Nice hotel, friendly staff on arrival and good location. The bed was too small for double room and it's the first hotel we have been where double room did not have two bed covers.

The location was fantastic & safe.Neat small boutique hotel.Very friendly staff & great service! Honest staff.Left behind our items in the Hotel & they arranged to send them back to us in Canada. Made our stay in Rome special! Would definitely recommend a restaurant nearby - La Taverna dei Monti - genuine home cooked Italian cuisine with great service.

Rome is a bit of a let down, could be any capital city.Herded about like cattle. Florence is way better. Wierdly located hotel next to about 5 curry houses.Probably Italy's only such restaurants. Taxi drivers are nutters. Hotel was overpriced with failing aircon and our room had no windows!

Location wise it could not be beaten as in a safe quietish narrow streeted area with great bars and restaraunts nearby. This however is not a hotel for anything more than sleeping in as the rooms are tiny ( But clean ) and there is no real communal area. What looked like the TV area the staff/ owners were in and rarely saw any other guests apart from at Breakfast but we did however plan not to be in the hotel so apart from room size it was not bad at all.

I had 3 problems w/ this hotel. 1) No parking. I emailed the hotel upon reservation stating I would need the special parking pass. They claimed never receiving it and also advised me that it wasn't in the exact wording anyway. They waved me away to find my own pay parking, the closest space I found was 2 miles away! 3 Metro stops and 1 hour later I arrived back at the hotel, w/ my 9-year old in tow, sweaty and pissed off. They claimed miscommunication, I claimed bad customer service. 2) No AC. The AC in our rooftop Quad room did not work. Never was fixed, for one night we sweated it out. No windows in room and no ceiling fan. Opening the door only led to swarms of mosquitos. 3)Our room was located a floor above where the elevator reached. 2 flights of outside metal stairs led to our room. Not good for my breathing impaired and afraid of heights parents. Good points: The maid was fantastic and friendly. She remembered my son's name. The TV in the room actually worked but wasn't plugged in for some reason and the remote was nowhere to be found. The breakfast was decent. Cereal, juice, coffee, tea, croissants. Some cheese and ham. This hotel would be ok if you did not have a car to park. Only a block or 2 from the Metro stop.

We, 3 mature couples, stayed in Rome for 5 days. Good situated hotel ,short distances to all tourist places. We combined sightseeing busses, two days offer, with walking tours to all our events. Our romms were OK but small. Bathrooms small and old, but OK. Buffet breakfast was good. The staff gave us very helpful information to find different typical Italian restaurants.

This place was very good for our family of two adults and two young teens. The price including the great breakfast was good. The room wasn't that attractive but it was very clean . The staff was nice and helpful we really like them. Almost all the staff spoke some English and most spoke it pretty well. We would definitly stay here again and recomment it to others. The breakfast was very good. If they ran out of something it would in a few moments be refilled. The Grifo also has a nice balcony upstairs to sit on and injoy the veiw and a breeze. This place is not fancy but quant and very well run.

We ordered a room with internal shower. It was forgotten, and we got a room with the world’s smallest shower from day 2. We payed full price for all nights. Extremely noisy as we had to keep the window open, as the air conditioner was not started yet. We choose this hotel because of the “excellent” breakfast. However, the breakfast was very Italian (lousy).

Very good home style local hotel in the historic alley of Rome, clean, cheap, like a traditional Chinese hotel in Beijing's "hutong", within five minute’s walk from the famous Colossium and walk distance from other famous historic sites in Rome, Hotel Grifo is highly recommended for people who want to have an authentic Roman experience.

I paid more to get a hotel with good reviews. No problems with Grifo. The reception staff were very helpful. We were late for breakfast once and it was not a problem. BUT we stayed 13 days in Rome, Florence and Venice and the Hotel breakfasts never varied. Also, apparently there are no toasters in Italy. Do not get into a taxi unless the fare is guaranteed by the Pope, check your restaurant bills and always check your change. You are expected to haggle so be prepared for argument - don't be afraid to walk away, this can get you the price (which should be less than half that originally asked).

This is a great little hotel, the owner, Alessandro, is a lovely man who speaks several languages and is full of advice and tips on Rome. We were very lucky to get a free upgrade to a better room upon our arrival. The internet however at €5/hour is a little steep. The hotel is situated very centrally and is surrounded by some very well priced restaurants, I will definitely return here again!

Great central location within walking distance to collisseum, trevi fountain and most of the usual sites. We stayed 4 nights. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They recommended where to find the best places to eat, how to get to the vatican using the number 40 bus and and where to fill up our water bottles from the many street drinking fountains where the water was fresh and cool which saved us a fortune in bottled water. The hotel rooms were a bit small compared to modern hotels but we expected that and they were clean and comfortable. I would recommend getting a room with a terrace. We did and enjoyed having a quiet drink there in the late afternoon before getting ready to go out for the evening. I would definately recommend the Grifo to friends.

Grifo was a decent place to stay at! It is walking distance to the colosseum. The neighborhood was... ok. the restaurants was ok.. maybe i wanted something a bit more upscale. there were some crowed bars near by but i didn't have time to ck it out. I also got lost trying to come back to the hotel from the Trevi fountain... I really luv the shower in this place. After staying in Venice with a shower that did not have any water pressure.. this place was heaven. The only "interesting" thing was the door had to be locked from both outside and inside. My wife complained that when i went too k a shower down the hall, she was "locked" in the room...ha ha ha! Overall i had a decent stay.. just wish it wasn't so pricey. Maybe that's just US dollar in Rome... :(

We got Room 24 which is hot as hell. The air condition is not working and nobody told us, so turning the air condition on heats the room even more. We complained and got the very nice terrace room for the next night for lower price. The next night they put another victim in hellroom 24, which also shouted and complained. The stuff could have used other rooms or even told us that the air condition is not working. Our stay was in early springtime and off season, so there was no reason to use that particular room 24.

This Hotel is right in the middle of everything and we could walk any where. However it is in a side street, not in the safest looking part of town. We had no incident and there were many good restaurants to choose from in the area. Our biggest complaint was that when we arrived at the end of a long day they did not have our reservation down (bring a copy of your reservation). They made a few phone calls and we followed a lady down the alley to some kind of boarding room for the first night. After that we stayed in the hotel. We got use to the suroundings, for the price it is good. I would stay there again if I could not afford a better place.

We bought wine to drink on our rooftop porch and they uncorked it for us and gave us glasses and plates for our cheese. It was just a great place to stay and the staff was very helpful with everything, making our stay in Rome very pleasant and one to remember. The location was great for finding places to eat. There were so many restaurants in the area it was hard to go out at night and make a decision as to which one to eat at. Wine shops, delis, and gelaterias were within 1 block. Great location!!!

We booked in January 2007 for a family quad room with a terrace. When we got there they told me the family that had the room prior still had it because their flight was cancelled. They put us in two double rooms one without a shower. They did not honour our booking. I felt the other family should have been placed into the two doubles not us. After getting off a 8 hour flight that is not what we wanted to deal with. The location of the hotel is excellent though. Location, A --easy walk to attractions. Breakfast, CMinus except for coffee, which was excellent. "Muesli" concocted of raw oatmeal mixed with cornflakes. No fresh food or fruit. Even the toast was in a cellophane package. Room, DMinus. Very noisy. Hard, lumpy bed. Half the lights didn't work and the other half were too dim to see by. No mini-fridge, Walls were patched and the patches weren't painted. Everything about Grifo screamed, "Penny-pinching." Staff, C. Lots of smiles, but they didn't do much. Overall grade, Cminus.

Hotel Grifo proved to be a very impressive hotel in terms of price, location and overall service provided. Whilst relatively small, the bedroom and bathroom offered everything you need for your stay; my only criticism being that the room could often get quite hot, despite us travelling to Rome in February. The location of the hotel is perfect, being just a few minutes walk from the nearest metro station. All major sights are part of the metro routes, although all can be reached easily by foot from the hotel. This makes travelling around Rome very easy and means more time for the fun bits! Hotel Grifo is situated in lovely cobbled streets surrounded by many restaurants and bars, creating a charming atmosphere. This hotel comes highly recommended, above all for its fantastic location. I am already planning my next trip to Rome and will not hesitate in staying here again.

They were helpful in directing us to eateries that were not touristy, as well as just being friendly to chat with. The man who ran the breakfast took a cute liking to our two year old daughter and every morning would make hot chocolate especially for her - no one else. The rooms admittedly weren't spacious, and could be noisy given that the flooring was stone - but the friendliness of the staff quickly makes up for this. We would stay here again in a heartbeat for the staff alone! On another note, it is literally a couple of blocks from the Coliseum and 20 minutes or so from just about anything you want to see.

Rooms at Hotel Grifo are very clean but a little bit too small. We stayed 5 days and we were 3 in a triple room (photos on the website are not the reality), we did not have enough space in the cupboard to put our clothes. The bathroom is very small could be a little bit larger, but for a few days, it is alright. But if you wish a very well placed simple hotel in Rome, with reasonable price and very good service, book at the hotel Grifo. It is not my 1st experience of an hotel in Rome and I have to say that Hotel Grifo is very good for the welcome the employees are providing to the customers. They are always ready to help and answer your questions. For that reason I think I will book again to that hotel. Breakfast price/quality was very good which is not always the case in Rome.

For the price, the hotel was decent. It was close to all of the main sites, especially the forum/coloseum area. The photos made the rooms look bigger than they really are and there were minor problems like cracked lamps and mirror. The bathroom was small and the shower was incredibly small. In general though, if you're looking for a place close to the sites that's cheap, this place is ok. We only had one small problem with a receptionist who gave us some poor advice, so make sure you ask many different people for travel advice.

Hotel Grifo is perfectly located for sightseeing in Rome and is an easy 5 minutes walk to the Coliseum. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable with a small bathroom ensuite. The small alley outside was noisy at peak traffic times, as are all roads and alleys in Rome !! The staff were very friendly and helpful.

This was my first stay i Rome, and I will definitive come back. Hotel Grifo will be among my prefarable hotels, but I might choose a hotel with an other location as well.

This was our first trip to Rome, as well as Europe, and we really enjoyed Hotel Grifo. It's location is perfect for everything, a turn around the corner and a 1 minute walk brings you within view of the Colloseeum. There's even a bus that stops right in front of the hotel to take you to all the tourist sites, although ALL are within walking distance. The staff are very helpful in warning you of places where to watch, and which buses to avoid due to pickpockets. We felt very safe in the hotel itself. The breakfast is very basic, but really helps to start out the day. The rooms were very clean and as was the bathroom. We reserved a room with a seperate shower and were apprehensive about this prior to arriving, however, upon arrival the arrnangement is very comfortable and did not cause a problem. We would recommend Hotel Grifo to anyone, unless you're expecting a 5- Star resort, but for the price and LOCATION, LOCATION LOCATION, it's well worth it. We look forward to returning.

The hotel was centrally located. I was concerned because the price was much lower than other hotels in the same area. I was very happy when we arrived at the hotel and saw how cute and cosy it was. The staff was great! I would definitely recommend and stay there again.

If you know ahead of time that hotels in Rome are small by most standards and expensive then you will not be disappointed at Grifo. The staff spoke perfect English, were very helpful and offered several wonderful suggestions for local food and services. Location was the best feature, though it is located on a narrow street so avoid a car if you can.

I chose this hotel for price and location, using reviews to find out what other visitors had thought of it - these were a great help. We were very happy with it - we found the staff friendly and helpful, the breakfast very good ( it was still being replenished at 9.55, so no shortage of anything), the air conditioning very efficient and our room, though small, was fine. We had, after all, booked only the week before. Clean bathroom and a welcome fridge. We enjoyed the use of the top floor terrace - very good that it was open to everyone. The location was a great starting point for sightseeing. We would definitely stay there again.

I was searching for accomodation in the centre of Rome. Nearly 200 facilities were available at that moment and I have evaluated all of them against my criteria (average user rating must be at least 4, must have an in-room bathroom, instant booking confirmation, price about €100 for a twin room, located in one of the zones: Colosseo, Repubblica, Via Veneto, Esquilino, in order of decreasing preference). It was a tedious task, yet it proved rewarding because I can now write that Grifo was the best facility available. Its main advantage was an excellent location, making it close to most of the sights. Everything inside was perfect, too and the price was highly competitive. This hotel can safely be recommended.

the owner was very nice and also very helpful with directions and informations on restaurants. the room was clean but a litlle outdated, the shower leaked water on to the floor and we had to use the towels to dry the floor up. The lights in the hallways and stairs are very dim,I guess they are trying to save on the light bill. Breakfast was not to complain about it consisted of sweet rolls, cerals fruit coffey and tea. The owner was very helpful with arranging for someone to pick us up from the airport, this costed 50.00 dollars, the driver was very nice, but on our way going back to the airport we had a different driver who spent the whole time on his cell phone while driving and almost gave us a heart attack for his fast and reckless driving on the highway. The area is okay, very close to the colosseum, about 5 minutes, but quiet far from fountain of trevi and the spanish steps which are located on a more upscale area. We walked to the fountain of trevi in the evening and on our way back the main roads were deserted, two guys tried to approach us with clear not so good intentions, my daughter and I started running towards a small street that had an open restaurant. I would not edvise an hotel this far from the main attractions to couples or single women with children unless you have a ride back if you return late. The price is too high for the value, overall we had a nice stay and will return to rome this summer but will book at a different hotel.

It was a while ago. We had a rather good stay. The only problem we had was with the air conditioning unit and the time it took them to get it sorted. 1 of our nights was quite spoilt as it was too warm to sleep.

The Grifo is a very average hotel in terms of rooms in an extraordinary location making it extremely convenient. But, what made the our stay extraordinary was the warm welcome given to us by the concierge/frint desk manager who went out of his way to advise and assist us and was so very approachable. In terms of price and location, I recommend this hotel - you feel as if you are in the heart of Rome and you are literally only around the corner from the Colosseum and the Forum.

We had a fantastic time. The location was perfect and the people behind the desk could not have been more helpful. They spoke excellent English, helped book tickets, showed us where places were on the map and helped us with which transport to take. A little bus stops outside the hotel. There are plenty of good eating places within staggereing distance.

Nice welcoming, clean. New beds are needed, used by many :-) (room 29). Shower room in corridor difficult to unlock from outside. Very small room, and you had to chose between tv or desklamp. Staff very nice and helpfull. Because of that, the price and location the Hotel will be recommended to our friends. Besides your not in Rome for the hotel. Bring good fotwear!

excellent location! a few blocks from the Coliseum and short distance to Via Nationale. The hotel staff were really, really special. Very helpful, informative and showed genuine concern for our needs. They took care of laundry, other hotel accomodation changes, restaurant and direction recommendations. Small room and bath though very clean.

I wouldn't agree it was 3* but IT was very friendly and welcoming. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The quad room was spacious and had a large terrace overlooking the rooftops of this Unesco listed part of Rome. Hairdryer had to be requested but that was not a problem. The location was perfect--5mins from Colosseum and Via Nazionale, and after a long day of walking what could be better than having a good selection of restaurants within a 3min walk?. Via Boschetto is a narrow, busy little street, but the traffic noise was no more a problem here than elsewhere in Rome. It felt safe around there.

Extremely intelligent and helpful staff. very willing to give advice about where to go and what to see. They are justifiably proud of their city and want visitors to enjoy it. Ok, the hotel is small but for a central location for B&B it's great. if you want hotel life - piano players and swimming pools - stay somewhere else, if you want Roman life - busy streets full of restaurants, bars, ice cream parlours, delis etc, a spit away from the Colesseum then go Grifo. My 12 year old son and I spent a lovely 3 days here.

The staff was very friendly, helpful, and accomodating to me, my wife, and our 21 month old son. Although the room was rather small and certain appliances such as the fridge and television did not work, we would definitely stay at this location again because of the excellent staff, service, and overall friendliness. We would strongly recommend this hotel to our friends and family in the future.

Nice little hotel, near to the Colosseum. Great restaurant nearby - "Colours". Try the pasta, it's to die for. Alessandro at the Hotel is very helpful and speaks very good English. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Room was quite small but adequate. Rome itself was beautiful but beware of taxis - trouble getting them, better off on the bus. Buy a 3 day pass and take the 117 from right outside the hotel into the centre. Ask the Hotel staff where best to go for sightseeing, tourist traps and general information about travel and where you are most likely to get ripped off. Overall a very interesting holiday, made better by friendly knowlegable Hotel staff, particularly Alessandro.
