hotel front view
Located in front of the National Library, close to the Termini Railway Station, in Rome's historic centre, Hotel Galles was built in 1902 as a prestigious noble residence and transformed into a hotel in 1968. The building's architecture reflects the style in fashion during the reign of King Umberto I.
Featuring spacious and elegant guest rooms, fashionable English-style halls, a fortunate central position, and sophisticated furnishings evoking an old-world atmosphere, the hotel is an ideal destination for both tourists and business travellers visiting Rome.
Two meeting rooms, a bar and a restaurant, complete the services offered by this charming structure.

When I booked for 4 people I mistakenly thought that meant one suite with 2 bedrooms. I was shocked to find a small room with 4 beds side by side, one of which was actually a cot. We requested a change the next morning and were given 2 suites at an additional cost. Based on something Ihad read in a review, I thought at least it would be spacious and be like a loft setup. The staff re not helpful with suggestions as to available restaurants etc. We had to search the neighbourhood ourselves.

We stayed in a quadruple room, everything was excellent from features of hotel, room was beautiful and spacious, breakfast was fine, and good accesability except the way they welcome the guest and for not responding to our complain. The room airconditon was not functioning and wasn`t repaired till we checked out.We got a little discount after fighting for it.

The Air was broken in the room we booked in Hotel Galles. We were quickly moved to Prince Galles. The comment is based on Prince Galles. Excellent hotel, close to train/bus/subway terminal. Good breakfest (must go to Hotel Galles). Large, clean, quiet room with good air conditioning. Even have a in room safe. But, very small elevator for luggages.

The hotel was correct, but it had not anything special to remember and say I'd like to return right there. Besides, the breackfast had few things to choose for those that don't eat sweet things and like cold meat: only cheese and bolied ham.

We enjoyed a nice 4 day staying in Hotel Galles during August 2008. Although things did not start in the proper way cause we wewe moved to a near hotel (luckily, it was a better hotel) because air conditioning was not working, the hotel was nice in general, quiet and less than a kilometer from Termini station. Breakfast was reasonable, maybe juices and coffee would need an improvement, as well as the horrible and antique lift.

They operate a couple properties, and we got placed in a building other than the main one, which would've been nice to know ahead of time. However, it was equally nice and overall a pleasant stay.

I stayed here twice for this trip, each were single days as I was in transit to Tuscany by train from Rome. On each stay the same front desk staff spoke only Italian and almost nothing of other languages. Made it hard when I got a delayed message from my airline. The first single room I got was very small but adequate for one night stay, it was quiet and very close to the train station, good A/C. The second room I got was a larger room with king bed in a building next door with an awkward tiny elevator and stairwell combination to reach the room. Room was larger, impeccable bathroom, but while the A/C was apparently running it didn't cool the room much in July. Breakfast was always good for a decent morning start. Recommendation: only for 1-2 travelers in transit to other parts of Italy who want to be near train station in a decent area.

The hotel is quite good considering the price. The employees quite bad. Our female receptionist was completly unpolite. She tried to move us to a different hotel without any explication, even when i had confirmed the book a few hours before without any problem.

Waht I am going to talk about is the Hotel Galles! I am very unsatisfied with the attitude of the clerk in the lobby counter. I arrived the hotel at 14:00, and he told me I should wait arround one hour with a unpolite tone. I said, but the check-in time I saw on the webpage is "Check-in: the rooms are available at any time after noon." "What is the meaning of noon?!"he said. "Noon means 12:00." I answered. "After noon means from 12:00 till midnight!" he said. At that moment, I am so shock and unhappy with his reply and manner of speaking! This is just a part of out conversation, I don't want to talk about this too much. Pease check what problem it is?!

Like many others, we found that our reservation was inaccurate as Hotel Galles only had us registered for 2 rather than 4. This problem was quickly taken care of with 2 beautiful rooms for our 1st night and one sufficant room for our 2nd night. Location is EXCELLENT as only 1 1/2 blocks from subway system. There is a GREAT pizza shop around the corner from the subway ... sold by the kg. it was the BEST pizza we had during our 2 weeks in Italy! Hotel Galles offered a fabulous breakfast with many choices!

Although the enterance to access our room was via another outside doorway, adjacent to the main enterance this was not a problem. Overall we were pleased with our room and the service we received. The only complaint would be the very basic quality of the breakfast.

We were very satisfied with our experience at Galles; would especially mention the desk staff as being pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. The housekeeping was excellent. We also appreciated the size and quality of the towels, and the fact that they were heated! A bit more variety in the breakfast would have been welcome, since we stayed eight nights, but one was certainly able to choose items that were nutritious and filling. We would recommend the hotel to friends.

terrible hotel. on arrival we were told we could not check in for two hours whilst they got our room ready. despite this, when we did check in, the room had not been cleaned since the last persons stay. room stank of SEWAGE and we had to be moved. the staff were ignorant and unfriendly. the breakfast was disgusting. they had a few cereals, and a choice of chocolate cake, or chocolate chip cookies!!!! for breakfast! and they werent even nice! the lift in the hotel was frightening! i dont have a problem with lifts usually, but despite being on the 4th floor, would rather take the stairs!! it didnt feel safe at all! the location of the hotel was good for getting around places on the tube, as it is only about a 5 minute walk from termini station, so is also good for airport transfers. however the area is not good for finding places to eat at night. the worst part of the hotel is that the maid who came to clean our room, stole a necklace of mine, which was of sentimental value. we tried to tell the staff on reception that is was 'missing', although we knew it had been taken, but they couldnt understand english so we just had to forget it. i would not recommend this hotel to anyone. we had a great time in rome, but the hotel was not worth the money we paid. i would rather have paid abit more for somewhere half decent.

Initially the contact with staff was good. However, as we were preparing to go to our rooms we were then made aware that the hotel had 3 entrances and our rooms were on the opposite side of the building, 2 blocks away by foot. He asked a bellman to help us with our bags, (8 couples in total with 16 bags). It was POURING rain and he handed us all an umbrella and proceeded to march us around the building in TERRENTIAL, (I mean gully-washer), downpour. We, and all our luggage was SOAKED. We mentioned something to the woman working front desk later and she brushed us off. The next day, we had a shuttle scheduled to take us to the airport and the front desk WOULD NOT send them around to the other entrance to pick us up but made us come all the way around again with tons of luggage. POOR STAFF JUDGEMENT OR CONCERN was our experience. The facility and rooms were just fine - well worth the price.

I would have rated Galles higher, but they had some problem our first night and put us in a much smaller hotel a good half mile away. It wouldn't have been a big deal if they didn't claim it would only take a day to fix only to overhear them tell other customers the same thing the day we left. It felt pretty suspicious to our whole group. Other than that, when we actually stayed IN Galles, it was beautiful. We had a 2 story room with a huge bathroom. The A/C didn't work as well as we would have liked (we were there in July) and the heat from the shower tended to rise into the upstairs bathroom, but other than that there were no problems. The staff at the front desk alternated from not caring enough to listen to a question before walking off into a back room to someone kind enough to schedule a tour for us. The included breakfast was nicer than those we had at other Italian hotels, and we were grateful for the hotel allowing us to store our luggage there after checkout. I'd recommend it to travelers willing to spend a little more than some places to be within 3 blocks of Roma Termini and near hostels with young people. There were also a couple of decent restaurants and a super market nearby.

In past few years my family have travel many countries by ourselves .This is the first time I travel in Italy for 18 days which is a good trip . And I must say hotel 'Gelles' is the worst hotel in my trip . Even it’s located in a convenient place near Termini Station and looks elegant . But it too old so the air-condition is noisy and doesn’t work well (the room is always hot ) , and the window isn’t sealed well which make us seem sleeping on the street (the hotel is located by a heavy traffic street ), and the room is very crowded . At last , part of the counter (the older one) is not very tender who doesn’t care the guest’s feeling and opinion . So I am very regret to make 3 nights reservation and I don’t recommend this hotel to anyone . If the hotel won’t promote their equipment and attitude their price should reduce a half which is worthless .

As was mentioned in other reviews, we were taken to a hotel around the corner after checking into Hotel Galles, but it was okay as we expected that. We were a little worried at first because the hallways leading to our room were a little scary. The carpet was stained, there was a thick layer of dust on the railings and just generally didn't look very good. However, our room was beautiful with a large, marble bathroom, nice towels, an upstairs loft with plenty of storage space, flat screen t.v and a marble balcony with beautiful french doors and high celiings. We were very impressed. The hotel was not in the greatest part of town, but was close to train station making it extrememly convenient to get in and out of town. We walked to most of the sights we wanted to see, but there was also a metro stop only a couple of blocks away which was also convenient to use. Most of the staff was friendly and those who weren't, were not rude, just not overly helpful/friendly. Breakfast was pretty typical but good and lasted until 10am which is later than most places we stayed. We were pleased with what we got for the money we paid.

My travel agency made a mistake and my family and friends (10 of us!) had no place to stay in Rome upon arrival. I found Hotel Galles on Venere.com and was nervous about making a reservation the day before arrival. I used the ratings and price on this site to choose a hotel and it worked very well. The Hotel Galles is clean and quiet. The breakfast is excellent and they don't run out of food. It is located in a safe, nice, and convenient location in Rome. Considering the price this is a great buy. I would stay there again.

Generally, the hotel is acceptable for what you pay. The staff are helpful although they had let our room to other people when we arrived alet at night, but another was soon allocated. The rooms overlooking the front can be noisy at times and the room we stayed in was rather cramped. Breakfast was more than you would need and there are several good restaurants in the local area. Location to the Termini is good - only 5 minutes away and the area felt safe even late at night. Beware pickpockets on crowded buses - someone stood next to us was 'done' in the middle of the day. Would recommend this hotel.

Very easy to find. We had a great experience in Rome and this location was so convenient, a 8 minute walk from the train station where we could find good food on the run. Due to some water damage at the Hotel Galles, upon our arrival we were re-located to a nearby Hotel for the first of our 5 night stay. Galles is a lovely hotel for the price and location is fantastic, lots of lovely bars and eating places,it is very close to the terminal but it has one downfall, the guy with the grey hair on the desk. He must be one of the most unhelpful people we have ever come across. We arrived early after a very long journey and we knew we couldnt get into our rooms until 2pm so we asked if we could have tea, or something from the bar, this was declined, the bar is closed 24/7 so we just had to wait. The reason we picked Galles was because of were it was and the fact it had a bar as we did'nt want to be out walking in a strange area at night time. This man should retire to the grumpy old mens home and let Galles get on with it.

My boyfriend and I had no problems whilst staying at Galles Hotel, and we would defiantly recommend staying there, for 72 Euros a night including breakfast you can't really go wrong! Check in was strictly at 2pm, which for us wasn't a huge issue, although it would of been nice to be able check in a bit early as we had a 6.10am flight and were at the hotel by 11.30am which meant hanging around in the lounge area for just over 2 hours, this was ok as there are comfy sofas to snooze on, but this was not the hotels fault. We had no problems whilst staying there like I said, the room was what we needed a bed, which was comfy and a very modern bathroom, a combined shower and Jacuzzi bath, which was lovely after all the long days of walking we done around Rome! The bedroom decor wasn't the best but hey that isn't an issue really! Breakfast wasn't bad, a continental buffet, which consisted of bread rolls, butter, jam, cakes, cereal, and fruits though I wouldn't advice hot chocolate from the coffee machine! it was horrible watery powder stuff... The Hotel is very close to the Termini Station as this website says, it is literally a five minute walk, though there is the metro station (C. Pretrio) 2minutes from the hotel door. Which will take you to all the major sites. When checking out you have to be out by 12pm, this wasn't a problem either as the hotel has the facility to leave your luggage should you happen to have a late flight like we did! I just wanted to thank venere.com for making booking online so easy, this was the first time we have done so and we found it really helpful getting other peoples views on the hotel, so thanks!

Although they gave us a loft style "mini-duplex" room at the last minute we decided to book the room, their service and hospitality were both rude and inconsiderate. They acted like we were bothering them all the time. Our room was located outside of the hotel around the corner and they just expected for me to know this, and when I asked for help or directions the manager asked this young man to take me to the room but he complained about not wanting to do it. Very poor service indeed, but you get what you pay for, so I guess we shouldn't have expected all that much from this hotel. It's a good location, very close to the train station, though. The next time we go to Rome, we would choose another hotel with friendlier and better customer service.

Our quad room was readied early when we arrived in the early morning following an overnight train trip. That was welcome! However, our room was a bit funky: a missing air conditioner, a very low ceiling on the second floor of our room that contained two beds and the bathroom. The beds on the main floor were a sleeper sofa and a portable bed. But the location of the hotel is wonderful, with a metro entrance just a block away, and a great cheap pizza place a few doors down. It's only a few blocks from Termini Station. The hotel's free breakfast is just fine. Although our room was funky, it was very nice that they let us in hours early, and the lobby area was quite lovely. We would likely return here again. I just might ask to see the room before accepting it.

Do you want to spend some time in Rome? The right answer is Hotel Galles. Very very closed to the Termini Station but in a cleanliness area, very quite and safe. There are some nice restaurants in this area but you can get the bus or underground walking 2 minutes. And the price of the room is favolous...only 73 euros for a double room with full breakfast!!. The location and the soundproofing was excellent, but the ceiling in the bathroom was leaking and the room we got did not look like the photos on the web pages.

I spent 2 days stayng in double room "204". I've found it clean and roomy. 3 stars is the right quotation for the hotel with exception of breakfast that I've found really poor and worthy for an alchemist (magic dustes for everything tea, orange juice, milk, coffee).

A VERY CLEAN AND FRIENDLY HOTEL. WELL POSITIONED FOR SIGHTSEEING. CLOSE TO METRO. STAYED 3 TIMES AND RECOMMENDED TO FRIENDS

Very good Hotel. Good staff, speaking English fluently. They did have some problem remembering our room has 4 people, so everyday we had to ask for more towels to be delivered, which they were promptly. The room was very spacious, with the Bathroom and 2 single beds on the top floor, overlooking the bottom floor, with a folding out love seat. The location is not bad - close to a Metro station, and they have a taxi service to the Airport, for 50 Euro (4 people + 3 suitcases), which was just perfect. The A/C was working OK, but a little on the weak side, so keep it running (when you leave the room for the day, or evening). Breakfast was good. We had a nice stay, and we found a very good restaurant a walk away, called "Monti" - highly recommended, so we enjoyed our stay here, and so we'll probably stay here again if the chance arrives.

Generally, we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Galles. However, we had some difficulty obtaining a roll of toilet paper: not a good sign of hotel service.

For me, Hotel Galles was perfect, just what I needed for the purpose. There were other guests, arriving in the evening, and their reserved rooms were not available any more. However, the deskman reacted very well to the problems and I think, they were resolved.

we were put in a room that was all the way at the back and it seemed incredibly sketchy. The main hotel in the front was nice, but we weren't able to stay there. Defintely not what I had seen in teh pictures, and I also didn't anticipate such a long walk from teh stazione.

Fairly low price hotel but service reflects this pricing as well. Hardly any facilities besides a room, no place to get coffee or have a drink in the hotel itself. It did suit my purposes well. Regards, R. Thaens

Nice room with excelent bathroom with bubble pool. Easy location to find from railway station. Good value for money compared to other hotels in Rome.

We had a great stay. The room was a little small, but therefore it had a spacious bathroom and an anteroom. The relationship between price and quality is excellent.

The Hotel is even closer to the railway station (and the center of town) than it appears on map and it's really conveniently located. We reserved by mistake a double room but we really intended to reserve a twin beds room: since there were none available (it was a holiday weekend) the hotel offered us at no extra charge a very nice suite. Everyone was kind and efficient. I would really recommend this hotel; price/quality ratio is excellent. I didnt't expect much from an Internet reservation but it was a very nice surprise: this is the very first time we use Venere and I think I will use it again.

Even allowing for the short walk along the street to the annex, the accommodation was good value. The lift to the upper floors was a touch scary! The desk clerk was very helpful especially as he was under pressure from some impatient clients ( not us !). Breakfasts excellent. Site convenient for Metro, bus and Termini. We will return

The location was great. Near everything we wanted to do in Rome. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone. When we go back to Rome, this would be a definite place to stay. The only detractor was that there was not a stairway to/from the breakfast area, and the elevator is quite slow and small.
