This hotel was right in the heart of Rome. Walking distance to everything. 7 mins to the Colosseum & Forum. 10 to the Trevi Fountain, 10 minutes to Termini Station. perfect location for anyone wishing to stay in Rome. Perfect hosts, and if you wanted a cup of tea late at night, nothing was too much for them. The staff were extremely well informed, gave great local information and tips. Wish we could have stayed much longer! Highly recommend this place. Will stay here again in future.

First time in Roma, The Hotel Grifo was delightful, attractive rooms and wonderful staff. The breakfast served each morning is delicious and plentiful and the coffee is the BEST. Completely surrounded by beautiful Roman architecture and just up the road from the Colosseum, I cannot recommend the Hotel Grifo more!

The Hotel is located in quite place. Very close to the most important tourist place like Colosseum, Venice Square, Fori Imperiali, ecc. ecc.. I spent a great time in Rome and the Hotel location help to be more interesting because all around of it there are many place (bar, restaurant, pizzeria, square ecc. ecc., where we have passed the great night with friends.

Extremely noisy staying in annex, which is over the road to the main hotel. Street below very noisy, situated next to a bar, but actual roadway had lose manhole cover which reverberated every time a car/lorry drove over it. This happened throughout the night, preventing a good sleep.

When we checked in the Agent was very helpful and helped us a lot during out stay. The room was noisy and we could smell cigarette smoke in the evenings. Window was shut, so we're not sure where it was coming from. When we checked out, it was slightly earlier than breakfast. We were told we could eat what was out the night before, but that morning we felt like beggars to try and eat something. All the food was there, but we were not allowed to eat in the dining room, and was only given some yogurt although there was the rest of the meal that we paid for as part of our stay. The evening man was the same in the morning and wasn't welcoming like the lady.

This hotel is close to everything... Within walking distance to Trevi, The spanish steps, the Colesium. The appartment is a short distance from the actual hotel, up a very long hill! The apartment is right along a heavily trafficed road, and you hear each and every scooter that goes by. The rooms are clean, litely appointed, and of good size. The staff is always on duty, and very helpful. This is a nice place to stay for a few days to visit some of the best the city has to offer.

The hotel was very nice but we had some issues on our first day there. The room we were supposed to get wasn't ready so we were offered an apartment for the same price. My wife was exhausted and it had a tub instead of just a shower so we agreed. Unfortunately the apartment was up the road from the hotel and it was up a long steep road to get there. Also there was no internet in the apartment and you need to walk down from the apartment to the hotel for breakfast and if you had any issues. Went back down to see if we could get our room back in the hotel but got a few different stories about how the hot water was broken and there were no other rooms available. The woman at the desk in the evening told us there was a room avasilable the next day but it didn't have a shower in the room, there was an external private shower in the hall and they would discount the price for us. We decided to take the room and they came and got our luggage from the apartment the next day and brought it to the lobby. The room was very nice but small as all rooms seem to be in Italy and the shower wasn't a problem. I would stay here again if were were in Rome in the future but not in the apartment. After the first day everything else was very nice. Very close to Coliseum and Roman Forum and there were buses and the Metro close to the hotel.

We really liked this hotel. The staff was super....spoke English well and answered all questions we had. The location was great, especially for Colosseum but we even walked back and forth to Vatican without any problem. Arranged car for airport in morning for us and for only $2euro more than a cab, we had a great driver and nice car. Breakfast was definitely adequate and the breakfast room was cozy and charming. The bar isn't really "open" but we were told anything we wanted to just ask the desk and they would get it. We booked the terrace room on the 5th floor but didn't think it was worth the walk up the last floor because it isn't private. We shared it with another room and even found ppl from other floors there smoking and eating. We didn't complain because we didn't have much time to enjoy it anyway. But if it had been directly off our room we definitely would have used it. But despite all the little complaints, we really felt comfortable and homey there. We would definitely return.

It was only two negative moments: 1) bad location of the air cond internal unit, air flow blew directly at the headboard, 2) the external air cond unit worked very noisy. The best thing about Hotel Grifo was the staff. They were very helpful, always accomodating and spoke English fluently. (despite what some other reviews have said). Our room was small but clean. You definitely get the 'old Rome' feel when walking up the stairs or looking out our window into the courtyard. The only concern we had was the room size and the noise (which is prevalent anywhere you go in Rome) There was no room at all for sitting or any other activities in the room or bath area. We even had to improvise on where we placed our suitcases. However if all you're looking for is a place to lay your head then I would highly recommend this Hotel. Small but affordable, and clean.

This hotel was great! Just off the main area enough to be really quiet. Close to Metro, and major tourist areas by foot. We had a quad room that was quite a surprise at first since we had to take the lift to the 4th floor then go outside onto a patio and up a set of exterior stairs. It was like a private penthouse apartment with our own rooftop dining area. This was the coolest place I have stayed in Rome! (Third time.) The room was spacious and the bathroom nice. We found some really nice backstreet restaurants just a few block up the street with great price and grocery store in the same area.

The location was fantastic, close to the Colosseum, Metro and buses, and walking distance to the Trevi fountain. HEAPS of cheap eats around. The Chinese restaurant around the corner was yummy and very reasonably priced and an Argentinean steak restaurant - best bugger in Rome! The only downside is the tiny shower. Our room at the Hotel Grifo was located in the "annex", which is across the street from the building in which reception is located. Using the key we were given, we entered the building and found ourselves in a dark hallway, without an elevator, and climbed two long flights of stairs to get to our room. The hallway was not lit, and there was no natural lighting. It was difficult to see in order to get the key in the door. Additionally, the doors were not clearly marked, and we were not given clear instruction upon check in. We encountered another couple who, like us, were having trouble trying to figure out which room was there's and getting the door open. As it turned out, after a trip back across the street to reception, we had to go up another floor, and the doors on the main hallway were not doors to the room, but actually provided access to a hallway, off of which the room doors were. In my opinion, the failure to light the hallways presents a safety concern. I expected a small room, but this was probably the smallest room I have ever stayed in, even in a large city. There was barely enough room to walk around the bed, and no space to manueuver our luggage. On the pro side, the room was clean, at a great location very close to the Colosseum, and fairly priced. Reception was pleasant, and the breakfast, though served in a very small and warm room, was good.

Toilet was used & unflushed prior to us arriving in the room !! Also the stairwell had no lights working making the steps very dangerous at night - we asked for these to be fixed on our first day & 3 days later they were still not working. Reception staff forgot to arrange an airport pickup so we had to get the train & when we arrived there was no help regarding places to go & how best to get around the city. There is no welcome pack or any info in the room not even any dialing numbers for reception.Breakfast area is not big enough to accomodate the guests so we were standing around waiting for people to finish & we never once saw the bar area open. The location is good however there are hotels nearby of a higher star rating for the same price. Would not recommend this hotel.

WIFI service works perfect but only in the reception floor. We highly recommend this hotel as we had some great days and the staff gave us a map and indications to get wherever we wanted. You can also have some drinks for a very reasonable price at the hotel, so it's nice to go to the hall have a coke and check your e-mails.

We really enjoyed our stay at Grifo. It is good value for money in a very central location. Easy walk to Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon. Front desk staff were very helpful. The room was small, but not the smallest we had in Italy, and there was plenty of cereal, rolls, meats, cheeses etc for breakfast. A big plus was free wifi in the room (because we were in the front section of the hotel). The only complaint would be that the hot water was very unpredictable - sometimes scalding hot and then suddenly freezing cold.

Location was great. Very historic, and close to so many sites to see. Our room was disappointing; poorly furnished (no dresser, etc.) and very small. The room needs serious refurbishing. Especially the door locks & keys! Breakfast was good, except for the coffee. Alessandro was great. We were told on arrival that Internet access was free and then later told by another staff member that it cost money (3 euros or 5 euros depending on time). when I said that we were told it was free, then it was "oh, well 10 min is free." Even though the room was disappointing, the price was a good one, for the location.

If you come from Dublin or have been to Dublin then you can compare the area where the Hotel Grifo is to our "Temple Bar" area. There is a wide range of restaurants, cafe's, boutiques, Ice Cream shops, pubs etc around the area. next door to the Grifo there is a Dry Cleaners and a barber around the corner and a supermarket up the street. If you like fresh fruit there are a number of fruit & veg shops around the area. All the main attractions are within easy walking distance and if you are not up to walking, then the metro station is only a couple of minutes walk down the road. For €4 the daily ticket is of great value. The staff in the hotel were excellent and gave us some very good recommendations for restaurants over by the Trevi Fountain and in Cavor. Tips forget the Tour Guides - they are very expensive and you can hire Audio Guides or take an English language tour at most venues for between €4 - €7. Our longest que was at the Vatican museum and that was an hour. To take a full walk around the Collesuen / Forum and palitino gardens it takes one & half days your ticket into the Coleseum will cover you for the next day at the Palitino gardens. Same for the Vatican Museum take your time worth seeing all of it we had to come back the next day to go to St. Peters Basicilla. we tried a different restauran every night and compared to Dublin, they were reasonable. If you are going for a Pizza go to a Pitazzeria. Great steaks in the Argentinian Steak House in Carvor. Try get to the restaurant for 8pm they start to buzz around that time. We flew Ryan Air - great value for money but you shouls consider brining a cushion for your lower back and your neck, seats are upright and cannot be adjusted. they do make a good cup of tea albeit over priced. While in Rome, do as the Romans do - take it easy, long lunches - Ice Crean and an evening meal with a glass of wine or a few beers. don't try do all the sites in one trip, leave some for your next trip. Coming

Good scores sure, but if it's clean and tidy, beds are comfy, the staff are helpfull and take the time to explain things, how to get to places and advice on local facilities, then what more do you want? The shower recess was compact as was the room. But it's a renovated older building a few hundred metres from the Forum and Colosseum, small grocery type stores and eateries close by, there'e even a local bus stop almost outside, and it's quiet. Breakfast was good and well presented too.

Location, Location, Location! This hotel is in a very safe and central district. Full of restaurants and bars in the evening. All very good priced and very good food. However, the breakfast was a disaster. Always went to the bar round the corner! We had to struggle everyday to open and close the room door because the keyhole was too big for the key! They said that they will update to automatic keys. Once we got stuck in the lift because the lights went off. It is more like a 2 star than a 3 star. The owner was very nice and very helpful though. Great location, fantasic staff, it's just the cleanliness of the room and the the breakfast menu that disappointed me greatly. Our room could do with some serious redecoration and new bed linen (nice and clean). Also the breakfast menu is nothing up to standard - fresh vegatables and a bit more selection. Nice hotel, friendly staff on arrival and good location. The bed was too small for double room and it's the first hotel we have been where double room did not have two bed covers.

The location was fantastic & safe.Neat small boutique hotel.Very friendly staff & great service! Honest staff.Left behind our items in the Hotel & they arranged to send them back to us in Canada. Made our stay in Rome special! Would definitely recommend a restaurant nearby - La Taverna dei Monti - genuine home cooked Italian cuisine with great service.

Rome is a bit of a let down, could be any capital city.Herded about like cattle. Florence is way better. Wierdly located hotel next to about 5 curry houses.Probably Italy's only such restaurants. Taxi drivers are nutters. Hotel was overpriced with failing aircon and our room had no windows!

Location wise it could not be beaten as in a safe quietish narrow streeted area with great bars and restaraunts nearby. This however is not a hotel for anything more than sleeping in as the rooms are tiny ( But clean ) and there is no real communal area. What looked like the TV area the staff/ owners were in and rarely saw any other guests apart from at Breakfast but we did however plan not to be in the hotel so apart from room size it was not bad at all.

I had 3 problems w/ this hotel. 1) No parking. I emailed the hotel upon reservation stating I would need the special parking pass. They claimed never receiving it and also advised me that it wasn't in the exact wording anyway. They waved me away to find my own pay parking, the closest space I found was 2 miles away! 3 Metro stops and 1 hour later I arrived back at the hotel, w/ my 9-year old in tow, sweaty and pissed off. They claimed miscommunication, I claimed bad customer service. 2) No AC. The AC in our rooftop Quad room did not work. Never was fixed, for one night we sweated it out. No windows in room and no ceiling fan. Opening the door only led to swarms of mosquitos. 3)Our room was located a floor above where the elevator reached. 2 flights of outside metal stairs led to our room. Not good for my breathing impaired and afraid of heights parents. Good points: The maid was fantastic and friendly. She remembered my son's name. The TV in the room actually worked but wasn't plugged in for some reason and the remote was nowhere to be found. The breakfast was decent. Cereal, juice, coffee, tea, croissants. Some cheese and ham. This hotel would be ok if you did not have a car to park. Only a block or 2 from the Metro stop.

We, 3 mature couples, stayed in Rome for 5 days. Good situated hotel ,short distances to all tourist places. We combined sightseeing busses, two days offer, with walking tours to all our events. Our romms were OK but small. Bathrooms small and old, but OK. Buffet breakfast was good. The staff gave us very helpful information to find different typical Italian restaurants.

This place was very good for our family of two adults and two young teens. The price including the great breakfast was good. The room wasn't that attractive but it was very clean . The staff was nice and helpful we really like them. Almost all the staff spoke some English and most spoke it pretty well. We would definitly stay here again and recomment it to others. The breakfast was very good. If they ran out of something it would in a few moments be refilled. The Grifo also has a nice balcony upstairs to sit on and injoy the veiw and a breeze. This place is not fancy but quant and very well run.

We ordered a room with internal shower. It was forgotten, and we got a room with the world’s smallest shower from day 2. We payed full price for all nights. Extremely noisy as we had to keep the window open, as the air conditioner was not started yet. We choose this hotel because of the “excellent” breakfast. However, the breakfast was very Italian (lousy).

Rooms clean, blankets a bit worn-out but clean. Our toilet kept noise that might have disturbed our neighbour. Ventilation system, outside next to our room kept some noice from time to time. Photos taken during Summer, we travelled Oct. Map could have been more clear. Personnel very helpful. Road work outside, but in principle very nice area.

59 Euros/nt (Double room,in mid-December) was a good price. The staff was friendly. More than 10 restaurants were within 3 blocks of the property, as well as numerous shops. The Colisseum is 1/4 mile away. Breakfast was good. I would stay there again. Recommended for travellers on a budget. Good value for Europe.

I paid more to get a hotel with good reviews. No problems with Grifo. The reception staff were very helpful. We were late for breakfast once and it was not a problem. BUT we stayed 13 days in Rome, Florence and Venice and the Hotel breakfasts never varied. Also, apparently there are no toasters in Italy. Do not get into a taxi unless the fare is guaranteed by the Pope, check your restaurant bills and always check your change. You are expected to haggle so be prepared for argument - don't be afraid to walk away, this can get you the price (which should be less than half that originally asked).

Great and convenient location from the stazione termini and the main sights, very safe neighbourhood, nice staff and helpful, good breakfast and great coffee. Room was small and shower was very small, but par for the course in Italy. Would easily and confidently recommend it to anyone with an explanation of the hobbit-sized showers we encountered everywhere in Italy and Europe for that matter.

This is a great little hotel, the owner, Alessandro, is a lovely man who speaks several languages and is full of advice and tips on Rome. We were very lucky to get a free upgrade to a better room upon our arrival. The internet however at €5/hour is a little steep. The hotel is situated very centrally and is surrounded by some very well priced restaurants, I will definitely return here again!

Great central location within walking distance to collisseum, trevi fountain and most of the usual sites. We stayed 4 nights. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They recommended where to find the best places to eat, how to get to the vatican using the number 40 bus and and where to fill up our water bottles from the many street drinking fountains where the water was fresh and cool which saved us a fortune in bottled water. The hotel rooms were a bit small compared to modern hotels but we expected that and they were clean and comfortable. I would recommend getting a room with a terrace. We did and enjoyed having a quiet drink there in the late afternoon before getting ready to go out for the evening. I would definately recommend the Grifo to friends.

The hotel stands in the very center of the touristic atractions, you can walk to most of them. You have 2 underground stations in the neighbourhood and 2 direct busses to the Vatican. At the end you happily pay the price.
