I was there on research duties at the Propaganda Archives. I found the staff extremely helpful. The only thing that I want to point out is that the price was high, considering the fact that it was not in a high season. But still for me it was the nearest place to the Urbaniana University, and I hope to return in novembre.

All was great. Directions to hotel should be-get to St Peters square-walk in the direction of the Tiber River-don't cross the bridge with all of the statues-take a right-go to the next bridge (don't cross the bridge) to the right you will see the bus stop (past the intersection with the tunnel)-walk to the bus stop-look for the hotel sign (about 15 ft up on the side of the building) go down the alley (first street past the bus stop) and you are there.

I found La Rovere to be a nice, standard, small European hotel in a convenient location. Nothing luxurious but clean and friendly and at the going rates for Rome. Staff was very friendly and spoke good English.

I think that the price offered and the room quality was not proportionated. In Switzerland for such a price you can have a better room.

Hotel La Rovere is a very nice hotel. It's tucked away in an alley that is a bit off the main path. It has lots of scooter traffic zipping by, but of course, it's in Rome near the Vatican -- that's to be expected. The staff was very friendly and spoke good English. One small downside was that we had to pay 10 Euro/day for air conditioning, but whatever. It was worth it in the heat of July! Overall a good experience. Recommended.

We had a wonderful visit to the La Rovere. This was our first trip to Italy and the accommodations were great. The staff was very helpful and made great efforts to communicate with us (we do not speak Italian). The rooms are a little small-but that's typical of Europe. The shower was extremely small (my husband is 6'6' so it was a show!) We were just glad to have one in our room! Breakfast isn't exciting, but we found that it was the same at all our stops in Italy-just part of a different culture. I would definately reccommend this property to others. In fact, that's how we found the place.

Hotel La Rovere is very close to Vatican (3 minutes walking) in a nice quiet area. The hotel is very nice, just for travellers. The breakfast is great. Each famous landmark of Rome could be reached by walking maximum 30 minutes.

The property interior was quite a contrast to the outside of the building, although take into consideration it is Rome you are in and all the buildings are old.Lovely bedrooms although there was no view from our window, however we were there to sightsee and didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel other than to change or sleep.5 to 10 mins walk to vatican, although other sights were a bit further.Would certainly book again.

Good and quiet little hotel at the foot of the Janicule hill, ideal to visit Vaticano as well as to reach the center via piazza Navona. A bit difficult to reach by taxi.

We would like to thank Venere.com for providing us with a hotel that was all that was promised. The staff at reception were waiting for us when we arrived and we got the rooms we had requested at the agreed price. This is contrary to other hotels that we have booked over the internet. We would recommend venere.com and definately use them again

The level of lnoise from surrounding rooms was a big problem. Doors slamming, people walking etc. I'm not being a nit picker as I can usually put up with reasonable noise levels. In this case it actually interfered with sleeping. The location was pretty good and it was an excellent location for St. Peter's and the Vaticam museums. I thought the breakfast was adequate to good and the bathroom was very clean with unlimited hot water. The shower was small but typical for Europe which was also true for the room itself. I liked the room safe. My big problem was taking public transportation from the airport to the hotel. Other comments led me to believe that this would be easy. WRONG!! I really wished the hotel would have faxed me some specific directions on ge4tting to the hotel from Termini station. Actually in hindsight I realize the #40 bus will drop you off acrooss the street. If you have a lot of luggage splurge and take a taxi. Overall the hotel was decent and although I thought it was expensive for what you received, I realize that the price and room size were pretty typical for Rome.

Only stay in this hotel if you are interested in being near the Vatican and care about nothing else - food, ambiance, location to other sites. I was very disappointed with our stay at this hotel and will never return. The problems were so numerous that I don't know where to begin - I requested a quiet room and instead got a room on an incredibly noisy street right over the front entrance. this also meant that our room would smell like smoke whenever someone went outside to the street to smoke. Although I had e-mailed to confirm and told them we were on our honeymoon, we were originally placed in a room with separate twin beds. It did not appear that they were ready for us at all, even though we were staying for 5 nights and had booked months in advance. The bathrooms were smaller than any I have ever stayed in (and i have stayed in many hotels in europe). The hospitality of the front desk was not very gracious or friendly. For example, our luggage was lost by the airlines. I was only barely permitted to check the status on-line. We rarely received smiles or any type of conversation as we were going in and out of the hotel. Additionally, the location is pretty awful. Even though it is very near the vatican, there are no restaurants near by (except the one on the corner that has very mediocre food) and all other sites are still quite a hike. The price was quite high considering the location and the lack of amenities or ambiance. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and will certainly never stay there again.

Only one very minor criticism: the bedside lamps were too dim to read by. Apart from that everthing was excellent, and we really enjoyed our stay.

Great. Beautiful room, very friendly and helpful staff and low-key atmosphere, particularly considering proximity to the hordes of tourists and Vatican. Not bad location for leaving the city on the A1 North.

We had a more than pleasant stay in the hotel, the airco was very good and made hardly no noise. The balcony of room 302 was a very special extra, ideal to sit in the afternoon and evening, very quiet and private. Room number 303 has also a balcony. There is hardly no noise at night, very pleasant.

Quaint little hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Rooms somewhat small but plenty of windows and a nice view. The bathrooms were modern with good water pressure and nice hot showers. Within walking distance of the vatican.Would stay here again.

The only characteristic I rated less than excellent was "spaciousness of rooms", but you're in Rome! Who's going to have people in their rooms! Go out and enjoy the city, and when you return, you will be warmly greeted and be able to retire to a cozy room for the night. The rooms with the balconies are worth the money. The view is great. The location of the hotel is perfect as you can hop over to the Vatican by crossing a pedestrian bridge over the main roads and walking through the new parking garage. Or cross the river and the city is upon you. One drawback about the hotel to note is that there are no tubs, and the shower stalls are a bit small. Other than that, higher up is better for a view and the elevator eliminates the stairs if you so please. Bring your walking shoes and enjoy the stay!

A decent little place for not all that much money. Location is pretty good - easy walk to St. Peters, etc. Immediate proximity a little weird - it's located in what looks like an alley, really, just a block of the main street running along the Tiber. Staff is extremely friendly, however, and the rooms are quite nice, if a bit small (esp. the bathrooms - teeny).

Hotel La Rovere is a wonderful hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. There is nothing about this hotel that I didn't thorougly enjoy. I had a single room which was small, but had plenty of room for one person. My bathroom was gorgeous with hot water a-plenty, water pressure to die for, and heat that kept the bathroom and bedroom warm at all times. ( I was in Roma over Christmas break.) The breakfast that was included with the room was perfect--pastries, cheese, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit and coffee made to order. Delicious! Staying on the Vatican side rather than on the City Centre side meant that I was only a few blocks from the Vatican (it's worth several trips) and the noise level was minimal as opposed to the city. (The windows of the hotel are double-paned, too.) There are two restuarants near the hotel, so finding a good place to eat was never a problem. It was a 15 minute walk to Trastevere, and only a ponte away from the city centre. I feel as though I am gushing, but truly, I can't say enough good things about La Rovere! (If you are getting there by train and then bus, take bus 280 NOT 23 to the hotel. It drops you off directly in front of the hotel.) If you have any questions, send me an e-mail.
