Hotel met our expectations in line with the majority of reviews. That is a good location, friendly staff, clean. But still I think 120 euros is too high a price for the hotel of that level. Maybe the price should be attributed to the total capital cost of living.

Very helpful staff. Convienent location, close enough to Termini to catch trains and buses but not too close, reasonable walk to most places in Rome. Nice breakfast, generally quiet (except for happy Italians singing in the shower at 5am!)

My husband and i stayed for 4 days and found the hotel very pleasant..the staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was perfect. However i was disapointed in the breakfast. For 4 mornings we were offered a cold bread roll a cold croissant and luke warm coffee and all this on a cold and frosty morning.not good.will return only if breakfast is improved.

Very good standard hotel for Italy - some reviewers obviously expect more for their money but we found it very clean, everything worked, and the desk staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely, hot tea and fresh bread rolls. Brilliant location - only 10 minute walk from Termini. From there we used bus #40 for our early morning tour of St Peter's (1 euro each and the ticket machines are easy to use) and a hop on hop off bus for the remainder of the day. I found the best map to use was the one supplied by the hotel. We felt safe the whole time and myself and my 9 yo daughter were very inexperienced travellers. Restaurant across the road about 100m on the left had authentic Italian food for reasonable prices and there were plenty more in the nearby streets. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have learned that a 4 bed room in any 2 or 3 star hotel in Italy is nothing but a two bed room with 2 extra beds added which take up whatever little space was available to beguin with. This is true for every hotel we stayed in our vacation all over Italy. Having said this, this hotel is well located, is clean, they deliver everything they promise and above all the manager (owner?) Pietro is an extremely friendly character which will make your stay memorable.

The Hotel manager speacks English and French, and is extremely friendly, including with kids. We arrived at 11000 am (had sent an email to inform of that) and were only hoping to be able to stack our baggages somewhere until the rooms would be ready, but they were available already and we could use them at once. The rooms are nice and spacious (at least the four beds room), the view is lovely, a bit noisy but that's Rome, the breakfast is neither fresh nor homemade, but it is plentiful. Overall very expensive, but again, that's Rome, and the location is terrific. We will stay here again if we come back.

We had a great time while staying at the hotel Dorica. This family run hotel is very friendly. The old couple are hilarious, extremely good natured and very helpful. While the room was sparse we were only here to sleep so it didn't bother us. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting relatively affordable accomodation, particularly when considering the location.

We stayed there for 5 days. The hotel location is very good, in the center, walking distance to subway, Termini station and most of the tourist attractions. The room we stayed in was very clean, functional Tv. Bathroom also clean, hot water non-stop, towels changed daily. Not so good thinks to say about breakfast. Poor, exactly the same every day, maybe enough for a small child, but certainly not for an adult. But besides that, everything else was alright. So, the overall impression is that we've made a good choice.

We selected the Dorica hotel for our 6-day-stay because of its location and best value for money. The hotel is small, very clean, good sized room (No 33) and the staff was very friendly, professional and helpful (ask for the restaurant around the corner called Ristorante Viminale: Good homemade food, fair prices). Our room was to the front of the building and was quite. The majority of tourist sites are within walking distance. There is a Metro stop within 5mins (Republica) and the Termini 10mins walking time. Breakfast is o.k., breads, cake, juices and coffee. We would recommend this hotel and will use again.

Highlights: (1) our view of the Piazza Viminale, with the interesting flow of professional folk to and from the imposing government building across the piazza, beautiful umbrella pines, and the stately fountain; (2)the always courteous and helpful desk staff; (3) great quiet location close to the Termini railway station and Via Nazionale.

Hotels in Rome are expensive. We selected the Dorica hotel because of its location and best value for money. We found the hotel to be old fashioned, but very clean, good size room and staff to be very professional and helpful (Giving directions, booking taxi’s etc). Our room was to the front of the building and was very quite. The majority of tourist sites are within walking distance. There is a Metro stop within 5mins (Republica) and the Termini 10mins walking time. Breakfast is simple, breads, juices and coffee. The description on the web page is accurate. I would recommend this hotel and will use again.

We received a warm welcome and the staff were generally friendly and helpful, speaking excellent English. Our room was comfortable with air conditioning and being at the back of the hotel was quiet. Breakfast was fairly minimal and only available up to 09.00, though, for our short stay this was not a problem. The position was good with most attractions within walking distance. I found the hotel expensive but in line with other similar hotels in central Rome. If visiting the Vatican museum, the queues are longest in the morning, wait until after midday.

We (husband, wife and adult daughter)stayed 4 nights in Rome in June 2006. This was our first visit to Rome so I did a lot more research on where to stay and what we might expect from Hotels. First it was a bad start because it was more difficult to find than the map suggests, this is more due to being disorientated coming out of the Termini at night rather than it being in a back street. My advice is to have a good map first not later. We chose the Dorica based on previous comments and position not on price, indeed this was one of the most expensive hotels I have ever stayed in.(based on star rating) The previous reviews prepared me somewhat but I was in shock for a few days as to what you get for your money in Rome! The rooms are small and very basic, nothing fancy here. I thought the comments about the breakfast were strange but they were spot on, every morning it was the same (see attached pictures)- plastic packed toast, bread roll, cake and cheese, quaint at first but boring after three days, however this was a common theme in Italy. I say the above for you to understand what you will get from a Hotel in Rome in the high season - expensive, basic and not much else. Having said all that our stay was pleasant, I chose the Hotel because of three reasons, 1) because it had air conditioning and was glad of that, Rome was hot (about 30 deg C) and the A/C worked perfectly. 2) because it was quiet, even though we were on the street side the windows were double glazed and we did not hear much other noise from the Hotel. 3) because of closeness to sights, we walked to and from the Termini (approx 10 - 15 mins if you don't get lost!)with our luggage, and you can easily walk to most of the major attractions (Trevi, Spanish steps, Colososeum etc) or catch one of the open top buses (5 mins walk) or walk to a metro (1o mins) I would like to add that although the breakfast was bland you do get a great cuppucino (the best we had)made on the spot but you only get one

Hotel was as described and the Staff was the most helpful of the four hotels in our trip. Breakfast was nice but the same every day. A sign to me that the staff cared about us was that our reservation was not exactly what we expected. This was corrected immediately with no delay and no problem. Be sure to have the staff explain the room key and electricy connection.

We found the Hotel Dorica a great value for Rome in high season. The room was very comfortable, the staff were always friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was always more than we could eat (but then in my mind, any time you can start the day with a cappuccino, you are already one step ahead). Light sleepers may find the piazza across the street noisy, but for us the white noise of the fountain helped drown out other noises of the city. We like to walk as much as possible to enjoy the city, so the location was excellent for all the sites in the center of Rome, including the Vatican, which is about 2 km away (but we do like walking). Metro stops are nearby, and Termini is only about a 10-15 minute walk. There are numerous restaurants, cafes and gelatarias in the neighborhood. In particular, we found a wonderful, family-run trattoria a short walk away on Via Venezia. We would gladly stay there again.

Dorica is a nice hotel with good price-performance ratio. We asked for a quiet room - and (hard to believe) we got it! Large room and bathroom, recently renovated and very clean. The hotel is very good located (5 minutes walk from termini). Most of the historic sites are within walking distance, also bus and metro stops. The staff were very polite and supportive and we got some good advice, in particular the 'Pasta love' in Via Palermo was great. We definitely recommend to stay at Dorica.

But guests cannot expect great inputs regarding sight seeing etc.The owner was very kind to me even to keep my 2 luggage for 3 nights free of charge because I was coming back to Rome to stay in the same hotel. An excellant Hotel, that the showes the owner's pride. We found him cleaning the street entrance late at night on more than one occasion during the seven nights we stayed. The price is comparable to other small hotels in large European cities. As for safety, it is located across the plaza from the National Police Headquarters. A word of advice, use the address not the web site provided map. There is an excellant resturant across the street with a friendly staff and varied menu. We ate there every night except the second night. We decided we couldn't beat the price or quality. Between the five of us we sampled almost everything on the menu from Steak to Sea Bass, Pizza and Pasta. Since I was the only one in the group that had been to Rome before, I made all the Travel arrangements and will use Venere.com for future hotel reservations in Europe.

The location was excellent (directly accross the street from the Ministry of the Interior, which was guarded 24/7 - we felt extremely safe...), perfect excessibility to ALL of the great sights. The proprietor of the establishment was a VERY helpful and sympathetic man, who warned us of certain dangers (beggers, who were skillfully trained in the art of pickpocketing), pickpockets in general, places to avoid after dark etc. He had a great sense of humour, and we felt very much at home. We would warmly recommend this hotel. Will most definately visit here again in the future!!!

Early morning check-in was handled very efficiently by the lovely Emanuela. Although our assigned room was not ready, we were shown to a bathroom where we freshened up after an overnight flight. Emanuela gave us a copy of the hotel's city map (the best) and marked out the 'must see' sights for a 2 day visit. The hotel took care of our luggage while we started our own walking tour in an unfamiliar city. Dad Pietro was very helpful in advising us not to go to Chinese restaurants in Rome! Good advice, but we wanted Roman food in Rome anyway! The central location of the hotel allowed us to walk to all the prime historic sites within minutes. On the 2nd day, we caught the subway to the Vatican. After the morning there, we walked back towards the hotel while stopping at the different attraction on the way. A wonderful 2 day stop-over in Rome. Thanks Emanuela. Thanks Pietro and Mama for the good breakfasts. Only advice I would give to visitors - wear strong supportive shoes for walking on uneven road surfaces.

Ideal hotel for exploring Rome. It faces a Piazza with a government building opposite. The only drawback is the noise from the fountain in the Piazza and cars on the road outside the hotel. I wouldnt see this as a problem unless you are a very light sleeper. The staff were very courteous and helpful. Numerous places to eat in the vicinity and only a short walk to the termini & metro.

We had a delightful stay at Dorica. Peter and his desk attendants were very helpful. Walking distance from Termini. Just go to end of bus area, turn left on Via Viminale, go to end of street, turn right and you are at Dorica. Secure area in walking distance of Santa Maria Maggiore and Santa Maria of the Angels (churches). Plenty of police around as you are in the area of the District of Security and the District of Defense. Good eating establishments in the area. Tour bus picks you up at the door of the hotel.

We enjoyed our stay very much - We were three adults in a triple room so it was a bit of a squeeze as a fold down bed is added to a double but it was very clean and comfortable and in a fantastic location, far enough away from the station area which is dodgy, but close enough to all major sites, whilst still having the advantage of a good room rate. We would definately recommend the Dorica again in the future.

The hotel was excellent and made our stay in Rome very enjoyable. The receptionist was great and gave us a good brief introduction to Rome - including how far the key sights were to walk to. We walked to most of the sights but the metro station is close by too. The free map the receptionist gave us was great and really helped us plan our trip. We could have paid for our stay by cash or credit card, but due to the excellent service we received we paid by cash as it was clearly the preferred method of payment. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and thank them for making our stay in Rome memorable.
