This was our third visit to Rome, first staying at the Colosseum - we choose a different area each time. It took us a little longer than 5 mins to walk from Termini Station but was certainly very convenient to it. If you wish to visit the ancient sites near the Hotel you are certainly staying in the right place. The front desk staff were immensely helpful with advice on using public transport and organising museum tickets. The room was spotless and the bathroom recently re done and was more than adequate for a 3 star hotel. The breakfast was adequate but we would have both enjoyed some fresh fruit but in the scheme of things that is minor. Internet access was good, albeit for a charge. We walked around at night and felt perfectly safe.

This is a very average hotel. The walls between the bedrooms are paper thin, luckily for us our neighbours were pretty quiet but if there had been children or noisy guests it would have been a nightmare trying to sleep. The bathroom was outdated and mould covered the tiles in the shower, there was dust too in the bathroom and the extractor fan hadn't been cleaned for a considerable time. The air conditioning was fantastic as were the black out blinds and the bed was very comfortable. I understand that we paid a premium because we were there at a peak time to watch the football but I expected a better all round hotel for the money. we absolutely loved Rome but the hotel could have been better. To put the top hat on our stay we ordered a taxi from reception which didn't turn up, the concierge then made several phone calls (spanning around 40 mins) and eventually a 'car' turned up - not a taxi, we then experienced one of the most scary rides of our lives where we were driven to the airport in a car with the driver screaming at the top of his voice down the phone - making several calls and driving like a lunatic. Please make your transfer arrangements in plenty of time or you too will end up missing your flight home - as we did (i'd now recommend taking the train!)

This was our (self, wife, 2 children 8 and 5 yrs) first trip to Rome and was extremely brief, but certainly enhanced by everything about Hotel Colosseum. The hotel is simple, clean, friendly and comfortable- not lacking in any way that we found. The location turned out to better than expected (qualitative) and the logistics of the location are super: 5 minute walk to Metro stop and one stop from Termini. The front desk recommended a restaurant just one block away (direction Santa Maria Maggiore)where we had a simple but delicious lunch just after our arrival- the pasta was so perfect! They were very nice and we returned later that evening to just buy icecream and a bottle of wine to go. Enjoyed those on the rooftop garden in the evening-perfect! The hotel staff was warm, welcoming, helpful and the breaksfast "ladies" couldn't be more sweet and caring towards our children. The room was extremely clean, comfortable and the quiet location made it very comfortable to open the windows at night. The room's airconditioning worked very well. The rooftop garden was even more of a beautiful bonus than imagined.

Would recommend to anyone who can afford it!:)Definitely worth it, especially the beautiful terrace on the 8th floor!

Biggest problem was the location. Even our taxi driver had a great deal of difficulty finding it. Also, since the best access was actually up a steep hill (on foot), you really should warn people. Another problem was that there was a step up into the bedroom area from the entry and it was not flagged, so I nearly broke my leg falling off it. A third problem was the fact that, unless you were up on the roof, there was no view, although the on-line ad implied that it was in a great location for views.

Very small room, but adequate for a short visit to Rome. Walking distance to the Forum, etc. and the main rail station. I would consider staying again under similar circumstances (travelling alone and not worried about the hotel, other than somewhere clean to stay the night).

Although the hotel was lovely and the location great, quiet and convienent, the staff was very cold and unwelcoming. The payment process was confusing, especially since they waited until we were leaving at the crack of dawn to question our assumption that the room was prepaid.

We stayed at the Hotel Colosseum for 3 nights and were extremely pleased with our accomodations. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was spacious. The hotel was right off the main road and very quiet. The location was excellent as we were only a couple of blocks from the Colosseum and about a block to the metro. The staff was very helpful and welcoming.

If you are looking for a professionally-run, tourist-friendly hotel within walking distance of the train station and the Colosseum, this one is for you. It is not grand or luxurious, but since I don't spend much time in the room when I'm in Rome, that works for me. I found the staff very pleasant and helpful. The property is located on a side street, so even rooms on the front are not very noisy. In the back, it is very quiet.

It was a nice looking hotel in Italian style, the room was nice, but small. The staff was excellent and very helpful. the breakfast was poor, that was the worst thing about the hotel. I ate breakfast once, the other mornings I went to the city centre to buy breakfast.

The only good thing about this hotel is its situation close to Termini station. First impression of dark and hot reception and unwelcoming staff was quite depressing. Slow elevator, gloomy view, very small bathroom with shower door making such a strong noise every time you open it that everybody on the floor hears completed a picture of 2-star hotel (that is maximum you would give). Room itself has nothing to do with the website picture, its in fact was looking very worn. The moment we entered, entrance door's retrieving mechanism got broken. I asked to change the room but was told that it is the best room (can not imagine how the worst one looks), but was promised that problems doors will be taken care of, which never happened. After I told about my unhappiness with the service I got the answer "what do you expect from 3-star hotel". By the way that hotel was the worst and most expensive one....we stayed at other hotels in Florence, Venice, Milan...all 3-stars and all cheaper and all much better with bigger rooms, decent bathrooms with bath actually and with complementary inernet as well...not to mention reacher breakfast. I would not recommend to stay at that hotel...if you want 2-star service you can find it much cheaper that 145 euro.

This was the first time at hotel Colosseum. The hotel is centrally located but situated on a very quiet street away from traffic. The hotel is also just a short walk from the Termini train station. The room and bathroom were a bit small but overall the room was comfortable and very quiet. Breakfast was average, I would suggest to add more items to it but overall it was a nice breakfast room with friendly staff. This hotel is a perfect choice for those who want to be close to main attractions but still want a quiet hotel away from traffic.

We were very happy overall. We booked a triple room and we were given a 7th floor apartment which contained a double room and a single room each with access to a spacious balcony and a small corridor to clean bathroom. From the balcony (with a large table and three chairs) we had a lovely view of the Colosseum both day and night and we could see Capitoline Hill and St Peters in the distance. The rooms were not spacious but we did not expect this for a 3 star hotel at such a reasonable price. The rooms were clean and the shower worked very well. We knew that we would need some air conditioning in July and it worked fine (for our afternoon siestas). It was much quieter than we expected for a city centre hotel. The only noise was some church bells (very pleasant ones) and the air conditioner when it was running. This is the advantage of being in a side street with a military building opposite (where they raise the flag and play the anthem each morning). Our view was so good that we did not need to use the roof terrace upstairs, but it too was lovely. Being on the upper floor we did not need to use air con at night because there was a lovely breeze. The breakfast was OK, limited cereal with milk which was not cold enough and sweet croissants or pastries. However, the cappuccinos were excellent and staff very efficient. The lift/elevator was the only poor part of the hotel. It is amazingly slow for a 7 floor hotel. Reception staff were helpful enough without being obtrusive. The location is very central for Ancient Rome. It is just off Via Cavour, maybe 100 metres from Cavour Metro station and the 75 or 84 bus. We arrived in Termini station and took the Metro 1 stop to Cavour but we found out that it was uphill from Via Cavour to either end of Via Sforza, where the hotel is situated. The easiest approach is downhill from Termini to Santa Maria Maggiore and take Via Paolina (SW side of church) which leads directly into Via Sforza - this is slightly downhill.

Nice hotel in a perfect location. High floors are renovated and very very nice. Lower floors are older style, but everything works and the rooms were very clean. Easy to get to the station and the rooftop terrace shows a panoramic view of Rome. Only the breakfast was not the most exciting - but was made up for by the very welcoming waitresses who greeted every guest with a smile and were extremely helpful. I would gladly stay at the hotel again.

If you are a retired finnish couple, this hotel is for you. 24 hours everybody are whispering and tell you keep silent please! Asking for changing my shoes and so on, I was shoked to hear all that things from the staff, I travel a lot and its not my first time in Rome, but nobody ever asked me to change shoes!!!When you go to Rome you need to be sure that its not a quiet city...and I think if I were looking for the quiet I would go to Finland not to Italy.

It was a pretty good place. Not fabulous, but things in Rome may be like this. If you have kids, it is great because they can play on the roof which overlooks the city. It was clean which was a must. The people at the front desk speak enough English. The rooms are small, but quite and can be made VERY dark if you want to sleep in.

we loved the location of this hotel. It was only minutes away from Santa Maria Maggiore & many of the tour buses. We also found excellent food at nearby restaurants. We also enjoyed the very fresh bread delivered every morning for breakfast & the made to order cappuccinos. I was a bit surprised to read so many negative comments about the breakfasts, as we enjoyed the fresh bread & pastries every morning very much. There again I don't like re hydrated burgers on a soggy bun, for those that wanted McDonald's. The staff were very helpful in booking us trips & had the shuttle bus come pick us up at the hotel to go to the Vatican & a day trip to Pompei.

the colosseum hotel is ok, not far from the termini station and right behind the Santa Maria Maggiore It is also located near metro Cavour. The room was clean but not very big, I guess for Rome it is standard. Nice view on the top terrace from which you can admire the colosseum.

We looked for a hotel close to the Termini and found this to be a good choice. The room, which was on the 7th floor, was small but it had a balcony from where you could see the Colosseum and Santa Maria Maggiore, and the view over the rooftops was very pretty. We stayed for three days, walked all over the place and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would come back to this hotel again.

A very nice stay. The rooms were spacious and clean. About a 10 minute walk to the Coliseum and Forum. Many nearby excellent restaurants and shops. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only caution is that the entrance is in an alleyway that is accessed by climbing about 30 steps. There was construction that made it difficult to reach by cab.

Hotel was clean, attractive & well managed. Breakfast was good and ample. Management was helpful. Short walk to train station. There were 3 entrances to street Via Sforza. Off of Cavour one was short, steep hill, one was steep stairs. Entrance from St. Maggori Square was flat. Restaurants and Metro nearby. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Much of Rome is rather dirty and dark and the area surrounding the hotel dirty and dark, but seemed very safe.
Singapore, Oct 2007
To whom it may concern As the rooms are located close to one another, it is rather noisy when other guests' enter or leave their rooms and especially when they climb the stairs Lifts are not working efficiently i.e. you can only go to one floor at a time Reception staff not able to communicate fluently with us when we spoke to them in English We booked taxi (via reception) from hotel to Ciampino airport but during our journey when we reminded the driver which airport we are going, he immediately contacted another driver to come and fetch us - so we had to change car and luckily we allow ample time to arrive at the airport and luckily we did not miss our flight We feel 3 star hotel in Rome is not up to our expectations In future, if I visit Rome again, I will choose 4 or 5 star hotel Rgds June

ok, so I know Rome is a city where you have to spend a lot to get great quality, but I was very disappointed in our stay at the coliseum hotel. I will start with the staff. The only guy at front desk we thought was nice was the overnight front desk clerk. Other than that they would take our key from us when we left the room or take our passport from us and stick it in a slot behind the desk, but completely visible. I don't know if it was just us, but I did not feel safe with my key back to my country just sitting behind his front desk. Next, Lurch took us up to our room in the small, slow elevator. We got to our "double" room to find 2 twin beds. We pushed them together ourselves and removed the old outdated comforters. The next day they realized we pushed the beds together and gave us one larger sheet instead of 2 twins. The roof area was a nice place to sit and see Rome with a glass of wine and book. We felt more comfortable up there than in our room. The light fixtures looked like something out of the Adam's Family and don't expect any lights in the hallways. You have to turn them on yourself when you come and go. The room itself was an ok size but it could just use some updating. I can see what they were going for with the look but a coat of paint and new bedding would be nice. The bathroom was gross to me. It needed to be totally redone. The location was close to the train, old rome, st maggiore square and some nice restaurants. Far from everything else. We did not like walking to sites at night from this location although the street it was on was nice and quiet. 11 Euros per day for air conditioning. The only place we stayed in Italy that charged for air. Breakfast is another story. Let's just say we skipped it our last day in hopes of finding a McDonalds. If you like yogurt that has been sitting out all morning and warm milk in your cereal you are good. Besides that all you got were rolls and croissants and maybe a donut. And do not look for orange juice. The

We have just returned from our 3 day trip to Rome. I booked this lovely little hotel for me, my boyfriend and another couple and was impressed! The hotel is tucked away from the main road of Via Cavour, and is situated 10 min walk to Termini and to the Colosseum itself! The area is busy being close to Termini. But from our rooms, all we heard was the church bells in the morning!!! Its ideal if you wish to jump on the sightseeing bus from Termini or spend the morning at the Colosseum and easy to find once you get your barings! The 3* hotel itself was very clean and well presented, the room was immaculate; had a big bed and TV, ample room for the wardrobe and a safe, the bathroom was immaculate too; clean all round, shower was great. Air conditioning is available (it is a saviuor in the heat!) and you can open the windows for extra air. Comparing all other hotels that are 3*, I would definitely say I came across a great place for £116 for the room per night. You can pay more for a 3* depending on location, but Via Cavour area is ideal. I would defintely recommend this hotel to any couples planning to visit. The roof terrace is spectacular to see, especially early in the morning before a light brekkie and coffee downstairs in the Breakfast Room. Ladies who served brekkie were cool and helpful, reception guys could have been more attentative - but we we werent too fussed as we were hardly around. All that mattered was that the hotel was a lovely little Haven for us after a hard day of walking... and walking... and eating!

Nice hotel, very conveniently located (metro Cavour, Sta Maria Maggiore, Forum). 1-They did NOT know of our arrival. 2-They did NOT accept the agreed price and we had to huggle. 3-There was a fire alarm at night and they could NOT explain why with the consequence that they could NOT reassure me that it was only a mistake. 4-There was NO passage for handicapped/child prams so that we had to lift our pram up and down the stairs of the hall (staff did NOT help). 5-Furthermore, the lift was so narrow we had trouble going up and down with our pram. 6-Even though NO room had been reserved for us before arrival and they could see we had a pram with a baby in it and another very young child, they gave us a room on the 6th floor (one floor less that the top) which made the lift obligatory and also quite a troubled night with going up and down the stairs on foot with children in our arms when the fire alarm rang. 7-they did NOT call the taxi when agreed so that we were late. 8-they write that it takes five minutes walking from Termini station to the hotel and it is NOT so.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Colosseum. The balcony and terrace were great places to unwind after sightseeing. The location was prime (only 10 min walk to Colosseum and many restaurants - we really liked Pizzeria Legno al Forno across from church (food, price and staff)). Angelo, the concierge, was very helpful and friendly. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends. The tour company used was OK - I would reccomend doing the Vatican City on your own as the tour was rushed.

the hotel's location is very convenient. 10 mins walk from Termini station and bus interchange station; also close to many amenities, like restaurants, shops, even a d.i.y. laundry, 15 mins walk to the Colosseum. hotel rates are high (it's high for most hotels anycase in Rome and rest of Italy) and the rooms are really small. the bathrooms are also very small, particularly the shower area. the breakfast is simple but adequate. the heater and air-con functioned okay. front desk staff generally will only answer questions when asked.

Hotel Colosseum was a great find in an excellent location, approximately 10 minutes leisurely walk to Termini. We stayed for 4 nights and dealt with three different gentlemen at reception, all very friendly and helpful with good English. The staff in the breakfast room were also very pleasant. The rooms are small, but I believe this is the case in all such hotels, they were perfectly clean with a nice view from the window. We were on the 6th floor and didn't hear a sound from outside, a definite plus as it's a pretty noisy city! All we heard was the sound of other guests in the corridor going to their rooms but no sounds from the rooms themselves. The view from the roof garden on the eighth floor was great by day and night. The bathroom was fine, the shower did go cold one morning but the hot water was back in a couple of minutes! Breakfast was lovely and consisted of yogurt, cereal, croissants, rolls and coffee, with tea on request. There isn't a restaurant at this hotel but we found L'Esquilino on Via Cavour, less than 10 minutes away, was excellent, and we visited it each night of our stay. One thing to bear in mind about this hotel is that three of the four approach roads are either up a fairly steep incline or up steps, the 4th from the direction of Termini is quite flat. This did not affect us and we found the location excellent, however it may be worth considering for anyone with mobility problems. As for the city itself - comfortable shoes are a must, you will walk miles. Overall, this hotel was perfect for us and we would definitely stay there again.

A bit more than we wanted to pay, however the hotel was lovely. Location was pretty good - close to the colleseum and the Metro. The rooftop terrace was wonderful. We stopped at a local grocery and purchased cheese, prociutto, bread and wine and the hotel supplied us with the glasses and table service for our little picnic. Wonderful!

The staff was very helpful. We were upgraded to a triple room but were only charged for a double. This was especially nice since the rooms are quite small. Standard hard bed to be expected from a 3 star in Italy. We had a lovely private terrace that had views of the entire city. The location was great, walking distance to practically everything we wanted to see. We had to take the metro to the Vatican, but that was fine since the hotel is an easy 10 minute walk from the train station.

We will definitely come back to Colosseum. When the triple room we ordered was unavailable due to a broken pipe we were allotted three single pleasant rooms for the first night of our stay. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, breakfast was very good, and the hotel was situated close to main attractions and metro.

We stayed several nights in three different rooms. Try to get a room on the back of the hotel as the front can have a lot of street noise (if windows are open). The staff was fantastic and very helpful. Our rooms were comfortable and priced well. Location is great - you can walk to everything from the Colliseum to the Trevi to the train and subway.

My stay was very pleasant. I had booked twice, one for my friend, and one for myself since I would join her a day later. My friend didn't encounter much hassle when she checked-in since they acknowledged my instructions that she will use my booking. Furthermore, they had initiative to give her the double room upon check-in so we didn't need to change rooms when I arrived. We appreciated this very much as we wanted a hassle-free vacation. Location is very close to bus stops and the Colosseum stop of the subway. Quiet street so you don't know that you are actually in the heart of tourist attractions.

This hotel was more I expected. The hotel itself was fabulous and the treatment above and beyond.Extremely clean and neat. Very well kept. Thank you. Yes, I would reccommend this hotel to anyone anytime. The downfall was a very poor breakfast--cold coffee and little variety. But, 2 blocks down the same street a wonderful cafe Le 2 Colonne a Santa Maria Maggiore,(indoor and out)that served all meals and was more then worth the morning walk.

Good location. Peaceful street away from traffic and crowds. Rooms and bathroom small but that's Europe. I felt for the cost it was fair value compared to other hotels in Rome. Only problem I had was that there was nowhere to sit with a friend who called round. The bar was shut and no visitors are allowed into the rooms, however, I would stay again.

A fabulous find. I was in Rome for one night, solo, and wanted a safe, clean and convenient hotel in which to stay. The hotel staff went out of their way to make my stay confortable. I had an early morning flight and needed to leave before breakfast was served. The hotel manager offered to serve me breakfast before their normal hours and followed up by phoning me in my room to hurry on down before my taxi was due to arrive. I strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a charming hotel in Rome.

We had a great stay at this hotel - the photos on the website were a good indication of the facilities. The hotel was in a quiet street and only ten minutes walk from the station and the main attractions of the Forum and the Colloseum. Our room and ensuite were very clean and the staff were helpful. The roof terrace and view were excellent. We would go again!!

Being used to American standards this hotel probably charges for its location however, the service and the facility are very medicore. The shower was leaking water and a little cramped. The staff was not particularly welcoming and spoke at the most on an as-needed basis.

We had an enjoyable stay at the Hotel Colosseum. Situated in a side street, away from the noise of traffic. Rooms were as expected for a 3 star hotel, very clean, comfortable bed, good shower, with hot water. Check out the view of Rome from the roof-top garden. Breakfast was adequate, juice, cereal, yogurt & bread rolls. Good location for visiting the major sites, i.e. 10 mins. walk to the Colosseum and the Termini Station, 20 mins. walk to the Spanish Steps & the Trevi Fountain.

Hotel was resonably convenient to main attractions and/or transport if you don't mind walking. Street was quiet. Staff very helpful when trying to book concerts or tours and breakfast was adequate. Photos are always better than the real thing. The rooftop garden is very pleasant with great views over Rome and a nice place to sit at sunset.

We had two rooms: both were quite small. The one in a middle floor was sad, whereas the other one was at the last floor (the 7th) and had a very nice view. Breakfast menu quite "essential"

Hotel Colosseum is a nice hotel. The staff is helpful, pleasant, and overall very nice. While they offer laundry service, they actually prefer that you walk it to the nearest laundry yourself. It´s just behind the hotel and not too far to walk. The rooms are very small. I had a double room and could not open the closet without moving the bed. The shower, as expected, was tiny; but it served the purpose. Overall Hotel Colosseum is an OK lodging experience, and if one doesn´t mind walking (and I do not mind) the hotel is nicely located. Thank you for your assistance in finding a place to stay in Rome. Marvin

We enjoyed our stay at the Colosseum very much and would highly ecommend it to everyone. The location is perfect. It is centrally located and you can be anywhere in Rome in a matter of minutes. The rooms were very clean and comfortable & the staff was excellent. They were very friendly and helpful, both in the hotel and with directions around the city and events. John R. Graziano

My mother and I stayed at the Colosseum in June 2006 and had the worst experience! The manager was pleasant, however the front desk staff were AWFUL. They were constantly yelling at me and my mother for asking questions of the services offered at the hotel or for directions. On the last day of five days after checking out and before our train left to come home, my mother was the victim of pick pocketing (be warned) and after spending close to $1000 Dollars in the hotel, we figured we could use the lobby house phone with a calling card that we purchased to call the credit card companies to cancel the cards. After making 5 calls with the calling card on the lobby house phone, the front desk man wanted us to pay 25 Euro's for "the use of the line". Mind you we just checked out that morning after staying there a week and just had her wallet stolen. So much for hospitality. After repeatedly requesting to speak to the manager and being denied that right, the front desk employee locked the door and threated to call the police. He then proceeded into a sreaming tyrade on my mother and cursing at her for about 5 minutes. Another guest was working the front door until it finally opened. We immediately left. He called my mother several names, such as Nigg@@, Bit@@, and many many more. There is no way that I would ever stay at this hotel, let alone go back to Rome. Nor would I ever recommend this hotel to anyone that I actually cared about, especially if they were 'of color'.

Hotel Colosseum is a very good hotel, my family and I will recomend this hotel to our friends if they are going to visit Rome. It was just as described placed in a quiet area with no traffic noise, and the roof terasse was a very good place to relax both in the middle of the day and in the late evening.

The location of the Hotel Colosseum was good for us since we wanted to visit some more obscure sights not in the historic center. It is located on the Esquiline Hill and has great views from a pleasant rooftop terrace. The desk clerks were pleasant and helpful. As two friends traveling together, we found the room (#44) small. Though the hotel is on a quiet side street, our street-side room did let in some street noise through our open windows. The view from our room across the rooftops was sunny and pleasant. The bathroom was small but well-appointed with a quarter-round shower. I returned alone a week later and stayed in another double room by myself (#50). This room faced the back, had an even better view, and was slightly larger and better arranged than room 44. The extra foot or two in each direction would have been useful for two sharing a room. The breakfast was good and included nice options of bread, rolls, cereal, yogurt, fruit, cheese, juices, and coffee.

This hotel is rated as a three-star, I would give it a one. The rooms were basic, to give it a compliment, the bathrooms were small, dark, and noisy( fan). The decor was depressing, and dated. As for the breakfast, what can you say about a place that serves a pre-packaged breakfast bun?

Two small issues: a) Uncleared tables on third morning at breakfast and shortage of uteklnsals and food/drink items at serving table (@ 09:00). I had to wait some time before I could start. b) On final day I asked to buy a coffee in the early afternoon and the man at hotel reception was less than pleased at my request. It was undertaken but he was not happy at having to arrange this for me.

The hotel's best feature is the roof terrace with excellent views of Rome, its a fair price but the rooms are small and breakfast basic but adequate. The hotel does not seem to have a bar in operation which would be an advantage. Our room was small but that was ok as the view from our window was very good yet the room did smell strongly of cigarette smoke and as a non-smoker ourselves this was unpleasant.
