The Hotel Galatea was a great place to stay. Very friendly and professional staff. The one problem is that they dont do laundry. So if you are there for an extended stay, you have to go to a coin laundry.

Hotel is very small and has only like 15 rooms. Location is very good - short walking distance to Termini on one hand and to many of the most important Roman sights on the other. First impression might be misleading as you have to enter the hotel via public corridor and staircase (of course lift also availiable). However, as you enter the hotel (3rd floor) your immpression should gradually change. Some good restaurants in the area. Breakfast very basic but sufficient and good coffee. We had quite spacious room with all necessary equipment. Bathroom large and clean. Everything worked fine.

If you are looking for a modestly priced hotel, this is an excellent choice – cost to us was 300 euros for four nights stay. The entrance is a little off putting as there is buzzer entry only which lets you into a pretty gloomy courtyard shared with other businesses/residents – the hotel itself occupies the third floor of the building. There is a lift, albeit a little ancient. Reception is manned 24 hours, and no problem getting in. Once on the third floor you will find a small, but obviously recently refurbished hotel. Very helpful and welcoming staff. The room was small, but we could not expect any more for the price – décor and fittings all very modern. No in room tea/coffee making facilities. The window to our room faced into the internal courtyard which let limited natural light in, but I do not know if this is the same for all rooms. Did make it very quiet though. Dining room small but very adequate, and a decent continental breakfast provided. The hotel is on a small, quiet, and safe side street just off Via Nazionale, which is a smart main road with lots of shops and buses. There is a Metro station at the top of Via Nazionale, and the hotel is about 20 minutes brisk walk to Termini bus station (where the buses from Ciampino airport head into). For the able bodied, most of the tourist attractions that you would want to visit are in walking distance of the hotel – could also walk to some of the more distant attractions such as the Vatican, but easier to spend a Euro and jump on the Metro.

I recommend the taxi service offered by the hotel at 55 euros. This was very smooth despite the flight delay and the cab driver was a great chap. The reception could have been warmer but was acceptable overall. The rooms were adequate but most imprtantly were clean. The bathroom was clean and of a very good standard. Breakfast was very good with a decent choice and service. Being on the Via Nationale, Major sites were within walking distance and we didn't have to take any bus tours andas a result saved a lot of money. The information centre on Via Nationale was very helpful in booking the tickets fro the Vatican tour.

This was my third time in Rome, and Hotel Galatea is by far the best hotel I have stayed in so far. Do not let the entrance fool you, on a quiet street, the hotel is on the 3rd floor of a building in a courtyard shared with 3-4 other buildings. However, once entered, whole image changes. The rooms are spacious and spotless clean. Carpeting is new, bathroom is comfortable. Breakfast was very good by italian standards. The staff was very kind. Although they dont sport a luggage room, they took our bags behind the reception desk for our final day in the city. The location is optimum, very well connected with bus and metro. Whether you are traveling by air or by train, I would recommend this hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

Very convenient location (next to Via Nazionale, 15 minutes from the Altare della Patria and Fori Imperiali). Lots of dining and shopping opportunities in the area. Clean room, although on the smallish side; great bathroom. No public spaces though, with the exception of the breakfast hall that was basically a corridor. Breakfast itself was quite poor, but it served its purpose and was included in the already good deal we got for the room.

It was expensive, 170 euro for a double room, but the location was excelent and the room and bathroom were extremely clean and everything was very new and modern. Bad things were that the building is very old, and so was the elevator, but fitted all the suitcases. The bed was very, very, very hard, I had to put two blanquets over it to be able to sleep. The breakfast was weak, but it did not bothered me at all.

Being Rome, relationship between price and room size and location is less favourable for the tourist, so compared to other cities and hotels this hotel seems expensive for the room size - but I guess thats what you get in the capital! Location was excellent, just right for walking all over the city as well as shopping and eating.

EXCELLENT HOTEL. The staff was very helpful, and let us check in early. Our room was small but perfect. The bathroom was very spacious and easily fit 2 people at once. The location is amazing, close to everything including the Terminal station. We ate at a great Italian restaurant just next door. At night the big door to the courtyard may be locked, just use the buzzer to the left and the Hotel clerk will let buzz you in. Hotel Galatea is a great stay and I highly recommend it.

Galatea is a small hotel located downtown Rome. Rooms are very clean and very, very quiet, though, understandably, a little bit small. There is no restaurant, so breakfasts are simple. If you want to come to Rome for some sightseeing, staying in the hotel is the right decision.

Entrance is through the arch and courtyard of a big and rather gloomy nineteenth-century building (once rather grand), leading to a lift which could sometimes be temperamental. The great wooden door on the street sometimes locked itself, and we were not given a key: in this case look for the intercomm button a yard or so to the left: the voice at the other end (available all night, we gathered)will open it for you. The hotel, which occupies one of the higher floors of the building, is bright and clean. Staff seemed cool and formal at first but proved to be efficient and friendly. Looking after our bags before departure, reception registered them to avoid mistakes. The Galatea is about 15-20 minutes walk from the main railway station, 10-15 minutes from the nearest Metro station (Cavour).

A perfect little boutique hotel tucked away in an ideal location for walking to most if not all of the "must-see" sights of Rome. It was a 10 minute walk from the Termini train station to this hotel. A light but satisfying breakfast included in your stay. Extremely professional and helpful staff to arrange anything including our cab back to the airport at the end of our 3 night stay.

Fantastic location near the up and coming suburb Monti and also close to Via Nationale shopping street and Termini. Our recent 2 week trip through Italy meant we would needed a hotel that was clean, comfortable and near transportation (train station) since we would be going to multiple cities for only 2-3 days each. Hotel Galatea was a perfect match for our stay in Rome. It was only a 10 minute walk with luggage from the train station, yet far enough away to not be in the typically less savory environment around the station. The hotel also represented a good value for Rome. The location was an $8-10 taxi ride from the Vatican (which is worth the ride unless you are up for a 50 minute walk) and 20 minutes walk from the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and even closer to the Roman Forum. Hotel staff was very friendly and rooms were perfect for our short stay. The bathrooms were by far the largest we had during our 5 city tour. I would definately be happy to stay at the Galatea again.

The hotel itself is fine despite the rather grotty entrance courtyard and idiosyncratic lift. Staff were welcoming and efficient. My room was clean and comfortable although not large. The breakfast was quite good for Italy, although the breakfast area is cramped in a corridor. Some fair value restaurants in the area and near the bus route 64 for the central sights. A 15 minute walk from the station. A little overpriced perhaps, but it is Rome.

The Galatea was wonderfully located for our tour of Rome. We enjoy walking, and felt comfortable walking from the hotel to most of the sites. We took the metro to the Vatican and spent the afternoon working our way back to the hotel on foot, enjoying the neighborhods. There is shopping and many resaurants all within a block or two of the hotel. The staff was friendly and generally helpful. Breakfast was good but not a large selection you could find in other places. The rooms were simple, clean, plenty of space and comfortable. Our rooms(a double and a triple) had typical euro beds, very nice baths and beautiful shutters that opened out onto a pleasant street below. Don't be put off by the entrance from the street. You enter thru large doors into a courtyard/driveway. Then procede around to stairs that you can walk up, or take a tiny elevator to the third floor. When you see the glass door and enter the lobby you will be relieved that you have made a good choice! Especially for the price.

We had a nice time in Hotel Galatea Rome. The room and bathroom are spacious, clean and confortable. Front desk staff is kind and very helpfull . For us, it was quite enough for the price we paid. There are only two things to consider. The hotel is located on the 3rd. floor of a very old building with a dirty courtyard and old elevator, so the first impression is not good. Once you get to the 3rd. floor everything is new and prety. The other thing is the breakfast which is very poor. There is only a coffe/capuccino machine, some bread, cream cheese, butter and juice. Well, for us it wasn't a big deal, so we enjoyed our honeymoon in Rome.

Very friendly staff discussing the best places to visit and making notes on a free map, even lending us an umbrella. Lovely large room with good sized en-suite overlooking the road. the room lacked accessories such as pictures but had a free electronic safe in the room and reasonable storage space. The hotel is situated on the 4th floor of a typical Italian apartment block with lift. The block had a run down appearance outside but very pleasant inside.. the access arrangement seems strange and the entrance at ground level was not as welcoming as the photo, but once you were up at reception the building decor and hotel was very good. The included breakfast was a good cold buffet with cakes, ham and cheese, coffee, etc. Located a good 15min walk from the main train station it was ideal to visit the Colleseum and Trevi fountain. Value for money seemed good and we would likely stay there again. For food I recommend the trattoria just down the road from from Pasta love as they do a 10 Euro set lunch or better still the 18 Euro menu, very good value for money, even the local businessmen use it!

Ask for a room away from reception as this can be noisy from 06:30 onwards! The hotel was easy to find - a ten-minute walk from Termini station, but you do need to cross some very busy roads which can be rather daunting - especially if you're carrying suitcases. The hotel provides good, clean accommodation and a decent breakfast. The staff are very helpful - they quickly supplied extra pillows when requested and went out of their way to give us a breakfast when we had to leave early for our flight home. The rooms are reasonably spacious and very clean, and the bath is a great selling point. The location of the hotel could hardly be bettered - ten minutes walk from Termini station, from the Spanish Steps and the Colosseum and Forum. A frequent bus service runs down the Via Nazionale to St. Peter's at one end and Termini at the other. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby. All in all a hotel I can highly recommend - and not too expensive either!

Hotel gave excellent directions - we walked from the train station and found it without problem. It is in within reasonable walking distance from the station as well while carrying a suitcase - nice to save on taxi fare! The entrance is not as bright as pictured on this site, but in a nice safe easily accessible area. We loved that it was on the 4th floor of this building - it made for a super quiet stay in Rome! We haven't ever experienced a quieter stay in Rome and a good night sleep is so important since there is so much to do! The double room we stayed in had plenty of room and a beautiful new bathroom with tub! Nice to soak in after a long day on your feet! Breakfast was very good - we hated missing it on the day we left, but we had to leave before breakfast started to get to the airport on time. Staff was very helpful in advising us how to take train to airport and advice on local restaurants. We reluctantly ate the first night at a very nearby restaurant they suggested called "Pasta Love" (since it isn't Italian sounding), but the food was wonderful and we were glad we did! They would have advised us about sites to see as well, but we had plans to spend our only full day outside of Rome in Ostia Antica since we have been to Rome twice before. The staff went over directions with us to take the subway to another train station that took us to Ostia. We highly recommend a day trip to Ostia if you can spare the time - it is nice to get out of Rome if you are there for several days in a row and also to experience something many people miss! (see our attached pics) Be prepared for extremely crowded subways & trains though! We will stay at this hotel when we return to Rome! It seemed a great value to us for Rome, especially after being in Venice which is so much more expensive. Enjoy!

This was my first visit to Rome, travelling solo and I was delighted that I chose this hotel because the pros well-outweighed the cons. The pros - good location for access to all types of eating, transport and sightseeing, good price for its modernity & cleanliness and reasonably quiet. The cons (and how to get round them); beds are small but as room rates are reasonable, I booked myself a double room; my room was rather dark but it was winter and opening the shutters fully helped a bit; breakfast offered good range of pastries etc and quality jams - avoid the orange drink if you prefer juice but enjoy the excellent coffee (if my Italian had been better, I would have chatted up the waitress for another); pity about lack of mini-bar but not a problem in winter; hotel is well sign-posted from Via Genova but once in the courtyard, you feel abandoned by the fact that entrance and lift are not immediately in view. The map that the hotel offered was very comprehensive for street names but take a magnifying glass to read it. As a solo traveller, I usually prefer an apartment but this hotel worked really well for me and I would also happily return with a mate.

Everything is sparkling new at Hotel Galatea (recent refurbishment I guess), and once you have mastered the workings of the lift, the location is great. Should you walk, bus or train things are not very far away. Could have stayed for days/weeks but the Euro killed me.

The location was central. I walked from the train station to the hotel in about 12 min. There are a lot of shops around. You could also walk to colossem and trevi fountain and other attractions. As long as you get used to the aggressive drivers, Rome is a nice place to be explored by feet. The single room is tiny, so is the elevator. You won't spend too much time in the room anyway. There is only shower in the bathroom, but everything inside is new and clean. That's the most important thing for me. Breakfast is OK and the tables look exactly the same as shown in the photo. Staff were nice. Only one guy gave me wrong information about Vatican museum's opening hour which caused delay of my travelling plan, but nothing major.

It relates really to photographs - but not in relation to the actual hotel but the photograph that showed the courtyard entrance. It's a small thing really - but what was on the site and what was actually there bore little resemblance. It didn't in anyway spoil my stay - in fact I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone I knew who was going to Rome - it was just a bit of a surprise.

The hotel was chosen for its location, it is within easy walking distance of all of the major sites, the train station (with luggage) and the metro is close by. There were plenty of nice little places to enjoy a nice meal and a glass of wine, that were discovered just wandering around the general area of the hotel. The hotel is on the 4 floor, there is a small elevator, if needed. The hotel staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Great hotel, just off one of the main streets in Rome and close to termini and metro stop. Hotel is nice and quiet and only recently done up inside so very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again. We had no problems from start to finish in our two night stay here

We stayed at the Galatea for one night after a 3 week stay in Italy. It was a gem compared to some of the other hotels we stayed in. Great location 50m from the main shopping street and near train station. Staff were very helpful and friendly and rooms small but modern in a wonderful old character building. Would definitely return to Galatea.

The hotel is within walking distance of the main railway station (with suitcases) and is just 1 min walk from via Nazionale which has frequent bus services into Piazza Venezia which is a central point for all sightseeing. For the more energetic all the sights are within walking distance (20-30mins). The staff at the Hotel were friendly and there was always someone who spoke English and we were always made to feel welcome. The restaurant by the hotel, New Mary Meeting, is excellent value and a nice place to eat. Restaurant Nerone, close to the Collesseum on Via Terme di Tito is also great value and very friendly. Ristorante Otello near the Spanish Steps was less friendly and we were treated as a nuisance, rather than valued paying guests. If returning to Rome we would gladly use the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive and well located place to stay.

The choice of hotels in Rome seems to be split between cheap(ish), but in the seedy area around Termini station; or expensive and in the tourist centre. We tried to find something in between, and the Galatea was a satisfactory solution. The location of the hotel is very good; near enough Termini for arrivals, but far enough to avoid the seediness; and a 10-15 minute walk to the nearest parts of the historic centre (Colosseum, Trevi fountain, Forum). The hotel is a little odd - it occupies the 4th floor of a large building, which means finding it, and getting in are somewhat problematic. It also gives a strange first impression! However, the hotel and rooms were all very nice, tidy and functional. The walls are not the thickest, and the breakfast was not the best but generally the hotel was very good. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to people with children, or anyone wanting a hotel with lots of facilities. However, if you want a safe, comfortable and convenient base to explore Rome from, then this is a good choice.

This hotel was perfect for our 5 night stay in Rome. It was a short walk from Termini and even closer to Repubblica metro stop. We found it very easy to find. It's a nice small and quiet hotel, with helpful staff who recommended restaurants and trips. The room was a fine size for 2 of us and the bathroom was spotlessly clean - the maid cleaned the room and changed towels every day. The breakfast room is small but we found the continental breakfast very good; plenty of fresh croissants and preserves, a selection of cereals, fruit juice, coffee and fruit. We were able to walk to many of the sites we wanted to visit as the hotel is so central. Overall we were very impressed with the standard and location for such a reasonable price. I would definitley recommend to anyone visiting Rome.

The property was initially a little difficult to find and, once located, did not appear very inviting, the entrance being located in what appeared to be a dingy alleyway. However, once up onto the floor where the hotel was housed, the reception area was very nice, and Aramis, the gentleman who checked me in, was charming and helpful. I had a single room, which was quite small, but tastefully furnished. The bathroom was clean and modern, and had a very spacious shower recess, one of the largest I have had in Europe. The air-conditioning worked well, which was a blessing, as it was very hot in Rome. The hotel was well located, being 10 minutes walk to the Colosseum and the Forum, and only a little more to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. There were quite a few restaurants and bars nearby, and plenty of shopping in the adjacent main street. My biggest complaint would be the bed. I had a very small mattress which had been placed on a base designed for a full sized single. The mattress was much too narrow to allow for a comfortable nights sleep. The other is that there are no internet facilities of any kind for guests. Breakfast was good, and plentiful.

Great location for visiting, very easy to access places. Nice restaurants near by and the hotel room was clean and modern facilities. The access to the hotel is little rustic but it really isn't a problem when you get to see the good hotel facility, we liked the idea of getting on the small lift and use stairs on the way out for a day. Definitely recommend the hotel to anyone who is looking for value for money luxury stay.

We really enjoyed this hotel, the staff were really friendly and helpful, and the location was excellent. We walked to the Colloseum, Roman Forum, Palatine, Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain. All within 15mins walk. If you buy a map of Rome when you arrive it is easy to find. The breakfast was good with Croissants, Bread, Cereals, Coffee, and fruit juice. We would definitely stay there again.

Handily situated between railway station and main sights (about 15 min walk to both station and Trevi Fountain). In a quiet side street and our room was peaceful and cool, with excellent bathroom. Close to shops, with a good restaurant downstairs and internet point close by. The ground floor entrance courtyard was a bit scruffier than the photograph indicated but once inside, it was excellent. We would definitely stay again.

Galatea Hotel is really a great place to stay in Rome. It is located in a resudential building and occupies part of the floor. It is very modern, has excellent air conditioning with temperature control, spacious and cozy bathroom. The only negative part of the hotel was the bed, it's beyond hard. Everything else was great.

The hotel is in a great location, about 10 minute walk from Termini station (go straight out of the station toward Piazza della Republica, then left down Via Nazionale). The metro is at Piazza della Republica, and bus stops are all along Via Nazionale. There is a nice restaurant next door, an internet cafe across the street, and a tourist center across Via Nazionale. The bed in our room was a little hard, but the room itself was nice, even spacious relative to other rooms I've seen in Europe. The bathroom was gorgeous, and I loved the huge shower head. The breakfast was not huge (no eggs or meats), but there was plenty of the cereals, breads, yogurt, etc. We met travelers from other parts of Europe and the US and even a honeymoon couple from Australia. All of them seemed to be enjoying the Galatea. The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful, and the woman who maintained the breakfast buffet was also very nice. As another posted wrote, don't be worried by the courtyard you walk through to take the elevator to the 3rd floor where the hotel is. The courtyard actually made me feel like we were in a local neighborhood. I think we got very good value for the money we spent. When I was searching for a hotel in Rome, most hotels were more expensive than Hotel Galatea. We would definitely return to the Hotel Galatea.

As reported by other travelers, the entrance is hard to find if you don't know, and looks very run down. Breakfast is spartan. Location is good, but you need to take public transportation (very easy) to some areas, such as the Vatican or even the Spanish Steps. The Colosseum and Foro Imperiali are within walking distance.

This was our first visit to Rome and so we weren't sure where the best location for seeing all the sights would be. We were really pleased that we chose Hotel Galatea, it was walking distance to all the main attractions, and close to Metro and bus links. Despite being near a main road the hotel itself is tucked away and very quiet. It has clearly been recently refurbished and is contemporary and clean. I would definitly recommend this hotel to anyone and will stay here agin if I return to Rome.

The stay at the Hotel Galatea was excellent. The location is very central, but the hotel is in a smaller street, so there wasn't much noise. I found the room and bathroom to be spacious and the staff was very nice (and always gave me kudos for speaking my choppy Italian). Even the restaurant next door (The New Mary Meeting) has fabulous food and the gelateria on the other side of the hotel entrance was great. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. My boyfriend and I bought a few DVDs in Rome that were not compatible with our American DVD player, so we left the movies with the front desk. I hope they enjoyed them, as much as we enjoyed our stay.

This charming hotel was a superb way to visit Rome. The staff was extraordinarily helpful, well versed in English, and very kind and welcoming. The location of Galatea was excellent. Only 10 minutes from Termini, the Trevi fountain, and the Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II. In addition, the hotel is right next to the famous Via Nazionale, which has a wealth of excellent restaurants and small shops. The hotel does not have an internet connection, but there was an internet/phone/fax place right outside the door. The rooms were very nice, clean, and well maintained. A bit noisy when people were in the hallways, but otherwise quiet. If you go to Galatea, remember that it is on the 3rd floor (4th if you count ground level) and you have to manually close the elevator doors. I would definitely come back to this hotel again and highly recommend it to anyone looking to see the sights of Rome.

Our taxi was not able to park in front of the hotel because the street was small and full of parked cars but we only had to walk a very short distance. The entrance to the hotel was dismal. The elevator to the hotel was small but we managed to get ourselves and luggage into it. What a surprise to enter the lobby and find a very attractive setting. The hotel clerk was very helpful and spoke English fluently. Our double room was a good size, attractive and the bathroom was spacious. The breakfast offered contained a variety of food and the woman in charge was efficent and pleasant. It is a pleasant hotel and a good value.

The online pictures did not do the hotel justice - it was remolded only 6 months ago (late 2006) and it is beautiful. The hotel itself is on the 3rd floor of a building, so there are only 15 or so rooms, but the accomidations were terrific. We would absolutely go back.

Excellent Hotel!! At a glance, the entrance of the old building where the hotel is located is a little scared (too old), including the elevator. However after you reach the 3rd floor by elevator (which we called the "time machine") is like a travel from the past to the future. The hotel is brand new, very clean, wonderfull rooms, nice service (well spoken english). It is very near to several Rome spots. In summary, it is a high class hotel! Excellent choice!! I trully recommend it!

This hotel was located just off the via Nationale and so was central to all of Rome's sites, however not really close to any (about 10 minutes to to get to the Trevi Fountain or Forum). As a family of three travelling we had a very spacious room as we were given the room for the family of four. The rooms were very clean as were the communal rooms of the hotel and the staff friendly and efficient. Noise could be heard from outside however to be honest not a real problem as we visited in April and did not want to sleep with the windows open. The hotel was safe and secure and had a safe in every room. The hotel looked very new and as such finished to a high standard. The hotel was on the third floor and there was a small lift to help, at the end of a long day walking in Rome, I can tell you it was very welcome. There are a few restaurants surrounding the hotel and we would certainly recommend Mr Chow's a great chinese restauant. The photographs shown on the website are a true likeness to the hotel. We would recommend this hotel.

Though we had some difficulties navigating our way to the actual entrance of the hotel 3 floors up the building in the court yard when we first arrived, the hotel was very clean, modern and generally very pleasant. We didn't realise how close the hotel actually was to Termini station, it actually ended up being very useful for hopping on the tube from Reppublica or Termini station to get on the coach (recommended at 12EUR) or underground to go to the Vatican. The staff were very helpful and overall definitely surpassed our expectations. I really liked the little cafe opposite Adrian Columns which was set out like a book shop with nice comfy couches and good food. Would definitely recommend! Rome is an amazing place- so much to see of it we walked so much. Given this, the hotel was in an excellent place, close to Piazza De Venezia, the Presidential Residence and an easy half hour stroll from Trastevere and the Aventine Hills which was also great. The Coloseum is also 10 min walk away, and when you go there, you MUST go to the Palatino Hills, which appparently only 5% of tourists go to. Heaven knows why, because me and my friend both agreed that was the best thing in Rome!

The Coliseum, Trevi fountain and Pantheon are within easy walking distance, the Vatican area about an hour away on foot. Access to the Termini station was excellent, ten minutes walk and from there, a coach journey, about an hour to the airport. We have already recommended the hotel to friends who are considering a Rome holiday in the not too distant future.
