Clean, good position especially if you need the main train station, easy ten minute walk to the main sights of Rome (Forum etc) be aware some of the rooms are very small.

As is true with most addresses in Venice, the hotel was difficult to find - the entrance was inside a courtyard that had no sign or address posted. The hotel staff did not speak English and communication was difficult. Internet was advertised but not working. Room was spacious - bathroom was especially so! Breakfast was good except for the coffee. All in all, a good experience with minor inconveniences.

Hotel Canova is a very welcoming 3 star hotel. It is in walking distance to the main sites of Rome, but far enough to have peace and quiet! We would reccommend this hotel for people who are on a budget. All the major sites of Rome are a mustto see, but if you have time why not visit the capuchin crypt and St Clemente (with an older church and pagan temple below!). And of course Giolitti is the best ice-cream parlour in Rome. We hope you enjoy Rome as much as we did.

The price versus location & quality of place is good. There have been comments about small room or bath but compared to any European standard this place is an average in sizes. If you are a budget traveler not spending more than mandatory sleeping hours in your room, this is the hotel to go. Like other visitors I also rate the friendliness very high. Train ticket from airport is 11 eur per head. If you are 3 or more, I would take a cab thru hotel.

Hotel Canova was a good hotel with a great staff! I received plenty of help with information on the surrounding area, tours and other such questions. Breakfast was available in the early morning with a rooftop setting that was nice. The rooms were spacious enough and the restroom was nice. The shower was a lot smaller than what I'm used to, but that is throughout all of Europe. If you stay at this hotel, be sure to eat at the L'Esquilino restaurant around the corner. They have great food and a nice staff! My overall rating for this hotel was good and I would consider it again if I was to go back to Rome.

The hotel has been very well renovated. It s very clean, but the rooms are so small ! The little terrace for the breakfast is nice, the breakfast is good. No room-service in the room. The location of hotel Canova is excellent, situated in one the best aerea in Roma (Rione Monti). I think I'll be back in this hotel for the cleanless and the aerea.

Hotel Canova is a few blocks from the train station (and several car rental companies) so very convenient for entering and leaving Rome. It is also just blocks from the magnificant Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, an easy walk to the Coleseium and Forum, and overall very well located for exploring the city on foot or by bus. The hotel is very nicely appointed - our room was nicely decorated, cozy and very comfortable, with a nice bathroom. Its also clean and well maintained. Hotel staff was friendly and generally helpful. Breakfast was very good, and was served in a beautiful roof deck area with both indoor and outdoor area that was really nice. At E110 per night we felt this was an excellent value and would definitely stay here again.

Reception staff excellent -very helpful & friendly. 80 euros for room in April 09, 2 ad, 1 child, age 4. Room how I expected it to be- enough space for us, clean, priv bath. Fridge and safe in room for no extra charge. 1 dbl bed and 1 sofa bed. Lots of buffet breakfast- juice, tea, coffee, pastries, cereals, cake, ham and cheese. Nothing cooked. Was 1 grumpy cleaner/breakfast lady when we came to breakfast late on last day, then checked out bit late -so, fair enough, but she needn't have been so vocal about her grumpiness -only thing that marred the stay. Walked 10mins to hotel from Termini. Taxi charges 18 euros -2 mins. Very quiet area, no traffic on hotel street, felt safe. Santa Maria church nearby -free & beautiful inside. Walked from hotel to Colloseum (15 mins)and all attractions, then bus back to Termini at end of day. Left all our luggage at reception all day after check out -reception staff were great!

Friendly staff and delicious breakfast in the morning! However, our room was not opened in awhile and had a terrible smell coming from it. The bathroom has no window so it was a not-circulated air that came out of it when you opened the door. The air conditioning was difficult to operate and shut off in the early morning by itself before we had left for breakfast. The map was very difficult to use and we had trouble getting there. If the map was better and the air quality in the room was different it would be a lovely place to stay. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

This was our 1st visit to Rome. Hotel Canova seems to be a little above what we expected via reviews and their website. It is located on a quiet back street. The room was small by America standards, but very clean. The bed seems to a typical hard Roman mattress. The elevator has room for only two people at at time. Using it required some strategy in getting our luggage to the third floor. We visited in late August and had several nights with the room temperature around 80 Degrees F. The last two nights the hotel managed to improve the temperature to about 72 degrees F. The desk staff (especially Franco) was very helpful with luggage, directions and general consultation about getting around Rome. The continental breakfast was just that and by the 4th day we needed to change our diet. The location was very good. It is near the bus terminal & Forum. There are seveal restaurants on the adjacent main street along with several ice cream shops. Because of its location and our familiarity with the hotel & surroundings, price & friendly staff, we would definitely stay here again.

We felt quite satisfied with the Hotel Canova. It is reasonably located in relation to Termini and the coloseum/ form areas. Take the small #117 bus into town, to Pza. di Spagna, Pza del Popolo and then back along Via Cavour. Quite clean, and comfortable, with very good beds and an adequate bathroom. Desk staff very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast OK, but no different than many or most hotels. Our room was reasonably quiet, with double glazed windows, but we also had the air con on- we weren't able to adjust its settings, though. Not a big deal. Good beds. Couple with a 14 year old son. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others. We might, if we had the option, stay closer to the downtown core, only to make walking out at night a more local experience, but Canova is just fine. I think that it is better to be downtown and make the trip out to the Forum, but that is only my preference. We were referred, by a gentleman at the desk, to a restaurant for dinner, Angelo da Napoli. He had their card, so I think they send many guests there. AVOID this restaurant. Easily the worst meal I have had in Italy. We had better food at several of the smaller restaurants south along Via Urbana, towards the forum.

The hotel is easier to find than the directions indicate. You come out of the termini and just go left down Cavour a right when you get to Santa Maria Maggiore and a left on Urbana. Simple. The area is lovely and is in close proximity to the A and B metro lines. We stayed in a double room with a view of the street, which we love. We purchased a metro pass and went everywhere. The metro pass also includes buses. The room was small but who stays in the room anyway? The refridgerator did not work but the front desk allowed us to keep some goodies in the small fridge at the bar. The staff was extremely nice and knowledgeable. The fifth floor has a great little terrace that has an open area and a glassed in area. Each evening we would go to the terrace for a rest, open a bottle of wine and discuss the day and where to go for dinner. Lovely.

We looked for a well located hotel in relation to our planned activities and needs. We could easily reach Colosseum, the Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, Termini Station etc by walking. We appreciate the correspondence between hotel desription and reality, the breakfast standard and the helpful emplyees. We were a little surprised about but appreciated the quiet and calm surrounding. Conserning our rooms yuo have to accept that they are rather small, in our case it was no problem. The only thing we missed a little was a reading lamp at the top of the bed, I would have appreciated the possibility to lay in bed reading a book.

This hotel is in a good position for a single female travelling alone. The area is safe and quite pleasant. I found the hotel receptionist to be very unfriendly. The room was very clean, but the room and the hotel were absolutely freezing. I went in February and during the day and nightime there was no heating on. The bed was very small and not very comfortable. The mini bar was empty and the safe didn't work. I asked for another cover, but I was still cold. There isn't even a rug on the tiled floor. There is a small bar at reception, but the coffee machine was broken. I was told that if I wanted a hot drink (something I was desperate for due to the cold) I would have to go and find a bar somewhere. The second day, the receptionist gave me a cup of hot water and a tea bag, told me that there was no sugar or milk, but charged me 2.50 for it! This was my first time in Rome so I cannot compare other hotels on value for money, but next time I will go somewhere else. This hotel is not a 3 star, more like 2 star with a bit of polish.

The hotel is great as a tourist hotel, the rooms were small but when sightseeing you don't need a huge amount of space, just a good clean bed for the night - and this is what the Canova provided. Staff were friendly and helpful and all were very good. The location was pretty good for all the sights of Rome, being close enough (but not too close) to Termini meant that transport around was easy to arrange. Overall it is pretty good value for money and would probably look to stay there again.

Plaisant hotel in a calm little street, near Termini and "all historical sites". We only take the metro to go to Vatican. Welcoming and advice for visits are OK. Room (tipple) & bathroom (douche, bath towels) are small but very clean. Breakfast is "very industrial" : bread, croissants and pakked cake. Machine for coffee, water, chocolate, chimical orange juice.

This was our first visit to Rome and Hotel Canova proved to be an ideal place to stay, in terms of both the accommodation provided and its location in relation to all the major sights (the only place we didn't walk to was the Vatican). We even discovered that the church with the oldest mosaics in the city is in the same street as the hotel! A long walk to touristic areas as trevi fountain & spanish steps. No carpeting on the floors & bad air conditioning made it very cold at night. Very small bathroom & a tiny elevator to get into with your luggage. The only good thing was its proximity to termini station as well as the breakfast.

The hotel is more like a half mile walk from the Canova stop, up hill and with cases in height of summer is a fair trek. However, is ideally located to walk down to the Roman Forum/Colliseum and situated on a fairly quiet backstreet, although Rome is a ghost town in August. Once in the room they are adequate but extremely small. Breakfast seems a little light of food but situated on a nice roof top conservatory. Staff seemed very helpful and attentive. On the whole is conveniently placed and reasonably priced. Just dont try and swing a cat in your room. Just a general comment on Rome, the restaurants are very welcoming but they do try and rip tourists off with 20% service charges and overpricing the water, something we noticed less so in other italian cities further north.

We had a brilliant stay in Rome. The hotel was great, our room was clean and quiet, the breakfast was good and plentiful. The only negative was that the room was a bit small but as we didn't spend much time there this was not a problem. We also booked our transfers from the airport to the hotel through the hotel this saves a lot of hassel as the driver was waiting for us and took us straight to the hotel this cost us 51 euro which I beleive is more expensive that a taxi but we did not have to explain where we were going etc.I would book this hotel again.

We stayed 5 nights in a reasonable twin-bedded room and then returned for 1 night and were given a slightly larger room (also twin). Our main (minor) complaint was lack of hooks for hanging towels, coats, etc. Would also have liked tea/coffee facilities (there was a machine, but it was broken)preferably in the room. But the staff were very helpful and friendly: the desk clerks spoke fairly good English. Like a previous visitor we also noted there were no instructions in case of fire. The hotel is in a quiet street, although early-morning traffic and street-cleaning vehicles tended to be rather noisy and is well placed for getting to all major tourist areas on foot or by bus. Would definitely return and recommend it to others.

The staff was very kind and efficient.Specially the reception staff. The bedroom was very tidy but it wasn't clean every day. We were unfortunate to be located in room 420, because this room is placed right below the terrace and as anybody can go up there at any time and the chairs and tables are made of iron, our room was nosy specially at night when we were exhausted. The air condiotioning wasn't working the 1st night so when I told the receptionist she offered me to try another remote control and that made the trick. Hooray!Because Rome was hot, hot and hot the end of August... Should anybody try this things before a client occupies the room? YES. But overall good quality vs price. If I come back to Rome I'll be back but hopefully not in the 4th floor

I had a double room, which was in reality a kind of appartment. It's nice looking but too small.

We were looking for a hotel which is easy to reach from the Termini and at the same time close to the major attractions of the city. Canova bears these two qualities in its own plus it is very clean. We stayed at Canova for 4 nights and we received good service. The rooms are well decorated and spacious. The breakfast that is served at the hotel is quite satisfying. At the sum of this all properties the best thing is that you don't need to pay so much if you are an early booker. Actually that is what you have to do for any hotel in Rome, especially if you are traveling during the high season.

we stayed in this hotel beginning May 2007. Our room was small but very clean, serviced daily. Only down side our room was very dark & safe not working. Breakfast room was bright and food sufficient to start the day.Great location walk to everything. Colosseum only 8min walk. Great restaurant round the corner Il Esquino family run great food. Best bar head right from hotel and just one block down called Druids Rock. Walk to railway no problem. Use hotels airport transfer, we did makes arriving Rome hassle fee.

the hotel seemed too expensive for the quality that it was. no shower door, just moldy shower curtains...not enough hot water. breakfast room is nice though. staff was not very accomodating or helpful with directions, busses, etc. all in all, would not recommned staying here.

Great location. Room on the small side, mattress was a little hard. Great water pressure in shower, only wish the shower curtain, and water, stayed within shower while showering. Beware, steam from wonderful water pressured shower will set off smoke detector and sound alarm in all of hotel. Cold water in bathroom sink would have been nice, the warm/hot water to brush teeth was a bit too much. Breakfast was okay. Would not stay here again if we are ever in Rome.

Hotel Canova is a charming little hotel perfectly located to discover the sites of Rome by foot. The walk to Collosseum took us approx. 10 min. Public transport(underground station) is also in the vicinity. Dispite the good location, the noise level from the street is very low. Our room was quite small but clean. The staff is friendly and very helpful. We can recommend the hotel for those who want to use it as a nice and cosy base when exploring the town. We would certainly book it again for our next trip to Rome.

Didn't change bed linens at all during our 4 night stay and only changed the towels because I specifically asked. The night before leaving they tell us they can only take cash because they are having trouble with the credit card machine. Although I wouldn't stay there again, I would be surprised if they were still in business in a year. The best thing about the place was the location, and the roof top deck.

The only thing I was very upset about is that I had made my reservation with 3 months in advanced and when we got there the only room available was a very tiny room, also the location is a little bit undersiable, there were a few homeless people sleeping around .

Superbly located with the Forum and Colloseum at walking distance as is the Cavour station; the breakfast was superb; the only deterrent, if any, is the slightly high price for a B&B; but almost makes up for it with the quality of the rooms, service and breakfast

This is a really cute hotel. Our room was not too large, but very nicely furnished. The owner of the hotel seem to really care of her/his clients. Although the breakfast is not too opulent, I really liked being there and would recommend the hotel. The hotel is close to all important points like Forum Romanum, Collosseum etc.

For the price and location this is an excellent 3 star hotel that is exactly what you'd expect. Location on back street good for quiet nights yet less than 5 mins walk from metro and 10 mins from Colosseum. Nice little outdoor terrace for breakfast too. Only gripes are tiny lift and unable to pay for hotel in Euro Travellers Cheques. Also despite asking many times for room safe to be reset it wasn't (though this wouldn't have been a problem if I'd read instructions on how to set it in the first place).

This hotel was in a perfect central location to most of the main attractions, only a 5-10 minute walk to each. It is close to the bus stop as well. You will need to take the bus to the Vatican. The staff was very friendly and breakfast was served every morning in an enclosed terrace room. We would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is OK for a short stay in Rome. The area is quiet and not too touristy, and the centro storico is in walking distance (approx 15min walk). Our room was quite small (so is the breakfast room) and the "public" spaces at the hotel are minimal. Still, it was clean and quiet. Overall, the price was OK for the service provided, not a great bargain, but OK. The bookable car transfer service to Fiumicino is worth using if there are at least 2 in your party, it costs a little more than the train+taxi but is soooo much less work! I would definitely stay there again, but not for a longer break or in the winter due to the lack of "hotel ammenities".

The hotel is as charming as it looks in pictures. We received the 4 non-smoking rooms, near each other, that we had booked. The rooms are miniscule, but charming and clean. And they are definitely maintained as non-smoking for those of you with allergies. The bathrooms are good. The location is nothing special. It is not quite close enough to walk comfortably to anything (although we did). The breakfast is good. And the espresso/hot chocolate machine works well! The staff is pleasant, but don't all speak English. The final bill was less than what was negotiated on venere. Hotel Canova is at least a European 3+ hotel. Have a nice trip.

Stayed there with my wife for a few days, the room was clean and nicely furbished the bed was comfortable, the Aircon was working properly. The breakfast was forgettable, what they call orange juice is rather cyanic acid. Otherwise we were satisfied with the staff and the price / performance.

This was not our first time to Rome, but was by far the best hotel. Only 5 minutes walk from the central station and within 15 minutes walk to anywhere in the city. Lots of very nice local restaurants used by the locals and not at all commercialised. The room was fine for the 2 of us but would imagine it to be tight for more than 2 people. Hotel staff were very friendly, they don't speak much English but were as helpfull as possible. It was my girlfriends' birthday whilst there and they arranged for champagne to be put into the room fridge and had no complaints about the confetti and balloons all over the room. The breakfast is the excellent with as much as you can eat in the roof top terrace in the sunshine. If you are looking for a commercial hotel as seen across the world then this is not for you but if you want to taste Italian life in a perfect location for sightseeing then this is ideal. we would definately reccommend it.

Rome is an expensive city so the Canova is attractive price-wise. It's close to the main train station in an area of town that isn't close to a range of attractions, but there is a metro stop just down the road so it's easy enought to get to all the important sights. Our room was quite small, but had the added bonus of a balcony. Not much of a view, but nice to have some fresh air in our cramped space. Newish bathroom. Reception staffed by chain-smoking, but competent staff. Good breakfast in a nice room on a terace. Value for money if you don't mind a smallish room and a bit of extra travel time.

We spent three days in Rome and were happy with the location of the hotel. We were four adults,(2 rooms) covering most of Rome's sights per foot from the hotel, which is very centrally located for all the sights that Rome has to offer. (2 blocks from Santa Maria Maggiore) There are plenty of pizzerias, restaurants and little shops in the neighborhood to make it a nice stay. Our rooms overlooked a side street which was really not that noisy. The personnel was very friendly and the breakfast was good with a nice variety. The room was on the small side but still had plenty of space to move around. The only minus we had was that the refrigerator in the room never kept anything cold and that we had to wait for eight hours to get a key to the safe. We were also offered a transfer from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise ship and both were performed at the given time and the price we had agreed on. I would recommend this hotel to anyone that asks me about a hotel in Rome, the price and the location are a plus

The Canova in Rome is a very nice hotel for the money. I have read few people complain about the size of the room, and the shower, but if you are a normal sized human being and not a PLUS sized human, this hotel is fine. The hotel is very centrally located. We walked to the hotel from the train station with little effort in just about 15 minutes. The Colosseum is only 10 minutes away, along with everything else one may wish to see. The breakfast room was nice and very clean and bright. There was a cute little roof-top patio where we would sit with a bottle of wine and the end of the day and make new friends. The elevator is normal sized for two normal sized humans. If you haven't seen your toes in a few years, you may want to look elsewhere for a hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. Most spoke very good English. I would stay at the Canova again if their prices remain good, IF I ever decided to visit Rome again. But that won't happen soon because Rome is a very dirty, unfriendly place. You can get by with two days max in this city.

The Canova hotel is a very nice place to stay, close to Santa Maria Maggiore, just in between Termini station and the Coloseum. The staff was nice, the room very clean with a spacious bathroom (with a window), and the breakfast is served in a lovely room/terrace on the roof. We were totally pleased with that hotel, except for the breakfast which was clean, but the products used were all of bad quality (artificial juices from a machine, coffee from a machine too, bad quality of the marmelade, cake...). We would have loved a better orange juice, fresh fruit and real good tea/coffee. Otherwise, the place is really fine.

Hotel Canova was the perfect place for us because we wanted to walk everywhere on foot. It is very close to the coloseum, Roman Forum, & termini. You can easily walk to the spanish steps and Trevi fountain but they're a little bit further (about a 15-20 minute walk). The hotel was just what we expected. A/C worked great, hot water & water pressure was great. Very friendly & helpful staff. We were very pleased.

I think that the price was a lot to pay for such a small room. The breakfast was open just until 9:30 and after that hour its impossible to get any kind of food. The view from the window was just a dirty hole between buildings and the shower drain was blocked so i had to ask the maid to unblock it.
