The room was not so clean. For the price of a room they can provide a good tv in the room. The hotel is at the end of the historical part of Rome. It takes you like half an hour to arrive in the center.

We had a big room (must be some kind of family room) with entrance to a garden. it was really big, expecially comparing to "normal" Rome hotel room. Basic, but clean. Good price. Bad surroundings.

We have visited Rome many times and chose this hotel for the final night of our trip as our flight left early the next morning and we wanted to be close to the train station. I wish I would have looked this property up on the map rather than just depending on the Venere map. Hotel is not in a great neighborhood and you can find something much closer to the train station if that is your objective. Having said that, while our initial reception was a bit rude the night receptionist was very friendly and spoke great english. My only other complaint would be that the room really had very little in common with the photos online. Our room did not have a balcony as I was expecting and was instead in the basement of the building. This meant we were unable to open the windows and had a LOT of noise from the street. If I could do it over again, I wouldn't pay 99 euro to stay in a basement room in a crappy neighborhood.

We had the top room with a balcony! The staff was competent and very cordial. OK, the neighborhood is not great, but we never felt unsafe and it is clean. Not much to do, but we found a good cafe, food store, and Internet point. We were there a full week.

Beautiful hotel! Super friendly, efficient, and knowledge staff!! My husband and I were very, very impressed with the staff. The hotel is easy to access from the bus or train lines. Although the shower is quite small (even compared to others in Italy) the bathroom is very spacious. And there is a nice balcony off the room. I'd love it if there was a bistro set on the balcony, but it was still a nice amenity. The only problem we had was the two twin mattresses were not very well linked together. In the middle of the night we were waking up to push the mattresses back together.

we found that there is a bus stop very near the hotel (cross the road, and you are in A. Grandi road), but we did not get this info on the internet site ; welcoming was very nice ; hotel located 10 minutes by bus from Termini station ; as hotel is located near Porta Maggiore, there is some traffic in the morning (so, some noise early in the morning) ; but room is clean and comfortable. In the room, TV set is too small !

Hotel has a good location. Unfortunately, we got a room on the ground floor (just a little below the ground level), so it was clearly not very bright ! Moreover there were sewer odours coming from the shower and this was coming into the whole room.

The location of the hotel is just perfect. Not in the center but very close to get everywhere you want by walk. Also the metro stations are very close so if you decide to start your day in the oposit side of the city (Vatican) you are there in a few minutes. The room is very nice and comfortable. Everything you need is available and clean every day. The breakfast is very tasty and big enough for adult person. Caffee, tea, orange juice, fresh toasts and hot croissant … The hotel staff is pleasant and all the time prepared to help you and give you any feedback regarding Roma (map is available on the reception). Their english is excelent. If I would visit Roma again I would certainly choose this hotel again and of course I recommend this hotel as a kind place for your stay in Roma.

Stayed in this hotel from 19 Jun 2008 to 21 Jun 2008. Nice budget hotel. staff is good, helpful and everybody from the staff that we met, speaks English. Only drawback is the breakfast which scored well in terms of quality but not in terms of quantity. The hotel is quite close to Termini station, but one needs to cover quite a distance to get to the major tourist spots. The hotel did book us on a city tour which was good but could have been better. The room that we stayed in was nice. The bathroom was OK. Over all good value for money.

Overall, an affordable place to stay, we paid about 105 Euro per night in late April 2008. Not super close to metro stop or train station, so there is some walking to get around. About a 8-10 minute walk to nearest metro stop, a 20 minute walk to the train station. Very helpful staff, close to a bus stop to the Coliseum. Not by a super fun area as far as dining and things to do, although there were several restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Had to walk up stairs with luggage. Breakfast was ok.

The hotel is in a quiet side street with very little traffic. To get to the hotel on foot you do have to walk down the road by the train tracks (a bit unsightly) or by the next main street (I would recommend this). The area is not as good for restaurants and shops as some of the other areas of Rome I have stayed in but by the end of our two days there we had found lots of suitable places to eat / buy essentials. It is within a 5 minute walk of the metro station and we easily walked to the colosseum. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful, certainly the best of any hotel I have stayed at in mainland europe. We had asked for a cot and it was all there, ready on arrival. The only drawback was that the hotel room doors were thin and so noise from the reception travelled into the room. However it wasn't late and didn't last for long. Good hotel for people to take small children but there are no lifts to put the pram in. Also the hotel is all in one building (some hotels in Rome have bedrooms in one building and the reception / breakfast room somewhere else).

We've been to Ducale hotel in Rome twice staying for 3 nights each time in April 2008. We booked twin room with private bathroom through venere.com for 97 EUR per night per room. Rooms were clean, bathrooms were also clean and quite spacious. The only problem was that second time we had a room in the basement and there were no windows just glass doors with non-transparent glass. This made it very dark in the room during any time of the day. This is especially inconvenient for getting up in the morning as you can't tell if it is still night or morning as light doesn't get into the room. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was available from 7:30 till 10:00. It included yogurt, brioche, toast, coffee and tea. Nothing to be impressed about but still could be convenient. There was a supermarket nearby (about 5 minute walk on via Mansoni). Closest subway station to the hotel is Mansoni (two stations away from Termini) but you still can get to the hotel from Termini for about 25 minutes on foot. Overall I would recommend this hotel but would suggest asking for a room with the window.

Hotel is in a very dirty and unpleasent part of town. Although it matched the website, I would suggest that this is not the sort of place singles, females or families should stay. I was travelling with my girlfriend. We would never recommend such a hotel unless money was an issue. Saying all that, the hotel staff were nice and the rooms were OK (although extremely basic).

My partner and I visited in March 2008. Our room was very clean and bright (no balcony though). The staff were brilliant (except the lady receptionist who refused to even look at us never mind help us with using the telephone). However all the other staff were extremely helpful, talkative and pleasant. The area isn't brilliant at night (lots of people hanging around) although it really is easy to travel from here. Really enjoyed our stay and would consider staying here again.

We´ve spent in Ducale 5 nights in december, hotel is in very good lacation in Rome center, 20 min walking distance from Colloseum an Forum Romanum, 2 min to the nearest tram stop a 10 min to the nearest underground station. Surroundings ok, hotel building solid, room bit small, but ok, every day cleaning and towel changing, third day sheet change! The only complain is noise from inside of hotel rooms and halls. We were lucky that the hotel was almost empty, but in high season I can´t imagine to sleep here.

Hotel Ducale was one of the nicer hotels we stayed in during this visit to Italy. The bathroom in our room was my favorite out of all of the hotels we stayed in. We had a room located on the top floor next to only one other room. We had our own terrace. It was just lovely. The staff were helpful. The only thing I didn't like was the location. It was near a few restaurants. The area looked like it was the Chinatown of Rome. Unfortunately the metro stop closest to the hotel was closed during our stay. The walk from the train station is longer than stated. Otherwise, great place to stay. Loved our room!

the hotel is small family kind of B&B. When checking in the staff (looks like the manager) gave us a triple room in the basement with no widow but a door toward the backyards. I refused it and asked for a room in the upfloor. He checked and gave me one in the first floor (actually they had more rooms available, just want to give the poor one out first). The room is small and dark. We have to close the double-glazed window otherwise we can't fall to sleep. Noise from trains, behind and buses bysides of roads was very loud. The TV is small old kind with only one chennel. We couldn't turn down the volume because the button is missing, remote control did not work. The breakfast is very basic and little, everyday is the same -same amout given out and same kind. When more people come to have breakfast at the same time 8:00-9:00, the room is so small and we had to wait for the tea cups to be washed then give to us. We only stay for 3 nights that was enough. The good thing about this hotel is fairly convient for transportation close to train station - not very close to, a bit far for walking specially at night, take 105 bus for 4 stops. If you want a simple one, it is OK, but the price is on the high side.

This hotel is advertised as being close to the Rome Termini but it is not as close as they suggest. We would suggest a taxi if you have any luggage to carry or pull. It is a 16 block walk, over very rough, broken sidewalks. A taxi cost approx 10 euros from the station during rush hour. Although the hotel itself was clean and suitable, the surrounding area can be a bit unsettling in the dark. During the day, the area is busy, but at night it is not well lit and there are no buses that will take you to that area at night from the downtown. The metro is only a 15-20 min walk away, but it stops working after 9p.m. everyday. We suggest that if you stay here, budget for taking a taxi back to the hotel everynight. A taxi cost approx. 12 euros from the Trevi Fountain area. The room was exactly as the picture shows. It was clean and the bed was firm. The breakfast was a little more than what we got at other hotels. Usually you recieve a bun, yogurt and coffee. At Ducale they give you a slice of cheese and toast as well. It is not a buffet, they give you a set portion. A big eater might be hungry but it is a typical continental breakfast. Our room was on the same floor as the lobby which we found noisy with the attendant watching T.V. and recieving patrons. There was also a lot of street noise with sirens and the bar across the road. In terms of value for money, this is not a bad hotel. Where you might save money on the rate, you will spend taking taxis at night.

The people at the desk were very helpful and efficient. The rooms were tight (just enough room to walk around the bed), but clean. We were in a very noisy area, but with the shutters, windows, and drapes closed it was quiet enough to sleep. The main drawback and the reason I would not stay here again is the location. It was in an area that did not seem safe at night. It was also not close to the places we wanted to visit. We could walk from the train station which is why we chose it, but the walk from the train station was in a nasty part of the city. Not a nice way to be introduced to Rome. So, if you stay here, be prepared to take cabs to get back and forth. The cabs were plentiful and we never had a problem getting one. The breakfast was not very good, but the coffee was good. The garden area looked ok, but it there was a lot of noise and dirt from the street.

The hotel is kind of away from all major attractions but had a great meal at Momma Mia's just a few blocks away. Hotel breakfast was okay, nothing too wonderful but easy. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Hotel Ducale in Rome. Our room was spacious; the air conditioning was effective; the shower and bathroom area were very good. We especially enjoyed our complimentary breakfast every morning --sometimes we dined outside in the Ducale's tranquil, beautiful patio area and one morning when it was chilly ,we ate inside. One afternoon after lots of sightseeing, we brought back beers and enjoyed them on that darling patio. The service was really efficient. Breakfast was satisfying and nutritional comprised of a yummy croissant, cheese, yogurt, toast and jam, and lots of delicious Nutella (a fabulous chocolate/fudge like spread) and biscotti. It was a typical Italian breakfast. Our location was nice and close to the train station and to the very efficient and safe subway. We could easily hop on the subway and go to the Vatican, or Collusium,or Spanish Stairs, etc. etc. I liked how I felt like I was really staying at a local, friendly Italian establishment. However, there is no elevator so if you're geriatic or not strong, then this isn't the place for you. I would suggest that a better map is provided to get to the Hotel Ducale--it's about a 20-30 minute hike which is difficult because of all the curbs and sometimes the kamikazee-type motor scooters. We finally took a taxi (only 15 Euros and very well worth it). but after our stay, we did walk back to the train station because we were familiar with the streets now and avoided lots of curbs and motor-scooters--only took 20 min. to the train station. This was our first visit to Rome and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay there, and we would definitely go back. Sincerely, Marybeth and Rick Waukesha, Wisc. U.S.A.

We were looking for a budget hotel for our 4 day stay in Rome and this met our requirements. The hotel is a little far from the centre to walk but there are good transport connections with the metro, trams and buses. It's also a handy 15 minute walk from station Termini. The hotel is very clean inside, our room was very new with a huge bathroom. The staff were friendly and the breakfast in the rear courtyard makes a nice start in the morning. The rooms are a little noisy close to the tram lines but you are in a city location. Overall I would recommend this hotel if you are prepared to travel.

The hotel is a nice, small hotel but with excellent services. The one big negative until you get adjusted is that it is very close to the train station and this requires walking through a very rough area, full of immigrants and basically and uncomfortable feeling. But this does not mean there was any violence or sense of threats...The hotel is within walking distance of some of the major places but you must be a good walker as we are.

Veruy bad location. Although generally within the city center the area was the worst in central Rome, as we were afraid during the night. The rooms were very noisy and the hot water pressure was too low. Price over quality very bad, although generally accomodation in Rome is expensive.

I was travelling alone and got a ridiculously small room right behind the reception desk with a small bed, which was not worth the money it cost. I did get a terrace though as i requested for smoking, but it overlooked the hotels public 'patio' area one floor below, so it had absolutely no privacy, and had a great view of a wall. Baby crying all night next door was a bother. Staff were helpful and courteous, location was ok. im sure the double rooms are nice but my advice-pay for a double, or else suffer the inhumanity of a broom cupboard with very little daylight. Hotel is also a little too far from the city centre and all the sights-colosseum is closest main attraction and is about a mile away. Very handy to termini though if thats important. Would i go back to Ducale- no way.

Hotel was very clean and comfortable. However, the hotel did not have the Wi-Fi internet connection promised on the Venere pages. The location was quite far from the city center. Public transportation was also quite far. The surroundings were OK. Overall, a good visit and we would be happy to visit again!

Good service from the staff. Smallish rooms, but I guess that's fairly typical of European hotels. Bathrooms are surprisingly big and well-kept.

This hotel is very nice, clean and spacious. My room has a balcony over looking the quiet street which was really quaint. I read the reviews before booking this hotel so I was prepared for what I'm getting. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the location ! It's a little far from the city center and the train station (10-15 min walk). All the restaurants around here are 'tourist trap' so we have to walk quite a distance (nearer to the station) to find a good, authentic, italian restaurant. If you don't mind the walk, this hotel is a great place to stay at.

Ducale is a nice hotel for tourists looking only for a shower and a bed! We stayed for 4 nights, and have nothing to complain of the room or the hotel. It was very clean and organized. The location however, was where the problem lied. It was not a close to the major site in the city as it seemed. The area was not very nice at night, and we had to walk mor ethan usual to get to the nearest metro or bus station.

The Hotel Ducele is great value and would recomend it to anyone, walking distance to many of the main sights. Be aware if you are getting the bus from the airport to the station, the buses stop on the other side of the train station to the street names on the map, and taxis are expensive. We found out to our cost. Otherwise a great stay.

Excellent hotel. Very clean and in good condition. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was ample and served to you outside in the garden. Although the location was not first rate there were excellent bus routes to all parts of rome. There were some reasonable restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Would stay here again without hesitation.

The accommodation was adequate but sparse. Staff attempted to be helpful but often gave misleading information. Did not seem to know the local area well. We used public transportation and found that it took a couple of days to gain enough expertise to use it easily. Very bare bones but if you are only looking for a good safe bed then we recommend it. We would return if we came back to Rome.

Very friendly staff! Nice breakfast terrace. A triple room was a bit narrow, hard to reach the wardrobe. But apart from that everything was very good. Heavy traffic outside during nights but that's typical for Rome I think. About 15 minutes walk from Stazione Termini, Colosseo and the centre, perfect location.

Hotel is in a good location for accessing Romes main attractions. First room was very small. Staff were not very friendly. Wouldn't do breakfast earlier that 7.30 - even preprepared from night before, not very useful when you have to get an early flight. Overall ok, might be worth paying a little extra if you can afford it. But serves a purpose if your looking for relatively cheap and simple accommodation.

I loooved this hotel, from the start, this was a great option by looking at the pictures, and when i got there there was no complain, everybody was nice and helped me with everything, the room was really nice and they gave me an extra bed im not sure why, haha and the bus stopped right outside of the hotel, it was bus 105 from Termini, theres a metro station very near by, for me the perfect hotel, of course if it was a little cheaper i wouldn't mind, but overall a great place to stayª

The staff was extremely helpful, especially Willy the nightman. (This was our first experience in Rome but 7 days into Italy.) Room was a little small but not anything out of Italian ordianary, shower was extremely small so suck it in and lather up. The drain was a little slow but the water pressure was high so by simply adjusting the flow a little you could take a long shower without flooding the bathroom. Location was very convient from the train station and neighborhood was more than fine to walk around even in the dark. (For those looking for clubbing there were several places very close but were not disruptive to the hotel or spending a quiet evening in your room.) There were several resturants close that had good service and enough English that even non-Italian speakers can order good food. The major sightseeing is a bit of a walk but there are several tours that will pick you up at the hotel, and the hotel, with an evenings notice, will have breakfast ready. The metro is also very close and easy to access. The evening noises were kept to a minimum but at 7:30am there was construction going on next door and that was more than enough of an alarm to get up and start the day. (So if you plan on sleeping late - stay outside of Rome.) Overall a good, helpful experience.

Stayed in a bedroom over looking the terrace. Room very clean; staff very friendly & courteous; spoke English well & all very helpful. Breakfast on terrace a delight!Shower pressure just adequate. Hotel allowed us to leave luggage in secure place on final day until nearer flight time. Some noise from road traffic but didn't stop us sleeping! Pleasant restaurants in surrounding area; good location for sites ie. coliseum say 30 minute walk.

The staff at the Hotel Ducale are very friendly. We enjoyed our time there. However, Venere.com listed the property "All rooms feature a private bathroom, with shower or bathtub, hairdryer, individually controlled air-conditioning, heating, satellite TV, mini bar, writing desk, electronic mini safe, direct dial telephone and Wi-Fi Internet connection," and also as offering shuttle service to and fron the airport. There was no internet connection available and I wrote to the hotel requesting pick-up from the airport and received a reply that they no longer offered that service. However, they did have a sign on the check-in desk still offering the service when I arrived.

Our first time in Italy/Rome. As with other reviews I read the area looked suspect when we first arrived, but I never felt any concernes for our safety after the first night. The hotel is right around the corner from the Porta Maggiore & the 105 bus taht will take you to the terminii/metro (10 min) & anywhere else you need to get. The night manager was very pleasant & helpful. (he speaks 6 languages) The room we had was a little cramped, but the bathroom was very spacious, so that evened out. The rooms were nicely furnished (contemporary), beds comfortable, traffic noise was almost unnoticeable when windows & shutters were closed. Breakfast was croissant/toast/juice & coffee. Enough to get you going in the a.m. Patio was nice to sit outside with a glass of wine & have a smoke.

unfortunately, the "only single room" is as small as a closet, on the ground floor, next to reception. No workplace, not enough room to unpack. Claustrophobic! Tiniest bathroom I've ever seen (if you sit on the toilet, your head is on the sink). Overpriced. Very poor breakfast with very bad coffee: I changed it for a simple espresso.

We had a great time in Rome. The hotel location is a bit of a walk from Termini station, but once you get there, you can take another road behind the hotel will take you to the bus stop to go to Colloseum. Totally different view. Great room for the price and you can bring your child too because they've got double bed and also singe bed in one room...Highly recommend this hotel.

I totally recommend Ducale- the only draw back is the location, but once you figure out the buses, it's not a big deal (it was a bit harder for us becuase the nearest Metro stop is currently under construction). It's a great value with a spacious room and bathroom, TV, phone, and a bit of breakfast. The other hotel we stayed at in Rome for the exact same price had literally NO amenities.

How to reach Hotel Ducale

By car
From any point of the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring-road, reachable by all highways, follow the indications to Roma centro. Then follow the directions for S. Giovanni-via Merulana. From piazza S. Giovanni in Laterano turn right onto via Carlo Felice and proceed for about 500 metres, until you reach piazza di S. Croce in Gerusalemme. Then follow via Eleniana for about 150 metres, until piazza di Porta Maggiore. Follow the road to piazzale Labicano and then turn right onto via di Porta Maggiore. The hotel is located on the first street on the right, at number 4 of via Achille Grandi.

By train
The Roma Termini railway station lies only 900 metres from the hotel (about a 10-minute walk). Exit the station on the side via Giolitti. Follow via Giolitti towards piazza di Porta Maggiore (in the opposite direction of piazza dei Cinquecento), and continue straight until the crossroad, on the right, with via Achille Grandi. Otherwise take bus number 105 for 4 stpos and get off at Porta Maggiore: the property lies 200 metres away, on via Achille Grandi.

By airplane
The Fiumicino airport is well connected to the city's centre by highway and by an express train leaving every 30 minutes for the Roma Termini railway station.
Upon leaving the airport, take the highway until the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring-road and then follow the above-said indications; otherwise you can take the train to Termini and then follow the above-said directions on how to reach the hotel from the station.

From Ciampino airport you can take the Cotral bus to Anagnina underground line A station. Take the underground (direction Battistini) and get off at Termini. From the station, take bus number 105 for 4 stpos and get off at Porta Maggiore. The hotel lies only 200 metres away.
