The sign outside this hotel said it was on the 2nd floor and when we went up there, there was not a soul in sight. It turns out their reception area was moved to the 1st floor but they haven't changed the sign yet. Our group of 7 stayed in one triple and one quadruple room for 2 nights for a total of 576 euro (not including the Rome hotel tax). Surprisingly, the triple room (and the bathroom) was roomier than the quadruple. The quadruple room is pretty small. There was one queen bed and two singles and the beds are literally one foot apart. The bathroom was average size. The rooms were spotless, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is a decent deal for 5 euro pp (pastries, salami & cheese, fruit, yogurt, muesli). However, the coffee/cappaccino is from one of those automatic machines and tasted like it was made from a powder, plus it was not very hot. In any case, this hotel was the best deal I could find near the Vatican (5-10 minute walk away). There is a fruit market just a few doors down where you could buy bottled water for cheap (if you buy it near the touristy areas it's triple the price). Also two blocks down the street on the way to the Vatican is a small plaza where you can buy bus tickets at the newspaper stand and take a 15 minute bus ride to the Colosseum. Also in that plaza is a great sandwich place called "200 degrees" ("degrees" is in symbol form on their sign) with great, hearty sandwiches for only 5 or 6 euro (their "Risorgimento" sandwich is yummy, also the one with grilled veggies). Around the corner from the plaza is an awesome gelato place called "Old Bridge Gelateria" that gives huge portions for 1.5 to 3 euro. I would definitely recommend the hotel for the cleanliness and the location.

Free wi-fi only works in some rooms. You have to visit the lobby to use wi-fi. The night front desk person uses the internet to talk to his 17 yr old girlfriend in Istambul in full view of the guest. There are no phone in the rooms, not even to call the front desk. The rooms for 4 are space challenged and really made for two. It's not bad hotel for the price.

We had two rooms because there were 7 of us in our group. The one room was in the rennovated part and it was very nice. Great TV, great space, well air conditioned. The other room was in the older part, and the TV was tiny and did not work. The air conditioner worked well, except it dripped all night long. Overall, we had a good experience, but the difference in the rooms was disappointing. Others in our group had trouble with the "safe" that they used. It was a big hassle and very expensive.

Quad room was very cramped, with little walking space between the beds (about less than a foot). Nicely designed room, modern looking. Big flat screen tv. One little elevator for the building. Hotel was hard to find from the metro. We even asked a police officer and he had no idea.

I was really impressed by the Hotel Florida - I didn't expect such high standards from a 2 star hotel but the room was modern, comfortable and very clean. The girl at the front desk staff was very friendly. The entry wasn't very impressive and it's a pity that there are no breakfast facilities but overall I was very happy with the stay here.

This place was AMAZING! I have stayed in a number of budget-conscious places on my trips in June-July, 2009. This place has topped them ALL!! I am traveling with a family of five (wife, husband, 3 kids aged 9, 13, 14). It is difficult to find a place that can house a family of that size if you are on a budget and this place did it with style. We have stayed in hotels/motels that run the entire spectrum in North America and had heard that places in Europe were ALL small, very expensive for what you got and often had to share bathrooms. This has proven to be the case sometimes, but not in Rome!! The Hotel Florida (aka pensione) was just renovated and did, in fact rival some hotels of 3 and 4 stars in North America. This is incredible considering we were just spitting distance from the Vatican City. The service here was outstanding. We needed an extra cup for the food and drink we brought back to our room and asked the front desk. They paused for a moment and then said, we will bring it to your room. We waited for a while and then at one point thought they must have forgotten us. But they did not because they did come about 20 minutes later with a brand new stack of plastic cups for us. I think they must have gone out to purchase them just for us. I wouldn't have expected or even requested this had I known, but I think this little story just tells you about the level of dedication this group has to service. They were also very helpful in explaining our million tourist-type questions. I can not say enough about the service, family-friendly approach they had and would highly recommend it. The size of the room would be the only somewhat negative, but remember, we had FIVE people in there with a king size bed and two singles. Take one of those singles out and poof, you lots of room. Plus, if you are staying in your room too much, why are you in Rome??? One last traveler tips: We took the metro from the Termini Train station. We took the RED

Great place to stay in Rome, very close to San Pietro and to the metro Ottaviano (about 8 mins walk). Hotel is small but very, very quiet. Staff was really nice on my arrival: I checked in early in the morning and I was able to get into my room straight away, even though I was initially told that my room wasn't ready (I think they gave me a better room which was ACTUALLY ready...)This was extremely helpful since I was coming from a long trip from Brazil. The room was small but it had just been renovated: new furniture, new bed & sheets, new bathroom and no funny smells. Surroundings are busy during daylight and quiet and safe at night. I could even get hooked up to somebody's wi-fi! Probably the best value I've paid in a while (I'm a frequent traveller!) and definitly the best value I've paid in Rome. If I had to say something negative, is that credit cards are not accepted and payment must be done upon arrival...so have your euros ready!

Nice calm hotel with friendly and helpfull stuff. My window was faced in the yard and it was very quiet. Great old style lift. Shower was a little bit tight. Big grocery shop across the street and many other shops along the street.
