About Hotel Fontana

reception Hotel Fontana reception The small and romantic Hotel Fontana is located in a 400 years old building in the heart of Rome and so close to the Trevi fountain that it is possible to toss a coin from the guestroom window, offering the possibility to enjoy everything the eternal city has to offer right outside the front door.

This is not a modern and technologic hotel. Instead the owners wish to offer a peaceful and relaxing stay in the magical atmosphere of this building, which was once home to a 16th century convent.

Fabulous location, thats really why you stay here! the hotel has a lot of charm, the rooms are lovely and airy. The hotel is very quaint, its very much an experience staying there. Bathroom however was verging on unusably small. The dining area was amazing overlooking the fountain. I would say that i stayed in off peak, 190euro for a double for one night. It is a lot of money to fork out and some people would be dissapointed. You really are paying for the location. I didnt find for the price also that the staff were particularily friendly. They did their job compentently and professionally, but ive had amazing service in other places where they are only receving a fraction of the cost. For this reason I wouldnt rush back, but it certainly is ideal for a romantic break.

Thie is the most "un professionable" hotel for this kind of money I have ever stayed in. The night clerk spoke little english. You could help yourself to room keys too as he wasnt always there. We signed up for a tour of the Vatican and it was disaster. The tour guide left us and we had to get a taxi back. The only decent thing was the breakfast room. And the service there was excellent.

First time in Rome. I was a single traveler so location and safety were very important. Very crowded in front of the Trevi Fountain the majority of the time except for very early in the morning. Great location for walking to other sights as well as lots of shopping & restaurants in the immediate area. Hard for the tour company to pick me up as well as taxis as you can't drive up to the hotel. Location, location, location is what this hotel has to offer.

Hotel Fontana was a great hotel due to it's location. It is quite old, and the size of the room was quite small (I don't get the point of having a separate room for the wardrobe!), but the staff were friendly. You really pay for the location though, not the quality of the rooms, and the location is fnatastic.

Stayed for 6 days in Rome. The location of the hotel is excellet for visiting main monuments and galleries in town center. The view of the Trevi fountain is excellent from above. On the other hand, the hotel and rooms does not correspond to 3 stars category. There is no hall or other public area facilities and the rooms were small and noisy.

I've been to Italy many times. I found the desk clerks relatively unhelpful and snooty. I'm sure they're weary of having to deal with dumb Americans, but they don't have to act like Frenchmen - One in particular seemed bothered to have to help us. Isaac was great. He was always cheerful and helpful. The view from the terrace is amazing and worth seeing, but I would not come back to this hotel ever.

We stayed in a standard room, which was lovely, spacious (bearing in mind you are in the heart of Rome) and amazingly quiet, given the hoardes of people outside of the hotel! Everyone was very welcoming and with it being our first time in Italy, gave us a great insight into the warmth of the Italians. If you are going to Rome for a special occasion, we cannot recommend highly enough the restaurant Terazza, situated in Hotel Eden.

My room was with view to Fontana de Trevi, wonderful, but without condicioned air and very small, my childrens room was spaciosly ,with conditioned air , but without the view. I thought that such a expensive room would have conditioned air, is impossible to sleep with the windows opened because of the noise of the Fontana.

The Hotel Fontana was a typical Italian Hotel and was very acceptable. We did complain that the shower room and toilet in room 203 was extreamly small (the toilet itself being fitted in a very small space) but the hotel was full so we could not move to another room. The location of the hotel could not have been better, being near to the Trivi Fountain. Thank you for your help and assistance in making our visit to Rome very enjoyable.

Everything about this hotel was absolutely fabulous! Hotel personnel accompanied us to our car, escorted us to the parking garage, and brought up our luggage from two blocks away! The location provided a lot of good people watching from our window overlooking the Trevi Fountain, and the room was just beautiful! Housed in an old convent, the building is small, but quaint, and very European. Who can beat breakfast in a cheery rooftop location overlooking a landmark of Rome? I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Hotel Fontana is a great stay for a quick trip to Rome where you want to be in the middle of it all and only a few minutes walk away from the sites. Be sure to ask for a room NOT facing the fountain so you can enjoy the sounds of the fountain without the noise of the crowds. We found the Hotel extremely clean yet a typical small size for Rome. Do NOT miss the complimentary breakfast, with a charming staff, a great array of food and a beautiful morning view of the fountain.

The price of this hotel is more than worth only if you have a room with a view on the fontana (usually u will have to pay 20euro extra) it is amzing. Otherwis you will have a small standard room in the center of rome with the only possibility to have a breakfast in a terace with a wonderfull view, but a guess you can find much better for that price.

We stayed in Rm. 106 from June 5 to June 9, 2005. The room had a fantastic view of the Trevi fountain. The room did not have air conditioning but did have a ceiling fan. With the window open during day and night the noise from the fountain might bother some people. Some of the staff were more helpful and pleasent than others. The hotel is situated in an ideal location for walking or taking the metro to sightsee Rome. Overall, we had a nice stay at this hotel.

If it wasn't for Isaac, we would never have stayed one night. If you ask for a view, you get a room without Air Conditioning and in July that is unacceptable. They moved us to an air conditioned room the second night but the bathroom was way too small even for Europe standards. Understand, you are staying in a VERY old convent. Need I say more.

Great location. Room with view of the Trevi Fountain ... can't be beat it. Drawbacks: can't pull up to the hotel in your car or taxi. It's in a pedestrian only area. Have to park 1 - 2 blocks away and walk to the hotel with your luggage. Pack light!!! Rooms are small (std. for European hotels). Common areas in the hotel are dark and dreary. Hotel needs to be updated/modernized. Staff was fairly friendly. Spent 1 night here after having travelled around Italy for 2 weeks. Stayed at another hotel (Hotel Cosmopolita) for a few days when we first arrived in Rome at the beginning of our vacation. Much nicer(and cleaner)than Hotel Fontana, for only 20 Euros more per night. All in all, Hotel Fontana was what we expected it to be. We really just wanted to have a view of the Trevi Fountain from our room for one night. We did. Well worth it.

The location is fabulous but there is not much else positive to say about the hotel. The rooms are exceedingly small, the decor gloomy and if the staff had not changed our room, we would have left. The services are very poor. Its the first hotel we've been in about 25 years of travelling that offered no soap or shampoo or even a laundry list! The breakfast was acceptable but the hostess was exceedingly ungracious and glum. It did not make for a good start to the day. Our opinion is that the Fontana has the potential to be a really great small hotel but the management are uninterested since its fantastic location will always ensure e at its fully occupied. We, however, will not return.

Beautiful and unusual old building, wonderful location, clean, comfortable rooms - but be sure to get the ones with the view. Never made it to breakfast but enjoyed the view of the Trevi by day and by night. Good bathroom facilities, some odd smells (did say it's an old building...) but all in all this is a fantastic hotel and a great base for exploring Rome.

There is a big difference between rooms facing the Trevi fountain (9) and the others (18), but the price is the same! We stayed in both, the first night in a very very small room facing the side street (and the wall of the next building in 4 metres approx.), beds were single beds, in a row, and because of the narrow street almost no natural light in the room! Then we got a room facing the front and the fountain and ahhhh! Beautiful! The size ok for a 16th century house, double bed, bathroom ok (even with a small bathtub) and bright sunshine through the window! It depends on the reception staff's mood (I couldn't figure out their criteria) what kind of room you get. However, they were friendly and my begging for a front room helped after one night in the gruelling room (and I didn't bribe them, I only left a generous tip in the end.) However, I would have preferred to pay a bit more for the security of getting a nice room from the start!

The location of Hotel Fontana is excellent, situated right next to the Fontana de Trevi and only a few minutes walk from the main shopping street. Good restaurants are within a few minutes walk. Excellent in terms of distance from major tourist attractions. The Vatican is approx 20-25 minutes walk and the Colluseum approx. 20 minutes in the other direction. The Pantheon and Spanish Steps are within 10 minutes walk. The only problems we had with the hotel were: 1. The shower cubicle in the room was too small which meant that every way you turned the shower curtain would stick to you!! 2. The breakfast area on the 3rd floor was a bit small if the hotel was full, and also the tables and chairs were not really suitable for any adult with normal sized legs.

THIS HOTEL HAS TO HAVE THE BEST VIEW IN THE WHOLE OF ROME. We had room 206 which I believe qualifies as a superior room. Upon check-in we went to our room and opened the shutters and WOW we could not believe our eyes. We were face on the Trevi fountain. We could even throw our coin into the fountain from our window (there is a belief that if you do so you are sure to return to Rome again). Staff was very polite and gave us restaurant recommendations. I must emphasize that This hotel has made our stay unforgettable!! PS: I originally wanted to book the very flash "St Regis le Grand" (most luxurious hotel in Rome) but I have no regret as the other hotel had no specific view. Besides what is the point of having "Versailles" in your bedroom when you go to Rome to visit the sights (unless you're honeymooning and stay in all day). The Fontana hotel is a bit pricey (240 euros per night though we had a 600 euros/3 nights deal late check out/ breakfast inclusive). However I would most definately return and recommend to everyone. However watch out for taxi drivers who try to rip you off... We arrived by coach at Termini station and took a regular, official white taxi. Even though I was aware to watch for the meter (which I did) I found it a bit strange as the number displayed never went up. When I mentioned it to the driver he mumbled something in Italian which did not make much sense to me. We got to the Trevi Fountain he first got my partner out of the car, pushed some button on the meter which said 28.20 Euros so he said 30 !! Then he said 34 for the luggage. I knew that was a very expensive ride, so argued with him and left the car by giving him 30 Euros. When we left Rome, the hotel got us a car (they gave us a ticKet with car number on it) and the journey cost us 9.72 Euros. So word of wisdom make sure that the meter is PROPERLY running or get out of the car if you can (or haven't got luggage in the boot like we had). Everything else was absolutely fantastic !!!!
