The rooms were very small for Rome. The carpets in the rooms were filthy! There was no luggage rack in our room so we had to put our suitcases on the table and floor. There is no air conditoning - only fans in the rooms. There were three different men working the reception desk. Roberto was the only one who was polite and helpful. It cost 60 Euros for a car to the airport.

This is a very good hotel in an excellent location. My only complaint is that it is not 300m from the metro station as indicated on your web site but closer to 900m (I paced the distance). We will defintely recommend this hotel to our friends.

We enjoyed our stay at the Diplomatic. It was in close proximity to the major sites we wanted to see as in we could walk. The staff was pleasant and our room was satisfactory. However the cost was somewhat high compared to the US but with the US Dollar vs. the Euro you have to exptect that.

We particularly enjoyed the breakfast - which set us up well every morning. Only quibble on service was that it wasnt possible to control the temperature in the room except by opening the balcony doors..

Hotel doors are right in front of a hop-on, hop-off bus. Its also a 10 minute walk to via de condotti which is a great start if first time in rome, you also hit the spanish steps by the end of the street. Rome is easy to get around once you get "climatized" to the people, pace and have arrived. Hotel Diplomatic had respectable rooms, clean space and marble finished toilets. The breakfast buffet was also quite satisfactory considering rome. The price on venere was much lower than the usual price of the hotel, as it did feel worth more than 90eur. As we decided to extend a night, they conveniently booked and transferred all are stuff to a sister hotel, located outside of the city center but was quite comfy. Great staff, overall, a good hotel and possibly sister hotels are same level.

A good value solid 3-star hotel in a good location, walking distance to most of the sights. If you're travelling further across the city - to Coliseum or Ciampino - use the metro. The nearest metro station is only 10 mins walk and it's cheap and easy. Nice bathrooms and decent clean rooms. We had 2 rooms overlooking internal courtyard but street-facing rooms may not be so quiet.

Difficult survey - we were moved from Diplomatic to Valadier (sister hotel) which was 4* and more central. However, they did not have enough rooms of the size we booked at Diplomatic, and the small one was ridiculous - managed to move next night, but not happy. Bar, etc was VERY expensive, but otherw ise very good.

The breakfast room staff were very good although the breakfast itself was dull. I thought at least in June it would be possible to have fresh fruit - instead we got tinned peaches and tinned fruit cocktail. Disappointing. The bedroom was fine and very quiet. There was no foyer or lounge to sit in or have a drink before before retiring to your bedroom. The reception staff were disinterested and unhelpful except when trying to encourage us to use their expensive taxi company to leave for the airport. Location great.

Regarding the service we have to admit that the service for breakfast was quite poor. Every morning (5x) we had to wait quite a long time to get some coffee, most time no plates were available, it took quite a long time to fill up bread/cheese/salami etc. The ladies were evidently overstrained and badly organised. Besides that everything was fine, especially service and politeness at the reception.

During our stay, there was a burglary in our room. In that night, we waited for the check by police until 1:00 AM. We asked to change our room because the window was broken, but we were obliged to remain in the same room. At last we had to pay the entire rate of the hotel, however we asked a reduction of the price for the inconvenient we had.

The situation of the hotel is fantastic as it is walking distance to all the places of interest. We literally walked all over Rome. Best to avoid sleeping there on a Saturday night (unless you are guaranteed to be given a room at the back of the hotel)as the noise from the street is unbearable. There is no problem during the rest of the week.

I HAVE STAYED IN ROME ON MANY OCCASIONS, THE HOTEL DIPLOMATIC IS A TYPICAL ROMAN HOTEL, SMALL,COMFORTABLE AND QUITE EXPENSIVE.THE ROOMS WERE CLEAN AND WELL PRESENTED. My wife and I enjoyed our 3 night B&B stay. Rome (cf London) is compact and the hotel is positioned whereby all tourist sites are walkable. Staff were good and helpful. Previous reviews were accurate and therefore there were no surprises. The good news was that there was no disco. The 70 bus provided us with transport to train.

The hotel is in a perfect position for visiting the city. Just outside the hotel there is a bus stop for the centre. The breakfast is good and the room is confortable with a lot of place for clothes. The bathrom is not very large but good enough, except for a bad smell, probably due to the near tevere river.

Rooms are very pleasant. Bus stop right in front of hotel makes going to places of interest very convenient. Breakfast was adequate but options were boring. Distance to Vatican was misrepresented. Literature claims 5 minute walk-- in truth it's much farther. Sadly only one computer for all guests, and internet fees were exorbitant. Internet access in room (wireless or wired) would have made our stay more pleasant.

We enjoyed our staff at the Hotel Diplomatic. The staff was very helful when we had questions and they made our train reservations for a small fee, but worth it. We needed an interperter to help us with relatives that spoke Italian and didn't understand English. The staff was willing to help us. The rooms were spacious for a family of three adults. The location was perfect and we were able to walk to most of the attractions.

No volveré

The concierge and staff were extremely helpful with city info, baggage, room prep--for 3, and parking garage was a plus. Although Rome hotels are overpriced, the "luxury" of this hotel was to have the pay parking garage, bus stop across the street, and several great trattorias and restaurants next door. All these things made the Diplomatic worth the higher price. It is not for the budget traveler however.

Hotel Diplomatic is located in walking distance to all the major archeo and historic attractions in Rome. You can easily walk to St. Peters, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon. Buses stop directly in front of the hotel. The service and breakfast were good and the room was clean. The air conditioning did not function. The nearby restaurants were not especially good but there are plenty of better ones just a few blocks across the Tiber.

Claudio and his crew are wonderful -- they gave us good guidance as to restaurants, shopping, gretting around, etc. We were made extremely welcome. Rome is expensive, but the hotel is worth the price. Easy walk to San Pietro, San Angelo, and about a 10 minute taxi/bus ride to Spanish Steps and the Forum, Colisseum, etc. The neighborhood of the hotel feels safe. One quick idea -- they should give walking directions from the Metro stop (Lepanto). It's only 5 minutes walk, but there are two Via Colonna in the same neighborhood which is confusing. I look forward to staying there again.

The two best things about this hotel are the location and the desk staff. The location was very convenient to walk to many of the sites of Rome. The desk staff spoke very good English, and was already ready with a map and excellent directions. The area for improvement deals with the noise in the room-from the outside hall and adjoining rooms, and the disco located near the right side of the building.

Diplomat was perfect for us and the right price. The location can't be beat-- in a very nice area within walking distance or a short taxi drive to everything we needed & wanted to do/see in Rome. It is minutes from St. Peters & the Vatican, easy to find & easy to return to after an exhaustive day of touring. The staff was very efficient & accomodating. The evening desk man "Armando" was right on with his evening dining recommendations. The only negative item was the roof top dinig pictured on the website was actually located at a related proprty in the Piazza del Popolo area, not at the Diplomat. We had lunch ther, which was good, but pricey. I highly recommend this hotel for the price, location, convenience & helpful staff. We were 2 couples and one adult child.

I spent 2 weeks at Hotel Diplomatic in August 2005, and I had a very pleasant stay. It was nice and clean and the room I got was a double even though I booked a single - BIG PLUSS!!! The staff was nice and welcoming, and the location is superb!!! I've been to Rome a couple of times before, but this is by far the best hotel I've stayed in. Nicely located a short and easy walk to the Vatican and Vatican Museums, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. Room was basic and comfortable although it did have a non-descript odor - perhaps some type of deodorizer to cover the odor of smoke from previous occupants. The air conditioning provided some relief but left the room humid and feeling a bit damp. Lighting, while present was a bit darker than expected. Breakfast was pleasant and plentiful. All items were fresh and delicious and the service staff made for a pleasant start to the morning. All in all, I would consider this hotel again for a short term stay (1 or 2 nights) but not for anything longer.

We were very pleased with our stay. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was small but more than adequate for two -- very nice bathroom. The location was perfect for us, very close to the Vatican and not too far to walk to other major tourist areas (I wouldn't call it steps from the Spanish Steps, but a reasonable walk). All in all, I would recommend it as a very good value for the money.

A group of five Dane families were staying 8 days at Hotel Diplomatic the first week of March 2005. The trip was booked over the internet considering price and location and Hotel Diplomatic was the best price/location at the time. Just before arrival I checked and it still was. The three star Hotel is renovated a few years ago and the bathrooms lived up to Scandinavian standards. We had a double and a triple room, at the triple was the most spacious room in the hotel. The rooms were cleaned everyday and the international breakfast was excellent and nourishing with a range of cereals and fruit with a friendly and obliging staff. A little tip by your departure is expected at breakfast and in your room. The Diplomatic hotel is located 10 minutes walking distance to the Vatican and Pz. Navona. You can simply walk to everything and if you are tired take the bus back for 1 euro. A local supermarket is just around the corner of the Police station at Pz. Cavour. The local restaurants Vito have great steaks and Clock just opposite the Diplomatic have genuine Italian food made from scratch and a bakery/coffee house at the end of the street overlooking the Tiber was fantastic. I and my family had a wonderful week.

Even if the entry and the reception are so restricted that one not have an immediate good impression, the hotel is pleasant whit nice breakfast room and good public areas. Our family room was a real junior suite, quiet and spacious. The bathroom was large and provided with all comforts. The continental breakfast is rich and sufficiently various (that is not so frequent in Italian three stars hotels). Finally, hotel services are good and all employees nice and ready to give all information to visit the city. I surely suggest this nice hotel, sufficiently chip and close to Rome centre (10 minutes to Piazza Navona)

Stayed for 4 days, hotel well situated in between Vatican and Spanish Steps. All staff friendly and welcoming and a good breakfast provided. Outside the hotel are various bus stops, very handy for the traveller. Really enjoyed our stay and will return back to the Diplomatic.

Helpfull employees, and a nice breakfast area in the backyard with very good service. (Included in the price!) I stayed 4 days with my daugther, (7 years), and we both agree that we had a very pleasant stay!
