Hotel Domus Aventina - Rome

BREAKFAST : ALWAYS SAME, no fresh fruit, bad localization into hotel - Very nice room with balcon - But quite noisy : possible to hear conversation from other room

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the Hotel Domus Aventina on the Aventine Hill in Rome. It is just outside the Centro Storico in a quiet, leafy neighborhood, but accessible to the buses and Linea B of the Metro. From here you could walk to Pyramide, Testaccio, Circo Massimo, Palatino, and other sites on the west side of Rome. If you are tired of the crowds and traffic in the Centro, this is the place to stay.

We much enjoyed our stay. All staff we met were friendly and obliging. The hotel was pleasantly quiet apart from the air conditioning in our room. Breakfast a little on the meagre side. The roof terrace was closed (a pity) and we were unsure whether the courtyard was accessible. Beware: no lift.

Excellent location. Low quality of service at breafast time on Sundays.

Highly recommend. My room was enormous, but the shower was a little small. I find it just right for my size, and I'm 130lb and 5'9". Everything else was great including the breakfast. Love the complimentary shoe shine bar in with the shampoo. Oh, no elevators, so ask for ground floor if you have heavy luggage.

The hotel was clean and well-kept. The staff spoke excellent English and was uniformly helpful except for one desk clerk who mistakenly told me my laundry would be ready in one day when, in fact, it would not be returned until after my weekend check-out. Breakfast was very good. The single room was tiny and not really practical for anything but sleeping. The TV sat on the desk and made it impossible to use the desk at all. The bathroom was so small that one had to move around sideways (not uncommon in Italy or unique to Domus Aventina). The neighborhood is lovely but is residential and does not feature an abundance of good restaurants within close walking distance. All in all, it was a good hotel.

Rooms both had a bad odor all the time. They were very old looking. THe internet worked poorly.

Nice hotel in a very beautiful and quite residential area, full of green gardens and parks. Ten minutes walk to Testaccio area and fifteen minutes to Trastevere. Close to Roman Forum and easily accessed by bus or Metro (M station 5-7 min from the hotel). Our room was facing a beautiful backyard with lots of trees. The first room we were given was spacious but without any view, but hotel staff was willing to change it. Overall, a very pleasant hotel to stay, especially in the Spring time

Wir hatten ein Doppel- und ein Einzelzimmer gebucht. Das Doppelzimmer war super, das Einzelzimmer aber war relativ klein und hatte nur ein Fenster zu einem größeren Lichtschacht, was etwas schade war. Wer in Rom eine ruhige, aber dennoch zentrale Lage sucht, ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben. Auch das Parken des Autos ist unproblematisch.

A very welcoming, friendly, clean hotel. Room very small (a little over 2 m in width by ? 4 m), and the smallest hotel room I've been in for the last 15 hotels in Europe (over last 12 months), but extremely clean, well done in terms of fixtures and decorations, and 'modern'. Good for one night, although not for working as little space. They forgot to mention on web site that they DO have wireless free internet access which is handy. I do know there are many other rooms at this hotel, of different sizes, I was in the smallest, but still would be happy to return.

Une excellente adresse sur Rome. Un emplacement ideal sur l'Aventino une des rares zones vertes de rome à 3 minutes à pied du Circo Marcello, 15 minutes de trastevere à pied, 10 minutes de la bocca della verita. Des chambres spacieuses et calme, propres et bien équipées (climatisation discrete mais efficace) ; un service discret et efficace. Une rareté pour Rome et une adresse à conseillée.

Our air conditioner was so loud that we could not sleep the first night. the room was super small, not like the photos suggested. carpeting was very old

Clean comfortable good sized rooms at a sensible price. We booked 2 rooms for a family of 6 - the smaller room was a good size, the larger room on top floor was generous. A quiet location close to Circo Massimo. The area felt secure and no worries with cheap and easy on-street car parking. I would happily return with family or as a couple.

Breakfast was excellent, and the service was first class. A lovely little hotel. I would recommend it.

The staff was welcoming and accomodating. Had no problems during my stay there.

Il prezzo è troppo alto per un albergo cosi' lontano dal centro. Ho speso di meno in alberghi a 4 stelle centralissimi.

I would stay there again, but, feel they should know the quality of the beverages (coffee, tea & juices) at breakfast was very poor. Otherwise our stay was very satisfactory.

Great location if attending FAO meeting, as I was. VERY helpful and knowledgeable staff - where to shop, resteraunts to go to, etc.. Nice fresh-baked pasteries at morning breakfast - blood orange juice a real plus! Near taxi stand which was useful as it rained a LOT. Only negative, no computer available, but did have access in room if you had laptop. Will stay AGAIN when in Roma.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Domus Aventino. The area around the hotel is tree lined, quiet residential with several parks and a very atmospheris pedestrian cobbled land nearby that leads to the Tiber. Bus stop was a block away. A small, but welcoming grocery store wa two blocks away. Out room included a provate patio overlooking the quiet courtyard of the neighboring church. Breakfast was good and staff was friendly. Only begatives were due to the fact that the rooftop patio was closed for repairs and that the nearby Rose Garden was cvlosed for several months from summer into the autumn. We'd definitely stay here again.

Driving into Rome for the first time, finding the hotel was quite an adventure, but once we arrived everything met with our expectations, including the free parking in front of the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful; breakfast is well above average. Our rooms were located on the third floor, and with no elevator, we found it best to plan day trips, to minimize too many returns to our rooms. This was not helped by the location of the hotel at the top of a steep hill. The hotel itself is within walking distance to the Colosseum and many other interesting sites. All in all we found Domus Aventino very pleasant and great value for the price. Would definately stay there again.

We stayed for two nights in August. The rate was very reasonable, the breakfast was fine, service was very good, and the rooms were spacious. We were allowed to park our hire car right outside the hotel which was helpful. We walked to the Coloseum, and used the underground to get to the Vatican.

Nice, quiet hotel in nice surroundings. Very spacious and clean rooms with balconies on the inner courtyard. Courtyard and roof terrace not accessible. Breakfast buffet a bit on the lean side, but good coffee is all one really needs. Walking distance from Colosseum, Forum and old town. Easy bus connection with Vatican. Punctual pick-up service from Fiumicino.

Excellent location within walking distance of the pyramid, roman walls, collisium and circus maximus---lower rooms offer interior balconies looking onto ots of orange trees and flowers. Lavish continental breakfast, eggs and fresh squeezed blood orange juice among offerings and a cappuccino machine! Huge rooms! larger than expected bathroom! But no elevator and the soundproof rooms still though great for blocking out street and traffic noise still allow church bells tolling at 8am to be heard quite clearly. Markets and cafes are at least 10 minute walk away. Too bad they don't rearrange the rooms adding an additonal double bed to the queen size and pull out-so families with 3 children could stay.

Desk staff varied in helpfulness. Evidently a number of official travelers stay here. Good value for money in the horribly overinflated market that is Rome these days. Rooms were nice, if a bit shop worn. Bath was clean and well appointed. A pleasant thing getting both BBC and CNN European in English on the tele. Interesting twist, for us, was the room electric being shut off until a room card inserted in a governing box. Never saw that before and the desk staff didn't seem to think it important to tell us. So we fumbled around in complete dark trying to find lights to turn on so we could see to enter. We gather this is not uncommon in Europe these days, but didn't encounter it in Umbria or Tuscany. Should have thought a hotel that's used to international travel would remember that one. Convenient limo access to airport, though the driver from airport to town picked up from train station info window cost 15 euro/person, while the return from Domus came through at 45 euro for two. Pleasant, rather expensive restaurant around the corner that specializes in sea food antepasto and entrees. Good farewell meal to Italy.

The Domus Aventina Hotel was exactly what I wanted for my stay in Rome. The employees were very friendly and helpful; the room was spacious and clean; and the "neighborhood ambience" was very nice.

Hotel is in a quiet residential area very near to centre. Easy parking (free). Tried 3 different rooms (some have balcony or terrace). One room was completely infested with ants and when told to reception, the answer was that we could only change room the next day (even though hotel was not full) and that the only spray they had was too toxic for us to stay in the room (would imply that ants are a regular problem that requires a toxic spray). After changing rooms 3 times in 3 days, finally found a room on the 2nd floor was was spacious, clean and had a balcony looking onto a lovely old church. That said, hotels in Rome are usually always patchy and inconsistent in quality and much depends on the room they give you.

No parking available and no internet connexion available. The air conditioner broke off and has not been repaired

Das frühstücksbuffet ist die untere grenze, die man noch buffet nennen kann, aber das hotel ansich und insbesondere die lage des hotels in rom sind unübertroffen; absolut ruhige grünlage und kurze wege zu bus und ubahn und zu fuß kein problem zum kolosseum, palatin forum romanum, etc.;

La tapezzeria delle camere va rifatta. Il giardino e la terrazza dovrebbero essere tenuti meglio e resi usufruibili.

Great location, quiet and convenient; great rooms; good breakfast.

This is a beautiful clean hotel in an outstanding location, but... ...it is overpriced, so much so that almost all rooms were empty during most of my stay. The single room was an old linen closet and should not have been offered for over 100 Euros. The double room was spacious, but in spite of paying a premium for it, they put me in a room without a balcony, while two entire floors of rooms with balconies remained empty. Laundry service was so slow as to be useless--I carried my clean laundry home with me.

This hotel is located in a quiet and beautiful neighborhood and I had high expectations about enjoying their terrace which is said to have a great view. It was closed even though the weather was beautiful. For rooms without balconies, there is no other outside sitting. Also, brochure says "all" rooms look out on the neighboring church courtyard -- mine was on an air shaft, apparently because I wanted a quiet room. Their was no external noise in the hotel, however, there was little if any soundproofing between my room and the next. I heard everything going in the next room. The sound from the TV in the next room was so loud that I had to turn up my TV to hear it. When noise occurred in middle of night, front desk asked them to be quiet and they were. I had believed their brochure which says that the rooms are all soundproofed! Although my room was small, others I saw were larger. Breakfast was good. Uniquely in their price range, they had bloodorange juice, as well as regular orange juice.

A comfortable, welcoming hotel in a peaceful area near to the centre.

We used to live on Via Aventina, so this was an excellent position for us to visit our old haunts. The only thing we didn't like about our visit was the rain, but there is nothing you could do about that. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay.

Nice rooms but a fairly no-frills hotel. Breakfast buffet is average and is reasonably well located for transport access to the rest of the city. I did have some trouble on checking out when I was initially charged 70 Euros per night more than I was quoted, but this was resolved in my favour when I produced a printout of the booking confirmation email.

The hotel was away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist areas of Rome, but still within easy reach by walking/metro/tram. Several restaurants within walking distance and pleasant surroundings. An excellent place to stay, though mention should be made that no lift and slight incline to entrance of hotel make is unsuitable for anyone with difficulty walking.

We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast offered each morning was very nice as was the atmosphere of the breakfast room. Our evening manager was the best! He went out of his way to be helpful (especially for late night pizza orders!). The only negative to report was the courtesy shuttle ride from the airport. The driver wasn't the least bit friendly and didn't waste his time with pleasantries of any kind. Also, the location of the hotel was wonderful! It was a 10 minute walk to the Forum and the collesseum and the subway(which we all found to be the best way to get around Rome). We would return to the Domus Aventina.

This was a lovely spot to be in Rome. All of us are walkers so we were able to walk to all of the central Rome sights including the Vatican and the Spanish Steppes! The rooms were comfortable and clean and well air-conditioned. We were situated on the first floor and had a wonderful patio facing a cloistered garden. The hotel is located in the Aventine hills in a very up-scale neighborhood. It was clean, quiet and safe and as indicated before was within walking distance to the Forum, Colisseum, Calacalla's Bath.

Although perhaps a little soulless, the hotel is clean and the bedrooms are large and comfortable. The location makes for something of a trek into the centre of town but at least this enables large dinners to be walked off! Staff were friendly and helpful.

A great place to stay, and very helpful staff.

Our second stay and we would go back again. Benefit of a quiet but still convenient location. The Aventine Hill itself is generally overlooked by visitors and is worth exploring for the three ancient churches. Large rooms (for Rome) and one of the better continental breakfasts.

A stylish, well-run, very quiet hotel in a pleasant suburb - a nice escape from the busy centre of town. Staff are most helpful and professional. Good local facilities but many close during August. Our room (on the ground floor) had a lovely terrace overlooking the garden. There is no bar (only a minibar in the room) - in spite of what is advertised!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We especially enjoyed the restaurant recommended to us - authentic and quaint. The location was super, accessable to everything. Our window overlooked the charming garden of the church next door. We have recommended this hotel to our friends, and will be sure to stay again when we come back to Rome. Thank you!
