The hotel was quite pleasant and clean but the room was very small with a fairly small double bed also, considering how expensive it was. The furnishings in the bedroom had all seen better days. I felt that overall it was a 3 star hotel charging a 4 star price and would be unlikely to stay there again. I booked it on the basis of several glowing reviews on TripAdvisor but don't really think they were justified.

Not a smart location, but not as bad as proximity to Termini might suggest. Once inside space is excellent. We had a vast duplex 'suite' almost, for a family of four, at very reasonable cost. Charming breakfast room on roof.

This was a special 'Birthday Present' for my husband who always wanted to visit Rome. It was our first visit and everything about the trip was excellent. The hotel staff very friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to a lovely room and my husband received a handwritten birthday message with bottle of wine for his birthday - this really made the visit special. The hotel room was always clean and fresh. Hotel offers an adequate buffet breakfast and has a lovely roof garden. It is well placed for visiting all the important sights of Rome. A wonderful trip.

Our room, although spacious, faced the front of the hotel and was quite noisy with the window open. The A/C had been turned off by the hotel and the room would get stuffy at night. We borrowed a fan and it helped. The breakfast was quite good and the hotel was 5-10 min. walk from the train station

What a nice surprise this hotel was. Being Rome, close to the railway station, reasonable price etc, my expectations were moderate to low. However, right from their "personal" response to my on-line booking through to our departure, everything was great. Reception staff had very good English and were friendly, pleasant and helpful. My partner had a leg injury and we needed a good restaurant close by with easy access and the recommendation by Reception staff was top class (and reasonably priced). Although in an old building, there have been lots of renovations to the more public spaces - new lobbies, new lift - and the restaurant/bar and rooftop garden areas are large, light and spacious, with lots of lovely greenery in the surprisingly extensive outdoor area. Food at breakfast was plentiful and varied and fresh. Staff once again friendly and accommodating. Rooms were a reasonable size for our short stay and the bed was comfortable, having a sheet as well as a doona so it was easy to regulate sleeping temperatures to personal taste. Bathroom was a bit small, but very clean. Internet access was a bit difficult to arrange (especially if there were people checking in or out) because there was only one person on duty and they had to do everything including allocate access to your computer. But if you're not in too much of a hurry you can eventually get connected. A small niggle in an otherwise positive and enjoyable experience.

A nice little hotel in a convenient, if slightly scruffy neighborhood, but a cute little restaraunt right across the road. Nice clean rooms with high ceilings, 3 blocks to the train station. The breakfast room and patio was a delightful surprise! We enjoyed breakfast on a sunny patio surrounded by lemon trees and foliage; a highlight! Very friendly front-desk staff.

I had never been to Rome before and once I got past the sticker price of hotels, searched for good value and decent location. In comparison we got just that. The ease of moving around Rome by bus and subway was due to the location of this clean and friendly hotel. Great value considering high cost of hotels in Rome. We found one little restaurant we enjoyed nearby after full days of seeing this wonderful city. Adequate breakfast with great cappucino on the rooftop terrace (no view but charming) and friendly professional staff added value to the stay.

Great location close to the train station, metro, and bus routes. Besides that, really everything (Pantheon, Trevi fountain, Spanish Steps, Colosseum, Forum, etc.) was within walking distance if you want to walk. Easy Metro trip and short walk from there to Vatican City. Direct express train from the airport to the train station. Even though the price in US$ was high, it was still a good value given other options. Loved the roof top garden area, and breakfast was great, with good service as well.

The location of the Hotel is super. Very close to Roma Termini Stazione and Metropolitana. We arrived 9 am and were instantly given a room - which was very convenient. Only later we found out that this was the smallest room in the hotel. The walls in the Columbia are very thin - you can hear almost everything. Service at reception and in breakfast room are very nice and friendly. Delicous breakfast buffet. Lovely breakfast room and roof terrace. I visited Roma over the Easter weekend. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. It had a very nice LCD TV. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and spacious by European standards. It had plenty of towels, soaps etc. Free wireless internet too. Reception was very polite and helpful. It was located a couple blocks from the train station, which was what I was looking for. My room faced the back of the hotel and had no view, but that wasn't a concern for me. Very safe hotel. I would definitely stay here again

I think the hotel probaly caters to average middle class Americans and people from all over the world. I found the hotel, surroundings and staff to be very enjoyable. I was a little disappointed at the size of our room considering the price. We could barely turn around in it. But it wasn't all that important, because we were only there to shower, dress, and sleep. The hotel was close to 2 metro stations & lots of restaurants and that was very important.

The hotel columbia was very neat and clean. The breakfast was good. The staff was very welcoming and helpful with travel hints, directions, and restaurant ideas. My husband is 6'7 and the room was big with high ceilings and he fit in the bed (not perfect, but pretty well). Showers are weird but are hot and clean. And the hotel is pretty affordable. It was very easy to get to historic sites and use the train station/subway/tour buses/walk to see everything we wanted to see from this hotel. If you don't like long walks...find another hotel.

Nice Hotel, English speaking friendly staff. Short walk to from train station, and close enough to walk into town. No complaints, we really enjoyed our stay. Our room rate of 168 made it the most expensive hotel we stayed in in Italy. And I don't think it did enough to command that rate. I assume all Hotels in Rome charge over the odds.

Our stay in Rome was for a well deserved vacation. Our general experience at Hotel Columbia was very good. The staff were very kind and accommodating to our needs and even facilitated communication on our behalf with a problem with a tour group company. The breakfast and roof top dining experience was excellent. My request for a non-smoking room was met, but a room with a view was not. Further, our room was next to the elevator and we could hear all the hotel guests coming and going. I feel the bed was rather hard and the price for a 3-star hotel was rather expensive.

We had a delightful stay at the Columbia. As a family of four with two teenage girls, the quad room - actually a suite with a second room up a spiral staircase - was extremely practical, comfortable and charming. It was also spotlessly clean. The high power hairdryer was a life-saver when we got wet through one morning. Breakfasts were excellent - good coffee, real hot chocolate, boiled eggs, cold cuts, pastries, even cake - and the rooftop garden tables a delight when it wasn't raining. The location is ideal for walking around the historic center, very close to the National Museum and the railroad station. While the prices are high by US standards, they aren't out of line for central Rome, and remember they include taxes and breakfast. This was the nicest hotel we stayed in on our brief stay in Italy (we were also in Pompeii, Florence, and Pisa). We'd be very happy to have the opportunity to stay there again.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Columbia for one night, the day before our flight out of Rome. We picked it for it's close proximity to the train station. It is very close to the train station and it was an easy walk with all of our luggage. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The interiors were modern and clean. The room and hallways had new carpeting. There was a flat screen TV in the room (with CNN). The bed wasn't as firm as I like. The breakfast buffet was fine. We stayed at the hotel for eight days, and it is the best value we have ever found in Rome. It is very well located, near the train station and a number of good reasonably-priced restaurants. Our room was incredibly quiet and everything in it worked. In good weather the very full breakfast is served on a very pleasant open deck. The staff was attentive and when a lightbulb blew in our room it was changed immediately. The outside of the hotel is unimpressive, but a little paint would fix that, and once you are a guest it's completely irrelevant. This hotel is a real gem.

The Hotel Columbia was just right for our week-long stay. A hard-working,multi-lingual, friendly & accommodating staff is there to help. The location was very convenient to restaurants, shops, some sights, and transportation. The rooms were clean, quiet, comfortable and had a full bathroom. We stayed in a double bedded room at the back on floor three. The elevator was an unexpected bonus to all floors. The room was quiet. Very attractive feature of roof garden area for breakfast and evening drink in the quiet bar.Breafast was plentiful with reasonable choice. Very pleasant staff with ready smiles and greetings at all times. Easy to find and walk to with the directions you supplied and we (60 year old English couple) walked almost everywhere but did make some use of the daily metro/bus ticket and one taxi when the A metro closed at 9.00pm, which caught us out. We did not have enough time in two and a half days to see all we wanted to so plan to come back and would certainly consider returning to the Columbia. One small, unpleasant incident happened to one of our friends before we met them at the Collosseum one morning. Some gypsy-like women with babies were gathered on the steps which lead down to the road round the Collosseum and manhandled our 40 year old lady friend, who is incidently, a probation officer. Money was extracted from her jeans front pocket as she was jostled and her arm was held but she reacted very forcibly, shouted at them and they handed her money back saying she had dropped it.She was very angry about the incident and we also felt shocked by the boldness of the attempted theft and were watchful to avoid similar characters, This made us feel a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable as we are trusting folk. We thought the prices of accommodation in Rome was very high compared to similar rooms in Sorrento.

Well, this hotel has a great staff! The breakfast was very good. Our room was in the back and very quiet, with lot’s of space. The one area of opportunity we felt about this hotel was that the rooms need some updating! Everything seemed less clean than it was, so some fresh paint and new fabrics would really make this a top three star in Rome! The area is good and is very close to the terminal, which is good if you ride the train to or from the airport. In addition, if you plan to ride the underground, there is a station close to the hotel too. Restaurants near the hotel are good, but pricy. To eat a good nice meal with a good value, go to the Spanish Steps area. We had good luck there. Again, take the underground to the stop at the steps. Also, if you plan to rent a car when leaving Rome, then being near the Terminal is very helpful for this need. Lastly, to get to the Vatican, the Underground gets you there in about 6 stops. I would say the location of this hotel is perfect to get around Rome with ease. I would also say the staff makes this hotel a joy to visit and a deal for Rome!

More expensive than the B&Bs we had stayed in up to this point. The desk service and large free breakfast (which was very good) were nice but wouldn't induce me to stay here again over lower cost options. A nice wee hotel, on first impressions from the outside you think "Oh No !" as it is a little bit grubby and very sixties looking, complete with broken neon name sign, the exterior could do with a fresh coat of paint, there are two closed down, and run down businesses on either side of the main entrance, but don't judge a book by the cover, inside is kept nice and clean, very friendly and helpful staff, English language is no problem, very good location to explore the city and only a few minutes walk from the main bus terminal (Termini).A good continental breakfast is served in the morning, Rooms are what I expected for inner city Rome, bathrooms are clean and fresh, room and bathroom are serviced daily. It has a television but you only get CNN, and BBC World news stations, so I hope you like news. It's ok for a two night break, but you may be fed up if you stay longer. Nothing for Kids to do in the hotel if your travelling with kids/teenagers, Value for money was ok-ish, I didn't feel the hotel was too expensive for what it was and the service was excellent.

This hotel was absolutely ideal for exploring Rome. The hotle was only a very short walk from Termini and although the area around Termini can be a unpleasant, this hotel was in a nice street and there was no trouble. The only thing i could complain about was the air conditioning in the room, I would swear that it blew out hot air! However, we left the window open on our second night which made for a much more comfortable night!.

Hotel Columbia was about a 10 minute walk from the train station (we took the train from the Rome airport). This was our first time in Rome and we found the Hotel location convenient: about a 25 minute walk to the Coliseum and ancient Rome, close to City Tour buses that originate from the train station. I would stay at the Hotel Columbia again. It was very clean and the hotel staff very polite.

The young lady who registered us was very accomodating and friendly. The room was clean and spacious. The continental breakfast and service were very good. The only criticism I would make is that the other receptionists during our three day stay were not friendly. In fact they never even smiled when handing us the room key.

Breaksfast was excellent and the staff there was wonderful. Charming little porch area. Location was great. Was fiar price and nice accomadations for Rome.

The location of the hotel was excellent, very close to Termini station. The reception staff were very efficient and approachable. The room was very clean and comfortable. The only complaint I would have is that the hotel is not that quiet - you hear doors banging a lot and also the showers/toilets from other rooms.

The room was huge in comparison to other rooms we had in Italy. The air conditioning was the best as well. The concierge was extremely helpful. Breakfast was outstanding in selection and service--and the rooftop setting made it even more enjoyable. Located very near the main train station--easy to get to without the need for taxi or public transportation. And easy to get to the subway system and busses as well. Many nearby restaurants. A lift for all 5 floors makes life easy. We cannot say enough good things about the Columbia.

Slightly more expensive, but not bad for a big city. Rooms were small but nice. Very comfortable and not at all noisy. Conveniently located, close to the train station and in a safe area. Breakfast was included and better than standard (breads, coffee, eggs, assorted meats). We booked 8 hotels thru venere.com and all of them turned out as were advertised.

Great hotel for the price. It had a great AC system that kept us cool even though outside was in the 90's. Location is good because it is by the metro and bus terminal to get almost anywhere is the city pretty fast. If you want to be near a more popular area this is not the hotel for you, but if you just need a good home base while visiting the sites I would strongly recommend this hotel.

We were very pleased with our rooms at the Columbia. Although small, they were clean, quiet and air-conditioned. We loved the rooftop garden for breakfast and drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is handy, since you can walk to the train station, although you have to walk a while or take the metro to get to most of the tourist sites.

Great location. Train, subway, and bus terminals are 2 to 3 blocks from hotel. If you fly into Rome, take train to main terminal,9.50 euros for a ticket, vs around 80 euros for a taxi. Staff very friendly, and helpful. Met owner, who was very pleasant and appreciated our stay at the hotel. Manableable walking distances to Trevi Fountain, Coloseum, Forum,Piazza Venezia, popular shopping streets etc. Vatican and areas near there a pretty good walk, but taking bus or subway will take care of this. Inexpensive too-1 Euro per ticket. Noise from street can be a bit of a problem, but with windows closed, no problem. Resturants in area are very good, and mostly reasonable. Would stay here again!!!

This was our first time in Rome and we did not really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that our room was quiet and were able to sleep well. The person on duty was very competent and spoke 6 languages! She even arranged to have a breakfast in a bag brought to our room the night before since we were leaving on an early flight and would miss the usual breakfast time. The room was small but I think that Americans are spoiled by the supersizing of everything including hotel rooms and I think that since we spent very little time in our room, it was more than adequate (and it was quiet!)

The Hotel Columbia was a perfect place to stay in Rome.We arrived at the airport and took the train in to Roma. From there you can walk to the hotel,so bring luggage with rollers. The taxis are a total rip off.The front desk welcomed us and showed us to a spacial room that over looked the street. The building across the way way having some work done so there was a lot of banging and crashing while we were there.Of course that's a seasonal thing, and it didn't totally ruin the mood. The front desk gave us ideas for dinner-great restaurants,tours-the most beautiful city to tour and how to manouver the subway which a block away and costs a euro one way. When I go back to Rome which isnt soon enough,I will stay at The Hotel Columbia.A perfect spot in Roma.

The hotel is an easy five minute walk from the train station. From the front of the train station, turn left and cross the street. Now face to your right and go 1 1/2 blocks to the street just past the art museum, which is surrounded by a metal fence. Turn left. The hotel is one block down on your right. We stayed here five nights. It was my third choice because we were here over New Year's Eve and I couldn't get reservations five nights in a row at the first two hotels. Of the four hotels we stayed at in Italy the two weeks we were there, this was the smallest room and the most expensive. We paid "tourist season" rates for our whole stay, but should have gotten a discount the last night and didn't. My husband paid the bill and I forgot to inform him the rate was not the same for the last night but he wasn't willing to go through the hassle for 15 euros. The complimentary breakfast was good and bountiful, but the only thing hot is the beverages. Anke, the day receptionist, made a dinner reservation for us at a nice, moderately priced restaurant right across the street behind the Washington snack bar. It's downstairs. I'd recommend it. Great location for touring the city on foot.

The Columbia is a VERY easy walk from the Termini train station. We waited in line for a cab for 30 minutes, had a 7 Euro charge, and when we woke up in the morning and walked to the station, we realized how close we were. It might be difficult in the dark to find the hotel, but the walk is less than 5 minutes and easy to do in daylight. So, on the one hand, it is well located for easy train and metro access, but being that close has its drawbacks (there was a homeless woman sleeping on the street one door away from the hotel). Nonetheless, we had enjoyed the hotel, had a very nice breakfast and considering Rome prices, it was as good a value as I could find. Comfortable room, nice towels, great shower, and an elevator!!! I had originally booked the Columbia because it was so close to the train station intending to take the train to the airport, but the hotel arranged a cab for us (leaving at 6 am) for 40 euro which did not seem unreasonable given the distance, price of train ticket and not having to schlep luggage. Very kind and helpful staff.

We found the hotel to be exactly as described. The receptionists were very helpful and able to provide tips about tour buses. The room was comfortable and it was possible to sleep with the windows open. Breakfast provided a really good range of food and the service was very good on the roof terrace in the evening. Lots of places to eat nearby and quite easy to walk to all the main sites in the city. It was very hot this October, 25C, and we would have liked to take breakfast on the terrace but we were told that we could not do that. To be fair, the online information did say that this facility was available in the Summer but it would have been a lovely way to start the day.

The photos make the hotel seem much more spacious and 'glamorous' than it really is. That said, it was nevertheless quite nice. We unfortunately got a very tiny room. We didn't try to change rooms so we don't know how thatwould have worked. Perhpas ASK for aroom in the fron of the building...they all seemed to be bigger than the back rooms. Great central location easily accessible to 2 metro stops and the terminal...great for an early AM airport departure. The staff was wonderful: very helpful making dinner rservations, suggested a breakfast bag/takeout as we were departing early; sent complimentary champagne to the room (having noted that we were celebrating a special event during our stay). Tho I had forgotten about it they do have a very accommodating afternoon bar 9wine/coffe, etc) service on the terrarce/internal sitting room. A nice comfortable place that we we recommend to others.

Our double room was great--a king sized (2 twins made up as 1) bed which was firm & comfortable. Location is perfect for those using rail station (2 blocks away), and the desk person, Anka, was fantastic. She took extra time and effort to make our visit to Rome really special: restaurant recommendations, tour walks, etc. The breakfast (very good) room personnel were helpful and welcoming. A pretty hotel in a lively neighborhood--lots to explore; bus and metro stations within a block. A super value!

Hotel Columbia is easy to walk to from the train station. Don't worry! There are lots of tourists in that area pulling their luggage through the streets. No on will even notice you. The Columbia desk staff are very nice. We especially enjoyed the roof terrace--great place to have breakfast or an evening cocktail. Note that there is a mini supermarket a block away (underground, in a small mall), as well as a street vendor who sells fruit, booze, drinks. The rooms in the Columbia were not stellar, the walls need painting, but it was clean. You can walk to most tourist sites (Colosseum is 10 minutes away, National Museum and Baths of Diocletian 5 minutes, Palazzo Barberini 10 minutes).

We stayed in May for 5 nights and then after staying in Sorrento returned for 2 more nights before flying out of Rome. We rented 2 rooms each time. The first stay our sons got a good room in the back away from the street. We ended up in a smaller room near the front street- Via Del Viminale which is quite noisy at night and because the air conditioning was not turned on yet we had to leave the windows open. They were very good about getting us a fan which cooled the room and cut the noise. Our sons had no such problem in the rear away from the street. Our second stay was much better as they moved us to a larger room in the rear and the air had been turned on. The best part of this hotel was the rooftop garden patio which was great for breakfast (excellent assortment) and as a refuge from the craziness of Rome. The staff was also most helpful and pleasant. I would stay again and recommend it.

We had a great stay at Hotel Columbia. My father lost his luggage and the staff were very helpful, calling the airline and checking on the status of his bag. We stayed there twice during our trip to Italy, in the beginning and end of the trip. It was by far the nicest place we stayed. The rooms were clean, and the bathroom was very spacious. The breakfast was very good, with lots of selection. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Its location is very close to the Termini train station, and within walking distance to the Forum and Colosseum. It was quite a bit more expensive than the other hotels we stayed in, but perhaps that is just b/c Rome is more expensive overall. I would definitely stay there again, and recommend it to others.

A good hotel ideally located to walk to all the sights in Rome (also close to the metro if traveling a bit further (the vatican for example). The hotel was easy to fin walking from the train station. The rooms were clean and the linen changed regularly, if the rooms were a little small. Breakfast was great with a wide choice we have not been offered in other hotels.
