The rooms were fine but the beds were hard, pillows the same, need 2 because they are so flat.

We stayed in Rome for six nights. The hotel was away from the "crowd" and that was a positive. We did use a lot of taxi service and also our own two feet. The hotel was fine and we liked the people there very much.

Overall, excellent experience. Strengths are nice area and location near Metro, cleanliness and service oriented staff. We got an excellent tip for a restaurant in the proximity. Decoration is a bit old fashioned, rooms not very spacious but it did not matter to us. Clean and nice bathroom though! Some noise from the streets with open windows but none with closed windows. Also fine A/C. Not exactly cheap but definitely worth its money.

Need a stronger and hotter shower. Bed was hard. Also, promised a "matrimonial" bed. They had to push the twins together. Breakfast was crowded and the service staff was not very helpful.

Value for money in a city centre location was excellent. The hotel is in a safe residential area with neighbourhood shops and restaurants, yet only 15 mins walk over the Tiber into Piazza Popolo and all the sights. The staff were very helpful and gave excellent recommendations for restaurants that we would otherwise have had no chance of finding

This is an excellent hotel. However I would advise anybody staying there to avoid the hotel bar. My wife & I had 6 gin & tonics whilst staying at a cost of E72. Quite extortionate.

It was my second stay in this hotel. This time we were in a much more smaller room located to the street, a little bit noisy. The room also had problems with the electricity and warm water for shower was 2 times not available. The breakfast was ok but not so excellent what we had before in May 2008. We were a little bit disappointed!

Our rooms were in a small separate building across a pretty internal courtyard. Rooms were small (as usual in Rome) but comfortable and clean, and the bathrooms were OK, but showed some signs of repairs and wear that could have been finished up a bit better. The common areas were great, service excellent, the breakfast options and amounts fantastic. The neighborhood is mostly residential (a plus for me), the closest restaurants are walking distance but a few blocks away. The subway is less than 200 yards from the hotel door, and it takes you straight to Piazza di Spagna and the train station. Price was super. Recommended.

We arrived at the hotel with a ridiculous amount of luggage, being at the end of a two-month multi-continent trip. Upon seeing this the receptionist allocated us a very spacious room - practically a suite - at no extra charge. This was a lovely hotel in an ideal location - equally easy walking to the city centre and sites like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Colosseum and to the Vatican. Very friendly and helpful staff. An impressive buffet breakfast.

Main building v. pleasant, but we chose this hotel as it had balconies, but we were in the annex, which did not, and it had an unpleasant odor in the bathroom, the plumbing was from the time of Caeser himself, the toilet seat was broken, and the annex hallways were tired, as was the furniture in the room, which was 2 beds instead of 1 for a married couple. The best thing about it was the lovely garden. Also, too long a walk to old center and not a very good walk at that.

Our stay was very satisfactory. The only slight drawback arose from the renovation of the breakfast room, which necessitated the use of the public rooms set aside for guests' relaxation as a dining room. Otherwise, we were very satisfied and would gladly return to this hotel.

correct hotel, luxury, cleanness and courtoisie are present , but in old fashioned way, some people may adore this step back in time, i find it too rigid. breakfast was rich but twice the refreshing fruit salad tasted like canned ones...but breakfast was good. what was weird is that when i asked for an american plug for my iphone, the man at the reception, eloquent french english talking -rare in italy- found one in his drawer after saying no, and insisted seriously and dramatically on returning it the soonest as possible and handed us an enveloppe, wrote his name on it , and specifically mentioned to return it to him in the morning , i was frankly afraid to take it, and returned the vatican treasure before dawn! the garden is very nice to stay in, so cozy and calm...this hotel is a fine place to pass some calm days in rome...

Do not follow the map provided by the hotel. It gives a general area not an exact address. Even though it is only a 10 minute walk from the subway line, it took us 30 minutes to find the hotel. The concierge at the hotel was very friendly, although, do not attempt to get advanced reservations to the vatican through them. The breakfast was large, but unless you get there by 7am, it is old and stale. Also, beware of the dining room host, he's absolutely crazy!

We really enjoyed our stay in this small intimate hotel. It is within walking distance of the Vatican and only two blocks from a subway station which takes you to the rest of Rome. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was ready around 11 am and we were able to check in, take a shower and change clothes before going sightseeing after an overnight transatlantic flight. This was a pleasant surprise. When I travel to Rome again, I will definitely stay at the Guilio Cesare. Thank you Venere.com for helping me find this quaint hotel.

for a 4 star hotel it was a bit inferior ! Plastic glasses in rooms...not replaced daily ! Had to ask for Loo rolls ! A delightful, attractive hotel in a quiet area. But it was close to the river and the metro, and within walking distance of most of the main attractions - what more could you want ! Breakfast in the garden was an added bonus which got the day off to a good start.

We were making a tour of Italy as a family and had a really satisfactory stay at Giulio Cesare. Though we arrived early in the morning in Rome, they were kind to prepare one of our rooms early so that my elder parents found the possibility to get some rest. The employees were competent and helpful. The triple room that I've stayed with my brothers was really spacious, and that of my parents was so so. The hotel is clean and well-served. More than anything else, I had one of the best breakfasts in any Italian hotel I have ever stayed. Lastly, though on the other side of Tevere, it is very close to the heart of the city; the Popolo square is a 10 minute walk. I would recommend Giulio Cesare to any kind of traveller.

I was in Rome for 4 days and this location was great. Close to the Metro station 100yds and easy to walk to anywhere, really. The hotel's breakfast was incredible, the best I have seen in all of Europe. Rooms are very spacious and so is the bathroom - big and clean. I would definately return to this hotel and would highly recommend it to others.

This was our first time to Rome. We could not have been more pleased. The staff was very helpfull in booking resturants, tours and giving directions. The rooms were small but very well appointed with high cielings, good sized bathrooms and firm king sized beds. The public areas were well appointed and comfortable. The bartender makes a very good martine. The hotel is located near the Plaza Del Popolo, where there is excellent shopping and great resturants. Overall a very positive stay and I would stay there again.

The hotel was 10 minutes walk from Piazza del Poppolo a large and beautiful open space with interesting churches and a lovely fountain to sit by. The rooms were much smaller than shown in the Venere photos but they were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great and the juice and cake available in reception until lunchtime was a nice touch. The hotel is situated in a neighbourhood rather than a touristy area but within easy reach of all the sites. A highly recommended place to stay if you have plenty of time - we had a week.

The Hotel was upmarket with traditional decor and comfortable public areas including garden area with parasols. Excellent range of free breakfast with hot and cold buffet and Italian specialities included. Staff everywhere helpful and informative. Approx 200m to the nearest underground/metro which goes direct to the main train station. The hotel is located in a residential area on a dead end street so there is no passing traffic, very quiet. 15 minutes walking to the Vatican and just a few minutes to the bridges that cross the river into the heart of the old town. Will stay here again.

The hotel is just a few hundred metres from Lepanto station on the Linea A metro line. On arrival at the Giulio Cesare we got a fairly cool welcome from the staff on reception which was not what I expected. However that was the only "glitch" in our stay. When Roberto was on reception things were much better! Our room, while not as large as the one on the website, was clean and well furnished. The bathroom was also clean and the shower was reasonably good (not a power shower). Breakfast in the morning was fantastic with all tastes catered for from the full fry-up to croissants spread with honey from the owners own bee hives. The garden is a lovely place for a pre-dinner drink in the evening. In fact, they supply you with so many delicious canapés that the edge is taken off your appetite. I would stay there again and recommend it to friends.

I think that the Giulio Cesare was a beautiful and charming old-style hotel. My room wasn't very spacious but it was well worth the (quite small) amount of money I paid for it and it was clean and comfortable. The situation of the hotel was good as well with only 10 minutes to Piazza del Popolo and all the shopping. It took about half an hour by foot to Piazza Navona and all the restaurants in the surroundings but that's okay since Rome is such a wonderful city to walk in. (The subway is five minutes away if you prefer it). The service was great, the breakfast as well. When we forgot our passports one of the employees ran after us to make sure we wouldn't miss our plane!

(Spanish couple): Good accomodation in general, bathroom very new and clean, room quite enough. The location is nothing special, although is 3 minutes away from "Lepanto" tube station, and several bus lines that takes ypu to the trastevere, Vatican and city center. For 120 euros I think it is worthwhile to stay there.

I stayed here last year with my mother and loved it. This year for the first two nights I was put in a room in the basement below the bar and the toilets. Because of the noise and traffic above I couldn't sleep. I had to ask to change my room. I ended up staying in the same room I had last year which was very quiet. The housekeeping is fantastic, the breakfast is very good too, the staff really friendly. But those first two nights spoilt my stay and the fact that on the last day I had to leave very early in the morning and it was problematic for them to provide me with a simple breakfast (I got a black coffee only)meant I didn't think it value for money. It is meant to be a four-star hotel.

Excellent choice of hotel, close to all attractions but on a relatively quiet street. We were provided a spacious room with a balcony on the 4th story. The window doors blocked out noise completely when needed. The beds were firm and very comfortable. The bar and bartender was wonderful. Lovely, sweet, single room. Rather small, but only by American standards - by European standards a typical room. VERY clean, well appointed and secure. I was traveling alone and felt very safe - staff was VERY kind and accomodating. Bar is expensive, one staff member was rather rude in the bar, but not enough to ruin my stay. Lovely, elegant, quiet hotel with bigger rooms than other Rome hotels in this price range, and gorgeous bathrooms. Also beautiful outdoor bar/dining etc. Quieter part of town yet surprisingly close to shopping etc--just walk over the pont. Wish we had planned more time here.

Both my wife and I were pleasantly surprsied with the Hotel Giulio Cesare. The staff were excellent, always attentive and ready to help. The room while quite small was very clean and comfortable and we had the added bonus of a side balcony over looking the garden. The hotel is quite convenient to the Vatican, only 10 - 15 minutes walk away. Overall very impressed with the hotel and we would stay there again.

My wife and I stayed there Oct 2005 and had a great experience. The rooms were very nice, the staff were very friendly and helpful, location was great and so was the price! The breakfast was very nice.

re. 'quietness of rooms', the rating reflects that while there was little noise from outside, the neighbours upstairs and next door could be heard.

Our stay at Giulio Cesare was great! The room was clean and comfortable. The included breakfast was outstanding from "American Breakfast" fresh mozzarella and other cheeses, vine ripe tomatoes, assortment of Italian meats and honey collected from the owner's own bee hives. The location was away from the “busy streets” but walking distance to the Metro (which is how we got to the Coliseum for 1 Euro per person each way), Vatican City, Via Corso, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, and Spanish Steps, We were approached by the owner and he showed a geninune concern for our comfort. When we return to Rome we will be staying at Giulio Cesare!

The hotel Guilio Cesare was easy to find and the welcome was warm. Although we arrived early and our room was not quite ready we were invited to leave our bags and they would be taken to our room, if we wanted to do some sightseeing. The room was small, but the cleanliness (including the bathroom) was exceptional. The addition of a wonderful patio/balcony area made up for the small room. The breakfast and service all over the hotel was excellent with very friendly staff. One of the porters even recognised us at Termini Station when we were on our way home and came over to say hello and wish us a safe journey. An excellent traditional hotel, we would definitely stay again.

We were very happy with the Hotel Giulio Cesare. A few positive things and one very small negative must be noted. Positives: the rooms are very large, comfortable, attractive and neat. We traveled with seven people. My wife, myself and our two small children stayed in a triple room which was big enough for all of us to fit comfortably. Another member of our party stayed in a single room which she thought was very large and comfortable. The hotel staff was super friendly and helpful and very tolerant of our kids. The hotel has free Internet access, including a terminal in a public room for those who did not bring their own computer. The hotel is on a quiet, safe street on the east of the Tiber. The closest major attraction is the Vatican. We did feel that the location is the hotel's only major downside, and of course they can't do anything about that - on our visit in 1999 we stayed on the west of the Tiber, where most of Rome's activity takes place, near the Piazza Navona. However, taxis are relatively cheap and available. We did have one small problem at the start of the stay - we could not charge our restaurant bill to the room. This was a mistake (not hotel policy) and quickly corrected. In short, we loved the hotel and the staff, and highly recommend the Hotel Giulio Cesare!

Overall a very nice establishment. Not as close to the Vatican as implied, and air conditioning was only adequate. The staff and building were excellent, and the breakfast buffet is as good as advertised.

Italy is getting more expensive but this hotel was unique yet had all the facilities of a big chain. Breakfast was unreal. 15 mins walk to the Vatican. We rented a moped and kept it outside the hotel and that was really convenient. Rooms were so dark and quiet that our sleep was fantastic. Beds in Italy were all quite hard.

Welcome on arrival was a bit cold and at first we thought they were going to say there wasn't a room for us. They said that our confirmation of booking was from the 'system' and not a reservation. However, they did have a room and although it was a bit on the small side, everything was there and we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel - food, staff, facilities were excellent.

This is an excellent hotel. Our room was the typical size for Italy so we were used to the smaller accommodation. On the plus side, the rooms are very clean and the front desk staff is very helpful. And, I think this is the best breakfast ever. Not only do they have a great variety but their service is A+ too. The front desk suggestions for restaurants were excellent and they readily made reservations and obtained taxis. The last time we stayed at Guilio Cesare was in 1979, and we were not disappointed with our 4 night stay in 2005.

Our rooms were rather small but were comfortable and the views from the windows were unfortunately, not so good. The service and staff were excellent but oh how nice it would have been to have had teamaking facilities in the room .

Very pleased with the location of the hotel. While it was not central it was very quiet and accessible to downtown Rome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts provided with the room were excellent. Overall I felt that I received value for the price

All right but the room was just a little small. Venere's prices were really lower than official's. Ottimo soggiorno anche se la camera era un po' piu' piccola del previsto. La quotazione ottenuta tramite Venere era comunque imbattibile.

We arrived in the afternoon to a pleasant greeting on reception. The porter led us down a unique mirrored corridor to our room. The room was very elegant in decor and the stay was extremely comfortable. The major downside was the noise eminating from the bathroom next door which was rather loud in the morning. The breakfast was very comprehensive ranging from cereals to smoked salmon.
