The hotel Del Gianicolo is a luxurious Rome retreat that enjoys a truly stunning location. The road leading to the hotel winds its way along the crest of the Gianicolo hill, shaded by splendid umbrella pines. It is lined by busts of Garibaldi's men and a monument of Garibaldi himself, followed by that of his wife Anita.

Furthermore, along the walk you may admire breathtaking views over Rome: from Villa Medici to San Giovanni in Laterano and, in the distance, the hills of Albano.

The midday cannon is fired daily below the parapet. Further ahead there is an old stump; here once stood the oak tree beneath which Tasso used to sit.

From here as well, you may glimpse spectacular views of Rome: Castel Sant'Angelo, the Dome of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini, the Dome of San Carlo al Corso, Trinità dei Monti, the Quirinal Palace, the Pantheon, the Dome of Sant'Andrea della Valle with the lower dome of the Church of Jesus.

In addition, guests can see the Militia Tower, with the monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, and the flat façade of Santa Maria dell'Aracoeli.

The hotel offers a very professional service and a wide range of amenities, such as an Internet Point in the lobby, to make every stay a wonderful experience.

Had our second stay at this fantastic hotel. We first got a very, very small room with no view. We asked if it was possible to change rooms, and we got the largest room in the hotel with a fantastic view. Helpful and very nice staff. When in Rome, we will stay at this hotel! No other!

The room was very noisy (a lot of traffic); the shower was not very clean. Nothing was ready for a quiet breakfast at 9 o'clock : lot of people, the table were not cleared : you have to wait, after, there is no coffee ready, no spoon... Priority to the tour operator groups. welcoming very impersonal, border haughty !

We chose Hotel Del Gianicolo for a weeks stay in Rome due to it's location in the Trastevere location and it's great bars and restaraunts. It was further than it appears on a map as it on top of a huge hill, however the bus service and taxis didn't make this terribly invoneient. The Hotel's own website shows the hotel in a very flattering light, however the stay was not unpleasant. The hotel staff did not know all the bus connections when a correspondance was necessary, also the teapots at breakfast were strangely unavailable fro use as teapots. Travel into the historic centre is necessary by one of two bus routes, which we found OK but at times tiresome compared to being on the metro. The hotel provided natural light in the rooms and the rooms were adequate if unspectacular. The night life for trastevere is good and a welcome break from the more touristy areas of Rome.

This hotel was all it advertised itself to be. The breakfast was excellent, the rooms elegant for the money, and the location, and stylings were all positive. The only problem I have ever incured wasn't with the hotel but my own shortsightedness. I stayed here twice in my travels but the first I took what may have been a gypsu cab or a dishonest one at least. I knew this hotel was on top of a hill, above the Trastevere area but it is also easy and quick to get to by car. The cab driver convinced me that he would have to charge me extra (from the train station) because of the winding streets and it's location. Thinking that I made a mistake in my location calculations I agreed to his set price (which was probably 3 times more than it was worth (and I tipped him like a fool). We got there in less than 10 minutes and he dropped me at the side of the hotel, not the front door. I didn't know the difference and I rang the bell there. The desk instructed me that I was at the side of the building and to come around to the front. That's when it hit me...I was played and I fell for it. Stupid, I know right? Anyway, from the train staion this ride should NOT cost you more than 10 euro. Don't be foolish...like me. The hotel is a wonderful place and you will enjoy your stay there. Make note though, it is at very top of the Janiculum Hill or known also as the top quarter above Trastevere. Not an easy walk up but not terrible either...it's a hill, it's not going to be easy for old folks. The views are spectacular from the lookout points. An excellent find...and I return to Rome 2 or 3 times a year. If you can handle the hill...you will be happy you did. Enjoy.

Luxury hotel, very competitive through this web site. 15 min walk from city center, but city bus 115 (you need to get familiar with it) and tram N°8 will be your best friends to limit the effort. Surroundings is an area of nice luxury residences and embassies, on the gianicolo hill. Astounding view over Rome when walking down towards city center in the evening. Hotel is easy to access from the highways, and outside the area of limited car access. Use the hotel car park (conevnient and relatively cheap). The swimming pool is a real one, reasonnable size, very nice in hot summer afternoons. Did not try the restaurant (so nice to be in Rome at night). Enjoyed the place a lot, worth the money. Only staff friendliness is not where it should be with all the guys there.

This hotel was perfect for our stay...marco and daniel at the front desk were very pleasant and were willing to help at all times...tante baci to them for all their help.. the romms were a little small, but were good for the time we spent in them... the pool was beautiful...we have stayed in rome before at other hotels, but this one was the best by far.....when we go to rome we will only stay in this hotel from now on.....it was only 10 euro to the center of the city.after a full day of that it was a pleasure to come back to a little peice of paradise.....there were several restaurants in the area that were also very good too....

This hotel is on a traffic island but has a nice pool which is perfect in very hot weather to come back to and relax. We found the staff excellent. They recommended an outstanding restaurant located at the back of the hotel on our arrival. its a short walk to the vatican and a overall a great hotel for visiting Rome if you use the excellent public bus service

A lovely hotel with lovely garden & great pool(even though we did not get to use it) . Rooms were on the small side but public rooms and grounds made up for that. Easy access to Trastevere but out of the way if you want to be in central Rome the whole time- need to walk a distance or catch taxis. Breakfast room stunning.

The room was not ready when we arrived (2 hours after the check-in time). They said that the room was going to be on the 2nd floor but then they gave us a very small room right next to reception where we could hear all the talking between customers and employees, and the phone ringing all day long. They were very unpleasent when we asked to move to another room. We insisted and they finaly agreed to make the room change on the next morning. Since then they had an unprofessional and rude behaviour with us. The worst experience in a hotel ever.

We (couple 45/50) had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Del Gianicolo. The breakfast was perfect - delicious food in a beautiful room with vintage jazz music in the background. Very nice (and quite spacious) room. Friendly staff. Some noise from traffic, but not very much by Roman standards. Excellent location, 10 - 15 min walk down to Trastevere, with wonderful view of the city.

For the first time we stayed at Hotel Del Gianicolo. We spent 7 days in Rome as we did in 2003 and we will come back again as soon as possible. Our bathroom (room no. 214)shows signs of mould at the window and near the bath tube also at the curtain. The jacuzzi-type bath tube makes no sense instead impedes one`s movements. Although we could switch off the air-condition which spread an arctic cold (for what reason?)we nevertheless had to fill in a flap with paper to stop indirect inflooding cold air. After this "operation" we felt comfortably . Once again the air-condition: the hotel`s corridors are extremely cold. Why? Breakfast: "Cafe Americano" is almost undrinkable! Why not try simple instant coffee? Thanks for nice days in the Hotel Del Gianicolo . We hope to drop in again! Eckart Fiene

We arrived for the local holiday with not many restaurants open, we had to walk 20 mins to nearest, although very good was quite a trek. Picked the hotel for the pool, which was being renovated. Room was smaller than tiny and hotel smelled of smoke. Only plus was breakfast, very good selection. However, wouldn't stay here again.

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. It is situated about a 15 minute walk from the Vatican on a hill overlooking Rome. Very quiet and very peaceful yet easy to access Rome. The view of Rome just a few steps down from the hotel at the park was fabulous. The rooms were gorgeous and the breakfasts fabulous. The pool was a great hit with the kids, though they all had to wear swim caps (which were available for purchase at the front desk). The staff was delightful and very helpful.

The hotel and surroundings are beautiful, it is just such a shame that they don't have a good desk staff as well. One gentleman in particular was rude and quite put out at just the slightest question. Our room was like an oven and when we couldn't get the AC to come on, we were told that they control it at the desk. We asked if they would please turn it up for us (twice) but they never did. My advice, stay elsewhere!

Very nice in a traditional Italian style. The dated jacuzzi bathtub was a bit alarming. The room with lovely and the setting above the city very special. This was a speciel trip for my moms 60th birthday and i had booked this hotel a full 3 months before arrival. On arrival we were informed our reservation had been cancelled! My original bookingwas for 2 triple rooms and I then added a further 2 double rooms for additional people who pulled out so it was this reservation i cancelled. As it was on completely different reservation number I had no idea the hotel would choose to cancel both bookings. We were told they would sort out rooms for us and that we were `lucky`(!) and after an hour wait we were shown to our rooms. The rooms were fine although I was dissapointed with the size of the triple and found the camp bed unsuitable for an adult. We all found the majority of the reception staff to be quite rude and unhelpful, and since the incident on the first day we were made to feel we should be grateful to be staying there. On the last day of our trip we went to check out and were casually told was there was a taxi strike!!!He left us standing there whilst he proceeded to check out an italian guest who had came up behind us .He then said he would try and see if he could arrange a car for us, in 15 mins, as they offer an pick up/drop off service to the airport. Which of course we would have availed of had we been informed of a strike. When we had waited with no luck he gave us wrong directions to the bus stop to catch a train. We were seriously panicked for time and trying to run with a pushchair, car seat, luggage and a 60 year old was terrible!! We just made it as our check out was closed they had sympathy due to the strike and checked us in.The attendent at the airport could not believe we were not informed as it was announced the previous day. This lack of simple courtesy really but a dampener on the end of our holiday. On the positive the breakfast was good and the pool guy really friendly.Would not recommend this hotel to anyone who doesnt speak perfect italian.

Lovely hotel, a bit away from hustle of centre of Rome. Great pool,(free to residents, so don't be put of by price list at front desk). Bus stops near by, we bought week long tickets from nearby news-stand,very reasoneable. Our only problem was that venere had made a mix-up with our room request(they did this on a prevous booking also), but the hotel sorted it out. Good breakfasts out every morning, lots of fresh fruit, cereals, rolls, pastries etc and staff will make hot choc or macchiato on request. Word of warning, at time we arrived taxis were on strike which made it difficult for holiday makers especially on arrival or departure for those taking bus to or from airport, fortunatley we had pre-booked private taxi pickup online. Overall Rome is fantastic, sights are wonderfull as is food in restaurants. Prices vary depending on how close to main piazzas you dine out at. Would definetly return to Rome.

I was travelling with my 11 year old son. We enjoyed our stay. The breakfast buffet was very good. The staff were always ready to help and there was always someone around who spoke English. Our only small gripe was that we would have liked twin beds not a double. The area is a bit workaday Rome but the walk down into Trastevere doesn't take long and there is the most amazing view to look at on the way. I would recommend this hotel to travellers who are looking for somewhere comfortable and quiet, reasonably priced but not too far out of the centre. Nice in summer, with own garden and pool and surrounded by parks. Parents of young children should be aware there is no pavement outside the hotel entrance and traffic can be busy.

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. I have been to Rome once before and stayed near the train station. Staying in Trastevere was a welcome change. The rooms were spacious and very lovely. We were there in Feb 2007, so obviously we weren't able to use the pool. But it must be quite the place to be in the summer months. The staff and service were wonderful. We came in late one night from a tour and we asked if they could assist us in ordering some food. Not only did they do that, they opened their dining room and served our take-out food there. I'd definitely go back again!

This Hotel is very near the Trastevere. Nous sommes restés sept jours à Rome (six nuits à l'hôtel Gianicolo). Notre chambre était plutôt petite mais confortable, très propre et agréable. Had a fabulous time in the ideal location for a summer break in Rome, the pool is a welcome relief in the heat of summer after a morning sight seeing. Transport services into the centre are excellent but it is not too far to walk and the views on the way down were stunning. Nice hotel. Lovely swimming pool that was a real bonus as it was so hot. Pool is free to residents of the hotel so don,t be put off by price list for use of pool at the front desk, this is for people not staying at hotel. Hotel is a bit far from centre of Rome and as it at top of a steep hill, not pleasant to walk to in 33c heat. Fortunately there is a bus stop near by & service is very good. Breakfasts were lovely. Only problem we had was that Venere had not passed on our change in room size request from double to triple for our family who were with us, this meant our 1st night we all had to change sleeping arrangments but hotel sorted this next day.

Best breakfast anywhere, ever. The woman who was on duty at night was very friendly and welcoming, but we found the day man quite cold. Rooms were very comfortable and the beds lovely.

Very nice property in nice residential area. Price vs quality is excellent. 100 euros for a 3 persons room in January low season period. I would highly recomend this property.

This hotel is well placed for sight-seeing in Rome. It is a 15 minute walk into Trastevere where there are plenty of restaurants. However, the hotel is on a hill and it is a hard walk down sloping paths and steep steps so don't book here if you are not fit. Our room was a triple and was plenty big enough for 3. Lovely jakuzzi bath with hairdryer and slippers provided for guests. Breakfast was excellent buffet with fruit, cereal, cakes and croissants, cheeses, ham and quiche, juices and coffee. We stayed 5 nights in mid-January 06. If you are not interested in museums then 4 days is more than enough. It rained for 1 day and this made sight-seeing very miserable. It was quite cold morning and evening so take plenty of warm clothes. Try to learn some italian as english is not widely spoken and I think they would be more friendly if we made more effort. The hotel organised airport transfers for us at E55 which we greatly appreciated as it is a long and tortuous journey from Ciampino airport. As a last word, I wouldn't go to Rome again - it is dirty and covered in grafitii and the people are mostly unfriendly or downright rude (shop assistants particularly) and unsmiling. There are lots of beggars and street sellers which you get used to stepping over, or declining but it gets a bit wearing. If you must go to Rome this is an excellent hotel to stay in.

The breakfast you offered was exceedingly generous and provided a great range of excellent quality food. Perhaps it was the language barrier (we speak English), but the staff at the front desk did not exhibit much warmth or enthusiasm for their roles as service providers. The breakfast staff, however, was attentive.

Nice, but expensive hotel. Beautiful roofgarden, which was closed during our week at this hotel. Excellent breakfast with freshly prepared italian coffee specialties. Nice personal. No restaurant at the hotel. Restaurant nearby with new age design and normal food quality, but prices triple than normal. You better go down the hill to Trastevere. To pay attention to handbag thieves, we observed the picking of a handbag by two yougsters at a Piaggio nearby the viewpoint. overall conclusion: nice hotel in relatively quiet quarter of rome, but poor services after breakfast. Walls were very sensible to talks in the neighbour rooms.

Rooms were tiny and service was so-so. However, the rooms were well kept and the hotel was in a great location in Trastevere. The prices were out of line for a hotel with no in-house restaurant. Next time I would look for a hotel with a price comensurate with the size of the room and one with a restaurant.

Excellent staff - especially the two Daniels - so accommodating and courteous. The grounds were beautifully kept, and because I stayed over a week, I felt that I had a taste of what it was to live in Italy, albeit a higher-priced neighborhood. I loved the proximity to the parks, and the buses. I recommend this hotel highly, and will return if ever I am in Rome again.

I stayed for 8 days with my friends and found the staff friendly, helpful, and accommodating. At the end, when my friends had departed, I felt very comfortable. In particular, I wish to commend the two Daniels who exemplify superior service from staff. They were helpful in giving directions to sites, restaurants, bus schedules, and tips on sites. The were especially helpful and courteous. The grounds of the hotel are beatiful, and I have and will recommend this hotel in future. One suggestion might be to amend the directions to the hotel from all points as it is not presently clear that we can access the G.R.A. from the south of Italy - the directions imply that if you are coming in from the airport only then use these directions. We were a bit lost within Rome before we were able to find the correct road to the hotel. Once we arrived, we were quite pleased with the accommodations. The double paned windows allowed complete quiet for a good night's rest, and the breakfast table was generous and accommodated a varied diet. Thank you.

The hotel is beautiful, well run and very clean. The room and bathroom were top notch. It was a little hard to find and a little out of the way, but I would certainly stay again. The hotel staff went out of their way to assist us.

Our second visit was every bit as good as our first. This hotel was one of our best experiences of Europe. Personally I love this quiet location in Rome, surrounded by parks and greenspaces, yet an easy bus or taxi ride to all the sights in Rome. I highly recommend this hotel

A Quiet corner of Rome: contrary to other reviews we found this location to be quiet relative to other parts of Rome. There is a little traffic noise that stops when you close the window. (we stayed on the street side.) The service and accomodations were top notch. Staff were fabulous and friendly. City buses allow easy fast access to any part of Rome. The pool is a huge plus. We stayed during August and found the location to be perfect for us. I highly recommend this hotel.

The Hotel is really nice and it's located in a good area. You can go from there to everywhere in Rome by bus witch is a PLUS. The breakfast is plenty and the staff attention is excellent. The only bad thing was finding out how expensive the internet is in their locations after the web page says is complimentary. Oh well the internet is expensive everywhere in Europe tho.

I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone. The service was excellent and the staff could not have been more helpful. The rooms were large and the airconditioning worked beautifully. The room was always kept very clean. The breakfast was plentiful and the food was of an excellent standard. Although this hotel was at the top of a hill there was a bus stop right outside the hotel and also the taxi fares were very reasonable My daughter and I would not dream of going to any other hotel in Rome and in fact we are thinking of going back next year as it is such a superb hotel

A good deal for the price although I think they must have given us the tiniest room in the building, cupboards included! The location is wonderful - such a lovely change to being right in the centre, and the walk down to trastevere is very pleasant. Del gianicolo bar on the corner is a lovely spot, and the gardens and viewpoint around the Garibaldi monument really give a different flavour of Rome. If you're tempted by the pool, be warned - it costs around 20euro to use and swimming hats are obligatory. Salad was an odd addition to the breakfast buffet but plenty of cheese, meats, cakes, cereals etc make it one of the best I've seen in Italy.

Poche informazioni in camera su trasporti e servizi interni. Nel complesso comunque il giudizio è buono.

This is a lovely hotel, with a fabulous pool that we really enjoyed and wonderful breakfasts! The rooms, while small, were attractive and with good a/c. The biggest problem we had was that the walls were paper thin and you could hear everything going on in the room next door. Sleep came hard. Otherwise, a very nice hotel.

There were two things thast spoiled the experience of this otherwise excellent quality hotel. Firstly the room was not cleaned when we entered, which explained why it had taken several attempts to access the room by electronic, then physical key. The replacement room was not ready either for another 15-20 minutes, and the receptionist was not at all customer focussed (answering 4 phone calls and another customer, whilst not addressing my problem). Secondly the map did not really give the correct indication of how difficult it is to get public transport to the hotel, and that it would have been appropriate if the hotel laid on a shuttle either into the centre of Rome, or even the Centre of Travestere - as the hill climb to the hotel was intimidating, especially at peak traffic times!

A great place to stay at a great location. For the first sight it seems to be quiet far away from the center, however it is amazing, that breathtaking Trastevere is just few steps and minutes away!!!! It is really worth to go few steps further from the busy and noisy downtown to have peace and quite to relax and calm down before getting back to Trastevere night! Excellent room, excellent breakfast. Overall highly recommanded! I'm going to return, and I mean it!

We had a very nice stay at Del Gianicolo. It was very expensive to always take taxis to the other parts of Rome, but we specifically chose that location as it was in close proximity to our daughter who lives in the Trastavere section of town. There was no concierge to access, but the staff was very gracious and gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants. We could have used more written information about hotel services and local restaurants, activities and cultural exhibits/events. The hotel was lovely and we enjoyed the non-touristy feel of the hotel, the grounds, and the area. We wished it was warm enough to use the beautiful pool. The staff was very forgiving about our well-intetioned, but bad attempts to speak Italian. We would recommend the hotel to anyone wanting a relaxed environment outside of the tourist crowds. Grazie for a wonderful visit to Rome and the Hotel del Gianicolo.
