Hotel Reviews Gea di Vulcano

United Kingdom, Oct 2009
Very comfortable hotel. Staff spoke good English and were very helpful, offering advice on travelling about the city and places to eat. The room was quiet, warm and comfortable. My only negative comment was that the double bed was actually two singles pushed together and not well secured. Breakfast was good with excellent choices. I would recommend the hotel.

Very good hotel, cheerful rooms. Chose it because of good reviews and it deserved them. Only hitch is access to hotel from street; ground floor looks deserted, have to make your way up to first floor to find reception.

The staff at Hotel Gea were wonderful. I was on a long voyage and they let me store a small suitcase while I was away from the hotel in another spot. They were very polite and accommodating, making dinner reservation, calling a cab and answering questions. Internet there was also available. The hotel is a little difficult to find on the main street but we found that once inside there was little noise. I would definitely stay there again. I am a frequent visitor to Rome.

Close to Termini, on main thouroughfare, and reasonably easy to find and access. Not best location for visiting city, but very good for overnight after arriving by train and before catching a plane the next morning. Service was friendly and helpful, and room was quiet and comfortable. Bathroom was biggest and best we had on trip.

The hotel was exactly what I expected. All the comments you can find on the site are true. Don't hesitate to book this hotel. We had a very spacious room with a seperate entrance. The hotel is close to most of the things you have to see in Rome. The metro station is close by and is easy to take. Our thanks to the very good welcome and to the friendly staff of the hotel. If we ever come to Rome again, this is the place we will stay again.

A very good stay for 2 nights. Agron was very welcoming & did his utmost to make us feel at home. An excellent place to stay near the Termini station & near the metro. Breakfast ample, people very pleasant. Will stay again when next in Rome.

I finally found the ideal hotel in Rome. Good prices, great location, clean and comfortable room with nice employees. We stayed in mid August,so good air conditioning in the room was essential. I am happy to say the AC worked perfectly, the bathroom had plenty of hot water and the bed was comfortable and clean. They even have tea/coffee making facilities and a minibar. The front desk women were very friendly and helpful with info and transfers. Most major sites (Forum/Coliseum) are within walking distance. I have been to Rome many times and this is the best budget hotel I have found. Will definitely stay here again and recommend it to all fellow travelers.

I travelled the world for 7 weeks and stayed at different hotels every 3 nights and found Gea Di Vulcano as my best stay. Friendly staff, clean room daily and also the cleaning staff went to great extend to even fold my lose clothes and hang them away and also great wi-fi reception. Thanks to the staff at Gea.

Excellent spacious appartment for us and our 2 boys who spent half the time charging up and down the length of the rooms! Very good price for what we got and all very central so an excellent base. Staff were all extremely helpful and rooms were spotless. Breakfast was OK - good for an Italian hotel! One small gripe is that being close to street level rooms were a little noisy first thing in the morning.

Very nice Hotel at very good price even in August. Excellent service and in a perfect place near metro station and Termini Train station. Some problem to find the hotel because of building number confusion in Via Nazionale, there is an alternative door entrance in Via Napoli 52 that should be showed in the web page.

The hotel was in great location, only about a 15 minute walk from the Termini train station. Close to the Metro also. I worried that it would be noisy but it was very quiet, at the back of the hotel far from the street noise. The breakfast was wonderful and plentiful.

A great place! My first stop in Italy and returned 2 weeks later after travelling a little. The receptionist was fluent in every language it seemed, and was very helpful. The hotel is 2 blocks away from the Repubblica station, and around the corner from Termini. A great place to travel around Rome from. The rooms are clean and have A/C.

I arrived late in Rome, around midnight, which I had announced. Although the hotel was not so easy to find, hidden away at the court yard of a larger building, they were expecting me and it was no problem at all. Also the early breakfast, as I had to take an early train the next day, was no problem. The room was just fine, everything clean and comfortable. If I hadn't decided to sleep with the window open, it would have been very quiet.

I stayed in the 2 bed apartment with my family which was very spacious would highly recommend. The hotel location is ideal for the metro or nearby restaurants and shops. Most of the major attractions are only 10 to 15 mins walk away. The hotel staff couldn't have been nicer.Ideal hotel for short break.

Gea was good value for the price. Staff was very friendly and helpful with good restaurant recommendations close by. Not the best location in town, but close to the metro & train station and walkable to the Forum and other sites. Room was not fancy but clean and comfortable. Good breakfast included in price. Only problem we encountered was that we wanted some ice and there was none available.

This is a great hotel to stay in that's in close proximity to the main train station, as well as a lot of the sites to see in Rome. It's about a 20 minute walk to the Roman Forum and a short walk thereafter to the Colosseum. Also not far from the Spanish steps (about 15-20 minutes in another direction). The rooms were more spacious than I expected, clean, and quite comfortable. The stay was made that much better by the excellent and service and advice of the front desk employees. They gave recommendations on ways to get to certain places, good places to eat, what price to expect for a taxi to the train station or airport, and were just generally very helpful and kind. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to any traveller who is looking for a 3 star hotel at a reasonable price close to the sights and transportation options. I read the other reviews when booking this hotel and can say that they were accurate in helping me know what to expect, especially as far as finding the hotel for the first time. Though the street address is Via Nationale 243, the side entrance is on Via Napoli, # 51, to be used to enter probably anytime after 6 pm. Not much of a problem though, if you know what to expect.

This hotel was excellent, and the girl at the front desk, Alessandra, was the most helpful person there. I guess most hotels in the area are small, because the room was small, but that didn't really matter. It is very close to all of the main attractions by walking, bus and metro. There is a metro station and bus stops (both tour and city buses) right outside the hotel. The entire staff is very helpful, even the ones who don't speak English. The only problem I can see is the lift is super small, and you have to use the side entrance after 7:00 p.m. and the hotel is on the second floor of the building. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel to anybody a thousand times over. Plus Rome is a great city!

The room was large enough but suffered from some poor interior decoration. However, the bath was lovely and spacious with a great shower and lovely tiling. The staff was attractive, friendly, and very helpful. My husband and I were very pleased. The hotel had a good location; we were able to walk to many sites and it was close to the train station. It also seemed to be host to a variety of travellers which only added to the interest. Oh, and the free WiFi, though available in the common area was much appreciated.

I loved this hotel. We asked for the romantic, 2-room tower suite that the photo is shown on the booking photo. It was oozing with charm and character. Wood beamed ceilings, a window seat with view over the street below, nice bathroom, ante room with armoir, couch, etc. We even had out own entrance outside the main hotel.Great value. It was one of the best highlights of our 4-night stay in Rome. I would definitely book there again. Staff wonderful. The standard rooms are okay, but don't have the character of this one. It made our anniversay so special.

Thanks to all staff, especially the smiling-face Massimo! Though the entrance to the hotel and to our room was awkward, which was probably due to age of the building, the room was incredible and the service was much more than we expected. In fact, having heard of the high prices compared to low quality of service, especially cleanliness, we were astonished. Staff was kind and helpful even though some did not speak English or German. Though they communicated with gestures and pointing, their smiling faces made us feel like we were not in the core capital of an ancient empire, but in a friendly village at the Meditterenian coast. Thanks to them all. If you plan to use the public transport facilities and walk whenever necessary, I think this is one of the best places you should consider. Meals? Well, we probably were not able to find any good places to eat. Not only around the place, anywhere in Italy (Rome, Florence, Vinci, Pisa, Venice)! Maybe this is because we are used to a much more sophisticated kitchen with a lot more varieties in our homeland, who knows? Pizzas were especially heart-breaking!

An easy walk, even pulling suitcases, from Termini Station. Venere comments (and Google maps & Street View) very helpful in pinpointing hotel entrance. Very warm welcome at Reception and room was ready even though we were quite early. Staff very helpful. Comfortable and clean room. Good choice at a typical continental breakfast. Breakfast starts at 0730hrs so, if you want to, you can be at the Vatican Museum by 0900hrs without rushing. Ideal location for walking to all the main historical sites. Very close to Repubblica Metro for going further afield. Some good, reasonably-priced restaurants in the side streets nearby. On our final day the hotel were happy to look after our bags after we checked out until we returned at mid-day to catch our bus to the airport. Overall, hotel was ideal for us for our short break in Rome.

A clean and comfortable place with a friendly and helpful staff. Spacious room and large bed. Quite a stroll to the Rotonda-Navona area but close enough to Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede, S. Pietro in Vincoli and so on... Breakfast ok (I can't compare to other places in Rome). Someone commented previously on the smell in the bathroom after flushig and that hasn't been fixed. Slow internet connection in the public computer and wi-fi only in the 'hall'.

First visit to Rome was excellent in part because of the excellent service provided to us by Gea Di Vulcano's staff from the warm smile and advice of Francesca to Maximo on a daily basis. Room was very spacious, clean and well prepared each day (double bed plus extra bed in its own separate alcove) designed with charm such as the unique floor tiles. Hotel was well within safe and leisurely walks from such spots as Trevi fountain, Forum and Termini station but more importantly was on a very central street that had everything from a supermarket a few blocks down to cafes, boutiques, restaurants and souvenir shops. Perfect location, excellent service, clean, spacious, comfy, charming and quiet room at a reasonable price makes this stay simply excellent (especially for a family of three with one small child no less!) Definitely will stay here again in the future. Minor inconvenience was having to take the side entrance on side street if returning to hotel after 8pm but otherwise, all else was great.

We decided on this hotel after we read the guest reviews and because it is situated in Via Nazionale, i.e. near Termini Station. We arrived about an hour and a half before check in time on a public holiday and immediately our hostess helped us with our bags to our room. This was a first for us as we always left our luggage at the reception and had to return after check in time. It was a good thing I studied Via Nazionale in the Google maps prior to our departure as the hotel is somewhat tricky to find. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Special mention must be made of Francesca and Massimo at Reception whose useful hints we very much appreciated. We stayed for five nights!

A good, clean, basic hotel, close to the Metro and many attractions, albeit in a fairly busy location. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable, and breakfast varied and plentiful, with great coffee (take your own tea supplies for your room, however, as their is a minibar charge for the teabags, coffee, sugar etc supplied). The church just across the street (St Pauls Behind the Walls) often hosts opera and classical music performances, and we thoroughly enjoyed La Traviata.

Hotel Gea for the most part is as described on Venere's website. It is a small hotel housed on the 2nd floor in a public building with other businesses. We were met at the front door by Francesca and she helped us with our luggage as you had to walk thru a long covered outside alley to get into their building and take an elevator up to the 2nd floor. We had reserved a triple room as we were a family of 3 (mother and 2 adult children). We were given room 27 or 37 that was a private apartment, which had 2 seperate bedrooms and a sitting room with it's own entrance on the side street. It was more than enough room. The furnishings were not elaborate but simple and clean, wood furniture and stain glass windows. Bathroom was a pretty blue and white tile. Breakfast was adequate(coffee, juice, pastries and cakes, cereal, ham, cheeses and fruit)in a small room of about 6 tables with an attendant who made your hot drinks. Location is right on Via nazionale Street where many public buses are available, and it's only 3 short blocks to the Repubblica metro station on Line A and about 4 more blocks to the Termini Station around the circle. You can easily walk to the Termini Station, but it was a litte hard to cross the street. If you like walking you can walk to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain from the Hotel Gea, but it is a little hard to follow a map because many of the streets don't have signs, the name of the streets are on the buildings. We only stayed at Hotel Gea for 2 nights as we were going a a cruise that departed from Rome, but I would stay there again for a longer visit if I could get the same room/apartment. They were also kind enough to hold our luggage on the morning we departed eventhough they really are a small hotel and don't have all that extra room in their lobby or reception area, since we were not being picked up to go the Port unitl 1:30pm and check out time was 10am.

I chose the Gea di Vulcano based on the guest reviews I read on Venere and wasn't disappointed. Just a note for fellow travellers - the doors from Via Nazionale into the building's courtyard are closed on Sundays. This confused me as I was looking for a building with a courtyard (based on the photos on the site). However, this was easily rectified (the building number is easily visible from the other side of the street) and the host/receptionist came down and helped me with my bags and showed me my room. Given the price and location, I was very pleased with the quality of the room. The lift is small - there was really only room for one person if you have luggage. Another warning - if you want the lift from the base of the stairs to the hotel, you have to buzz the hotel receptionist to operate the lift, otherwise you have to use the stairs (but the hotel is the first floor, so it's not as bad as it could be). The location was fantastic - I walked from there to a range of places in central Rome, including the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. There is also a supermarket about four or so doors down from the hotel, so you can buy the makings for lunches very cheaply. The walk from the Termini to the hotel was easy (once I worked out the best route), even with fully laden bags. As a single female traveller, I had heard stories about various concerns with the Termini area, but I had no problems with gypsies or bag snatchers. I walked around Rome all by myself (including to the Colosseum) and wasn't picked on/targeted/accosted at all. In all, I was more than happy with the hotel and would be happy to stay here again.

If you are visiting Rome to do the trips then look no further this is the hotel for you. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good and the reception staff are friendly and speak good english. The location is good, the A Metro line is 200 to 300 metres away and you feel safe at night. The rooms on the side street do suffer with traffic noise but it’s the middle of Rome so what do you expect. When doing the trips you have to be up early anyway and are worn out at night so it’s not an issue. If you want to lie in bed in the morning then this is not the hotel for you.

My first time here. Usually stay in Rome for an overnight after arriving by air in Italy and for another night before returning home. I look for somewhere convenient to public transport, which means near Termini. The place I have normally use has pushed its prices up and I came here for 30 €uros less. It was better in terms of facilities, location and above all service. The price, for Rome and for the location, is good and the hotel is very quiet despite its location as it occupies the back of a building on the Via Nazionale. The staff are all first class: a real "team" with high standards. But please don't all rush there and put the prices up. Remember I saw it first.

The hotel is very difficult to find, even when you're outside it! It is entirely screened from the street, which had some advantages in soundproofing the hotel from the extreme noise of Via Nazionale and its roadworks. Once found, the location is very good, though it is only one of several hotels sharing an old and distinguished building. The staff, particularly Alexandra, the receptionist, could not have been more helpful. Given the high prices of Rome hotels, this hotel is good value.

I have been to Rome many times and can definitely say that I'm very satisfied with the hotel, given the price, and its nice, friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend the hotel to everybody who likes a modest but quiet, clean and cosy room with a teakettle and a spacious bathroom full of useful items. Add the gorgeous breakfast offering even the famous Italian sliced ham. Russian-speaking guests may find advice from a Russian lady who serves at the hotel. Thank you.

This hotel had a super location! Very clean, nice bathroom, good breakfast. Bed was a bit uncomfortable, but after all the walking in Rome, I was still able to sleep pretty soundly, even though I was often woken up in the wee hours (5 a.m.-ish) of the morning from the noise from the street below, and I was facing the back street! Also, the lady at the front desk told me the wrong subway stop to get to the catacombs, which really caused a lot of confusion, as I was supposed to meet someone at this stop. Delayed us both for almost 2 hours before we finally met up! Other than that, the other staff were very nice and helpful. Although the front desk is open 24 hours, after midnight, the man at the desk speaks very little English, and he quite literally sleeps on a bed behind the desk, so I felt rather bad waking him up for questions on phone calls, etc. , even though he was very nice about it. Can't beat the location for the price! Would definitely stay there again -just wouldn't trust the woman at the desk for directions!

We stayed at the hotel with our 13 year-old son and we all enjoyed it very much. The room was much larger than we had expected. The people at the reception were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. We also enjoyed being able to make coffee or tea when we returned to our room in the evening. A metro station is very close to the hotel and you can walk to lots of sights, too. Due to road works on the Via Nazzionale it wasn't very nice in front of the hotel and it was also loud. But we will surely come back to the hotel when we come back to Rome!

Great liitle "pit stop" if passing through Roma. Very difficult to locate, especially at night. The three digit address does not correlate to the actual address on Via National and there is no sign indicating "hotel".

We had a fantastic room, it was actually 2 seperate bedrooms, bathroom, and another sitting room. Had our own side entrance. And free internet access. The location was fantastic and the woman at the desk was so helpful it was great.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly at all hours of the day. They allowed us to use their office computer to print out our airline boarding passes. The hotel also had a computer in their lobby for general use (although not hooked up to a printer). The complimentary breakfast had a wide selection of foods. The hotel packed us a boxed breakfast to go since we had a very early flight. The hotel is centrally located, 1 block from the subway, with bus service directly in front of the building so getting around was very easy. All in all a very enjoyable stay. We highly reccomend it.

pefect location as it is close to the train station but in a nice part. on a main road so easy to walk, get taxi, etc but hotel is set back so no noise. clean, nice bathrooms, lift, internet. Rooms in Rome and most cities are small that's just the way it goes. This was on the bigger side so great for two people. We will be back next year as our business takes us to Italy every year and we always need one night in Rome.

Nice clean hotel - we did not have any complaints. We only stayed there for one night before catching the flight back home. It was a convenient location and good enough for the price. The front desk was not very knowledgable about good places to eat around the area, but they were courteous and helpful.

Great location for visiting the Victor Emmanual II or the Coliseum. It was an easy location to find from Termini Station. The hotel is a little older and our room showed that. The bathroom was a little tight but manageable. Everything was clean and neat. The friendly employees all went out of their way to be extremely helpful to us.

A wonderful stay - shame it was one night only. The cleanliness of the room and the helpfulness and attitude of the staff were second to none. This hotel can be a little tricky to find if you arrive after 7pm; you have to go around the corner and ring a doorbell, but once you know what to do it is simple. I would happily stay here again, and will recommend the Hotel Gea di Vulcano to friends and colleagues. Booking through venere.com as I did, 80 euro per night was insanely good value!

I stayed one night in a single room. I found the front desk very helpful and the room to be clean. There was good service at breakfast. The location allows easy access to all the sites.

This hotel provided an excellent location for exploring Rome, being close to the Metro and also within walking distance of major sites. Hotel accomodation was excellent, very spacious and private with high quality furnishings. Breakfast was excellent with very helpful and friendly staff. Rome is very hot in August and the room had very good air-conditioning which made it a joy to come back to after a day touring Rome. Shower and bathroom facilities were very good. Only drawback was noise on some nights. The room was located above a bar/restaurant with tables outside and so was relatively noisy sometimes into the early hours. Whilst this was not a major problem for us I could see it irritating other people, but I guess that this is something that you have to accept in a large busy city such as Rome. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel for families. The hotel was high quality, excellent value for money and staff were attentive and friendly. The large family rooms provide separate bedrooms with their own TV's and lots of space.

We loved our stay here. We had a wonderful room for our family of four that consisted of two bedrooms and a very spacious bathroom. The breakfast was excellent and the staff went out of their way to make our visit memorable. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to our friends.

This is a fantastic 3 star hotel on one of the main roads in Rome, close to the metro, and 10mins walk from Spagna. We were lucky enough to get the small suite on the mezzanine floor close to the side entrance, which was perfect for our needs. The room is large, well decorated and maintained, and has plenty of wardrobe space; and the bathroom was a delight! This hotel is not the Ritz, Savoy, or the Hilton, so if that is what you want, go elsewhere: it is a 3 star hotel, but what it does, it does very, very well.

Excellent situation, near Termini. We stayed there 4 days, and we walked to everywhere, but there is a tube station very near, and lots of buses in Via Nazionale. Really nice employees, excellent welcoming. Breakfast is really good. Everything as shown in pictures: beautiful entrance and very clean and big rooms.

The family room at Gea di Vulcano was fantastic, a suite of 4 rooms, in fact. Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was first class.

This hotel is a good value. My wife and I stayed in early August and again in late August. We actually modified our reservations at another hotel (near the Vatican) when we returned to Rome in late August, since Gea is within easy walking distance of the Termini station, and it was priced well (85 euros/night). Above-average clean rooms. Don't take the seemingly free coffee or tea; it's 0.50 euros for each! Several staff members were very friendly, while some were just going through the motions, and everyone speaks English. The hotel common areas are not luxurious, but no one was spending much time inside anyway. Free internet use. Decent breakfast. Overall, I'd stay here again, but maybe not in the hot summer months, since the air conditioner in room 35 made a "ping" sound every 8-10 minutes or so, which prevented us from sleeping well one night (although the noise wasn't an issue the other four nights, and this was the only hotel we stayed at that actually had air con!)

Lovely hotel situated in the heart of rome, close to termini, yet set back in a courtyard away from all the street noise. Room was immaculately clean, staff impossibly nice & just was very happy with my stay. I will stay there again, most definitely.

Pleasant, comfortable hotel in a central location. Ideal as a base for a few days in Rome. A little bit of traffic noise, but not excessive. Good continental breakfast.

Adorable little hotel...great value. Very nice and helpful staff. A true 'European' experience (unlike any American chain hotel). The entrance is off Via Nazionale (a main Rome artery) and the hotel is a few blocks away from the Piazza Republica metro station. As this is a small hotel, there is no doorman/bellhop; you lug your own luggage (either up the stairs or using the small lift). We had 6 bags, so getting our luggage up to the hotel (on the first floor of a multistory building) was cumbersome. Overall, a great experience and reasonably priced.

Great location, not far to any of the sights. Nice clean rooms, excellent service and hospitality. A request to cater for a gluten free diet was made prior to the stay and although not expected I was treated to a choice of items for breakfast. Highly recommended.
