Very comfortable hotel in a very pleasant street near Spanish Steps but away from the immediate bustle. Staff friendly. Good breakfast. Would have rated hotel very highly except hotel overbooked on our first of 4 nights and we were consigned to an inadequate undersized room. We had a very comfortable room for the rest of our stay.

The staff at hotel forte is extremely friendly and helpful! The hotel is extremely close to the spanish steps, the metro and high end shopping. The only problem we had was that the ceiling on the lower floor of the 2 floor hotel room (which is where the bathroom was) was only maybe 6'3'' high, so my boyfriend could not stand in the shower. At 5'8'' i was extremely close to hitting the ceiling myself. If you are thinking of booking a room here ask for one that is farther away from the reception....because you can here people checking in and out early in the morning. The breakfast was sufficient with bread, ham, cheese, croissants, juice, yogurt etc..your typical continental breakfast. We would definitely stay at hotel forte because of the helpful staff, clean rooms, and the central location to all the roman sites.

We loved our stay at hotel Forte. Location was perfect, and although the room was small, bathroom was spacious and hotel staff couldn't do enough to help us out. Friendly, welcoming and a great location. Just what we needed.

Staying in Rome is expensive in general and the hospitality industry is not the best italians can do (at least I was advised so). I found Hotel Forte on the net and it was all we wanted. My sister, my mum and I wanted a clean, decent place, close to the sites and well connected to public transport. Staff were vey kind and helpful, the breakfast was good and the premises were clean and confortable. This hotel has the best location in the city, 3 minutes away from Piazza Spagna, 5 min. from Piazza del Popolo, walking distance to Fontana de Trevi,...many bus lines pass near the hotel and the metro too. The hotel is located in the middle of a great shopping area that ranges from the expensive Chanel to the more reasonable Mango. I do recommend this hotel, I would stay there again.

Hotel Forte staff were very pleasant and efficient. Room was a little small but not a problem as we did not go to Rome to spend a lot of time in a hotel room. My daughter (11) loved it all and in particular, the old-fashioned lift and shutters. Via Margutta is a great location, with good restaurants - Osteria Margutta and Il Margutta Vegetarian - both excellent.

Small, but friendly. Great location. Easy walking distance to many landmarks, very close to shopping e.g. Via Condotti. Fabulous vegetarian restaurant - Il Margutta Ristorarte - just up the road.

Beautiful location, in the very heart of Rome. Very easy access from the airport. Nice places to eat and have a coffee in the neighbourhood. Hotel staff very friendly and ready to help with advises. Rooms are quite small, but very clean and comfy. Some baths are smelling because of the old sewage system, but hey, we are in the old center of Rome..Shopping street is (too) near with lots of interesting shops. Breakfast is THE most filling you could get in Italy. All in all, beautiful historical hotel, beautifully set on the romantic via Margutta. Highly recommended.

I stayed in the Forte in 2003 and the room then was nicer; brighter and roomier. This time the room was a bit poky though clean and tidy and comfortable. Breakfast continental nice. Staff friendly and helpful and location is excellent, 2 mins walk to the metro Spagna

My friend and I travel to Rome regularly and stay at different hotels, we would definately stay at the Forte again, the location was perfect and the service excellent, the only criticism was the size of the room, we had a twin room which had very little space but we enjoyed our stay and the staff were friendly and helpful.

In September 2008 the building was undergoing some renovation work therefore come construction noise was unavoidable. The hotel building is old but quaint and situated in a quiet road with some designer type shops but is very close to the Spanish Steps. Our room was small but adequate and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was typically continental with the addition of cold meat and hard boiled warm eggs. We walked to most sites - if you are 65+ take your passport as the Colosseum/Palatino/Roman Forum combined ticket is free.Get to the Vatican early as the queues build up by mid-morning. We went by Metro (1 Euro) and arrived by 8.30am. I would recommend Hotel Forte for its central position if you intend to use the room and hotel just as a base but it was an enjoyable stay at a reasonable price.

I requested a room with a view, and when I arrived the building was under construction, and my room was right next to the lift. The room was so small and very loud with the construction going on in the building and it wasn't even cleaned!!!! the view was of the street, and was very loud. building was charming, but the room was far less superior than I thought.

The hotel is situated on the first floor and the entrance downstairs looks awful. Our room was extremely small, we could only open one suitcase at a time. Only one chair so one of us had to sit on the bed. Wifi for free, worked very well. Bathroom ok. Breakfast very, very poor. Perfect location.

The hotel caters to the budgt conscious minded person who is looking for a convienent location. We were pleasently suprised as they put us in a flat a few blocks from the hotel which was located on a busy street full of great restauants and bars. the falt was spacious and the A/C worked terrfic. The only issue was walking up and down the stairs with our luggage. I also want to commnet that the hotels front desk manager - Emanuel - was extremely knowledable about the cityh and offered us valuable advice on where to ea and things to do.

we travelled with two childen & required 1 room 4 persons we were booked to stay in apartement near the hotel put due to plumbing problems this was not available and stayed in main hotel. i suspect a three person room was adjusted for us as is was very small with little space for storage(we had lots of luggage as we were touring) but for a short stay was fine.Location was ideal and management and staff were perfect which more than made up for shortage of space. I have told all my friends about hotel forte and would stay again when in rome ,thank you to all the staff.Wonderful value.

Hotel staff were very polite and welcoming but some, had difficulties understanding other languages, and one would not have expected it in view of the position they held in the hotel. However, that is not to detract from their eagerness to assist and in their warm welcome. The rooms would be big enough for one, but are somewhat cramped for two adults staying in the same room. Other noisy occupants were a bit of a problem during our stay.

Nice Hotel and top location. Spanish steps are 5 min from your bed. here is also the underground that brings you for 1 Euro to the Vatikan or Central station (3-4 stops). Rooms are small but have a nice big bathroom. the staff is good and speaks english pretty good. The best are all the nice! shopps and restaurants. only 10 minutes walk away. Remember to bring your Nike Air shoes. you'll walk a lot in Rome!!! With all the many things to see, make sure to check out Tastevere on the other side of the Tiber river for an aimless stroll. And don't forget to eat at Alfredo's (also 10 minutes walk from Hotel Forte)- the emperor of the fettuccini. :-)

The place was exactly as represented on the website. The location was excellent as we walked, although a lot, through the entire old part of the city including the colloso areas, Vatican City. Easy access to the Metro, literally a half block. The Spanish steps were an excellent landmark for a bench mark for your walks. Couldn't ask for much more than just a bit more time, to be there. Our stay at at the Hotel Forte was excellent, it could not be faulted, staff were lovely, the location to the Spanish Steps was excellent. The breakfast was lovely chocolate and lemon pastries, boiled eggs, ham and cheese, cereals and yoghurt, delicious tea and coffee. The room was quite spacious and very quiet, we faced onto a courtyard at the back of the hotel. It was a cute quaint building with a wrought iron spiral staircase and elevator. The Hotel made our trip to Rome extra special I just wish we could have stayed longer. Will certainly stay again.

We stayed in the apartment which would be a great option for a family as there were 2 single beds and a double. The apartment felt like we had our own apartment in Rome as it was separate from the hotel itself. The hotel (and the apartment) could not have a better location for seeing the sights of Rome.

I had a very enjoyable stay at The Hotel Forte. The size of the room was my only concern. It was clean and comfortable but for the price I found it a bit small and this particular room had no view in fact I was reluctant to keep my window open during the night since it opened out onto a catwalk shared by other rooms. This aside it was a great place to be, very convenient and the staff were extremely kind, cheerful and very helpful. Great breakfasts. I looked into other rooms on my way out and there were others that were larger and better located. I would recommend this hotel to others just not that particular small room.

Booked an apartment via Venere site at the Hotel Forte. As we were a family of 4 persons, we wanted an sizeable apartment, seperate bedrooms, good facilites comparable to a 3 star hotel. Web pages looked impressive, quality looked assuered. How wrong we were !! It was a 1 room with 1 bed and two ''put-up'' beds, garden furniture as chairs, no room to move around, poorly lit,not enough hot water, and when not being used by mis-guided travellers it was used by the hotel staff (for 1 person). We arrived at 10pm in the evening by 8 o'clock the next morning we had moved out, although we had booked for longer. We would never recommend this apartment to anyone at the price charged or quality offered.1 star would be too generous. The Hotel may be fine, aviod the apartment at all costs!

Loved the area that the hotel was in. Our biggest complaint was the noise. We were in a room, right accross from the breakfast room and right behind the front desk, so it could be noisy and also they were doing some work on the hotel, waking us up one morning. Also, the 'shower' wasn't mounted to the wall, it was hand held only

Forte is the worst hotel I stayed in during my recent trip to Italy at the end of August. The rooms and service were absolutely horrible! For the price, it certainly is not worth it. The bathrooms are very tiny, and the service is really bad. Except for one woman at the front desk, both of the men we encountered working during our 4 day stay there were less than helpful. In addition, the walls are paper thin, and we could hear conversations in the other rooms. The only good thing about the Forte is the location, but other than that, it really isn't worth it.

We were very pleased with our stay at the Hotel Forte. The rooms were very clean; staff were welcoming and accommodating, both before and during our visit. The breakfast buffet was very good, offering plenty of choice. The room, while very comfortable, was on the small side. The area was very central, but nonetheless very quiet, on a very picturesque side street. The location was perfect for exploring Rome on foot; 5 minutes to the Spanish Steps and a 30 minutes walk (maximum) to the Vatican Museums, to the Colesseum and to Piazza Navona and beyond. We also took advantage of their limo service from the airport to the hotel which was convenient.

we requested a room to sleep 4ppl, and the hotel booked us in an apartment that was 2 blocks from the hotel...ok, no problem. BUT, when we checked in, we were given a map to get to the apartment, a ring with 6 keys, and 3 of them had to be used to get into different parts of the building housing the apartment, and no one escorted us to make sure we could find it and get in. when we finally found the building, there was no lift, so we had to drag our large bags up 3 flights of stairs and struggle with the keys to figure out the doors. when we got in we had a phone that didn't connect us to the hotel (we found out later it was to let people into the building) and it took us an hour to figure out how to turn the air conditioner on. the next day, after a LONG journey around rome, we got back and there had been no housekeeping services done to the room and no fresh towels. when we walked the three blocks to the actual hotel, they told us that housekeeping in the apartment was every other day. when we returned the next day to the same thing, and walked the three blocks to question the hotel...we were told that housekeeping services were only after we checked out, and we were given additional towels. the only thing that was mentioned whan i made the reservation was that the apartment was a few blocks from the hotel. they never disclosed that there was no lift, no housekeeping etc...and we were very unhappy with the responsiveness to our frustrations. we were staying there for 4 nights and in the end, they reduced our rate by 80 euros total, not even one full nights stay. i work for the intercontinental hotel chain, and have been in the hotel business for 15 years, and this is a hotel i would not recommend to my worst customer.

We traveled as two mature adults with our college age daughters. The first night we were in two rooms. They were very small but clean, great air conditioning and a perfect location. The next two nights we moved to the annex apartment that slept four. It was very basic but a good deal considering the very fashionable, upscale shopping and restaurnts. There was no lift to the third floor of our annex room so carrying the luggage with no help from the staff was a challenge. The staff seemed unfamiliar with the annex so getting the air conditioning to work and the tv meanst several calls since there was no one availble to assist us in our move. There was a good cost savings so it was worth it. We ate breakfast in the main hotel daily which was good. The staff was very helpful with direction but not so helpful with getting set up in the annex.

The location was excellant and the staff very helpful. The room was, to say the least, small with very little room to walk or move on one side of the bed. Writing desk and bed actually met at the end of the bed so you had to climb over the end of the bed!! The room was very dark as it was not possible to open the window shutters fully. We had to have a light on al the time. Only space to layout one suitecase and very limited storage space. The continental breakfast was good though there were a limited number of tables at which to sit. This made for a rushed meal! Despite all this the stay was good and would return to the Hotel, but in a bigger room.

Hotel Forte is easy to tour from due to its great location to the subway system and the Spanish Steps. Our first room (#134), the A/C did not work, the shower is too small, and windowed next to the breakfast room, so it was quite noisy in the morning. At our request, the staff moved us to another room that met our expectations. The breakfast room is small in comparison to other hotels visited. This hotel staff was the friendliest we met on our trip, and spoke fluent english.

The Hotel Forte was a fantastic place to stay- so central to many places. It was a stone's throw from the Spanish Steps and about a 5-7 minute walk to the Trevi Fountain and public transport. The Colosseum was about a 20 min. walk with lots to see on the way. We stayed in the apartment (quadruple room) and it was clean and modern. It was very close to many restaurants and a little supermarket. It would have been helpful to know in advance that the apartment is not located in the same place as reception. With 2 tired, hungry, children at night and plenty of luggage, it was quite a feat to turn around and find the apartment about 2 blocks away.It was not labelled in any way and was on the second floor (no lift). It would have been better to have someone to escort us there, but arriving at night meant there was only one staff member on duty. After this initial hassle though, the hotel was perfect and we received excellent service from all female staff. The breakfast was one of the best we have had in Europe for this type of hotel and the airconditioning helped immensely. We would definitely recommend this hotel, but would encourage you to find out as much about the location of your room in advance.

Excellent location for the price. I am a single female traveller and I felt completely safe. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

The rooms at Hotel Forte were quite elegant although somewhat small. The staff at Hotel Forte was competent, gracious and professional. The staff attended to our every need without hesitation. Recommendations for dining and tours were outstanding; transportation arrangements were made promptly with on-time arrival and at the quoted price. We enthusiastically recommend Forte and will certainly stay there on our next visit to Rome.

Wonderful city. Hotel - great location and reasonably priced, though prices were lowered after we had booked. Still not had returned the pen that I left in the safe (yes my fault!), which was found by the cleaner, despite assurances from the manager etc. - disappointing.

I was travelling with my wife and were are in our 50s. We wanted accommodation located where we could walk to many of the historic sites. Hotels are expensive in Rome so we knew that we would have to compromise on facilities to get an affordable hotel in the best location. We succeeded. The hotel is a few hundred yards from the Spanish Steps in a quaint cobbled side street. There is not a lot of space in the hotel, especially the dining room at breakfast time. Our hotel room was behind reception so there was more noise than was ideal. Romans come to work early so there was a lot of traffic noise (tyres on cobblestones)early in the morning. If you want a well placed hotel, in a charming district with clean rooms and professional friendly staff then Hotel Forte is for you. If you want luxary hotel services/facilities then go somewhere else but be prepared to pay a lot more. One tip: book a car and driver (via the hotel) to collect and deliver you to the airport. We did this and we were so glad we did. We had a wonderful holiday.

This hotel has a problem with overbooking. I cannot recommend it, which is a shame because the hotel itself is very nice. My story: I e-mailed the hotel three days in advance to reconfirm my reservation because a couple of the reviews had mentioned overbooking. The hotel did not bother to respond, although when I arrvied at the hotel, they mentioned they had received the e-mail & responded. Since I checked my e-mail constantly waiting for a response (I was already in Europe), I know they did not respond. They waited until I arrived to tell me they were fully booked and never got my reservation. I pulled out my reservation confirmation from Venere showing the property had confirmed it. They said they were sorry but they had no rooms. Instead, they called around to find a room for the four of us, resulting in an apartment that was available just for that night. This, of course was unacceptable because we were suppose to stay for 5 nights. At that point, the front desk person informed me that they happened to have our room available for the remainder of our stay. We therefore accepted and spent the night at the apartment (no air conditioning & noisy location equalled no sleep). As a result our first day in Rome was wasted, moving hotels & trying to catch up on our sleep. This was a horrible start to our stay in Rome. After spending 4 nights at the Forte (which was very nice), I came to the conclusion that they did get my reservation but because it interfered with another reservation, they just decided to ship us out for one night. That way, they could have the other reservation and mine as well. So, make a reservation at your own risk. Even with a confirmation, your reservation is not assured if a better reservation comes along.

This hotel is perfectly located near the Spanish steps and metro stop. Our first room was little more than a box and very dark and dreary but we asked for an upgrade and were given a more spacious room with no problem. The staff was very accomodating and welcoming and considering the location the price to quality was fairly accurate. The bathrooms were very small and the rooms were pretty noisy, though.

A wonderful hotel with an excellent location. While the size of the rooms do not warrant the price, the location demands it. If you want to stay near the Piazza di Spagna, this is a superb mid-budget hotel for that purpose. The cleaning crew and staff are of excellent quality and someone is always on staff. The amenities of the hotel and room are very satisfying and the air conditioning is nice and cold. I have no regrets about staying here and would gladly do so again.

My friends and I really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Forte. The staff could not have been more welcoming, helpful and friendly. The only negative about the hotel was that our room was a triple so not much space, the bathroom was cramped and there was no shower curtain however it was very clean and comfortable. The location was great - next to the Spanish Steps and a short walk to the Trevi Fountain. I would definately recommend this hotel.

This hotel is very welcoming and is in a brilliant location. The staff are very friendly and will recommend the best local restaurants to try.(There are plenty of eateries in the surrounding area). The rooms are small but very comfortable.A buffet continental breakfast is served from which there is plenty to choose. Would I go back? Definitely. I see little point in looking for anywhere different as this hotel would be difficult to beat.

This was a perfect location for us, easy walking distance to the Vatican as well as to the Colleseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Pantheon. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely return the next time we are in Rome.

Hotel Forte was nice itself once we actually got to stay in a room at the property. However, our arrival night wasn't that pleasant since the staff had given up our credit card guaranteed room to someone else before we arrived. They ended up putting us in a 'flat' they use for 'overflow' guests about a block away. The place was filthy. The floors hadn't been washed in what appeared like years! The staff at the hotel seemed really confused. The next day when we arrived to get the room we were told we would have. The desk manager took us to a room that was already occupied...talk about embarrassing walking in on someone else in the room! Once we got settled in our actual room, it was clean and nice...spacious for Europe standards for a triple. The breakfast room was nice also. But, I wouldn't stay at the hotel again because of all the hassles and incompetent front desk staff.
