We have staid at hotel la scaleta for 1 nigth. Good refurbishd room. Amazing panoramic sea view. Unbelivable soft matres the best one i slept on ever. At the center of town with alot of free parking outside even a evening. The only one bad thing is althoug the window is a duble window there is a lot of street noise comming in. I think the out sidewall is too thin but you will bearly notice the noise. The breakfast is fine and basic. Surely i will come back to this lovely hotel at next trip to italy.

Excellent location, typical tourist beach hotel. The rooms are very small, as is the bathroom, but most of the time is spent outside anyway.

My wife and I stayed here and loved it. Roberto, Stefano, and Michaelangelo were very helpful at the front desk. We were successful getting a bus from the airport on arrival, but if you get in late it can be hard figuring out how to buy a ticket. The walk from the bus/train station is about 10 minutes instead of 5, but really easy once you figure it out. We even came back to the La Scaletta before leaving on a very early flight since we loved the town the train ride from Rome is cheap as opposed to the train that goes to the airport. I highly recommend this place.

The hotel is above McDonald's, which is open late (2 or 3 am). When the room is placed on the side of restaurant's entrance it is quite noisy at night, but with a view to the sea. In our room we could see some small spots of mold on the ceiling, perhaps due to high humidity (from the sea) and not enough ventilation. Everything else was clean. We liked the breakfast. The staff was very helpful. In general hotel exceeded our expectations.

Hotel at the centre of Ostia in immediate reach of restaurants and bars / cafe's. In our experience it needed better signage as although we found the correct area immediately it took a further 30 minutes to find the hotel (next door to MacDonalds). Car parking is far from easy in the area around the hotel and this added to the difficulty in locating.

The Location of this hotel was great because it was in the heart of all the activities. It was right opposite the sea and the pier where they had "dancing under the stars" during the 4 nights that we were there. It was handy to Rome, being only a 30 minutes train ride.

Excellent location, close to the centre and to the best brewery in Rome/Ostia - "Boa". Nice ocean view, a little noisy during the night. Large room, clean and nice shower. If you need air condioned you have to pay extra, but you also can turn on the fan that works good and it's free!! Breakfast is not the best, very simple no good coffee :-(

Only stayed one night in order to be near Fiumicino airport next morning - 15 minutes away. The hotel is comfortable, the staff are friendly and welcoming. I had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea... which sounds lovely, but it is across a very busy road! The weather was not very hot so didn't need air-con - for which they charge an extra 6 euros. Breakfast was not great, but adequate.

I stayed in Ostia Lido for the last two nights of my holiday in Rome before leaving for the Fiumicino airport. We had a huge, spacious balcony westwards with a sea view where we could have stayed all day sunbathing (we thought however that Ostia Antica was far more interesting). As other reviewers have pointed out, there is a McDonalds and other restaurants right outside the hotel, and a few supermarkets within a walking distance. Ostia Lido is a very nice small town with friendly atmosphere and only 30 minutes from Rome by train. A very pleasant ending for our vacation in Rome. The only problem at Lido di Ostia was with the airport bus; we took the last one at 9.20 pm on Sunday night and at first we thought it would never come, then a friendly lady hailed the bus for us (I'm not sure what she did exactly as she talked to the driver in Italian) and it turned out to be a "long distance" -bus with high steps and no room for the luggage. But for €1,20 what can you expect :) Make sure you have enough money (and time) to take a taxi if you plan to take the same bus as it may never arrive.

The staff at Hotel LaScatta were very nice. We had a wonderful room with a balcony and a view of the ocean. The only problem was the weather -- it was almost a small hurricane. Even in the torrential rain, we were able to walk down about a block and have a nice dinner. I would definitely stay at the La Scaletta again.

La Scaletta is completely unpretentious, but the room and bathroom were clean, and perfectly adequate. It was right on the beachfront road and in a working-class neighborhood (i.e. real people). We had a nice walk on the pier, found a simple rosticceria for dinner and an awesome gelato place for dessert within a 3 minute walk from the hotel. The woman at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful! An excellent place for our last night before an early flight out from Fiumicino. I'd stay there again.

We had a GREAT room with a large terrace and terrific sea view but there are not many rooms like that. Breakfast is very basic, not really worth having it in the hotel. There are many nice places nearby to have a coffee and tramezzini. Apart from the breakfast nothing to complain about and the Hotel is really well located in Lido.

Overall the hotel was fine because all we wanted was to be close to the airport for an early morning flight. The room was small and so was the bathroom, but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The reception area and our room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. The hotel is on a busy street and is next to a beer hall and the crowd partied until 3:30 in the morning - we did not get much sleep! We did find a nice little resturant around the corner were we had some grilled fish that was good. Ostia was interesting but one day was enough.

Haben nach unserem Romaufenthalt mit viel Kultur noch ein paar Tage am Strand von Ostia verbracht. Ist ein kleines, nettes, sauberes Hotel mit sehr freundlichem Personal. WE REALLY HAVE FUN WHILE WE STAIED AT THIS HOTEL, EVEN THOUGH THE ROOM THAT WE HAD WAS A LITTLE BIT SMALL, IT WAS OKAY BECAUSE WE HAD A BIG BALCONY WITH OCEAN VIEW AND CENTER ENTERTAINMENT RIGHT AT FRONT. THE STAFF SR. ROBERTO, WAS REALLY, REALLY NICE AND VERY HELPFUL IN EVERYTHING!!! HIS SYSTERS SRA. JOVANA AND LA SRA. FRANCA WERE REALLY NICE AND HELPFUL AS WELL. WE REALLY DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE! TRAIN STATION AND BUSES TO THE CITY CENTER, WERE REALLY COVENIENT, DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT. ALSO THE AIRPORT WAS ABOUT 10 MINUTES FROM THE HOTEL AND THE BEACH WAS JUST ACROSS THE STREET. BESIDE THE MCDONALD LOCATED RIGHT BESIDE AND/OR BELOW THE HOTEL, THERE WERE OTHER NICE RESTAURANTS AND BUSINESSES CLOSE BY. OVER ALL, IT WAS WHAT WE WHERE LOOKING FOR IN TERMS OF LOCATION, CONVENIENCE AND ENVIRONMENT. THE CITY CENTER WAS 38 MINUTES AWAY BY TRAIN, WHICH WAS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE WE ONLY WHENT TO SEE THE MAIN MONUMENTS AND THE COLLOSEUM WAKING OR BY BUS AND BOAT RIDES.

If you are OK with the thick smoke (non smoking roule is gnored even by some hotel staff), noise and sounds of other people making out at night behind the wall and yesterday cakes for breakfast and almost nothing else (the same set of cakes was on the table during our 2 day stay) then rent it. The beach view was marred by truck traffic and garbage bins, the area was rundown, and the dingy hotel entrance was hard to find. The reception area was untidy, serving mainly as a bedsitting room for the hotel attendant. Our room was small, dark, noisy, and dusty. And our breakfast of plastic-wrapped croissants and hard bread was presided over by a family of persistant flies. A disappointing end to an otherwise lovely stay in italy.

Cramped rooms that could use updating, but location was convenient to the airport and it was a nice seaside setting. Lovely and convenient location beside the sea and the interesting stores and restaurants of Ostia. Hotel hallways interesting (with historic pictures of area) and room tastefully decorated, particularly draperies and bedding. The bathroom was attractive too, modern and immaculate. The bonus was a wide balcony with table and chairs and view of the Mediterranean Sea. Only a 5-minute walk to the train station followed by 1/2 hour ride to Rome. Highly recommended for those wishing to visit Rome a day before leaving from the nearby airport (just a 15-minute drive from the hotel). Minor complaint that evening reception staff spoke no English at all but, by referring to our Italian dictionary, we managed to convey our needs re a morning wake-up call.

The owner ? was incredibly nice - giving us his parking spot in front of the hotel - picking great places for dinner - ideas for spending the day in the area, etc. SImple, clean rooms - some with balconies overlooking the ocean - this hotel is an incredibly good value. Thanks !

Located next to the beach road we found this place very noisy especially at night when trying to sleep. Locationally it was excellent, being next to the (expensive) beaches and less than 10 mins from the station for Rome. Amazing old town of Ostia Antica nearby makes this a very good area to stay, however a hotel away from the traffic (with a balcony, although Scaletta did have a few, we didnt realise and didnt have one) would have been better. The fact my gf and I broke up after the holiday doesnt detract from loving this location.

very nice place to stay! each room has a different colour pattern and a nice flower smell. received a warm friendy welcome and the only downside of this hotel, no breakfast room so far, is in fact none: after receiving a voucher from the hotel, we simply enjoyed our excellent breakfast in a lovely bar on the streetcorner :-)

Right on the beach and the center of town. Quick trip to the airport. Had to ask twice to get a wakeup call.

Did not seem especially well priced after visiting other hotels throughout Italy. Location on the beach could be the reason, but that was not my reason for staying there.

Overall this hotel was good, the owners were friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was not very exciting compared to other hotels we visited in Italy so we went out to a local coffee bar. The room we had had a nice view of the water. The price was very reasonable compared to prices in Rome, but we found it took about an hour to get to the heart of Rome by Train. (I think the website said 30 minutes which is technically true, but the train probably won't take you directly to the main points of interest so you'll have to change trains which adds to the time. We're just tourists so maybe there's a faster way.)

Small hotel across the road from the beach. Right next door to McDonalds. Unfortunately we were there in early March 2004 and the weather was horrible - cold and wet. The room was small, but it had a balcony, which would probably be good in summer although I would think it might be noisy at that time of year.

The hotel is very good value for money. It is very small, located across from the beach in a typical beach area. The rooms are very clean (with large comfortable beds), and fairly small. The hallways left a bit to be desired. The hotel advertizes that all rooms have ocean views. This was true for our room, only if we went out to the end of the balcony / walkway. Breakfast was included, but it was all pre-packaged, and tasteless. Because we were leaving early, they opened the breakfast room early for us at 6 AM, but the coffee had not yet "warmed up"?? The staff was expecting us, and was very helpful and friendly. Again, despite the minor problems, we were satisfied with the stay.

A fine little hotel. Staff very friendly and informative. Fairly basic facilities but excellent price and excellent location - right on the beach. I found the staff particularly helpful. Rooms small but clean. Some traffic noise from the busy main road and no a/c, but, for the price, a real find.

For the first 5 days we had a very noisy room on top of the McDonald's restaurant with a very noisy old air-conditioning unit that was not effective. Fot the remaining 4 days we were moved to a side room with a ceiling fan and a well refurbished room.
