its a great place for the price you pay. its clean quiet but only has one bathroom shower for all rooms so I suppose that could be a problem if everyone would want to shower at the same time in the morning
United Kingdom, Sep 2009
For this price, breakfast should be included. The noise from the road was terrible. We chose this hotel because it was on the 5th floor but I heard people in the street at all hours despite the hotel staff saying that the windows were effective against noise. Room was not very attractive but clean. Staff were visible in room next to ours when we came and went. We were 2 women wanting twin beds but were only offered a double bed, or a double with a singl shoved in the corner.

All the facilities are basic and clean. I thought there would be internet but no. The entrance door was really scary, like it's under construction. The property was pretty old and should do some make over. The male manager, Roberto was very helpful but the female manager didn't speak English and was a bit indifferent and not so friendly at times, when I want to get stuff out of the fridge in the office or want to change beds. The only light in the 4 people female dorm was very very dim. They provide towel which was good. There wasn't really any public areas. Not great but enough for a budget traveler.

A 3-star hotel in Italy is roughly equivalent to a 2-star hotel in Germany. The family working at the hotel are friendly, speak good English and are eager to please. Do NOT accept a room facing the busy street, which is very loud. After one night of that I asked for a different room, which was granted and afterward no problem. I would stay here again if I was looking for a cheap, spartan hotel in a very convenient location with very good service.

It was my first stay at Hotel Cressy and I used dorm type room, but it was comfortable stay and room was nice and good price.(They also have single/double rooms). Location was also good, close to termini Station and the hotel staffs are very nice, especially Mr.Roberto(spell?) was so friendly and I had very good time. They also offer Rome City map, some information, and towel and soup if you need. The only one thing I was confused by is the map on this website was a little bit different, but there're a lot of hotels, hostels, so you can ask them. I would recommend this hotel.

It is exactly as they've advertised. You get a bed and hot shower. Very basic. But the staff was nice, and I had the whole room to myself for about 2 nights so I can't complain. Overall, it was a good stay and I stayed 4 nights there.

The room was very clean and spacious with a great view over the street. The owners are very friendly. They gave us great advice and recommendations about Rome and surrounding cities. In a way, we felt like we were their guests. The hotel is impecably clean. Rooms are cleaned daiily and fresh towels are provided. I would go back in a heart beat. Also, check out the coffee shop right downstairs from the hotel... Very friendly and reasonable prices.

I chose this location for its proximity to the train station and to the hotel I would be joining a travel group at the next day. I would recommend finding a hotel in a better area of the city, closer to attractions. The lock in my room did not work properly, even after informing staff, was only shown "how to do it right". Later that evening someone got into my room and urinated on my floor. I was not offered a new room, the staff accused me of urinating on my floor and then swirled the urine around the room with a small mop, suggesting that I leave the window open and fan on to "air it out". It could not be much worse than this. I was shocked at the very poor quality of the overall hotel based on reviews on your site which were very positive. I am a budget traveler and don't expect much from the hotels I book with, but this was completely disgusting, I still gag when I think about it.

Very helpful and friendly staff, excellent value for the price considering the location. It is very close to the metro. The room was very nice. But the hotel surroundings were average - it was a safe area, but no frills.

The hotel blocked the room cost on my credit card an didn't make it clear that the amount would be released later on. So when I was forced to pay cash for my stay (the only option provided), I was paying twice... But later the credit charge was released.

The hotel is very close to Termini Station (the main reason why i decided to stay here). The room i stayed in was a bit dusty and the public bathroom was more or less OK (in terms of cleanliness). I would prefer if there was a bathtub and not just a hole on the floor to drain shower water.

If you're looking for a cheap, clean place to say in Rome, this is your place. You're getting what you pay for however, as it has 0 frills. The mattresses were amongst the cheapest and most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. I was also annoyed at having to pay cash for my room after the first night, despite being able to pay for my first night with my credit card.

This is the first time I travel to Rome and consequently the first time I stayed at the hotel Crezzy, indeed expected better care and better facilities, besides not liking me that the bathroom was shared, that is outside the room, I was in London in a 2 star hotel and was better service and a much lower cost.

seedy, creepy, scary, dirty, etc. I now understand why a horror movie called hostel was made. The staff made me wait 25 minutes while the only person able to check me in was on the phone. I checked in and basically checked out and slept at the airport.

It was o.k. for one night but not for more. It cost too much for what it is if I compare with other b&b where i stayed in Roma and the rest of Italia.

It was a nice place to meet other travellers, who ended up in the same dormitory room. The restaurant that they recommend, which is right by the hostel has very good pizza and salad. The dorm room is definitely not spacious, but a good place to go if you want a clean place to sleep for a reasonable price. The toilets were clean. There were only two bathrooms, but somehow it worked out that I didn't have to wait to use it.

Renate made me really feel welcome when I arrived late at night and she maintained excellent customer service throughout my stay. Everybody else were also friendly and helpful. Our dorm was clean and it was good to enjoy the hot showers after tiring days out. Hotel Cressy has good links to main sightseeing attractions (many situated within walking distance). It would be good if the hotel invested in computers (1 or 2) to provide internet access to residents. It's also a pity that there is no common lounge area for socialising. It was my first experience in Dormitory type accommodation and actually found it quite pleasant. I shared with great girls/ladies and despite our age, language and cultural differences, we got on well. I would recommend Hotel Cressy for any "budget traveller".

The Cressy is a real find for single travellers who are either passing through Rome or staying there. It's located 2 blocks from the Termini Sta., so it's easy on the traveller who has to catch an early morning train to the airport,or a bus or metro to anywhere in Rome.I found the room I stayed in to be in good condition, the staff to be welcoming and efficient, and the price very reasonable.I don't think it would be great for a family with kids; the place is really best suited to the light-luggage/young traveller; I don't think it would be for anyone wanting luxury, or a "family-friendly" place. Around the area there were some quite decent little restaurants,(probably one of the few places in Rome for Chinese or Ethiopian food)and a nice supermarket (great for putting together sandwiches and 'road food'). I stayed in April, and things weren't in high season yet; I don't know if someone who was going in Summer would have the same hassle-free time--the area around(you could imagine) might be too hectic for some travellers, especially in peak peason. But I'm from NYC, so "busy" frankly doesn't faze me.

Good value for money. We stayed for a night each in a double room and a triple room and both rooms were spacious, neat and clean. Most important was that the toilets in the room and the shared ones were clean. City map was provided as soon as we arrived and the cool gentleman explained us how to go about the city. It was a bit difficult to find the place at first as there is no sign clearly marking the hotel. We exited on Via Marsala from the train station and and had to walk about 15 minutes with luggage to reach the hotel. Overall a great place to stay for your short trip in Room. Last note : There is a supermarket at the train station basement, so you may want to stock up on your essentials.

The hotel was very clean and quiet, the manager very helpful, giving us a map and marking the major sights and which bus or subway to take to get to them, also the location of a supermarket. Sixty euro per night was a very good price for Rome - that was for 3 people with a shared bath. If you are looking for breakfast and luxury this is not the place, but if you want a clean place near the train station and within walking distance (about a mile) from the Colosseum & Forum, and in what seemed to be a safe area (lots of businessmen & tourists) - and don't mind climbing stairs - it is very good.

We stayed in a private three-bed-room and found everything what we needed! perfect location close to everywhere you want to go, great quality/price-ratio, nice staff, plain but clean room. If you come to Rome to see as much of the city as possible and only need your room to sleep at night, this is perfect. If you spend a week or two and also look for some comfort and homeyness, you might pick a real hotel. We will definitely come again!

This is, as other reviewers have stated, an incredible base to explore Rome. If you are looking for something fancy, this is not your place. It is good for people on a budget and those who just want a place to sleep and keep their stuff. I liked the hotel very well. The pillows were incredible. The only two things that bothered me were the fact that they united two twin beds and called it a double bed. I did not like the crack in between. Also, one time a smoker left the public shower stinking of cigarettes, full of water, and tons of facial hair in the sink. That was disgusting, but not the hotel's fault. It's people who did not have a mom, I guess. Anyway, there are very nice places to eat around, and the colosseum is incredibly close. So, enjoy your visit. Oh yeah, make sure you close BOTH elevator/lift's doors after you leave or it won't work.

The staff are very welcoming and warn you about pick pockets on the bus and trains. You receive a map of the city and any information needed will be given to you. It is not a bed and breakfast and there is no such thing as television, radio, the Internet, etc. You pay to have a place to rest at night! If you need to eat out or use the Internet or make a call, its all located downstairs, quite convenient! The dormitory however has no place to hang your clothes and not enough space especially when full. I stayed in the men's dormitory with four other people from various places, who came in and went. The hotel is located just a few meters from termini station which is quite good as you can access the city from there. I would love to book Cressy again when I go to Rome.

This place was pretty good for the money. The girls coming in at night and getting up in the morning couldn't have been nosier though. And two toilets and two showers is not nearly enough for over 10 people. The area was safe enough and easy enough to get to from the train station. It's not really that close to the main attractions however. But for the price, what do you expect? The staff was very helpful and kind. Also there's a great place to get coffee next door.

The Hotel Cressy was great for the amount of time i needed it. The staff was very friendly and accomodating and you couldnt ask for a better location for the amount of money they charge. Take note that the rooms have no TV's and are not the kind of room you would want to spend any great length of time in but most staying there are there to see Rome and not the room. I would definitely stay there again. Ciao!

The employees at Hotel Cressy were great although I did find one of them with a friend smoking pot one evening (granted I didnt see it, just smelled it)! The property leaves alot to be desired. I am not picky but when we arrived we were very disappointed. The lobby downstairs in the building is just scary and desparately needs to be cleaned and painted. There is no lobby in the cressy, just a table in a hallway. EVerything needs to be painted to just appear decent. The room was reasonably clean except the ants that kept appearing everytime we put anything on the floor (our backpacks) We left a pack of gum on the table and it was swarmed by ants by morning. I would not return again. I am fine with very basic lodging but this was not even basic.

Extremely friendly and competent staff. Very nice, family-like flair, clean rooms, bathrooms and showers and really quiet. Only 5 minutes walk to the Termini station. I stayed in the female dorm and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet and clean place to sleep and not a party hostel. A good option for those who have grown out of their youth hostel era but still can't afford a single room in a hotel :-) On the last day I left my baggage after checking out and when I came to pick it up in the evening, the receptionist even asked if I wanted to have a shower before getting on the night train, I thought that was really sweet.

This is a very small and cheap hotel down the street from Roma Termini train station, which is convenient, but noisy. The building is awfully run down and feels very creepy, but the hotel areas are fine, if not also quite old. There wasn't any air-conditioning during my stay in the middle of summer, which was bothersome, but you get what you pay for. The conveince for travelling, internet and dining made up for some of the niggles, and the staff were very nice and helpful.

The poor ratings were there but we needed to be close to Termini station for a night before catching a flight so we went ahead with the reservation. It felt like a hostel, and the people were very nice but we chose to hang around the busy station for 6 hours than go back to the sad dirty feeling of the place that we weren't quite used to. Location great, quality not. Simple as that.

What an amazing place! I won't stay anywhere else when I return to unforgettable Roma. I had stayed in one other hostel in NYC and it was not very clean. Thus, when I booked Cressy I was a bit apprehensive. I learned quickly that it should not be called a pensione! It's a home! I stayed in a female dorm and met amazing women! I know that depends on luck but I have a feeling Roberto knows who to welcome in his home. Roberto is a perfect gentleman and a wonderful host. My trip would not have been the same without him! He's WONDERFUL. I have and will continue to tell everyone I know who is going to Rome to stay at Cressy! A word to the wise: If you're coming from CIA there is a bus for 6 EU that parks across the street from the the train station. When I initially got to Rome I flew in from FCO and took the train to Termini. It's 11 EU but no one ever looked at my ticket ( I stayed in the first cart so I would be the first out once the train got to Termini) The surrounding area is kinda sketchy but keep your eyes open and be smart! I was alone on my trip and felt safe. Head up, eyes straight, walk with confidence and no one will bother you. Choose Cressy! You'll be pleased you did!

close to the central train station which is one of the only points where the main subways connect. The general area around the hotel is a little rundown and scummy looking, but it is a great point to start from to get around the city. The staff was great at explaining the city transport and beautiful walking tours and it is a pretty secure location; keys to the buildings main entrance, to the hotel front door on the fifth floor and keys to your room. Great for backpackers, don't know if its the family type of hotel though. we were a group of 4 and the price was decent split. Just be prepared to pay in cash.

Hotel Cressy was perfect - especially the location, a 5 minute walk from the train station. The price was also great, especially for a hotel that is right at Termini, from which it is possible to access any part of Rome very easily. The receptionists were also very friendly and I liked them all, one especially. Even the cleaning lady was awesome, i talked to her for a while. I stayed four nights and whenever I come back, will be sure to reserve my bed here and nowhere else. At night it can be a bit sketchy, but the walk is so short that it hardly matters.

I stayed in the shared dorm room with other women because I wanted an inexpensive and central place to stay while in Rome. While it's not fancy, it was clean and quiet, and for the money ($30 Eu/Night) it was excellent value! The rooms were clean and I met some great people who gave me recommendations on things to see and do. Being close to the Termini station was great - it really is just a 3 block walk away. From there you can walk or take busses or the metro to anywhere you need to go. And right across the street from the hotel is a small flea market that is open every day. There are nearby shops for internet access and breakfast. The owners/managers had enough English to show me recommended sites and gave me a map of the main tourist areas of the city. They explained which busses to take and were very helpful and warned of the pickpockets on the busses and at the Termini. They let me use the phone to make a calling-card call back home. I felt completely safe the whole time I was there and never had any problems. I'd happily stay at the Cressy again.

The Hotel Cressy is about an 8 minute walk to Termini Station. It made it very convenient for us because we arrived and departed by train and our tour started and ended at the train station. While it was not a pretty walk to the hotel, the staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. It had extremely clean and nice bathrooms. Our room was not on the busy street so it was pretty quiet. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rome.

The dorm room is too small and crowded for 5 people -- suitcases cram the aisle between beds. The single bed room is fine but basic. Two bathrooms for all the residents is really too few, but in practice it worked out. Everybody was considerate of everybody else, or it could have been a problem. Considering the low cost, the hotel is a good bargain. The neighborhood looks rough but actually is quite safe. The hotel is close to the terminal, as advertised -- as close as you can get really-- tricky to find the first time but fast and a snap once you know the way. I would return but only if I could book a room, not to the dorm (don't mind sharing with others, the room is just too crowded for 5) Good, helpful staff

The enterance and elevator of the building are old and ghetto. But, once you get inside the hotel, everything is nice and clean. The bathrooms are very clean. Manager is very helpful. It's close to a supermarket, the train termini, and 2 metro stations.

As an individual female traveller, this hotel was excellent. It was near Termini station which was ideal for me as i was heading to Bari for a day for the football and didn't have to get up too early! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Cannot fault this hotel!!

I stayed in a 6-bedroom girls' room at Hotel Cressy, wanting nothing more than a clean, quiet and relatively inexpensive base for my stay in Rome. Cressy delivered spectacularly, with helpful and friendly staff, great fellow travellers, a conveniently central location (I'd been warned that the area around Termini was a little dodgy but I had no problems at all, and it was actually quite handy being so close to the station when arriving and leaving) and perfectly clean and good quality beds and bathroom facilities, all for a very good price in a very expensive city. I'd definitely stay at Cressy again and I recommend it to anyone visiting Rome on a budget.

STAFF VERY HELPUL AND PLEASANT, SPEAKING GOOD ENGLISH. STAYED IN A SINGLE ROOM WITH A SHARED BATHROOM,WHICH WAS ADEQUATE FOR MY NEEDS,AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE SHARED FACILITIES. DISAPPOINTINGLY THE HOTEL MANAGEMENT DO NOT WANT YOU TO USE A CREDIT CARD TO PAY FOR THE BILL ALTHOUGH THE HOTELS WEBSITE DOES STATE THAT ALL CREDIT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED.THIS I FELT WAS A COST CUTTING EXERCISE BY THE MANAGEMENT AS THEY GET CHARGED FOR EACH CREDIT CARD TRANSACTION THEY DEAL WITH.

The cost of the room was 10 Euros more than the price quoted with no place on the web site to question that. I was told I couldn't use a credit card when I arrived at the pensione at midnight. I didn't have enough cash. Nowhere on my receipt from the internet did it say cash was required. I didn't realize until I arrived in Rome at 23:00 that the information printed from the internet, receipt, etc, did not include directions to the pensione, nor a phone number or any way to contact the pensione for directions. While finding the room and paying for it were simple, the orverall service was poor.

There were three of us over for the derby, and the Cressy offered excellent budget accommodation. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was basic but fine for the price (€80 a night for three), we were ideally placed for transport and waliing to the Centro Storico, and although the area around Termini is not the most attractive part of Rome, it is safe and a good place to rest your head and get fed. We'll be back!
