This was my first time in Rome and I loved staying at hotel Giuliana. It is well located, close to an important church (Santa Maria Maggiore) and the Teatro dell'Opera. The staff is very polite and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and well lit. I definitely recommend it.

A hotel for budget travelers. A bit dated and shabby. Bathrooms reeked of a god awful smell and the shower pressure was non existent. I suspect old plumbing. But it's a good location and the staff were great. If you're not spending much time in your room, this hotel is a cheap stay for Rome.

Great Location and within 10 min walking distance of all the major sites in Rome. Hotel excellent.. very friendly. Good size rooms. Owners are English, very helpful and patient. Excellent Italian restaurant at back of hotel 'Antica Boheme' and very healthy cafe for lunch close by...'Piacente M.' there is a small market near the hotel for fruit and presents.

Good location. Not far from the station and very easy to find. There are some stairs to negotiate in the hotel but other than that, great access. 5 mins to station, 15 mins to Coloseum by foot. It's on a reasonable busy street, but for Rome it really is very quiet. Our room was on the side street which was quieter (except for the market stall operators setting up early in the morning). Room and bathroom sizes were large by Rome standards. Very pleasant staff were very helpful and their english was excellent. Their restaurant recommendations were spot on. A basic but adequate breakfast was provided with good coffee. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful welcome to Rome! The proprietess greeted us warmly and directed us to a fabulous restaurant. We had been traveling for 30 something hours to get to Rome and our luggage was nowhere to be found. We were exhausted and disoriented. The Signora's tremendous hospitality was a welcome relief; she did everything in her power to alleviate our suffering and to accommodate our special requests. Breakfast was a very solid Italian breakfast with delicious coffee. When we didn't think that the service could get any better, the Signora attempted to sneak us a bottle of wine for the train ride to Tuscany when she learned that we were on our honeymoon. Our stay was very short, but we would recommend this modest hotel in the strongest possible terms.

We traveled to Italy from Bombay, India and our overall hotel experience was the best in Italy. The hotel is family run and the quality of customer service is outstanding. The staff and hotel owners were extremely friendly and went out of the way to help us enjoy our trip. The breakfast was very good, the rooms were like new and I believe they renovate them every year. The bathrooms were excellent also. The location of the hotel is almost perfect located close to the Santa Maria Maggiore church and 10 minute walk from the main Rome station - Termini. The hotel is within walk able distance to the Coliseum, Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps.

Antonio, the receptionist, was very helpful in answering our phone calls before checking in and even buying an extension cord upon request for one. His recommendation for a nearby restaurant was good. The only negative was the lack of a functioning elevator since the hotel is located one floor above the ground floor. The location is good for those walking to the major tourist sites.

We stayed at the Hotel Giuliana only one night between flights from Africa and to the US. We chose this hotel because we have stayed here before and like the location and the helpfulness of the Giuliana staff. We had a room at the front overlooking the street, and, as is the case with many urban European hotels, there is some street noise, but that doesn't bother us. If it bothers you, ask for a room in the back. We also arrived early in the morning but fortunately our room was ready and they were kind enough to let us check in them. The rooms are clean and spacious enough, the breakfast is good and the location can't be beat. Termini and the metro stop is close by, other sights are in walking distance. We really like the Giuliana.

In 2008, this was my second stay at Hotel Giuliana. The first time, I had been there with my family members. This time, I was alone, and came back comfortable to incredibly warm welcome by Antonio, who is unsurpassed in customer service. Generally, Jean and Marianna are fantastic too, along with the rest of the staff. Hotel Giuliana is very clean, and at a great location. I would love to go back there soon, and have been recommending it to all my friends and family. It's a gem in Rome, and only enhances one's desire to visit Rome again.

I was very concerned shortly after we checked in the afternoon; there were about 50 police right outside our window; later we found out President Bush was in town; I felt very safe having the extra police around; Thank you to the family owners!

The staff at this hotel was incredibly friendly and the location ideal. My room (a single) was quite small and not air conditioned, but the people at the front desk could not have been nicer and the hotel is literally in the shadow of Santa Maria Maggiore and a 15-minute walk to the Trevi Fountain. The hotel is just blocks away from Santa Prassede and Santa Pudenziana, two gems of late antiquity that most tourists overlook.

Rome april 2008. We stayed at this hotel in for four days in april and we loved it! Nice clean rooms, friendly staff and in walking distance to most major sights. On arrival we took the express train from the airport to Termini and from here the hotel it was only a 10 min walk. For us the most important thing was to have a nice clean hotel close to the centre and not too expensive. The rooms were not very big, but the bathroom was nice and clean and the bed was comfortable. This hotels makes you feel like you are visiting someones home not a hotel and we think that is much nicer than a big fancy hotel that you have to spend a lot of money on. The staff were excellent, always helpful and all smiles:-)We will definitly stay here on our next visit to Rome and have already recommended it to our friends.

This hotel was very easy to find from Termini Station and we walked it in less than 10 minutes. The hotel had sent very good directions to us before we left home which I thought was very helpful. It is very close to the Bassilica de Maggiore which is worth a visit though if you go there for Sunday Mass be prepared to spend over 1 1/2 hours there! The hotel is also very near Via Nationale which has lots of high street shops. Didn't find any really nice restaurants in the area but maybe we were unlucky. We arrived late on our first night and were lucky to find an ok place on via Cavour which seemed to be the only place still serving food after 11pm. The hotel itself was fine. If you're looking for a reasonably priced, clean place to stay with pleasant staff and don't intend spending too much time in the hotel, then this is an ideal place from which to explore the city. If you're looking for luxury or some place romantic, there are more suitable places but be prepared to pay!

Actually stayed in 2 different triple rooms during our trip to Rome both facing the street which could get a little noisy at night. Our first room was small but adequate. However our second stay (room 6) there were no bathtub except a very tiny shower w/curtains. So you can imagine it's not easy keeping the water from reaching the bathroom floor with no visible drainage. A glass door would help. Two twin beds with sofa bed. Location is great. 10 min to the Termini, Colosseum, Roman Forum. 15 min to Trevi Fountain. 2 blocks to Santa Maria Magliore. Hotel's not that hard to find as some had mentioned. Direction from website and Google Earth were helpful. Breakfast is okay, basically croissants, cereal and yogurt. Have not found any decent restaurants to eat around the neighborhood except for a pizza shop a 30 feet away. Very friendly staff all 6 of them. For what Rome is, can't really find a cheap hotel with nice facilities. Even cheap is not cheap with the exchange rate. But when in Rome, you're not hanging out at the hotel, but the city.

I had an excellent experience at Giuliana. The staff is English-speaking, and very friendly. My room was very clean and everything worked. Only complaint was that it was quite small, but I guess that's what you get in most hotels for that price and location. It faced the main street and was a wee bit noisy, but very manageable, especially as I was out the whole day. No problem with heat and hot water. Bathroom was understandably small, but clean and efficient. The hotel itself is quiet, warm, and welcoming. The hotel's just a 5-10 min walk from Termini, the main train station. It's in a nice, clean, safe area, and walking distance from most major attractions. Breakfast is OK. Standard fare of cereal, bread/butter, some rolls, juice. Just your basic stuff. I wanted something clean and quiet and close to the attractions, and for this price, I was very happy with what I got. The pizza place next door is quite good and there's a supermarket around the corner.

Located very close to Termini train station, so if you take the train in from the airport you could easily walk to the hotel (about 5-10 minutes). My mother and aunt stayed at the Hotel Giuliana and had a great time. They are satisfied about everything. The staff are REALLY helpful and friendly and provide extra service. My mother was fasting so they gave her her breakfast late at night instead. And when the taxi came for them to leave and they didn't have enough Euros they exchanged Swedish kronor for them (even though they don't provide the service officially). You will not regret a stay at the Guiliana. If you're after really cheap then find something else but if you want a good hotel, at a reasonable price for central Rome...this is it! A small hotel, with even smaller rooms, but clean and welcoming. From the hotel you can reach on foot all the major attractions of Rome (5 minutes walking to Quirinale, 10 minutes to the Trevi fountain ). The breakfast is very simple (cornflakes and croissants) but it was enough for us. It is not easy to locate the hotel, since it is on the first floor of an anonymous building: you will recognize it only from the small sign outside and the name on the door bell.

I stayed at the Guiliana for 7 nights and had an excellent stay. I chose this place primarily because the wonderful staff speaks English, as this trip was my first to Italy and I was uncertain about my language skills. Everyone made me feel very welcome and was very very helpful. The owner is a sweetheart of a person. The second reason I chose the Guiliana was for its location. I was very very happy with the location too. It was close to Termini and close enough to ancient Rome to walk. I am a walker so I just planned to walk almost everywhere I could. I never had to take a taxi. The Vatican and S.Peters were a little far so the subway was my choice of transportation and was very easy to get to from Termini. Just pay attention to the direction. It is all well marked with signage. I was by myself and only took a large daypack for luggage for the trip. The breakfast was a very good continental breakfast. I especially enjoyed a fresh made cappuccino every morning and stimulating conversations. There were many shops out the door and to the right and pizza and restaurant to the left. There is an open market just on the next block in the mornings. Overall I was very happy with my stay. I was treated with kindness and concern. I will stay here again without hesitation. Hi to everyone there. Regards, L.L.

The Hotel Giuliana is a charming little hotel near the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, on one of Rome's many shopping streets. You will receive very cordial greetings from one of the four people who man the front desk 24 hours a day, and they all speak fluent English (most are either American or British). A small cafe near the front desk provides you with caffe or cappucinos or other drinks at any time, at a reasonable cost. The rooms are tight, European-style; I had a single with a comfortable-enough bed, and there was room to move, at least, in the bedroom area. A tall cabinet provides a space to leave your luggage and clothes. The bathroom was a little small even by European standards; it was difficult to move within it, especially with the door opening inside. But the facilities were in good shape and clean. The shower, tight-fitting as usual, was its own little room in the bathroom (as opposed to a shower head out of one the walls and blocked off by a shower curtain), and the water pressure was fine, with hot water. My single cost 120 euro a night, I think pricey for what it was, but that's Rome. Being in Rome, you will likely hear traffic outside your window, and the staff warns of you that and shows you how to deal with the window. They also provide a quiet fan in your room to help with the heat. Giuliana came well-recommended at tripadvisor.com, and those recommendations were correct. This is a safe bet in Rome.

The Motel was situated in a great spot but upstairs, the downstairs entrance, was an empty and smelly space and no signs to help find the Motel, I was travelling with my friend and we had requested 2 beds, when we got there our room contained one double bed, we said we wanted 2 and after some thought the manager directed us to another room with twin beds. This room was in much better condition than the 1st room, which had a very small and ordinary bathroom and looked like it need a good clean and paint job. The second room was fine, although still needed a paint job. I asked the manager if we could have the control for the air conditioner and he said yes but don't tell anyone as the room you are now in is a Deluxe room and you have only paid for a standard room and tomorrow we will be shifting the beds into the standard room for you. This meant that there would be no air conditioning and it was very hot. Our room cost 160Euros per night. We went for a walk around the area and asked to look at some rooms in other hotels, for the same price or cheaper, we were offered on each occasion a room with airconditioning and in every instance a better appointed room. We finally found a great room in a great hotel. We stayed at the Giuliana 1 night and left for the Hotel Rex which was fantastic. I can't recommend the Hotel Giuliana although the staff were very nice, the rooms for the price were not satisfactory and every room we looked at in the area was cheaper and better than the Giuliana.

Very enjoyable stay. Definitely would come back and would recommend it to others. Staff was outstanding, including front desk, pool, bar, breakfast and room cleaners. Internet facility was good. Too much smoking in Italy made it a problem, but it is not the fault of the hotel

We had a four day stay in Rome and staying at the Hotel Giuliana made the stay a very pleasant one. The staff and owners were very friendly, helpful and courteous. The room we had was spacious with all the necessary basic facilities, Fridge, Kettle and TV, that add that little bit to the pleasure when you travel extensively. The location is good, the Spanish Steps are a 20 minute walk away, the Colosseum 15 minutes away, although at night the immediate neighbourhood seems a bit underpopulated. Come the morning though and the neighbourhood tranforms into a bustling area. Bottom line, would we stay there again, very most definitely

The hotel is very nice. The staff are very helpful, welcoming, and speak perfect English. I wish the sheets were softer and newer. Very clean in general.

Just spent a fabulous 4 days here, all the staff where friendly and helpful, any request we had was met above and beyond what we asked for. We where giving travel advice and maps with pointers to less obvious attractions and plenty of advice on how to get around. The location was ideal for us, with the metro stop only a 5 minute walk away. Cannot recommend this hotel and staff more highly.

We spent trhee nights at the Hotel Guiliana, two at the beginning of our trip and our last night in Italy. We received a warm welcome both times. When we arrived the first time, we were early, but our room was quickly prepared so we were able to freshen up and start our sightseeing right away. We were delighted with the spaciousness and cleanliness of our room, especially the bathroom! The price was very affordable, and we were very impressed with the quality. The staff went out of the way to help us, giving us directions, sightseeing tips, and arranging transportation. It was a great way to start and end our trip! If we're lucky enought to retur to Rome, we will certainly stay at the Guiliana again.

I liked this place a lot. It was clean. My husband was not so pleased with the size, but he was having culture shock anyway. The guy who checked us in however informed us to buy galoshes for Venice, which I guess wold be good advice during the right season, but brought on unreasonable fear for us foreigners, especially since it did not flood at all while we were in Venice, and in fact was quite nice! The entrance to the Guiliana is also decieving. I quite like the charm and mystery of the halway and big elevator, but it did not sit well with my husband!

This is a buzz-from-the-street and they let you in. Hotel is up one floor. Small, but it seems like they're redoing the rooms. Much construction noise while I was there. People at reception were very nice. Ok if you need a hotel near the train station for an early train or flight. Not near major attractions for sightseeing.

The Giuliana lived up to the other reviews we had read -- the staff was uniformly warm, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was generous and the breakfast room quite pleasant. The location is central and only a 10 min. (tops) walk to Termini Station so the hotel is near all bus routes. Our only criticism was the the room might have been a bit cleaner, but I would certainly recommend it to friends.

The Guiliana is an excellent place to stay if you are visiting Rome on a budget. The rooms were spotless and the staff were extremely friendly. It is also in an ideal situation for visiting most of the sights, as well as being near the station. We will definitely stay there again when we return to explore more of Italy

The Giulliano Hotel was ideally situated, within 10 mins walk from Termini. It fulfilled our requirement for a friendly, clean, hotel, and situated within easy access of the main undergound/train/bus station. Both the bedroom and bathroom were immaculate and spacious. I would not hesitate in using it again or recommending it to a friend.

Probably the friendliest staff you will ever come across. Located 5 minutes walk from the train station, excellent location to explore the City. The room was very big and spacious, we were even given a complimentary bottle of wine because we were celebrating a birthday. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Giuliana, made fast friends with Jeanne and the staff, and will certainly stay there again and recommend to our friends. The location is a wonderful alternative to the usual "near the station" options, the hotel is spotless, everything comfortable and personal. They could not have been mpore helpful, from an early morning taxi to the airport to restaurant recommendations. Brava!

The bed was not clean. We had plastic towels on breakfast and plastic flowers on the room. The breakfast was very bad: it didn't have fresh rolls or croissants; it didn't have cheese or ham; everything was 'plastic'.

The Giuliana would be a nice, typical small Rome hotel, except for its hospitality and service, which make it extraordinary. The folks who run it, and all of the staff, are very welcoming and eager to please. English is spoken. Jean (the proprietor) and her staff really know what they are doing.

The web price was 10 euro less than the other three star hotels. The reason why, there is no air condition at that price. So in the middle of the hotess summer on record I need to pay extra for air conditioning ! I had left before receving E mail ,what a surprise! I could have gone to other hotels for that same price! One more thing I had my daughter with us , she is 7 . We asked for a cot , the afternoon employee said it will be in your room.It was not ,the night employee said in the morning it will be there. The morning employee said that a cot is only a baby crib and you would have to pay for a extra person before we would put a extra bed in the room ? I would never use this hotel again!

We stayed 4 nights at hotel Giuliana. A very small hotel claimed to be 3 stars while it is actually only 2 stars hotel (in the Rome hotels directory). They charged extra 10 euro for using aircondition. Breakfast was poor and so are public areas, though very good location - you can walk your way everywhere and if you prefere public transportation it is only few minutes walk. It's clean but very simple. It's run by nice people and if you don't expact luxury it can be a good choice for visiting Rome.

With no main doors facing the street, the entrance into the Hotel is certainly differant and at the begining somewhat confusing. However once we had ridden the elevator to the 1st floor to the Hotel lobby, we were greeted with a most friendly and welcoming reception. The Hotel is very clean, the rooms spacious, the staff very courteous, and we would have no hesitation in highly recommending this Hotel.
