For the price I would happily recommend this hotel. However I would pay a little more next time to be closer to the centre.

We had a great terrace at no extra cost. The breakfast is quite Italian: very sweet. Unusual for a German. Our broken toilet flush has been repaired in less than an hour - excellent!

A pleasant hotel with friendly staff, about a half an hour walk to the middle of the centre of Rome. The towels supplied resembled large waffle tea towels, but this is a minor detail.

Excellent service. Neighborhood looks rough, lots of graffiti but turned out to be quite pleasant. Good restaurants in vicinity. Several blocks walk to main train station, where all forms of tour buses etc. are to be found. Price seems high, but it is Rome.

Good hotel in Roman term of availability and respectively to the price/quality ratio. about 10-15 minutes walk from termini station (so if coming by train - take a taxi and don't drag your bags!). lovely frontdesk people.

Friendly, English speaking, helpful staff. Wonderful breakfast room, with plenty of good breakfast. We took the bus to Trevi Fountain, but it was several blocks to the bus stop. Taxis were easier. Had lunch at Armando's, a good pizza restaurant recommended near by. Good ice cream store near by, also. College atmosphere on the main street. We were there 2 days - not long enough. Had a quiet back room at Laurentia.

Overall the hotel was very good.I felt it was a bit expensive for the type of room we had but I did book it at the last minute. The hotel lobby and breakfast room was lovely and the breakfast itself was more than enough. The room was a bit outdated but was clean and comfortable. It was fine for us as we didn't spend a huge amount of time in it anyway. The staff was lovely and helpful. The hotel is roughly 10 min walk to termini metro station and about 20-30 min to the historical centre. The surrounding area is a bit dirty with plenty of graffiti but I didn't feel unsafe at all. I would definitely recommend the hotel though.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had plenty of choice and was served in a beautiful room. The only downside was that there were few restaurants near the hotel, really only pizzerias. Termini is about 15mins walk away but it might not be a walk you'd take alone as you have to pass through a some lonely streets. However the hotel is situated in a quieter area (actually right beside a fruit and veg market)which doesnt get too much traffic which was a welcome change as many streets are very noisy. I would definitely stay there again.

Hotel is in front of a square with some market on it, so it is busy during the day. Also , there are many cafes, bars and pubs in the very close proximity (basicaly underneeth you window) so it is always noisy, day and night. The good thing is, you don't have to worry abot transportation if you get out in the evning. The hotel is some 10-15min walk to the nearest metro station, or some 20-25min to the Termini station. No more than 150m from the hotel there are 3 supermarkets, well supplied with fair prices. If you are a Coca Cola drinker, don't look for it in the store, buy it in the fast food shop, price is reasonable. Also even closer are some Italian style fast food shops. Overall, you can have decent stay in Rome in this hotel for the money.

Very welcoming service, and since this hotel was picked very quickly as part of a last-minute trip to Rome, it was a very good pick. Lovely included breakfast and computer with internet access. It is very close to the Termini, so I would definitely suggest taking taxi transport from your activities in town at night back to the hotel. It didn't seem worth risking a late-night walk back to save money. During the day, though, it's fine.

The hotel was really nice. After staying in many hostels the room felt spacious even though in reality it wasn't that big for a hotel room. The room was clean, but the sink had a huge blockage, which is why I am not giving full score for the cleanliness. There was a really nice trattoria in a square nearby in the beginning of via Tiburtina. A bus seems to go at least every 15 minutes, and it stops next to Termini.

Well served by the number 71 bus that will take you to centre of Rome. Breakfast is sumptuous. Area is run down but does have a few good bars and restaurants nearby. Check if air conditioning is available when you book as our room did not have any but this was fine in April. Reception can arrange a limo to Ciampino for E45. I would be quite happy to stay here again.

We stayed in Laurentia for 4 nights, it was our first time in Rome. We found the hotel very easily, it is relatively close to Termini (15 min.). We used metro (station Vittorio Emanuelle) to reach city center which was in a very poor part of town. And u had to cross very unpleasant surroundings to get there. Otherwise the hotel was nice, clean, with very good breakfast and nice and helpful staff. The pizza next door is the best I´ve ever ate and there is discount store not very far. But what was very bad surprise for me was the noise at night. The square used to be full of people even though it was 3am, they were chatting, screaming, singing whatever! You could eliminate the noise by closing the window but than u could not breath because rooms are quite hot even it was February. I have to say that we had probably the smallest room in the hotel (204), it was very clean, TV was old and had only Italian channels, eurosport and CNN, bathroom was very very small, but also very clean and they changed our towels daily, but in detail bathroom need a reconstruction. We had great time in Rome, our stay in Laurentia was nice, but next time I would rather look for a hotel in other part of town and I recommend u to demand always room turned out of streets.

Overall, a nice and spacious room. In-room safe and mini fridge. Near two grocery stores. Surrounding neighborhood is covered in graffiti...definitely a college area. Very good pizza place up the street. Termini station is a 20 minute walk. Ask hotel staff about what time/days to go to different sites. Hotel staff very friendly, speak English well and are willing to help.

the hotel was hosting mostly business guests during my stay, this might have been depended on the fact that it was a Monday. The public areas are extremely attractive, service excellent and extremely kind: rooms are comfortable and nice, although standard of rooms (at least as far as the standard rooms is concerned) cannot be considered at the same level of the beautiful and cosy public areas.

This was my first visit to Rome and I was not disappointed. The hotel did not have a room for us for the first night, and transferred us to a sister hotel for that night. However, the room they gave us for the rest of our stay was nothing like the quad that I had seen on the Venere.com site. It was probably a triple with an extra bed sqeezed in. The breakfast was the best we had in Italy. A happy stay overall.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Laurentia for three nights. I really have no complaints about the hotel, good for the price. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was small but clean. I was quite impressed with the breakfast area and the food and service were good. My major concern was the location of the hotel. The area was poor, I saw some drug dealing and the police obviously found the area a favourite place to be after dark because there was a patrol car at the end of every street, however we never really felt threatened. The area was covered in graffiti and was dirty. The only escape was the 71 bus which transported us to more graffiti in the town centre. It was really difficult to find from the Termini Station (rail). I would recommend a taxi as the walking route was rather dodgey (even in the day- past a down and out hostel). Once there use the 71 bus into town. The Laurentia Hotel, I would say find another hotel in a better area.

Of the nine hotels we stayed in during previous travels to Italy, our ten-day stay [May, 2006] at Hotel Laurentia was our favorite. Our room [#203] had a comfortable full size queen bed – not two twins pushed together. The bathroom shower was enclosed [be it small] with daily hot water. The air conditioner worked as well as the small refrigerator [once you pluged it in]. The room overlooked the open market and church. Yes, it was noisy outside late into the night, but that was corrected once the window was closed. Indeed, there was a lot of graffiti and posters on the buildings giving the area a rough appearance. But the neighborhood was safe, close to excellent gelato stands and restaurants free of annoying tourists. It was also close to bus transportation or a 20-minute walk to the bus terminal located at Rome’s main train station. Taxi service was easily available. The meter rate begins at the point of departure for the taxi, not from the hotel. But not to worry, average speed to the airport is 110 mpr. The breakfast buffet was outstanding with multiple selections of grains, cereals, fruits, juice, pastries, yogart and, upon request, excellent cappuccino. All of this served in a comfortable dining area. The staff was attentive, efficient, and responsive to requests. Of special recognition is the detailed connoisseur service provided by Alberto at the front desk. He is outstanding – speaking several languages.

Had a lovely stay at the beginning of our trip, even though we were given a room on the 2nd floor (european 1st floor) with a view that looked out onto the square that is very busy and loud at night (a pretty happening nite-life, bar scene of college students). But other than that the room was very spacious comfortable and peaceful, and the service warm and hospitable. We even came back to stay at the tail end of our trip 2 weeks later, and the service at the front desk was even warmer and nicer, as those at hotel Laurentia seem loyal to loyalty. The neighborhood is "cool" and cheap, good for artists, musicians, travellers on a budget etc to hang and shop and drink and dine. One thing though, I noticed some graffitti of nazi swastikas on seemingly random building walls and such -- the San Lorenzo district is home to some of that pursuasion apparently, and it's not an uncommon thing in Italy, unfortunately -- but being of Asian descent myself, I experienced no problem whatsoever during my stay. As long as you avoid messing with the biker kids up the block that congregate late at night (they keep to themselves mostly, and ride bicycles not motorbikes) then you'd be fine. The neighborhood shopowners, bartenders, restaurateurs, etc were all gracious respectful and nice to us and we are beholden to them for making our stay so enjoyable. Also, the monti et mari pizza from the pizzeria around the corner is AMAZING.

The hotel is not bad. Double room was small, but suficient. The Shower was too small, I hardly could enter on it. Also the room as a strange smell. The TV had few internation channels, and the reception was not ok. Location is ok. 20 minutes from the central station, but a bus 2 minutes away to the center, near the central station. Sorroundings are strange. It is a university place, so many noise during all the day and even at night. Streets are dark, and all walls have grafittis and publicity, however it has a lot of reasoble restaurants. I think I would go there again, looking for the relation quality/price.

Terrific value for money compared to other hotels in Rome.Good location, moderate distance to walk from the station(with excellent scenic backdrops of the old city wall). To say that it is in the student area we found that there was no noise and the pizzerias/eateries were very good value for money, especially Legend's Bar & Armando's (just 2 minutes away on Piazza le Tiburtino). Watch out for the taxi blokes who decide a price before you get in - they treble the prices often. If you need a taxi from the hotel just ask the concierge who hails a proper priced one who won't rip you off. On the whole it was a really enjoyable stay and we will be returning again sometime,(nothing to do with the Trevi Fountain - or maybe it is)I would give this place a definite thumbs up, one of the the minus points was no bar facilities - especially if you have arrived late at the hotel and need to unwind a tad. The other one was a shortage of hot water in the morning for showers, no problem in the evening though. Excellent service, clean rooms, good placement, price ok, 11/10

Das Personal war sehr nett und zum Frühstück gab es ein Buffet!! hotel to anyone visiting Rome - it has the comfort and facilities of a hotel much more expensive. The staff are extremely helpful - maps were given and locations of bus and tram stops and even free tourist advice on routes to take to give the most economical use of our time! The rooms were as expected, air con, fridge and a safe were all very useful and the rooms were large enough and comfortable. The breakfast room, lounge and bar area's were very nice and just like the photographs on this site. Breakfast was a cold buffet of breads, biscuits and pastries, cereals, tea, coffee and juice - you can't go wrong and as much as you can eat to start your day off! Hotel location was 15mins walk from main termini (but make sure you have a good map) and 2 mins from 71 bus stop in Piazzale Tiburtina (which you get in central Rome at piazza Silvestro bus terminus). Between the bus, metro @ Termini and the tram at the end of the road you can get to whichever tourist spot you require quickly and cheaply. The local area looks terrible by day - graffiti everywhere below head height - but by night comes alive as a bit of a hub for wining and dining. It is a student area without the noise or rowdy behaviour or of the UK - everything from a supermarket and cheap takeaways to very good restaurants are in the immediate area and the prices reflect you are out of the tourist traps but it is. All in I couldn't have wished for a better base to stay in Rome and the pricing is superb.

Very nice hotel for that price and very friendly staff. Only negative point is that it requires quiet a walk to the nearst Subway station and the area one has to walk through is not good at all. Especially for a woman walking there alone it might become problematic.

Hotel was fair for the price, room a bit small but its only for sleeping so it doesn't really matter. Not too far from the train station (10min walk), bus stop 2 mins walk away. Breakfast was ok, but im not into croissants and pineapples. Staff are friendly and speak good english. Nice pizzeria across the road and a take-out pizza place next door which was excellent and in-expensive. The surrounding area is not much to look at though, graffiti on every wall and shutter door. Its near to the university so its a popular place for the students to hang. Overall an excellent 7 days holiday in Rome.

We had a very good time in this hotel during our stay. The staffs were very friendly and helpful with excellent English skills. The room was clean and fresh and we were very satisfied with the breakfast. If you don’t mind to walk this is a great location. It’s cheaper and the restaurants in the area are better than in the city. It’s about 30 minutes walk to Colosseo and the centre. Its definitely by foot you should explore Rome. This was our first stay in Rome and we had read peoples review before we selected hotel. This is a hotel we really recommend and the next time we’ll get back in Rome we will choose this hotel again.

The accommodation offered represents good value at the price. The hotel is equipped with a lift and Internet access is provided at no cost. Whilst the location map is not inaccurate, it is quite a walk from the station if carrying luggage in which case a taxi is necessary. It should cost about 15 Euros. There are a couple of reasonable restaurants within walking distance. We would happily stay there again.

Stayed here with a group of college students for 2 nights. The hotel staff was quite nice and the hotel is just as described. Only problem we had was that we had a front room and the noise from the market square with the local university students and others was loud and went on till well after midnight. Request a back room for a quiet night's sleep. We would certainly stay here again. One other reviewer's description on how to find the hotel by walking from Termini train station was very helpful. Pizza restaurant right next store had great food.

We did find the area a problem - it was a solid 15-20 minute from the Termini station through a not that lovely area (a long walk down a wee-smelling street with lots of graffiti, homeless people and the odd needle littering the pavement). This daily walk really coloured my view of rome, and it was inconvenient as we spent most of our time exploring in the inner city area, and if we wanted to freshen up before dinner we had to do the walk twice each way. With the hotel itself, the room was not as lovely as the photo makes out, but it was very quiet and clean. The bed was not that comfortable and the pillows were terrible - we asked a few times for extras and they never materialised. But the lobby area was lovely, and staff were absolutely wonderful.

Laurentia is a comfortable and unassuming hotel in a noisy college area. Our room right above the hotel exterior flags was quite noisy from the nightly activity of the area. (Bring ear plugs! They will help on the plane as well.) We always felt safe and there was easy walking to nearby a "super"market. The market across the street was wonderful and provided great panninis to go for lunches (closed on Sun.) The hotel's breakfast was warm and inviting with a cozy atmosphere. It was a typical continental breakfast that was presented beautifully as a buffet. The front desk was helpful in recommending nearby city buses to major sites and an excellent restaurant nearby. It was a little bit confusing walking from the train station to the hotel but the Tourist Information center just in front of the train station helped map it out. Then locals showed us the small street leading to the hotel. Once we found it, it was fine. I think it was a great deal for our stay in Rome.

We had a very pleasant stay at The Laurentia due to very nice and competent staff. The hotel has even nicer public areas than the photographs portray and the breakfast was very acceptable although we felt that fresh fruit should have been on offer. The location was very handy for a number of bus routes and the train and there were several nice family restaurants nearby.

Wonderful hotel for the money. Irrespective of where you stay in Rome it can be noisy so I was not surprised about a wee bit of noise in the morning out the front of the hotel. The rooms are clean and respectable size for 2 friends sharing a twin room. Staff are EXTREMELY helpful and the walk from the station might be a bit far for some so a taxi is suggested. The bus into town is only €1 and takes 10 mins. You can pretty much walk about everywhere once there and the pizzas in the area of the hotel are awesome! Do not be put off by the start of the street as it does look a bit ghetto-esque. I have stayed in Rome before and have paid through the nose for a hotel in the centre and there is really very little difference APART from the price of course! Many thanks.

We could not fault this hotel at the price charged and would use it again if we ever visit Rome. The staff were very courteous, the rooms clean, there was a free internet service and there was plenty to choose from for breakfast. Our only worry was when we first arrived and reception had no apparent knowledge of our booking through venere.com. Luckily I had taken a printout of the booing in case we needed proof and we were quickly found a room which suited us.

Stayed 3 nights, and will definitely return to this hotel when next in Rome. The rooms were very spacious, clean bathroom, and plenty of hot water which is contrary to some older feedback on this page. The staff were fantastic. We met 3 different chaps on the reception, and every one of them went out of their way to help us. Breakfast was good (apart from maybe the tea which was a bit weak), but always fresh. The bar was open at nights if you needed it until quite late - we returned one evening after 01:00 and they still served us. Can't really fault the hotel, but there were a couple of other down sides. If your room is at the front of the hotel and you sleep lightly, be prepared to listen to the market stall holders setting up at 6 o'clock in the morning! The hotel is situated in an area that is graffiti ridden, but don't let that put you off, we always felt safe. Finally, we got stung by the taxi driver on the arrival! He took us "all around the houses" from the Termini and charged us 20 Euros, which we found out later it was only about 3 to 4 blocks away - take a map with you and agree the price up front - circa 5 to 8 Euros. If not, get the 71 bus (1 Euro) or take a 10 minute walk.

The hotel Laurentia was not exactly what we had expected when we first arrived. Getting to the hotel from Rome’s Termini station is not very straight forward. We decided to walk from the station to the hotel (about 25 minutes) and found the hotels’ surround area to be very disappointing. The surrounding area is moderately run-down and was a place that we did not feel too comfortable walking around at night. After walking around in that area for a little while, we were glad to find out hotel, which despite its location is generally well kept and has a decent reception/lounge area. The hotels’ staff were friendly but the hotel rooms are not what you would expect to be from the pictures that you see on the website. The rooms were generally dark and the walls are paper thin so you can hear everything outside of your room. The rooms’ facilities were present as described on the website but are not excellent and the T.V reception is something to be desired for. The bathroom was of generous size but bed was not very comfortable at all. Breakfast at the hotel is pleasant and will set you up for a good sightseeing day. Overall we feel that our hotel experience with Laurentia was neither good nor bad. It served as a basic place for us to stay during our time in Rome and for the price we were not overly dismayed by the standards of our room but should we decided to visit Rome again we will definitely try another hotel. Two of our chief problems with the hotel that people wanting to stay here should be that the surround area is a little off-putting and to be prepared for how thin the room walls are.

We had a wonderful stay at Laurentia. The welcome was fantastic and the staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The location of the hotel left a little to be desired, but there were easy bus and tram routes into the city centre and stops were only a few minutes walk from the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, if a little small, and there are a few restaurants in the area for dinner in the evening. The highlight of our stay was the welcome we received from staff - they could not have been nicer or more helpful. We would certainly stay at this hotel again!

After reading some of the other reviews on Venere, I was a bit apprehensive; all I can say is that some people are apparently very picky. The hotel was nice, the breakfast was very good and suited me completely (well, except for the tea- Italy is a coffee country, after all), the staff was friendly and helpful, the area around the hotel was interesting, it was easy to cross under the railroad tracks to get to the main sights, they were happy to take American Express credit cards, etc. etc.---- We had a very nice time in a nice enough room, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Some people should lighten up and enjoy the experience.

Being located next door to a Wine Bar, there was considerable noise outside our window until the early hours of the morning (0430 hours one morning) on all 3 nights of our stay. Consequently we had to sleep with the windows closed. In addition, the room did not have facilities for storing clothes, therefore we had to live out of our suitcases.

With a group of 4 friends, we had initially booked rooms at Hotel laurentia. When we arrived, we were told it was overbooked, but it was no problem, because we were transferred to a 4 star hotel Ateneo Palace. We were picked up from Laurentia and dropped off at the hotel. We had no problems booking in early, before 2pm. the rooms were very spacious and the bathrooms too. They were cleaned everyday, fresh towels and toilet paper. The buffet was of a good standard, but you have to get there early, if you want the freshly served pastries, which were delicious. If you just get the tour leaflet from reception, it has a map of all the major tourist attractions, which is very easy to follow. The journey to the termini is about 15mins. Some people might get put off by the area because of graffiti and homeless people, but we had no problem walking back from termini to the hotel around 11pm. we only used the map on the first day and that was that, we knew where everything was. Knew the streets off the back of our hands. Don’t bother with taking a taxi, because they start the meter once they get the call, not when they pick you up. Every important tip, bring trainers or the most comfortable shoes you have, because you will be walking literally everywhere.

Ok, been living in Italy for about 2 1/2 years and for Rome, this was a pretty decent hotel. The Staff was great, the rooms were clean but could use an upgrade. The area around the hotel looks a little shady, but overall it's alright. About a 20 min walk from the Termini (with bags), but direct. Overall it wasn't a bad stay. I would stay there again. P.S. A very enjoyable stay here - very nice hotel - excellent for the price - and the surrounding area was non-touristy and lively (in a nice way!). A long, but possible, walk to the centre, close to local buses for the less fit! Walkable with a rucksack from the main train station - though with a suitcase would be a bit too far. We had no problems at all with the rough sleepers on that route. Friendly staff, nice setting, nice breakfasts - a very good overall stay

We would stay here again. Our first impression of our room was that it was adequate but slightly musty, not a surprise in an old building. All the amenities were there and everything worked. However, our enthousiasm picked up when we opened the window and saw the view of the square with its church, market and street life. Better, the staff won us over. They were efficient, very friendly and very helpful - and there were a couple of times that they made life in Rome easier for us. Pluses: the staff, an excellent breakfast, good public spaces and a high speed internet point in the lounge. Negatives: some very late nights a lot of hooting AND hollering in the square from frisky U of Rome students (it is in the U of Rome area). The windows did a reasonable job of filtering out 85% of the noise. The location is tricky to find given the ancient street pattern and - IMPORTANT - the statement that the hotel is 4 blocks from termini is technically true. However, termini is the largest station in Europe. The airport train stops at the far end of the platform. The walk to the terminal exit is about 3-400 metres. A long walk across the face of the terminal, then another 3-400 metres doubling back, THEN the 4 blocks (not including getting lost). Use a taxi.

This was our third stay at Hotel Laurentia. Elena and her family have always gone out of their way to ensure a comfortable stay. Although the Largo Degli Osci can be noisy, we have always enjoyed the surrounding park. The restaurant,"Piccolo Molise" is literally steps away and not to be missed by any seafood afficionado. Fancy can be had for much higher prices, but the location and hospitality of this 'home away from home' is a bargain that's hard to find these days. Thank you so much again.

This hotel was a good distance from the city center and not in the best of area's. The surrounding area felt dirty and as a woman I did not feel comfortable, especially at night. Estupenda calidad precio.

This hotel is excellent value for money and more than matched our expectations. The staff were friendly, well-informed and helpful, allowing us to leave our luggage for the day after we had checked out as we were flying out in the evening. The rooms were a good size, with effective air-conditioning, and clean bathrooms. Breakfast is in a lovely room with stone arches and there is a good selection of bread, pastries, fruit, cereal and yoghurt. The area is quiet and not touristy and seemed fine, but the area nearer the station is not so nice at night. The recommended local restaurants (Franco's and Armando's, both a stone's throw from the hotel) were amazing. Franco's is mainly seafood, (the best mussels we'd ever tasted!) while Armando's has an extensive menu of traditional italian fare (the buffet starter is excellent). Both great prices too! The hotel is a 15 min walk from Termini or 30 min walk to the main sights, but you can catch the tram (no.19 to vatican, no. 3 to collesseum and trastavere) or bus no. 71 to trevi fountain. We booked the hotel on the strength of the reviews we read and it more than lived up to our expectations. An excellent hotel for the price!

For 60EUR per night it is a very good deal. Hotel very clean, staff very responsible, friendly and helpful, free Internet access, good location if you come with a car, quiet area. By foot it is also a short distance (c.a. 10 minutes) to the train station. We had a private terrace outside our room which was very pleasant! Minus points: room quite small, some lamps didn't work, breakfast buffet not what you expect from a 3-star hotel (though the room was beautiful). But I would definitely come back!

I spent two nights in this hotel. I got o room on a ground floor, next to the hotel toalet and dining room. So from 7 a.m. there was o noise. In the room TV did not work, one of three lights neither and mini bar also. Bathroom was ugly with mould on the wall. When I asked a empoyee to change the room, he told me I could go to another hotel which was somewhere one hundred meters from there.I was indignant. I did not get any discount for my bathroom, TV or fridge(mini bar). In my pinion there is a lot of nicer three star hotels in Rome for that price. I will never choose that hotel again!

Everything was just a positive surprise. The personnel was very friendly and helpful. The service, prices and rooms etc. corresponded very well with the advertisement in the web pages. Only the distance from the Stazione Termini was a little bit longer than mentioned. There are good "trattorias" (especially the one that serves Sardinian food)nearby and the Tiburtina station provides very good connections to main sights of the city. We will certainly use the services of this hotell again and we warmly recommend it for everybody.
