We were delighted with Hotel Borromeo. It was bright, thoroughly clean and adequately spacious. The room was serviced each day with fresh linen and towels etc. Air conditioning was invaluable especially at night (no charge). Double windows and good double glazing kept out street noise. The beds were very comfortable with v good quality mattresses. There was an in room safe (again no charge). The bathroom facilities were excellent especially really good shower. The built-in hairdryer was rather feeble but on request an independent one was quickly supplied. The room was nicely furnished with a good dressing table and two armchairs, together with a built in wardrobe. My wife and I were there for a week and used the room for midday rests between mainly walking periods.Staff were discreet but v helpful if approached. There was a plentiful buffet breakfast on the rooftop restaurant, divided into covered and uncovered sections. There was hot scrambled or boiled eggs with bacon, or a variety of cold buffet of cheese, meats, lovely rolls and Italian bread, fancy croissants and cakes. There were also cereals and milk. Coffee, tea and fruit juices were also available. The breakfast room was never overcrowded. The location was ideal for walking to the main attractions and was well served with restaurants such as the Esqualino just one block up on Via Cavour. The ice cream shop on our corner was a worthy temptation. There is a Tabacci next door for bus and train tickets. We used the 4 euro BIG ticket for a day at the beach at Ostia Lido, half hour out of Rome.(subway from Cavour to Pyramide then connecting train to Ostia.....painless) The location was near enough Termini to walk with luggage yet far enough away from its downside. Via Cavour was pleasant and healthily busy and well lit. My wife and I had a great week in Rome, our 4th visit, greatly enhanced by our hotel.

The hotel itself was okay. The rooms varied in that some were completely renovated and others looked like they had the same bedding from the 70's. My suggestion is to ensure you get a renovated room.

The Via Cavour is very very loud, and even though the hotel has sound-proof windows there is still some noise. The bathroom look very old and the shower uninviting. The entrance of the hotel and the corridors are very narrow. The breakfast room upstairs is nice but the choices of food were quite poor

The staff was very friendly and helpful. they even gave us a little "good luck" present. breakfast was good as we expected to be (we read comments of other quests). hotel is in walking distance of any major city attractions. we found a lot of great places to eat pizza, pasta, steaks and tiramisu (traditional cake). we had a great time in roma.

The Borromeo was excellent value for money. It is centrally located in a safe area not far from Termini station. There are faciilites close by such as an internet cafe and a laundry across the road. There are also many places to eat within the surrounding area. The staff our helpful and pleasant. We had a twin room which had everything we could want. I would stay there again.

Thanks Borromeo for helping to make our first visit to Rome a pleasure! Great value! 10 minute walk from Termini Station, 15 minutes to Piazza Republica, 15 minutes to Colosseum, 5 minutes walk from Metro. Rooms were clean, sheets and towels changed daily. Staff helpful. Good breakfast, eggs, bread, yogurt, fresh cappucino, pastries but no fruit. Double windows - so not much noise from Via Cavour. We discovered some neat little restaurants in the side streets nearby.

We arrived very late with our 2 young kids. The hotel was very nice, the quad room was very spacious. Unfortunately there were bed bugs in the room so we did not stay. When I went to the desk and told him the problem (with a bug specimen in a ziploc bag) he called the owner of the hotel and they moved us to a different hotel they owned, the Hotel Ara Pacis in the Vatican/Spanish Steps area. They paid for a taxi to take us there and gave us a refund for that night. They were very good about the whole thing; it was too bad we couldn't have stayed there b/c it looked like a nice hotel. This is not a "dirty" hotel, bed bugs can be found in even the nicest hotels, and they are hard to control.

Fantastic hotel - the staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel services were exactly as described on the website, and the location into central Rome was fantastic (only a few hundred metres to the Forum and Colosseum). The staff were very accomodating, they even moved me into a larger room for my 3rd and 4th nights when the hotel wasn't fully booked.

Perfect location for travellers arriving and departing from Termini: walking distance. Very close to undergound station and to sightseeing busses. Breakfast: nice location, but quality of food avarage, even a little lower. Suggested for families with childer.

Fair quality for the fair price. Very good location - near Termini station (10-15 minutes walk), very close to the Colosseum (5 min) and other famous places in Rome. Our room was rather small, but very cosy. In general the Hotel met our expectations.

We stayed in this hotel at the beginning of March, for 4 nights. The conditions were good, small cosy room, with everything you need in it. A little dusty here and there, but the sheets and towels were clean (towels were changed every day). Breakfast was ok, pretty standard (milk, cereal, bread, cheese, eggs, yogurt, croissants, coffee, tea and juice). The breakfast room was very nice - on the third floor, with glass walls and ceiling - very bright and pleasant. The staff was nice, we didn't interact a lot, but they were helpful when we needed something. The location was the best - central large street, close enough to Termini station (10 min walk max), but also to most of the sightseeing places. We enjoyed our trip a lot, and i recommend this hotel.

We had a wonderful experience at the Borromeo. The service was excellent and the employees were very personable and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts which were excellently prepared. The location of the hotel was very convenient to many attractions and within close proximity to the Metro and Termini train station. For future trips to Rome, we will definitely stay here again.

Stayed in Rome for 2 nights with my mother. it was the first time I have stayed in Rome (having visited for the day previously) The hotel is in a good location for public transport and for getting about. Hotel friendly, very clean, room spacious & comfortable. Breakfast not the greatest, basic bur have had worse. Overall would use again & had an enjoyable time.

Hotel expensive for what it is. Not at all businesslike. Better speak italian because if they make a mistake for misunderstanding, they will never admit it, will charge your card, won't answer your email and let you go back home with this negative commonplace feeling ! Sad for such a fantastic city !

Rooms are rather tiny, but very clean and quiet (even though the hotel is located on very busy street. The only traffic sounds that you can hear is metro passing underneath). Personal was friendly and very helpful. The best about this hotel is its location in center of Rome - 5 minutes of walk from nearest metro station and 10-15 minutes from main Rome train station Termini or Colosseum. If you come to Rome for sight seeing, the hotel is ideal for you because of the location. If you are business traveler or coming with small children, you probably should look for something more comfy further from city center.

Out of the 6 different hotels I have stayed in while visiting Rome this was definitely the worst. The employees were rude, the rooms were tiny even by Roman standards and the location is not quite as nice as it appears on the map.

The Borromeo was good value for money for central Rome. However, the rooms (at back on 1st floor) were tiny. Just room to walk round the good-sized bed. Only space for one suitcase. Fair location, no great noise from other rooms or outside, clean and tidy.

Currently on the main road is major roadworks where they are laying new tram lines. Apart from that good location for railway station, metro and major sights. Walking was a must but did not take long to get to most places. Room was clean and tidy and provided the purpose adequetly as needed. Breakfast was really good and in a nice area in the hotel. We had a twin room. Would recommend! :-)

The location more than the hotel itself made the price worth it. Super close to the metro, the Colosseum. We had a pleasant stay, the room was nice, but the bathroom could have used some updating in the tiles (wall/floor). I would definitely recommend this place to friends/family though.

A fairly good hotel for exploring Rome, especially the ancient ruins. Some of the people behind the desk were exceptionally friendly. Rooms were a little cramped but not to the point of inconvenience. Slightly better quality food at breakfast would have been appreciated, as visiting the sites of Rome is a tiring business!

This is a good economy hotel. For the price, you get a clean, if small, room; a clean, well-stocked private bathroom; and a simple breakfast in the morning. The room: Small, but not cramped. The windows have two sets of hinged panes, as well as shutters you can open and close with ease. This is very good for keeping out the noise and sunlight of Via Cavour - a fairly busy main street. The view was nothing special, but nothing hideous. The bathroom: Clean and fully operational -- what more could you ask? The bathtub was small and not recommended for very large people. I am 5'8" and 150 lbs, so it was just right for me. The lift was not operational during my visit, but I did see repairmen working on it (March 12, 2008). The climb to my room was 2 flights up, which was fine, as a bellman carried my luggage. Breakfast is served on the top floor in a sunny glass-covered room that leads to a small outside veranda. Breakfast was decent, with eggs (cold by the time I got there at 9am, but edible), pastries, a selection of yogurt and cereals, and coffee or tea. It is buffet-style. (Do not expect any kind of juice -- I believe that is something of a rarity in Italy.) Very subdued and stress-free, a good start to a day of site-seeing. Overall. this is not luxury, but it is also not a dive or dump. It is fine for what it is, and for 90eu per night for a single, a fair price. Most of the staff spoke English, and those that did not spoke enough to be polite and helpful. With the exception of a rude desk clerk basically dismissing me when I asked to make a toll-free phone call after I had checked out, this was a good experience.

We have stayed in Rome many times, and this time was for our Grandsons christening in San Giovanne in Laterano, The hotel is very well positioned, very easy to get to all sites in the centre of Rome, Rooms where extremely clean although basic and small, breakfast was adequate in a clean and airy roof top terrace, we would stay here again.

Our review is based on some unique conditions. First, our reservation was last minute. We decided to return to Rome a day early and had to find a place to stay. Second, our request was for a quad room. While most of the hotels we stayed at in Italy were able to handle that request adequetely, Borromeo was not, in spite of promoting itself as being a quad choice. Our suite, two rooms, appeared to be a conference area, with a bedroom and a living area. The living area had the sofa made up as a bed and a roll-away placed in the center of the room. Not only that, it wasn't in the hotel. Instead, it was an apartment on the street two doors down. Our room opened onto the street. We were never given any information regarding the included breakfast, and only found out by overhearing the clerk address other guests, and overall we felt like interlopers rather than guests. Not good for the price.

The hotel was terrible. Not nearly worth the 200euro per night (we stayed three nights) charged AND requested full payment upon check-in. The hotel is run-down and very poorly managed. The cleaning staff smoked cigarettes as they cleaned the rooms despite the no smoking signs posted. The bath towels were mere rags, and the hallways were littered with cleaning staff carts and dirty "swiffers". The best part is the "dining room" - after observing the staff empty a garbage bag full of breakfast rolls into a bowl, beside the grand selection of hard boiled eggs, dried cereal and instant coffee, we decided to eat elsewhere.

The quality of the room did not meet the price level, even for Rome. There is some renovation going on, maybe thereafter it reflects the price tag. The staff was helpful and friendly. This was a major disappoinment for us. Even though the rooms were clean and the location was perfect for visiting the major sites. We felt that it was overpriced and the staff weren't as friendly as other places we stayed in Italy. I think the biggest disappointment of all however was that the breakfast was barely edible, cold "boiled" eggs and a scant selection of ham. In a country renowned for it's delicious coffee, the coffee here was undrinkable.

Unfortunately the hotel was being refurbished during our stay and there were no public rooms open other than the roof top "bar". We all found the rooms too hot even though it was February and perhaps because of the time of year the air conditioning did not seem to function. With the windows open their was traffic noise. Otherwise it is a hotel we would go back to and the location was good for most things.

The Hotel was perfectly situated, everything within walking distance as well as being very close to a Metro stop. The room we stayed in was very small but with a nice bathroom and was very clean. We couldn't fault it really (although we weren't exactly able to chase each other around the room!). The staff were very helpful especially when I was looking to buy rugby tickets they very kindly pointed me in the right direction. Great value for money in a city that is supposed to be very expensive. Rome needless to say was fantastic, fabulous people, wonderful food at great prices and buildings that would take your breath away. I can't wait to visit again.

We were disappointed with our stay at Hotel Borromeo. We arrived before our room was ready so we left our luggage in a common lounge. The desk promised that our suitcase would be carried up as soon as the room was ready. This was not done. Instead, we came back at 7pm to discover that our luggage was left in the lounge unattended and unsecured all day long. The first room we were given, although clean, had inadequate lighting in the bathroom. There were only two tiny, low wattage lights, and one bulb of the two was missing altogether. They moved us to another room immediately, but we discovered the next morning that there was an ant infestation problem in this one. They sprayed that day and although we had far fewer ants the next morning, we still found a dozen or more in the bathroom. Both rooms were stifling hot (our stay took place in the middle of March). We were told that there is central heating which cannot be adjusted - either the heat is on or off, and, as the desk put it, better to be hot than cold. We tried opening the window, but the noise from the street was so loud, it needed to be shut just to hear the tv. The front desk kept our passports, and upon departure we discovered that they had been misplaced. They were found eventually, but between this incident and our suitcase being left unattended all day, I have no trust in this establishment with our property and would not return for another stay. Although the location was excellent and the off season rate reasonable, the full season price does not justify the quality of care given.
