The hotel is ok for the price. The staff is friendly. The location of the hotel is good. The termini station is just nearby, and there are restaurants and grocery store on the street where the hotel located. The breakfast is delicious, especially the coffee.

This hotel is in a good location, but the room was cramped, the internet did not work in the room as promised, the staff was (with one exception) bordering on gruff, breakfast was limited in choice with prepackaged goods and machine coffee, and the rugs look as though they haven't been cleaned in decades. It is a place that once was likely very good and could be again with some real care given to cleanliness and service. But right now, it's not worth the money.

The hotel was clean and relatively quiet for the Termini area, an excellent location for getting to any of the main tourist areas by metro. The rooms were basically good and the staff most welcoming. The breakfast area was overcrowded and untidy, and the food provided was basic continental fare. For the money paid I have stayed in better accomodation in this area (but I have also stayed in much worse!). The shower was a mixer tap in the bath, and it was quite a step up to get into it so I wouldn't recommend for older guests. A good basic hotel with few frills.

Location of hotel is very convenient because it is right next to Termini(main metro and bus station); so it made it very easy to get around Rome. But do not expect quietness due to where the hotel is located (it was very loud early each morning). Hotel has nice lobby, but does not have free internet. Breakfast was included. Hotel rooms appeared old with very small bathroom, but overall service and quality was fairly good for price paid.

Our room was fine, but the temperature was mid 30's (C) and humid, and the air conditioning wasn't turned on. As a result, the room was stifling with the window closed, but too noisy to sleep with the window open.

My sister and I stayed here in 2006 and had a very nice experience. That year (2006) there was a most couteous and friendly staff. Our breakfast also was very nice with fruit, cheeses, yogurt and other choices. This hotel has definitely gone downhill since 2006! In April, 2009 there is an overall lack of maintenance in the building. Elevator seemed as if the floor was about to fall through. Our bathroom had a rotten door with pieces ripped out at bottom and huge areas of no paint because of rot. The door of the small refrigerator in the room would not shut. Staff was courteous but not overly friendly, in fact kind of grumpy, and breakfast was severly cut back to cold hard boiled eggs, bread and cornflakes, and a cold ham tray with a few pieces of ham each morning...no yogurt, cheeses, or fruit. What a disappointment! The only good thing about the hotel is the nightly rate and it's close proximity to the train station and metro. Will not stay here again nor recommend it to anyone else.

It was a triple room, quite big, but unfortunatly the air in the room was like 10 people were smoking there. I think the problem is in the carpet which soak up all the smells. In general the room was nice and the staff too. Sometimes there were flashing lights over the bed, so it made feel us like we are in the old opera and the phantom is near...So if you like pungent feelings this is for you!

Very good relation beetween price and quality. Positive things: very spacious room, nice employees, very near to the rail station (3-5 minutes walking), many restaurants, pizzerie and internet points near the hotel. Negative: a bit noisy for traffic, not nice surroundings (but not dangerous). I choose this hotel becouse near the rail station, i'll come back there again if i'll need again to move early from Rome.

Hotel was not hard to find from Termini station--signs on the roads nearby. The front desk person was not very welcoming and not helpful. Rooms were more than adequate, bathroom was clean and newly renovated. Breakfast was typical Italian fare. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about.

Dear Venere, My expectation was that Venere would recommend reputable hotels only. I was perturbed at the poor state of the en-suite at this hotel as there was mould & mildew on the ceiling - as a minimum I would expect clean showering facilities. The room was small with in sufficient air conditioning facilities & had an unpleasant smell. In addition my holiday was ruined by obtaining bite's which following a visit to my doctor it has been confirmed that these could be flee bites. Please can you advise on advise on how Venere will compensate me for my unpleasant & upsetting experience?

Hard to find, make sure you have good directions. The included map is not helpful and is inaccurate. It would be helpful for the hotel to answer e-mails sent to them. I requested an extra night, they didn't respond, when we showed up, they said they had given the room up because we didn't call. It's not easy to call from the US, and not easy to understand their phone system with luggage and a family in tow. E-mail communication would have been helpful.

While the location was perfect (we were going to the Opera and were literally round the corner), the hotel was a typical city hotel. The room itself was spacious enough but the bathroom was small and poky. The breakfast was quite poor with no fresh food but canned meat and fruit. The staff, however, were lovely - very friendly and helpful. Although the station was close, in the immediate area were some lovely restaurants and cafes and it felt very safe.

Apart from the overall stay, which was all in all rather good, an annoying inconvenient occured. The room had been payed in advance by my cousin to the receptionist, and I didn't know it, but before leaving I was asked to pay the room. I payed it, and just by chance I knew from my cousin I shouldn't have done it. Showing the two receipts I got the money back, the receptionist saying "the previous payment was not registered" !!!!

My first reservation through this website was for 1 night, on my way to Sardegna. Reception was not too friendly (had to pay directly, too); but later on one turned out to be communicating all right and helpful to find an address on a map. The room was not super but OK for the purpose. I thought the place was OK and handy, near the railwaystation, so I booked for 1 night a week later, on my way back. All right, everything was clear. When I arrived next time I had the same experience about unfriendly reception. As though I had not been there before and all my data already known. Moreover; the room was not ready, (quite logical at 10.00 a.m.) so I left my luggage there, and when I returned and was guided to my room (207, this time), it turned out to be very narrow, not too well kept and without any window. I felt claustrofobic in it. And yet the price was the same; 90 euro's, which I think very expensive for that room. On my critical remarks at the desk there came none understanding. I spent as little time as possible in the room. Sleeping & shower were OK.

This has not been the first time I have stayed at this facility. I find it very convenient coming from the Termini station - only a few steps away. The hotel is still under renovation: rooms are pretty spacious and relatively modern. Personnel at the front desk was helpful - we booked a private car to the airport thru the hotel and the service was impeccable. Much better than local taxis. I would recommend this hotel to all.

Poor check-in service. Our group of 9 rooms have paid for the rooms in advance. But upon check-in, reception staff denied any payment received and refused to allow 18 of us for the 9rooms to check-in. He also stubbornly refused to check with their bank and kept us waiting anxiously for half an hour until he finally checked with their bank and confirmed payment received. NO APOLOGIES was given at all. As the rooms were not ready, he also refused to allow us to deposit our luggage with them. Very terrible experience we had at the hotel that we will not recommend or stay again!

The room was so small! There was only 12" on one side of the double bed and no place to put our baggage! The room next door had only a thin wooden communicating door adjoining ours. There wasn't even a window in the room! When I went to retrieve my passport the desk said, he had returned it to me! After a frantic search I returned to desk where they DID have it. The bathroom was moldy. I travel in europe about 30% of the year and escort groups! Worst hotel I have stayed at in years!

When we arrived the hotel only had us down for 2 rooms. Fortunately I had printed out the confirmation from Venere. A bit flustered, the clerk found a third room for our group. What a disaster! The third room - #106 - had BEDBUGS! Our friends did not discover them until the morning we were checking out. When I informed the desk clerk his only response was that the "would let the maid know." There was no apology on behalf of the hotel, no offer of compensation, no acknowledgement of what an awful situation it was. We felt the situation was handled very poorly by an uncaring / unresponsive employee. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. DO NOT STAY HERE!

My husband and I stayed in a double room from July 24 - 27, 2005. We were there as part of a group of 17 which included 2 families of 4, and 1 single. This review is a summary of all our experiences. Poor ventilation and sealing in the bathrooms resulted in watermarks and mold in the paint throghout the hotel. Some rooms were disgusting. Assuming you aren't bothered by mold, everything else about the hotel was clean and well-kept. The rooms were quite large for 2 people, but the same size room with 2 additional twin beds were extrememly cramped for the families of 4. 2-3 people could use the bathroom at the same time if they were well-coordinated. The hotel is only a block and a half from Termini and the subway station. Despite this, the location was quiet and not particularly scary at night. There are a large number of restaurants and cafes within a short stroll of the hotel. The breakfast offered is a bit meger, with only canned fruit cocktail, 2 kinds of ham, flaked cereal and a couple of hard rolls and jam. The blood red orange juice was a nice treat. The coffee came from a little automated machine, you could choose black, sugar, creamer, or hot chocolate. If someone in your party has a disaability, this hotel is a bit difficult to access with about 8 steep steps with no handrail, just to get into the lobby. Also, the tub/shower has very tall sides reqiring a big step up or down to get in/out. Once inside the hotel, there is a small lift, which can accommodate 4 people very snugly. Overall, I'd say the price was fair. But you're paying for the location and not the quality of accomodations. If you're staying in Rome for more than 3 days, I would recommend staying in another hotel, on the other side of the river, for half your stay.

AC was broken had to badger the front desk in order to get a room change after it was supposedly fixed twice. Staff help in directions and locations were weak. Clean room and bathroom. Breakfast wasn't anything spectacular but it was free.

The only good thing was the location. Room was terrible. 4 person suite had a broken double bed, a sofa bed and they brought in a cot. A/C went out the last day. Not a 3 star hotel. More like a 1 or 2 star. Staff not overly friendly. Elevator worked 50% of the time often returning to the ground floor and then wouldn't move. Had to use the stairs alot. There were no mini bars or refrigerators in the rooms. I would definately stay somewhere else next visit.

This hotel was great. The rooms were huge compared to other european 3 star hotels. the staff was very friendly and spoke english very well. The location is awesome only 2 blocks away from the train station. i will go back to this hotel and i would recommend it to anyone.

Great location. be sure to exit the termini station at the main entrance (by busses) and not the commuter train entrance on the side -- its a short walk this way. otherwise, you are dealing with luggage and cobblestone streets uphill for several blocks!

Room very clean and roomy. Staff at front desk (three different gentlemen) were quite helpful and friendly during our stay. Good location for access to Termini train station. Only minor problem was the bathroom's handheld shower nozzle, which sprayed water everywhere. I would still consider staying at the Giglio dell'Opera again.

This hotel is a dump!! and not worth the money. there was mold and mildew all over the bath tub tiles, the a/c didn't work the carpet was dirty as well as the walls. The bell hop had body odor so baldy we didn't want to ride in the elevator.Just take a look at the dirty old fake flowers when you walk in the entry and it's the beginning of the worst impression we got in rome.I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

We were given a family room as requested. It was adequate, but cozy (cramped) as their were two adults, a 16 year-old and twin 7 year olds. The accomodations were fine though but the customer service was not as nice as we recieved in London, Paris, or Florence. Breakfast was included and was fine. I would still stay here again, but 165 euro a night seemed kind of high for what I consider a two star property. Great location though... Near the train station and the metro, and we walked to the Colliseum, and the Hard Rock!

The a/c was broken, so very noisy due to having to leave the windows open. The elevators VERY tiny, hard to get your suitcase to the room. The halls had holes then covered with pictures. Breakfast was good. Front desk staff helpful in getting cab to the airport.

Whlst there was a general shabby appearance to the rooms, they were clean and the staff, especially the night staff, more than made up for this. We had a great stay. Be warned about the pickpockets in Rome, mainly on the metro and the buses, but don't let them spoil your stay.

The hotel was about 2 blocks from the termini. The rooms were standard European rooms- small shower, adequate beds- but nothing plush. It was a little bit pricey for the rooms when we went but our timing was bad b/c Pope Ben XVI was having his inaugural mass that weekend. The area surrounding the hotel is very cute. It was a easily do-able walk to the forum and other sites- except for the Vatican- although we did walk there too (took a cab back). The rooms were clean, the staff was (for the most part) friendly, breakfast is buffet style so you don't have to wait and the breakfast room is big enough to accomodate all.

The hotel was fine, the decor in the room was quite good. The staff on the desk could have been a tad friendlier. The breakfast was contintental but it was quite adequate as such. The breakfast room was clean and the lady greeted the people. The hotel is situated not far from the train station termini which was excellent if you were travelling to other cities by train. It was also easy to walk to a lot of the attractions and not far from the main bus stop for the big red bus that took you to all the attractions if you decided not to walk. I enjoyed my stay in Rome in this hotel.

Overall our stay was fine and we would stay there again...just some small minor issues-The area was congested but hey you are in Rome near the train station so for the convenience you have to deal with the neighborhood hustle and bustle. The room was nice and clean but it was very hot and the controls did not seem to work to turn down the heat. Small inconveniences that would not prevent us from recommending it to others.

Is very close to termi station, our room was clean and nice. The night receptionist was great and we had no problems with our late check-in, like i have had before in Italy. Also the hotel is open 24 hours a day and the price to quality is fair. We had hot water and the elevator is working now.

My wife and I spent the first weekend of our honeymoon in Rome, so we looked hard for a really good small hotel in the city centre. Apart from the EXTREMELY noisy air conditioning, everything was what we hoped for. The location is excellent, within walking distance to practically everything, and with Metro and buses around the corner. The staff were friendly but unobtrusive, very service-minded. Our room was comfortable, clean and cool, although the A/C was a horror... All said, we will probably stay in Giglio next time too. I definitely recommend this hotel!

Dear venere.com, i think that your overall booking service is excellent, esp. the immediate availability of rooms. the hotel gilio opera in roma was a very bad experience. i had booked a quad thinking of a room/rooms to sleep 4 people. i was not prepared to find a cot and a sofa bed for 2 of the 4 people. i had to book another room.the hotel had nothing available for the first night and referred me across the strteet to the hotel gadia. i nughtmare . the key to my room broke off in the door and they charged me 40 euros for this ,after a 3 hour wait--said it would be 30 mins. i even trieds helping the clerk. i talked to the manager of the hotel giglio and and he tolm me not to worry. upon leaving there was a scene in the street with a guy from the gadia screaming at me. the experience was bad. i will cont4st the charges. sincerely, kevin walls

The hotel is very near "stazione termini", so the street is noisy. you also hear everything from the corridor. I think, the quality offered is poor for a three star hotel. There was no minibar in our room, the heating did not work, the lamp on the table did not work, there was no telecommand for TV - watching tv was impossible. I hope that other 3 star hotels in Rome are better !
