Nice hotel at a great price. Spacious room and bathroom. All very clean. No bells and whistles, but good all around place. Location is nice too, 3min from Termini station, with good local cafes and supermarkets nearby.

Friendly, helpful owners.Lovely breakfast every morning. We found the hotel excellent for our purposes. It is an ideal location to visit the major attractions. Bus and Metro very close by. Some good places to eat close by. Enjoyed the street market outside every morning although it may not suit those who dont want an early start.Got some great bargains.Beidhmuid ar ais arís.Go raibh maith agaibh.

As a single female traveler, I felt very safe in this hotel. The hotel staff and owners were very helpful, friendly and detail-oriented in many ways. I could count on them for a comfortable stay in Rome. There are hawkers/vendors on the street that makes noise when setting up their market at about 6:00 a.m., yet it is minor, compare to other qualities of the hotel. It's location is perfect, and in walking distance to the historic center. The bus/metro rail/high speed rail terminal is only 5 minutes away, and transportation to the airport, other cities and within Rome is super convenient. Overall, outstanding experience, and highly recommend this hotel!

Great hotel in a great location. Hotel is located about 2 minutes away from the main train station in Rome (Termini station), which made getting around so easy, especially getting to and from the airport via train with all our luggage! Hotel was nice and clean, staff were very welcoming, all spoke fluent English. Were very helpful in helping me find my way around Rome, and pointing me in the right direction for say shopping etc. Great place, highly recommend.

This hotel locates within walking distance from the Rome main train station. It occupies a portion of an old building. Once entering the building main door, walk up stair to 2nd floor to the reception. The staff is very friendly, helpful and speak English well. The room is modern decorated and clean. The only negative point is that it is located at a quiet street. It just make me feel a little nerverous to walk back to the hotel at nighttime but I did that many times anyway without any incidence. I will recommand this hotel for its cleaniness and convenient location.

The Domus employees were worth every penny spent on our room there. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We were surprised with the size of the room--it was huge! It had high ceilings, beautiful artwork, and beautiful wood floors. There were a few ants in the bathroom, and the toilet went through a couple-hour stage of not working. Still, we would stay there again in a heartbeat because of its location (five-minute walk from Termini), the size of the room (air conditioning!), and the friendliness of the staff.

Wonderful hoteliers who were welcoming. Location is a little seedy and breakfast was simple and not as expected from other comparable hotels. It was a short 4 block walk from Termine which was a plus

This is a value for money hotel. You pay less, you get less. What do you need to know about this place ? Its in a bad location. Near the terminal station. Not a delight to walk in the neighborhood at night, to say the least. There is no real benefit in being close to the terminal, if you thought that's an advantage. Buses are all over town so there is no need to sleep near the terminal station. In the mornings, the street below becomes a small flea market. Gorgeous. No, not really. The rooms: we first got the #209, which is really small and cheep-looking. Let's say that the Mrs. was really crying when she saw the room. Fortunate for us, after having trouble with the fridge we were kindly (great staff, I must say) moved to a much better room, quite large and modern, room #208 - ask for this room and the room across if you decided to go for this place after all. The breakfast is not worth waking up for. The cleanness is not too bad. Sheets are not changed every day. But listen, Rome is all about location. Most of the historic center is nice and feels safe at any hour. This location isn't worth it. So to conclude: staff is really nice. Hotel is less nice. Location is really not nice.

This was our first trip to Italy and we had no idea where to stay in Rome. Spending some time surfing around the Venere site, we selected Domus Praetoria and it turned out to be an excellent choice. On arrival at the airport, we took the train to Termini (Rome's main train station) which saved a lot of money in cabfare. Walking directions from Termini which we received from the hotel with a map were excellent. It's a 5 minute walk, about 3 short blocks. Check in was efficient and very friendly. The room and bathroom were very clean (and we're quite picky) and spacious with plenty of drawers and an armoire for our clothes. One of the 3 brothers who own the hotel, is always at the desk. The neighborhood is colorful and very safe. There is a street market with fruit, vegetables and clothing right outside the hotel most weekdays and Saturday. My husband bought a beautiful Italian shirt at less than a third the normal price. Also, there is a fabulous bakery/cafe right across from the hotel which opens very early in the morning and serves right through the day. The food is fresh and delicious with lots of variety (and not expensive). At Termini you can get the subway to go anywhere in the city and on our first day we took a hop on/hop off tour on the double decker red bus, also from Termini. Great value to see the sites, take photos and get your bearings of the city. We celebrated both our birthdays in Rome and you should try a restaurant called Constanza, recommended by one of the brothers. The food was amazing. Again, as we were leaving Rome to travel by train to Venice, it was very convenient with Termini just a few minutes away. If you return to the hotel in the evening without eating somewhere else, there are tons of little cafes around the area, where you can sit on the terrace, enjoy a good meal and watch the world go by. Breakfast was standard continental fare with wonderful cappucino. Friendly staff. We'd stay here again.

Three night stay after a week in Umbria. What a briliant little hotel! Quite quirky in that it is just part of a building and you pass through public areas to get to the rooms but very secure - all access doors controlled by surveillance cameras. Lovely room, very clean, very good condition, even a small balcony. Great staff, nice little breakfast room serving simple fayre, great location - walking distance to station and metro. Love it, love it, love it!

Big, clean rooms with a friendly staff. Despite some travel troubles, the staff went out of their way to accomodate us. The location was just blocks away from the train station, which was a big plus. However, we wished there were a few more options for dining near the hotel.

I can only describe this hotel as very good value for money. The area is handy for the station. Our room was cool (with effective a.c.) and spacious with good furnishings and bathroom equipment. Breakfast was simple but had quality in both presentation and setting. Staff were helpful and intent on providing a service. Right in the centre of things, the hotel is excellent value for money.

See all the other comments for positive feedback. I overall completely agree on this. One thing about the neighbourhood though. There is a nice little market in front of the entry, there are nice local restaurants in the area. Beware that the hotel is near the central station, so at nights it becomes a bit dodgy. But to be honest, a bum on the side of the street or someone who is selling weed... are those the dangerous people around? I don't think so.., and you see these people also around the Trevi :-) Really, give it a try!

The best of the Hotel is its location. As its websit said, 2mins from the Termini station. We almost walked everywhere from the hotel, only took subway when we went down to the Vantican. We booked a double room but was upgraded to a jounior suite. Room space was fantastic, then we also had a hall way this helped to block the noise from others who walk outside our room. We were happy with the room. The breakfast was bit too simple though, only pastries, juice, coffee, yougurts.

Stayed in Domus Praetoria in mid June.Directions via the website were spot-on.Bus from Ciampino left us at the end of Via Millazo and it was a two minute walk to the hotel. After being buzzed in you take the steps on your right marked with a B.A sharp left turn will bring you to reception. We met the brothers over the course of four days and they were very accomodating with any queries we had.Would go back in a heartbeat.

The hotel is quite good: clean and rooms are spacious enough for 2star Italian hotel. It is really very close to Termini station - so it is very convenient for the short stay if you plan to travel by train. But Termini district is not very pleasent and late in the evening could be even unsafe. So I do not recomment to book the hotel in this district for the long stay.

Domus Praetoria is a great hotel. It is located in a rather unappealing neighborhood but is convenient to Stazione Termini and all transportation. It offers great value with large, quiet, comfortable, nicely appointed rooms. Everything was immaculately clean. The Continental- style breakfast is adequate, a typical Italian breakfast with juice, pastries and delicious coffee. The best thing about the place is the management. The manager was a lovely man, very gracious, kind and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to almost anyone, especially anyone seeking an outstanding bargain.

We booked this hotel last minute (really day of) as we were traveling around Italy. Hotel Domus Praetoria was very hospitable and secure. Once checked in we went to shower and found we had no hot water, within 5 minutes of calling the front desk, they had someone up to fix the problem (which they did fix immediately). The room was huge as was the bathroom. Our windows looked out into a very quiet courtyard. My parents were on the otherside of the building with a street view, but said their room was absolutely silent once they closed the windows, which was a major plus. The breakfast was fresh and coffee was good. We were able to leave our luggage as we toured about Rome for the day and the hotel was gracious enough to call us a cab to head to the airport. Fantastic service, breakfast and people!

A bit hard to find, because no hotel sign on the outside or even inside the building. More like a B&B than a hotel with a reception downstairs. Family-run with warm welcome. Rooms not overly large or stylish, but adequate. Good location, close to Termini and various good restaurants. Had a very quiet room facing interior court.

We had a great stay at this hotel. The staff was both helpful and friendly and was always willing to help us with directions and answer any questions. I recommend this hotel not only for the friendliness of the staff but also for its location to Termini. There is an open market held on the same street which makes it convenient for those who are looking for souvenirs at a good price. Compared to how other hotels are priced, the value was excellent.

We stayed for a long weekend in the middle of Nov 08. The hotel is very close to Metro Station C. Pretorio, Line B (just 5 minutes walking) Specifically handy as it is just one station away from Roma Termini, where the Leonardo Express stops. The hotel is a bit hidden, as the entrance looks like a regular house, so you need to really watch out for teh house numbers. The staff is very welcoming, I received a map and a business card from the hotel and was encouragned to call in case I had any problems or difficulties during the days, which I found was such a lovely touch! The rooms are a decent size, quiet, the bathroom spotless and the bed very comfortable. I was a little bit cold at night, as the blanket was quite thin. I am sure they would have given me a thicker blanket if I had asked, but I forgot it after an exhausting, all-day-walking in lovely Rome :) There was a little street market on Monday morning, which was lovely as well. If you are looking for a good place to eat around there, look for the street when you step out of the Metro - called, Via San Martino della Battaglia, there is a youthhostel, their restaurant is called something like Lemon...opposite that place is a litte Trattoria. We had dinner there one night and it was lovely and can be recommended.

A really nice, friendly, family run hotel. We had a lovely spacious room with a view to a nice quiet courtyard. The room had modern features but retained a victorian charm. The hotel is a 5 min walk from Termini, which is handy for transport. It's not a fancy area but we never felt unsafe. There is a launderette and a bakers nearby. The hotel is very secure, with 24hr reception. The hotel is in a building shared with other apartments and you have to buzz to be let in. Once you get used to this it's not a problem. The hotel is located a few blocks from Termini and yet its prices are very good. The area is a little run down, but that makes the quality of the rooms all the more surprising. The hotel occupies parts of two floors in a late nineteenth century building that can best be called non-descript. There is no sign for the hotel except on the doorbell. The door is electronically unlocked after the bell is rung. The staff was always quite genuinely friendly and helpful. The room was unexpectedly roomy. The bathroom was large and recently renovated. The one problem with the bathroom was the lack of shelf space, something that concerned my wife. However, overall we had a an excellent stay and plan to use the hotel again in the future.

We have been in the hotel for the first time now in June 08 and we would reccomend everyone who visit Rome to stay here. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean. Station Termini is practically 2min by foot and you can go from this station to visit every monument. The are only two metro lines and you can easily organize whole day of sightseeing without a lot of stress. We were very pleased to choose this hotel and we will come back as soon as possible.

I think we were upgraded to a larger room which was great. The room was huge and overlooked a quiet courtyard. The hotel itself was close to the station but at the quiet end of the street. We were not disturbed by noise at all at night. The reception staff were very helpful giving us directions, booking restaurants, the offer to use their computer as the rooms didnt have internet access, and excellent directions for getting out of rome in our hire car! Breakfast was bread rolls with jam (no meats or cheese), pastries and yogurt....we stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay there...I liked being close to the station and dont mind walking to the main attractions..

Great hotel with friendly staff. We were quite happy with the neighbourhood. Though it is a bit off the "tourist track" it was easy to get to everything via the bus and the metro which are nearby. There is a market most mornings in the street which was handy for getting fresh fruit etc. The last time I was in that neighbourhood it was a bit dodgy, it is now much cleaner and being gentrified. The only complaint overall was that we had the windows open to the courtyard which was a bit noisy in the mornings. Not a big deal.

We have stayed here several times now and are always very happy with the accommodation and service. Great location - very convenient to Roma Termini train station, and good security, quiet area, clean rooms and friendly staff. You can definately get cheaper accommodation in the same general area, but it may be in a more noisy location or perhaps not as secure.

Very nice and quite hotel near the Termini station (very good place to be, as you can go everywhere with buses and metro from Termini). Very friendly and helpful staff ! It will be the hotel for my next Rome trip!

The owners are brothers who are VERY fluent in English and VERY helpful. They walk you through the best of the city and are extraordinarily helpful making reservations and the like. They're great. No internet access, but they allowed us to use their computer no problem to print boarding passes and such. A *bit* pricey considering there are dirt cheap hostels nearby, but it's in walking distance from Termini (< 5 minute walk; can be done with suitcases, no problem) and so really close to everything. Again, such nice guys--very very helpful. Just a bit pricey.

The Domus Praetoria is kind of difficult to find. It´s like a shared building. Super small elevator but works great. Fully air conditioned, staff willing to help you in anything you need, directions, etc. Very important, if you´re driving there´s a small parking lot in front of the hotel, don´t hesitate to leave them your car keys, is safe. Everyday there´s a market just outside the hotel, 2 blocks from the metro station. A little bit shady the neighborhood but very good restaurants around the hotel. Good option!

We chose this hotel for our 3-day trip to rome because of it's proximity to the train station (Termini). We found the hotel clean, comfortable and the staff was very friendly (english and german correspondence possible). There are several security installations: CCTV cameras, a safe provided in the room and electronic access to the block itself (partly residential). That gave us a good, secure feeling every moment. It was a short and easy walk to Termini station, and we took the Subway to the downtown sights (Pantheon, Colosseum, Trevi fountain, etc) very easily from there. Almost every bus drives by Termini. The only little thing that could be better was, that our room was a little bit small according to the price we paid and the view was uninspiring (backyard). We surely will again visit rome (fabulous city) and surely will stay at this hotel.

Hotel room was very clean and exactly as shown on the website. Very close to termini station so extremely convenient if you are arriving/leaving by train. Fair breakfast, nothing fancy, super nice lady serving it. Front desk staff courteous and helpful, good English. No problem with colorful people hanging out outside train station. Great value for the money.

If you look for convenience ( near metro, bus and train ), space ( room and bathroom ), cortesy and price, this is your hotel. The hotel surroundings arent exactly beautifull, but its fine if you went to hotel before night.

My sister and I stayed here for two nights April 26 & 27, 2008. We chose this hotel for it's proximity to the train station. We found the hotel clean, comfortable, staff friendly enough and the breakfast quite nice. The location of Domus Praetoria, near the train station, really worked well for us as this was our third trip together in Rome and we have seen all of the "must sees" on previous visits.

We have visited Rome many times, and this small, clean hotel is not only conveniently located within a few blocks of the main train station, but the rooms are more spacious than most. The decor is not glitzy or designer, but neither is it gloomy, as so many are in that area. Attached bathroom was equipped with all modern conveniences. A friendly, helpful staff was on hand 24 hours. A daily market takes place in the street in front of the hotel. The sign outside was very small and unassuming, but it was easy to locate the address on a map. It was an enjoyable stay, and we would definitely recommend it.

This property hits the sweet spot for price, value and location. Here are the four things you will love about this hotel. 1) The rooms are very reasonably priced, quite, clean, and spacious. 2)There is an open air market on the street directly outside the hotel selling fruits, vegetables and clothes. We began each day buying fresh fruit which we brought back into the hotel to clean and have with our breakfast. There is a small breakfast area adjacent to the front desk serving croissants, juice and coffee each day. Not to mention, we ran the clothes that we bought at a great price up to the room and didn't have to lug them around all day. 3) The hotel is within a 5-10 minute walk of the Termini Station. This will save critical time that can be devoted to sightseeing. More importantly, you will appreciate the convenient location even more when you see the countless people pulling their luggage around town, exhausted and dripping with sweat trying to get to their hotels. 4)The staff is attentive and polite. Even though there is usually only one person on duty, you can always expect personalised service. We would unquestionably recommend this hotel to others and, when back in Rome, this will be our first choice. Ciao.

We stayed on two ocassions in April, once for 1 night and again for 3 nights later in the month. The first room was small and the view uninspiring. The second stay we had a bigger room at the rear with a similar view. The hotel needs to show more attention to detail as there was mould in the bath/shower area and the towels were frayed at the end and very thin. This was not the case when we stayed 2 years ago. It would appear there had been some painting done as there were large marks of paint on the wooden floor. The breakfast was average and did not provide cheese or any kinds of meats. The service given by the staff was great and they could not have been more helpful. We ate twice at a newly established restaurant around the corner which was recommended by the manager and were not disappointed. (Meid in Naples) We also ate at a Trattoria at the bottom end of the street also around the corner which was also very good.

We were somewhat surprised to find a small outdoor market RIGHT outside the hotel, thinking our room might not be quite. Not so! Our room was VERY quiet. This is not a beautiful place on the outside, but on the inside, wonderful! Clean, quiet, safe, attentive staff; we will return, we hope! The ONLY thing I would do to improve it would be to offer cold cereal and milk to the breakfast. The fresh rolls, croissants, cappuccinos, etc. were lovely, but we're probably not the only visitors that would like cereal for breakfast. The staff was SO nice they might have gotten it for us had we asked.

Very friendly brothers at the front desk who speak terrific English, gave a great restaurant recommendation right around the corner. Excellent pastry shop right up the street. Very nice furnishings in the rooms, great bathroom. The best hotel I stayed in on the whole trip. And the only one with an elevator which was a godsend after hiking through Rome all day. Very close to the train station, metro station, bus station. You can get anywhere from here very easily. Great value for the money.

This hotel is a real find. It's in a most convenient area (5 minutes from Termini rail and bus stations) with plenty of places to eat well-priced good food nearby. Rooms are super-clean and well-furnished, staff are pleasant, helpful and efficient. Good heating and lashings of hot water (I assume the air con is equally efficient). Rooms are on the second floor (there is a lift, but people with mobility problems might find the three steps up to Reception difficult) and security is excellent: CCTV cameras and electronic access to the block itself (partly residential), Reception and the hotel room area. Rooms at the back overlook an almost-silent courtyard, but the road is not busy and the double glazing would, I think, ensure that rooms at the front were very quiet. Although it doesn't look particularly wonderful the area is, in fact, perfectly safe; there is a Carabinieri station a couple of doors away. Breakfast includes fresh rolls and pastries, not the pre-packaged factory-produced stuff one so often gets elsewhere. This is by far the best-value Rome hotel I have stayed in, and I will certainly return. Highly recommmended. To find it: walk down Via Milazzo from Termini almost to the end. The Hotel is in a block on your left: look for the named buzzer and buzz it to get in.

I came to visit Rome for the first time in spring 2008. The hotel was an excellent choice! Close to Termini and all means of transport, but tucked at the end of Via Milazzo, so it is quiet and peaceful location. Everything there was new and clean; big mirrors made this really small room looking much bigger. There was no noise from the street or other rooms; and it was warm in the room. There are plenty of places to eat around (touristic, but if you are hungry NOW... ;)) Staff was helpful with all information, breakfast basic but nice. The only disadvantage is no electric socket in the bathroom and absolutely no shelves there to put your cosmetics. An the size of the room... I had it as a single room but I am not sure how 2 people can fit there ;)

We were staying in Rome just one night and chose this hotel because it was close to the train station - about 4 blocks. We arrived very early - 9:30 am - and simply hoped to be able to deposit our bags and come back later to check in, but to our surprise our room was ready and we were allowed to check in. Both the room and the bathroom were large - a rarity in Rome - and they were both spotless. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good with selections of yogurt, rolls, coffee, and juice. Breakfast is now offered in a room just off the lobby area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a clean, quiet room.
