Quiet room on internal courtyard, smelled of mould, lacked air, open the window! Lovely staff, convenient to station, super-hot shower, too bad it leaked. Worth the price we paid, it being Rome.

The room was very small, but let's be honest it's Rome and things are very expensive. It was nice to be near Termini Train Station for when we left, but the location is dismal. (Super shady characters around).

Exactly what we expected, Clean, comfortable, but basic enough. Friendly staff with good english.Continental Breakfast (no hot food). But this hotel is all about location...5 mins from main Rome terminus for Train, Metro and Buses making seeing Rome's sights easy.

Very standard hotel. We stayed 3 nights, and each morning, breakfast consisted of only lots of pastries, some cereal, and 1 yogurt choice. No fruits, nothing hot. If you like a lot of carbs, breakfast there is probably good, but variety very lacking. Hotel room was very spacious, though bathroom was a bit small. Corner shower was fine so long as you're not a bigger person. Staff was friendly, though not enthusiastic. Good location - very close to Termini if you want to train. We walked everywhere though and nothing seemed too far. While it is "central" in Rome, it is on the far east side of most of the tourist sites, so just keep that in mind. All in all, decent value & hotel, but nothing too special or exciting.

The hotel was basically exactly what we were expecting and then some. The room was nice size and comfortable. The breakfast area was big and there was a good selection. Good wireless internet, and Michael at the front desk was very helpful. Good location near Termini. Our only complaint was that the bath towels were extremely thin (like a table cloth), but they did get the job done.

It was my first stay in Rome and also the first stay at the Hotel Contilia. I want to recomand this Hotel to everybody who will travel to Rome the first time. Friendly and perfect service, clean and quiet rooms and top located. I have checked a lot of Hotels @ internet before, but in my opinion, the relationship between price and quality is top!

The location for this hotel is great IF you need to be close to the Termini for quick train, metro and bus access. It's an OK stay for a couple of days, or if you need an overnight stay between rail trips. I have previously stayed in the Kennedy Hotel, which has superior acommodations at a similar price range and location.

Perfect location (close to train and metro station); nice breakfast (though 7:30 opening time was a little later than we would have liked); a clean, well decorated, convenient room (if a little small); friendly and helpful people at the front desk. I would not hesitate to recommed this hotel to anyone and would stay there again if in Rome.

The hotel is excellent because of its proximity to Termini station. Room was very comfortable and all facilities were of a good standard. Breakfast was ample and the staff was helpful. There are many restaurants nearby and all major highlights can be reached easily with the Metro from the station. Excellent value for money. I would recommend it.

The Hotel is very well located, just few minutes walk from Termini station. The rooms are quiet and a bit dark (good if you want to rest also during the day) but this is a disadvantage if you need to work. Overall, the service was good but there was a persistent bad smell coming from the toilets.

We only stay 3 days to Rome and 2 night to Contilia. The room was clean and enought spacious for us. Employee are very nice. Maybe it could have one more cover in the room and some more documentations regarding visits to do, the transports, pass access... Otherwhise, everything was perfect, we will come back to Rome and to the Contilia.

This was the first time to stay at Contilia. I was travelling alone. The hotel is very convenient for the rapid traveller using railroad, as the hotel is within about 5 minute walk. The bathroom is particularly narrow and a towel for bidet was not provided. The street around the hotel is messy. The hotel is appropriate for the rapid traveller arriving in the late evening and leaving in the morning of the next day, especially by train. The hotel is not appropriate for those who enjoy the stay in Roma for tourism.

I needed a room close to the station to fall into to recover from a long haul international flight and then leave early the next morning by train to Firenze. I chose Contilla for price and convenience to Termini. I was pleasantly surprised. Miquel - on reception was very welcoming and helpful, my room was cool, dark and quiet even though the windows opened onto the street. The breakfast was continental but still good range of choices. I had free internet access in my room. I enjoyed my brief stay and felt it was good value for money.

My first impression was a feeling of a dirty room. It was dirty on the wallpapers made of clothes. The lamp was broken and a lot of hole from a cigarette on the clothes covering the bed. The mirror in the toilette was not cleaned. The price is very high and a the standard is low.

Getting to and from the Rome airport is incredibly expensive if you have to lug more than an overnight bag, and/or have physical issues which make it difficult to get up and down flights of Metro stairs. Staying near Termini, the central railway station is then a viable option. The Contilia is quite 20th century (large cloths rather than towels and no overhead shower fitting) but impeccably clean. The Wifi is dodgy and may exist but we were unable to decipher the misprinted password. We also had to check out prior to breakfast so have no experience of that.

As mentioned by Venere and quoted by others travelers, this hotel is very good quality. In room the cooling system is efficient, you have minibar, and the bathroom is very clean. No problem with sounds, inside the hotel and from the street also. It is at 2 min from the train station and 5 min from the coliseo and other major touristics site... I recomend this hotel. Last point, the price negociated by Venere is very good when regarding prices in the hotel.

Location of the hotel close to Termini station really good, however surrandings are not so nice due to a lot of immigrants. Staff friendly and helpful. 3-bed room OK, but not so big. The location is great if your main concern is to be close to the train station. The surroundings of the hotel are fine but the immediate vicinity of the train station is quite dodgy at night. The personnel at front desk was friendly and helpful. Not the same with the personnel in the breakfast room: noisy, moody and not even acknowledging a simple "Buon giorno". Although breakfast was included, I skipped the breakfast after the second day, partly because of the unpleasant staff and partly because of the awful coffee (coffee from a machine, in Italy!?!?). All my other hotels were serving fresh espresso. I had two separate stays in this hotel and each time, the rooms were very clean but very, very small. The second room had a double bed but I don't see how the luggage of two persons would have fit in that room. Poor heating, it took two days for the second room to get to a reasonable temperature. Likely a nice place to stay in Summer, not so much in Winter, but a fairly good quality for the very reasonable price if you don't mind a small room. Fast wireless internet is available in the rooms.

We were two middle aged couples spending some time in Rome before joining a cruise from Civitavecchia. The proximity to the Termini Railway station and Ciampino bus drop off was excellent. The hotel was surrounded by excellent eating places and was near to both bus and metro for sightseeing. We will certainly be back.

Hotel Contilia is the answer to those of us who are looking for a comfortable acommodation at an affordable price. Everything was as expected. The one thing you shouldn´t forget about this hotel is that it is a three stars. It is close to everithing, and most importan it is just metres away from Termini station. We did not spend much time in the hotel, we just wanted a place to stay, clean and quiet. And that was what we found. The receptionists were polite and gave answer to all our doubts about Rome. Next time we go to Rome we´ll be back at this Hotel.

Hotel Contilia is in a good location for the independent traveller. We arrived by train and walked to the hotel. The major blip was that the instructions from Venere were incorrect. Luckily one of our party had been there before and thought something was wrong. Three of us stood on a street corner with luggage while the fourth scouted the area and discovered we needed to turn left, not right as in the instructions! The hotel was very close to one of the stops for the hop-on, hop-off buses, which made it easy for sightseeing. A taxi fare to the airport for 4 of us plus luggage was only 40 euros. The manager on duty when we arrived was excellent and very helpful, but others were not as friendly or knowledgeable. The single room sizes were small. There was not much room to walk around. I would not have wanted to spend a lot of time in the hotel room but it was fine for a 2-3 day break. There was more space in my friends' double room. The only cleanliness issue was the floor. I walked around barefoot after a shower and found dust balls all over my feet!

This was our first stay at Hotel Contilia. We stayed for 3 nights. It was very close to the Termini Station and some nice restaurants closeby. At night the front of the hotel seemed to be a hang out which made us feel uncomfortable at times. Breakfast was okay - basic - enough to start our day - coffee not good. My family didn't like the linen towels, but I thought they did dry you up well. Great restaurant closeby - Aquila Nera.

I booked room for 4 people and was very impressed since it had been renovated. It was very clean and comfortable. Great location and it was quiet during the 4 days that I stayed with my family. Elevators are very small and the breakfast that was included was more like continental. The only suggestion that I would make is to have a different menu in order to have variety . It was a great vacation and the location was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We were pleasantly surprised that Hotel Contilia was a luxurious hotel with spacious, clean rooms, excellent air conditioning and friendly service. Request double bed and room before but hotel allocated triple room with single bed to us finally. This is unexpected. Moreover, hotel room facilities are quiet old. Small television, very cold air-conditional (uncontrollable), Poor washroom (small & dirty). Then, inconvenience and unsafety about room key as we need to left down the key in reception when we go out by everytime but hotel staffs will not identify ID when we go back to hotel and request room key. Location quiet near Milano central station as around 5 mins by walk and easy to find it but hotel surroundings so poor and dirty. Hotel has to provide free wi-fi for PC notebook user. This is convenience.

Excellent location - about four or five minutes walk from the Rome Termini, and within walking distance to the Colosseum and Roman forum (if youre fit!). On arrival, the receptionist tried to get us to move to another hotel of theirs, which was very strange and not welcome after a full day of travelling. We tried to ascertain whether the hotel was overbooked and that was why they were trying to move us, but the receptionist was very coy and not answering properly. We were starting to get very annoying, especially as it was after 7pm and we really didnt want to go to another hotel, especially as we had booked the Contilia based on the venere.com recommendations and information. After checking into our room FINALLY, it was very small, but sufficient for our needs as we spent most days out and about. Breakfast was very poor, stale rolls and cereals, and very hard to get a cup of tea. The juice was just flavoured water. Otherwise this is a great hotel just for the location - there is also an amazing restaurant across the road called Ristorante Alfredo - fantastic service and food.

We stayed in Hotel Contillia in Feb 2008, The weather was very good, an Rome was not so crouwded as in the Summer. The hotel was very well located very near to the termini Station, Our bedroom was comfortable, spotless and Very spacious for Rome, the breakfeast buffet was Breakfast was plentiful but basic, an egg occasionally wood be nice for a chance. Lots of good restaurants in the surrounding area, But Trattoria Angelo, on the way to Termini, was the very best, extremly frindy staff, good prices, big portions, we eat there almost every evening during our stay and on the last day my Wife get a very big portion from something she liked very much, to take home to Belgium, FOR FREE. If you go there tell them we recomented them to you, and give them our regardts. Overall, a very good Hotel, not the real low Buget, but real Quality for a fear price, I really will stay there again next time I visit Rome And If you pay Chash you get 5 % Discount, You just have to ask for it.

Pro: very convenient to the train station for a early departure. Con: Room was NOT as pictured on the web page. I booked 2 other rooms for accompaning travelers that were as pictured. However one was a suite and one other was a room as pictured. We ALL paid the same amount for 3 totally different rooms. Our room was sparcely decorated, old furniture, no decorator touches like crown moulding or a remodeled bath. We spoke to the reception desk and he said the other rooms were a suite and a superior room. If this IS the case, Contilia should not supply photos without explaining these are NOT what you get for 155 euros! All 3 rooms cost 155 euros. They made no compensation and was not able to contact the manager before we left for the train at 5:45am. I WOULD NOT stay here again

Its location in Rome is very good, very close to the rail station of Termini and the bus central station, and close to the heart of the historic town. The hotel is confortable and clean. Perhaps the streets around the hotel are not very nice but this can be forgotten if one walk and visit the near basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. No doubt Contilia is a very good hotel. Very good price (only 80 euros) for such standard. Three years ago I came to Roma and stayed in several hotels (3 stars) which gave me an impression than all Roma hotels are below standard. It is Contilia that changed my bad impression. It's easy to find (may be because this the second time to visit Roma) and is closed to everything. The Roma central station is just within 5 minutes' walking distance. There is a small supermarket around where you can buy water and wine. Breakfast is good, if not the best. Our room rests on the fifth floor and is facing the main street, yet very quiet at night.

Generally a very pleasant hotel. Initial welcome from reception staff of some concern, but for the remainder of the stay they were very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean, and the decor felt quite luxurious, although the water pipes behind the walls were rather noisy. Some concerns about the standard of housekeeping service (things moved, cupboards were opened), but nothing serious. Breakfast was quite poor, it could be more varied and of better quality. The area was not one of the nicest in Rome, but we never felt unsafe, and proximity to the train station (with metro and bus stop) was very convenient. We would recommend this hotel, it was definitely worth the price.

The main issue is that I (and another person from my tour who had also booked at the Contilia) was asked to stay in another hotel - the Serena. After being dropped off at the Contilia hotel by our van we went in to register only to be told that we had to walk with our bags a block or so to another hotel. While the Serena was nice I had no idea whether the rates were compatable. The staff at the Serena were pleasant and helpful - they arranged a cab for me to arrive for a very early flight at the airport. the rooms were very clean and pleasant.

The rooms were extremely small with no space for luggage but were very clean and adequate. Our only complaint were the garbage dumpsters that lined the street outside the hotel.

Our room had obviously been recently renovated. It was the cleanest place we stayed at on our 2 week trip in Italy. A very nice room and very quiet. The hotel is very convienent, only a few blocks from the terminal and metro. While the neighborhood was a little run down, it was safe.

Hotel Contilia was an excellent choice. Very rarely can one find a three star hotel in Rome for this price. The room was quite small, but very clean and nicely decorates. The staff was very helpfull.

The hotel Contilia and the staff are wonderful and really made a good holiday into a WONDERFUL holiday the area is quite cosmapolitan, more young and trendy and lively with lots of locals rather than in the middle of the tourist areas.... but within easy reach to Everything, this hotel would cost an absolute fortune if in a more Affluent area, the area seemed very friendly and SAFE, even late at night..... with plenty of shops, places to eat ( I had the best Pizza ever just a couple of doors away) and a Laundrette and supermarket and banks all just a few steps away......... so i would highly recommend it, to ANY visitors to rome

The hotel was reasonable for the price. We are a family 2 adults + 2 children aged 10 & 12. We had a quad room so were a little squashed with 4 beds in the room, a sofa bed would have been better. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day, with fresh towels provided. The rooms were a little shabby and dark, not helped by single overhead lighting, and small repairs needed in places eg shower holder broken, bed surround broken. It appeared the hotel was being improved while we were there (new fire doors being fitted), but there was no intrusive building noise. The rooms were very quite, helped by the hotel being in a side road. The breakfast was sufficient - cereal, rolls, croissant, ham, cheese, jams, milk, tea, coffee. The bar area was bare with a few tables and chairs, to the side of the reception, so not easy to relax in. The hotel location was good for tourists: close to main train terminal and metro and plenty of places to eat. Overall, we were visting Rome for three nights site seeing and wanted to keep costs down so this was suitable for our needs.

Contilia is a nice hotel, the hotel's location to the Termini being it's most attractive quality. The standard of the rooms was very good and the staff very welcoming. We enjoyed a pleasant stay in the Contilia.

The location of the hotel is excellant for site seeing as you are located beside Termini where you can get both metro lines and all local buses. The rooms are cleaned every day and the area has a good choice of places to eat at reasonable prices. And if you are looking for somewhere to stay at a reasonable price which won't blow your budget so you can spend the rest on food & drink I'd recommend this Hotel.

I am happy to have now a good reference for my next trip to Rome. It is a shame not to have such a hotel on other cities too. Only one thing to say. It is a good reference.

Thank you! Our stay in Roma was very pleasant. Hotel Contilia was very convenient for us -- near both the trainstation and subway. We also appreciated the 5% discount for paying with cash.

Contilia is a very clean hotel with very good and polite staffing. The staff tried to answer all of our questions. Contilia does have a small lift for your luggage which is very helpful. The room was very small with a very firm bed. On the other hand, it looks great and the bathroom is nice with a small shower. The location is 5-8 minutes from Termni and 15-20 minutes from Colosseum and other main attractions. My general review, Contilia is a very nice place with nice people in a decent location. They earn their three stars.
