The staff were very helpful and friendly, our double room and public area's were more or less as shown on website, however a single room we booked for my mother in law was not much bigger than a closet. So double rooms 4.5/5 single rooms 2/5.

Funiture in the room was very dusty but the bed linen was clean and fresh. The fridge did not keep drinks cool and did not have cotrols. The bathroom was always clean as were the towels. The room was large and well appointed. The inclusive breakfast had a good choice of continental style fare. It was in a very good location, nice and close to Piaza Narvona which had numerous excellent places to eat.

This is a nice hotel. The place is very good, close to everything. You can walk very easy! The beds aren´t so good, and a lot of noise came from the bar in front of the hotel. The employees were very efficient, helped us in everything. The breakfast was ok too

Our first stay, and the rooms were nice and large. The view was sad, but the noise during the night was not cars and people, but birds and perhaps cats? Would have liked to use the Internet in my room, and not having to go down in the hall. The Breakfast-room was far too narrow and small and the bread was boring. Otherwise, the food was good. The Location was perfect.

Hotel Genio has a superb location within walking-distance to several sights. Our room was ok, unfortunately with a view to a backyard. The room was not cleaned every day. The receptionists however were all of them excellent!

The hotel location is perfect in the center of the city. The room was adequate size. The roof top garden is beautiful, and we were given a room just down the hall from the door to the garden. There was adequate variety of breakfast foods to jumpstart the morning. The hotel gives you a map of Rome - don't spend your money at one of the corner map stands.

The room was adequate but was sorley in need of redecoration. It was some kind of garden room at the very top of the hotel and at the back. The room was all glass on two sides with curtains that did not work and covered where the windows would open (in high summer it would have been very warm!). I was very disappointed in the room for 130 Euros. It was clean and the bathroom well apointed. The breakfast was good in its overall provision. I would think twice about booking here again.

I booked a single, but the concierge gave me a " double" , telling me,the single rooms were too small. I appreciated the offer, after seeing the " double". My room ( nr 410) was quite nice , but the only view from the window was a dark hole and the bathroom led to a very dirty balcony. The breakfast though was nice and the service very friendly. The absolute fantastic location might explain the price, but in my opinion it is too high. Still, I would come back. Best Regards

THis hotel has a fantastic location literally round the corner from the Piazza Navona with a handy taxi rank and bus-stops practically outside the door. I was concerned prior to travelling about the condition of rooms and the breakfast having read other reviews, however, my fears were unfounded. The bathroom is modern and large as was the bedroom for the average city hotel in Italy. Similarly, I found the buffet breakfast excellent with coffee served to table and every choice from parma ham, and other meats, cheeses, melon and other fruits, cereals, eggs and a selection of croissants and other pastries. The occasional reception staff worker looked bored with their job - but overall, in the main, reception was efficient.

The highlight of this property is: 1: the location, convenient to all the attractions of ancient Rome, most within walking distance, and great dining and outdoor cafes 100 yards from the front door. 2: The friendliness and competency of the front desk, all of whom spoke English very well, and were prompt and knowledgeable with all messages and information. There were no surprises or disappointments! 3: The morning continental breakfast was excellent, and included salamis, cheeses, breads and danish, yogurt, cereals, juices, etc.

At first, we were not happy with our welcome person but then when we mentioned it to another person everything changed and we received complete cooperation. Breakfast personnel could be a little friendlier. We were given very good service by the behind the counter persons after the initial encounter and would go ack again.

Hotel price is not the same that I saw in Venere web page.I asked triple room but they gave dbl and additional bed. After the unpleasant conversation they changed my room to the reel triple. There was some misunderstanding on reception and because of that I depart from Italy without passport .It was terrible sunday morning to go police station ,try to find take photo,go to ambassy (also nobody work and try to collect persons)and try to catch flight. Than they called me that my passport at the hotel(They said in my room).I organised a cargo to get back my passport to me.Majority of the stuff was perfect except one.Actually I am not a person that I complaint my situation.I am travelling 35 week in year and I used to get wrong information and unpleasent service time to time. But this was the terrible choice from your web site.I am sorry but next time I will think twice to searc from Venere.

We booked two rooms, a double which was fine but I felt was still expensive for what it was; also booked a single room which was on the first floor and was quite disgusting for the price (130 Euros per night) certainly could not be described as 4 star. The room was pokey and smelt. Also breakfast was very poor. The coffee offered was cold and had been brewed for a long time, far from fresh and the fruit juices tasted as if they had been watered down. The dining room itself was very unwelcoming. We only went in one morning then gave it a miss although it was included in the price. Overall the hotel was very expensive for what we got.

Leisure trip - stayed in single room for my visit of 3 days, 2 nights to tour around Rome. Hotel did lose hot water one night, so cold shower in morning, but problem was fixed that day.

The location is excellent...walking distance to everything. Very close to the Piazza Navona. When we arrived, the welcome was not overwhelming but the staff was courteous when asked questions. Breakfast was filling but could have used some changes since the same items are served every day. The rooftop terrace is wonderful and we had wine & cheese up there twice and enjoyed the beautiful views. The room was not huge by American standards but certainly adequate. Bathroom is marble with a shower, no problems there. Overall, we were happy here.

The hotel will offer an airport transfer for €55 - DO NOT ACCEPT !! There is a fixed rate of €30 from each airport to the city centre, and there is a taxi rank opposite the hotel. We stayed 3 nights and the hotel's location is excellent. Our room was a little small but good overall. Breakfast was good but coffee was served in a jug and so it was cold.

We stayed in Rome only for the week-end and the hotel is located in a very strategic spot, ten minutes walk basically from everything you would want to see in Rome. The only remark is that breakfast is served in a typical breakfast room on the floor level and not on the beautiful roof terrace from where you have a stunning view over Rome!!!

Genio is well located, central and easy to get to. Yet, its single rooms are too small, facing the back yard which is noisy of the airconditions of the rooms. The prices are too high for that kind of rooms (130 Euro a night). The top floor, on the roof is nice, and has a nice view, but it is closed in the evenings (the only hour to si there in peace in the summer). All in all - one could expect more from a central hotel.

Best aspect was the short distance from Piazza Navona otherwise it was very expensive for the small room I was given. The bed was an iron frame with a collapsing mesh grid and a soft mattress on top. made a horendous noise when you moved or turned over. Bed had to be hard up against one wall to allow the door to open. Window in bedroom effectively didn't open, or at least the shutter didn't, hence no daylight in the bedroom. To see what the weather was like you had to open the bathroom window and crane your head out. Bathroom otherwise was quite respectable and nearly the size of the room itself. TV was the usual european 15" which hardly worked. Was placed on top of the wardrobe hence a long way away so couldn't be watched anyway. No security box in room. Breakfast room small and very "normal" food selection, should also have been better for a four star. Maybe some of the rooms were better, mine must have been the smallest available. Generally clean and staff were pleasant and helpful. To go back to the start, a very good location indeed but the room I got was by no means 4 star quality.

Genio are part of the Leonardi hotel group which own about 14 hotels around Rome. They appear to use the desirable price and location of Genio to fill their other hotels by bouncing people elsewhere on arrival with feeble excuses about leaks etc. It is an unscrupulous practice that Venere should take no part in fostering. It is only by people complaining to the hotel management and not accepting their excuses and alternative arrangements that a stop will be put to this practice. If you do not want to run the risk of being bounced to a hotel elsewhere in the city and do not want the hassle of complaining then I suggest you book somewhere other than Genio. If you are lucky enough to be able to stay there it is actually very pleasant and accommodating but it is whether you want to take the risk. My story: Having read previous reviews about people arriving and being sent to other hotels, once I had made the booking I contacted the hotel to let them know I would be arriving with a small child after midnight and for the hotel to assure me that my booking at Genio was confirmed. They confirmed the booking immediately and nearer the time we arranged a transfer from the airport to the hotel. However on arrival at the hotel with child at 12.30am we were put in another taxi and taken to a different hotel where we were put in an attic room with twin beds and no cot. They said they would find another room for us the following day. The next morning I told them we did not want to stay there and they moved us back to Genio but presumably bounced someone else to accommodate us. Be warned!!!

The location of the facility is fabulous. It's a two minute slow walk to the Piazza Navonna, and five minutes to the Pantheon, or the Vatican the other direction. However, the matresses are horrible!!. The first nite we had to sleep on a worn-out lumpy mattress, in a closet size room, untill they had some thirty rooms available the next day. We had to check four or five rooms until we found a set in a decent size room that was tolerable. Also, they do NOT have internet access available in the rooms, as described on the web page.

The hotel Genio is a dump. I can't imagine that any guest staying there had a good experience. Our room was awful, the shower did not drain and then after repeated requests to change rooms we were given and equally bad room on the last night of our four night stay; and guess what- the shower did not drain in that room either. There was a stench of dirty water, musty rugs etc, throughout the hotel. The staff at the desk was unwaveringly rude and arrogant. I travel to Italy several times a year for business and pleasure, speak passable Italian and was still treated as if I were an ignorant American tourist. It was especially disturbing since I always travel with the utmost respect and courtesy to everyone I meet. The women who worked in the breakfast also doubled as housekeepers and they were unfailing polite- I feel very sorry that they have to endure the rudeness of there fellow employees at the desk who clearly think that they hold some position of importance. I would hope that services like yours and Tripadvisor could exact some change, but unfortunately Hotels like the Genio stay well booked and do not feel that they need to change to accommodate there customers. One other thing, The hotel advertises itself on its facade as a four star hotel; perhaps this is in some violation of hostlry rules that you may wish to look into. You have my permission to send this letter to other travel websites.

The Genio is a great place to call home when seeing Rome. It is just 5 minutes from the Piazza Navona, and a short walk to many other sites. The staff were friendly, helpful and fully communicative in English. The smallish room size is typical of Rome, and indeed most European cities, so it should not be taken as a negative. The only observation we might make is that some hotels offer a bit more at breakfast, however we did not go away hungry. Besides, with all the good food in Rome, why fill up at breakfast? Excellent value for money. Highly recommended. We will stay there again. The Savvy Traveler http://thesavvytraveler.com

I stayed in the Hotel Genio in October 2005. The location of the hotel, just at Piazza Navona is excellent. You can reach everything you want in Rome on foot from there. The single room I had was tiny. There was no view. Not only that, the window had a shutter on it which could not be opened. It meant there was little or no daylight in the room. Having said that I didn't spend a lot of time in the room. There was a TV with no english speaking channels. This is rated as a four start hotel. It's not. It has no restaurant, other than a breakfast room. The breafast buffet was fine, not excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooftop garden was a bonus. It was a great location to stay in. Small things let the hotel down a bit. However I would recommend it as a place to stay, provided you don't stay in room 301. It was expensive for what was offered, but I wanted to be in the heart of Rome - and that you pay for!

At Check-in found room dark, hot, stuffy. A/C & TV remote did not work. Room overlooked dismal looking air shaft. Breakfast included: food was marginal at best. Two of four reception staff were helpful, two were completely unhelpful. Location fantastic; near Piazza Navona, Ponte Umberto I and easy walk to St. Peter's square and major sightseeing spots. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PROPERTY. I MADE MY RESERVATIONS MONTHS IN ADVANCE AND THEN, AFTER GOING THROUGH CONSIDERABLE TROUBLE TO LOCATE AND GET TO THE HOTEL, I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT HAVE A ROOM FOR ME DUE TO "OVERBOOKING". THEY OFFERED TO GET MY A ROOM IN ANOTHER OF THEIR PROPERTIES, NOT IN THE LOCATION I HAD SPECIFICALLY CHOSEN THE GENIO FOR, WHICH IS NEAR THE P. NAVONA. The location of Hotel Genio is excellent. It's very easy to embark on a walking tour of many Rome attractions from here. Although we easily walked to the Vatical Museum, a taxi would have been a better idea, as it would have saved 40 minutes of precious time. We also walked from the hotel to Piazza del Spago (Spanish Steps), then to numerous fountains and piazzas. The roof top terrace was the perfect place to end the day while eating some gilatto from the shop next door. The only complaint was the air conditioning. Our room (and many others we heard people talking about) would not cool off. Even asking for service didn't suffice. One vacationer said they insisted that their unit be cleaned, and then it worked only slightly. We know these kind of overhead units work, as other hotels throughout Italy cooled off perfectly.

I had requested an upper floor room with cross ventilation. The room we unfortunately were given faced a narrow passageway of a building under construction. Fortunately we didn't get to hear the construction because we checked out after one night: there had already been 2 power outages. Our original plan was to stay for 4 nights, but between the power out's and the dirty sheers and matching dirty carpeting, one night was enough. The gentleman who checked us in (short with gray hair) was most polite and respectful. The gentleman (misnomer, for sure) who checked us out was rude and dismissive. Although the location and marble bathroom was great, it was not enough to keep us at a hotel that was lacking courteous personnel and no electricity. We walked over to the hotel we stayed at last year on Via del Corso and for 2 euros more per night, we had an upper room with a terrace! We decided the Genio was for travelers who might not care about clean curtains/carpeting or having steady electricity. Stay away if cleanliness or the modern convenience of electricity is not your cup of expresso.

They offer a service for pickup and return at the airport. We did not get picked up and we were so late getting returned to the airport, we almost missed our flight. They shouldn't offer a service they can not provide. They were not concerned we never got picked up and they forgot to call for our return until we reminded them, which made us late.

Hotel is situated in a nice area with the Piazza Navona right around the corner. The hotel representative was very kind and helpful with directions and dinner reservations. Our room was clean and spacious in size, but some of the furniture and decor was a little outdated with the exeption of the bathroom which was beautiful. Overall, Genio was great for the price and served it's purpose just fine.

We got a really small and unconfertable room the first night which did not at all correspond to the photos showed of the rooms on the website. My husband and I was really dissapointed! Nevertheless we got to change room the next day to a much nicer. We were pleased with that, and the rest of the stay was wonderful. We will most certenly return!

The staff is very helpful and kind. I loved the location...it is close to all attractions in Rome. I walked everywhere!!!!!! The bathrooms are beautiful and the rooms are adequate. I would definitely come back and the breakfast is very good!!!

We had booked the Genio, but upon arrival we were told that we were staying at a completely different hotel. At no stage had either the hotel or Venere advised us about this. We had picked this hotel because of it's location and our holiday was badly affected by the fact that we were moved to a different part of the city.

Hotel is very well located, just 2 minutes walk to the north of Navona square. All of the main sites you want to visit in the `Historical centre` are within reasonable walking distance. The Vatican for example about 20 minutes or so with the Roman Forum about the same. (there is also a frequent bus service to the Vatican and other places from near the hotel) The room (I had a single) was on the small side but I`ve read that that`s normal for Rome. The room was clean though and the en suite shower/toilet (complete with bidet) was fine. There was no view, only 2 small windows opening to the inner courtyard of the hotel. The room had an air conditioning unit, I would think it would be very stuffy without it, certainly later than when I went in mid May. In fact I think I would find the city too hot toward mid summer! The staff at the hotel were excellent throughout. particularly the reception staff who were helpful and friendly. I would probably stay at the Genio again if I returned to Rome.... I`d love to.

Genio is the best Rome hotel I've stayed in and the price was extremely fair. It's perfectly located, not pretentious, clean, quiet and spacious. The roof top is not fancy but is always open and very unusual for Rome hotels.

My biggest issue is that we were given a single room despite paying top $ for a double. After complaining, the hotel staff tried to convice us that this is a standard double albeit the fact that the bed is so small, it can barely fit a 9 yr old let alone 2 full grown adults and that there was only 1 bed side table Unusual for a double room! After much insistance, we were finally moved to a proper room though 2 days later! The hotel offered no compensation nor an apology and I urge you to look into this matter. The only good thing about the hotel is its central location to Piazza Navona.

The hotel is truly decent. The location excellent. The staff pleasant and competent. This is not my first stay. But to call this a four star hotel is an insult to intelligence. If 10-11 square metres (which include bathroom nad not shred of mirror in room itslef) qualify as four star room then the books on what are hotels need to be rewritten.

I booked a single, and the first night I was in probably the smallest room in Rome, however I didn't really care that much except the bed was uncomfortable. Without me saying anything, the concierge told me a better room would be available for the rest of my stay and they would move my things the next morning. I thought that was exceptional, and the next room was much much more comfortable. I would stay here again, no question.

The hotel was in a fantastic location, near enough to walk to all the major sights. The Piazza Narvona was just around the corner!! The room was very spacious and the staff were helpful and polite. I was impressed with the variety at breakfast and the quality of the public areas. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will definitely stay again!

Good hotel with good location. We had a large room, friends didn't. Good breakfast, limited space in breakfast room, some poor service at breakfast. Very good and helpful at reception. Recommended.

The hotel was as described. The rooms were clean and quiet. Staff were polite and helpful. The location is perfect and views from the rooftop terrace splendid. Only minor complaint was that the heating was a little late coming on (6.30p.m.) and the rooms rather chilly until then. We would definitely use The Hotel Genio again.

Very good hotel. Clean, nice rooms, all be it a bit small (normal for Rome). Very good location, near everything. Staff very professional however not very friendly. Recommended a great resturant, which was the hightlight of our trip.

We stayed on two occasions: Jan. 21, and again on Jan. 29 and 30. The only problems: Jan. 21 we had to ask for heat which we were told would be turned on at 6:30 pm and I found that unusal. During our stay a week later, there was a problem with ants in the bathroom which we reported and it seems to have been taken care of within 24 hours. Otherwise, the visit was excellent and we would recommend your hotel to friends.
