Very nice little hotel on third floor of a building. Ancient lift but in working condition. 20 minutes walk from Termini Station and had to take a bus (nearby)to get to main attractions although the Spanish Steps (disappointing!) were 20 minutes walk away. Breakfast was good. Rooms clean and not too small (bathroom was small but adequate) Price was OK considering it is in Rome and a small hotel. Would recommend this hotel for younger people but personally would prefer a more central hotel (and probably more expensive)

Walking from the railway station it is initially very difficult to find unless you have a detailed map...lots of winding streets. But when you have found it you will soon orientate yourselves and find an easier way back to the train station

I selected this hotel via Venere.com, and I was pleased with this hotel more than any other in Italy. It was quiet and clean with great beds and a generous breakfast. The hotel staff was gracious and Tomas was charming. A wonderful value and certainly recommended to other travelers.

We got this hotel as a special, nonrefundable offer on Venere.com. At that price it was a great bargain, but at full price, it would be OK but nothing special. It's a very small hotel, one of several in a residential building. It's on the 2nd floor (European terminology). There is an ancient elevator, which once got stuck, we think because someone hadn't closed the inner doors properly on exiting. It was fixed within an hour. The staff were very nice and helpful. The surly night clerk mentioned by earlier guests must not be around any more. There was a very nice young woman at night, and another very nice young woman during the day. The rooms are small, including the bath. The bed was not terribly comfortable, although I've seen worse in more expensive hotels. The furnishings are very basic. There is satellite TV including a few news channels in English. Internet access is available during the day (10 AM to 8 PM), but we didn't use it. The breakfast buffet was not lavish, but adequate, including lunch meats, cereal, yoghurt, and pastries. The surroundings are mostly residential, with a few restaurants nearby, most of which were closed Saturday evening. Our favorite was Il Ristorantino, on Via Servio Tullio. The hotel is within walking distance of Termini Station, the Villa Borghese, the Spanish steps, and Trevi fountain. There are also numerous buses, including the number 62 to the Vatican area on Via XX Settembre, and the number 38 to Termini station (3 stops) on Via Piave.

It offers excellent value for money. It is a modest clean and friendly hotel near the city centre close to Via Veneto. Do not expect luxury. It is a clean, cheap and decent hotel. Plus the employees speak English and are warm and helpful.

We arrived about 2p and were greeted well and shown to our rooms. the rooms were very nice and spotlessly clean. Returning to our rooms the 2nd night the manager, or 1 of the staff, had been smoking and the air in the hallways was smelly with smoke. When we were leaving after our stay the elevator was not operating due to the door not closing. It was obvious that this was an ongoing problem as they had a bent hanger hanging on the wall used to fix it. A simple fix would be to install a hook on the door to keep it closed when not operting. We had to lug our luggage down 3 flts. of stairs. No personel offered to help us. Other than these 2 problems our stay at the Ercoli was very nice and i would stay there again. breakfasts were great!

This little hotel was a find. It is located in an unassuming building and can be a little difficult to find but it's worth the hunt. We were greeted very well and although we don't speak Italian at all and the host spoke limited English we made jokes and had a good time. The only issue was a sign saying the toliet had a problem, however, we never noticed any issues. The breakfast was good and the location was great.

The beds are the best feature of this hotel. They are very comfortable. Bring ear plugs for the noise level while sleeping and you will be fine. Breakfast was inconsistant. One morning there was a wonderful choice of items like meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurt, juice, rolls, etc. The next morning, almost nothing. One morning, there was no hot water in the shower (I'm talking ice cold!). This was disappointing considering the price of the room (130 euros). I think you are OK if you shower at non-peak times, like 4:00pm which I did one day (plenty of hot water then!). The Hotel location is just a bit outside most the activity, but very workable. I found the Termini exit the best to use. The walk to the hotel is completely flat this way. You can walk from Barberini, but it is up a slight incline, (OK if you don't have a suitcase). It is about 10-15 minute walk from either exit. Print a Google Map before you leave home and you will have no problem!

Our favorite city on the 10 day trip and the home like atmosphere of this hotel was wonderful. We had a group of 6 so it was 3 per room and although the rooms are not huge, they were clean, the owner was a huge help in pointing out a good place to eat (our best meal of the trip) and I would definetly return to stay here. The location was great, we walked to the tourist bus stops easily and there were a few places to eat very close as well. If you are looking to see the city, not hang out in your rooms, this is hotel is a great deal. The elevator (lift) is antique but we had a blast with the whole experience. Pasqully the owner is great and when we return to Rome, we will see him again for sure!! PS. The baths and water pressure gave us no problem at all!!!

Really enjoyed the Ercoli, we had room 3 and it was huge clean and comfortable. Just a short walk to the Termini station so a really good location. Nice little bars and cafes in the immediate vicinity and lots more a short walk away. Rooms may be a little noisy in the city in the summer with the windows open hwoever that being said name me a city in the world (with the exception perhaps of venice) where the rooms would not suffer excessivley with traffic noise, especially when you are in the heart of the city. Some work being done when we stayed but work seemed to be carried out in the hours we were out so no issue really. The hotel looks nice and fresh for it. Nice breakfast, typical euro fayre but nice. Looking for womehwere clean, cheap(ish), friendly, in the city for a couple of days. Well try the Ercoli. If like me you look at a hotel name and then look at Tripadvisor and then think ohhhhh too risky, dont look tripadvisor up for this one. Sure its not the ritz but have you seen the price of the Ritz! Nice place recommended

The hotel its in a very luxury district , with beautyfull buildings and close to the Termini station (20 minutes walking). Close to via Veneto and Via Nacionale, and for the other side, near to Trevi's Fountain. The breakfast its quite a bit poor (no too much variety, only industrial buns and nutella) and the hotel its in the third floor of the building (maybe you be scared of the building front face). The rooms are quiet and so so so warm (keep in mind to open the windows in winter), they have latex mattresses and the shower its aroun 60x60 cm. The real check out time its 10.30 and the staff doesnt speak another language than Italian (we're spaniards). The overall its very good and the prices for rome its cheap.

The hotel is not so far away from the station termini. There are good connections to bus. All the main sights of the town are easy to arrive via bus or metro. The rating for cleanliness of the room comes from a damaged water line anywhere on the floor. We had some water in the room sometimes. Anyway, I would recommend the hotel to all people coming to Rome to see the town and not to spend their time in the room.

We enjoyed our stay at Ercoli and found it convenient for all Rome's sites, the Metro was nearby. The hotel was situated off the main street so it was not too noisy during the morning. We loved the antiquated lift. We were very pleased with how clean our room was, the service not fussy but very good. We were provided with all we needed for breakfast and then left alone to have a very leisurely breakfast. We would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone and would certainly use it again.

The hotel was decent but a bit expensive for the quality. The bathroom shower was terrible. Both my husband and I dreaded the shower because it was SO SMALL!!!! I can barely fit in the shower. We had the view of the bottom side of the upper floor in the bathroom. There was a garden hose in our ceiling. Even though it was a non-smoking room, the smoke from the neighboring rooms and the bathroom ceiling was very strong. In the early morning, we were awoken by the employees ringing the doorbell. All in all, I wouldn't recommend booking this hotel to anyone.

We stayed for 4 nights. The room and location of the hotel were okay, but the bathroom was not nice at all: 1. The cover of the toilet flush was missing. 2. The shower only provided DROPS of water and it took ages to wash the shampoo out. 3. The water temperature was constantly changing from hot to cold and the shower was very small. 4. Once our bathroom mat was dirty and the lady only turned it to the back side but did not change it. As the personnel only speaks Italian it was not possible to complain, they did not understand us.

The hotel is located in an area removed from the regular landmarks however I did not consider this a detraction. Walking or the regular bus service available on the nearby main streets ensured that all areas were within timely reach. The actual area that the hotel in was safe and clean. The local amenities included an excellent cheese shop, several restaurants (the two I tried were reasonable)and a couple of good, although pricey wine bars. The only downside of the hotel was the shower. After two days I had admitted defeat as it fluctuated wildly between the two extremities, on one occasion the water supply simply stopped mid-lather! The showers had been mentioned in previous reviews so I was not expecting Niagara, however it is an area the hotel should quickly address or they will suffer in their repeat business. Hotel staff were fine if you also made the effort, breakfast was the normal expected, no access problems late at night, just that damn shower.

The employees do not speak English (not even basic level) and we could not communicate at all with any of them. The towels were not changed from the previous guests, when arriving in the room (we arrived at 15,30 and 10 am is the time when you should live the room - but apparently it was not enough time). Toilet was also not clean, when we arrived. During our stay the room was not cleaned, as we remarked a lot of dust under the bed and on the floor, in general. The shower is not at all comfortable (very little space and difficult to use). The breakfast is poor and even if arriving in time (between 7,30-9,30) it was not sufficient bread/croisants and we had to ask for. Overall the price/quality is not satifactory and I will not stay again there or advise the accomodation at Ercoli, which is not a 2 stars hotel, but a pension.

The location of the hotel is good because you don't have to use public transportation. The biggest problem was communication with the staff because nobody speaks english. The other big problem is too small bathroom, especially shower cabin. The shower is of bad quality, water is too hot or too cold it is very difficult to adjust it right and the water pressure is weak. All rooms have air condition, but you don't have any choice in regulating temperature (on/off). By the way it is so noisy that it wakes you up several times a night even when you don't use it.

Arriving, we were expecting something a lot less than what we got! This is a really nice place. We stayed here August 2006. -There is a lift to the 3rd floor that looks antique but works as new. -The entrance is secured and entry from street available with your own key 24hrs. -The hotel reception is beautifully tiled and simply decorated, which carries on into the rooms. -Everything was exceptionally clean. -The room we had was a twin, looked newly refurbished. The bathroom was clean. The shower was a small cubicle, but adequate for us. No power shower, but it got us clean. -The room was compact, but not too small for 2 people, with 2 hanging wardrobes, chest of drawers etc. -There was a safe, and the key was provided free of charge, really useful for Rome. -The room had aircon, which worked well and had unrestricted usage and was controlled by us not preset. -Breakfast was cold stuffs, self-service, with hot drinks served to the table. Beware - real Italian expresso! They couldn't make tea, but then you can't have everything... -The staff were English-speaking for hotel business and a few had better English. Gave us a free map. The staff were very helpful and friendly, even when we had no idea what the other was saying!!! -You can now pay by credit card. -The hotel is a 10 min walk from the station and underground + bus station. Reasonable walk, even later on, taxi 8 euros. (Beware - they charge 1 euro for every bag in the boot no matter its size, so keep small ones with you). - In summary this is a friendly little place kept to high standards and really good value for money anywhere, not just for Rome.

The hotel is slightly off the beaten track, but so much the better - it's nice and quiet, which is important to me! My only complaint was the shower - very small, and with low water pressure. Also the temperature varied without warning - perhaps due to the low pressure?

We enjoyed our stay at this little hotel. it was in a good area that was about 15minutes walk from the Spanish Steps, and about 10 minutes walk from the Termini Station, an area I wouldn't recommend anyone staying in. We were on the 3rd floor and our room overlooked the street and was quiet at night. the hotel was very safe with two huge locked doors off the street, a bolted door on entry into the hotel foyer and then our locked door so we felt extrememly safe which was our main priority. the staff were very friendly and helpful. Down our street was a little fruit shop, delicatessen, wonderful cheese shop, and the restaurant, Il Sirriso which we went to three nights running it was that good, the best pasta i have ever eaten.. I would highly recommend this little hotel to anyone who was looking for something inexpensive and safe.

The hotel is well located with friendly staff. Our bathroom was reasonably spacious but falling apart. The tap in the shower kept falling off and the toilet flush need repairs. Other than, a good breakfast in sunny breakfast room.

Friendly and helpful staff at the hotel. The rooms were very clean. The shower wasnt great - no water pressure or consistent temperature - but if this isnt important to you - its a good choice for Rome. The walk to the Forum took about 20 minutes. Taxi from main train station cost 8 euros.

Very expensive for what it has to offer. One night our room (No 8) flooded with waters that came from next room's drain wich was in our closet!!!! Very small rooms, tiny showers, poor breakfast, employees-owners didn't speak english, they didn't accept credit card payment.

A clean and reliable hotel, very conveniently located in a quiet (by Rome standards) and pleasant neighbourhood. Staff are friendly and competent, and breakfast is about average for Italy. Termini Station is nearby, and a number of the big tourist attractions are within walking distance, too. If you're staying in April go round the corner and admire the magnificent wisteria that grows on the wall of a building that is built on top of a Roman villa in Piazza Sallustio.

Az egyetlen negativum, a kis zuhanyzó, legalábbis a mi szobánkban. (3.) Tiszta, rendes a személyzet. Only negative thing is the small shower. Very good price/quality. They have a baby-bed. I enjoy my stay, next year same place.

Single mom with 9 year old: Staff speaks no English but were all cheerful and helpful despite language barrier. Web page states they have an airport shuttle but when I asked about it for thre trip home I was told I had to catch a bus to Termini station. Room was clean but very dusty surfaces, we had to ask for more toilet paper daily. They treated my child like a treasured guest- she loved every minute of it. We would definitely recommend the Ercoli to other travellers.

The hotel is good value, and it is in fact, the best 2-star hotel I've been to. Staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the only English-speaking staff works during the day... We arrived late at night and it was a bit difficult checking-in as the front desk clerk didn't speak a word of English. He gave us Room 11 which was perhaps the worst room they have (but still OK) -- room at the end, overlooking back of the buildings; and the toilet had a bit of a sewer-stench. But we figured that we won't be staying much in the hotel room during our trip, so we didn't fuss. Breakfast was just so-so (eat-all-you can, though). Overall, I'd still recommend this hotel to people on a budget.

Nice hotel, good price and really near train station and city center. There was also a good breakfast available. The only negative thing was not the bathroom in itself, but the shower: it was really small, and I am 1.75 cm for 72 kg... And it was also not at the top, just a little water flushing. But because of the vacation (by train) and the only 2 night, it has been a good choice.

This is a great place for the money. While it is not right next to the main sites, it's in a much nicer neighborhood then the Termini area, where most of the other budget hotels are. (The Termini area is a little un-safe feeling). This neighborhood was quiet and safe. It was completely silent at night, but the downside of this was a lack of near-by stuff to do at night. But if you don't mind a 15 or 20 min walk you can get to plenty of stuff easily. The staff were very helpful, though they know no English. There is a cute breakfast, where you can get a croissant, roll, yogurt, orange juice, and espresso drink. However, I would not recommend this place to overweight people. Sorry for being blunt, but the shower is very tiny. Probably 2.5 x 2.5 feet at best. The room is on the small side as well, but it's cute and comfortable. The double room did have plenty of closet space, though, and a small desk, and a nice window (that opened) with a view of the street. Our double bed was actualy two twins pushed together, but I honestly didn't even notice the first night. Well heated (as we were there in January). Overall, a good value. I would definitely stay there again.

Simple, spacious, spotless. Tucked into quiet neighbourhood N of Termini train station, very near the Italian Fianance building. We stayed there 2 nights but found a three star hotel closer to the station at the same price with better breakfast. Ercoli's breakfast consisted of sugary croissants, dry rolls, yogurt, OJ and tea or coffee.

We'd like to point up the annonced property of the room. As posted several times the surrounding was very loud because of garbage trucks every night, but protected by very good windows. Against offering at the Venere page there was no possibilty of credit card paying. Unfortunately the shower in our first room was not very good, without any possibility to control the pressure and the temperature of the water. We hope they solve this problem. Totally very good address for Rome journeys! Very good restaurant nearby in the Via Calabria called "La Cantinola".
