Hotel Aventino is an oasis from the high tourist area of Rome and yet walking distance away. We enjoyed our stay so much that we re-booked the hotel for the end of our trip before returning to the US. The staff was extremely helpful with all our questions and requests. Our rooms were beautiful, very clean and comfortable. My only suggestion is that the directions to the hotel on their website end with "walk approx. 800 meters" which is TOO far & difficult with luggage. I recommend skipping the metro altogether and getting a taxi at the Rome Termini train station (be sure to exit at the front of the station if you hail a cab - do NOT exit the side). It'll cost about 12.5 euro but is worth every cent. Also while this is no reflection on the Aventino - for those first time travelers to Rome skip the "Ciao Roma" bus tour. Thank you Hotel Aventino for a wonderful stay and great memories.

We traveled for a romantic weekend in Rome... This hotel helped us achieve this goal... Nice hotel....however ddo not expect great breakfast, nor room service!!! Also you will have to walk uphill for more than 15 minutes...but the area is very nice.... generally if you planning to be around the city center and not go in and out of the hotel it is a very good choice....

All in all a very good location for a few days stay in Rome. Only a (ten minute) footwalk away from the Antique Locations (Circ. Max, Palat., Coloss. etc.). The breakfastroom could be a little more spacier (in the 'rush-hour' it was sometimes difficult to find a free table (otherwise in the 'smokers corner outside'). The room itself was in a quietly location, but in the nighttime there was sometimes a disturbance (esp. by loud dog-barking or party-sounds) from neighbour-grounds. The wardrobe was only for coathangers - a few more shelves would be good. The service was great - and the hotel is very recommendable!

Aventino is perfect if you are looking for a really quiet hotel which is close to Rome's major sights (15-minutes-walk to the Colosseum or to Trastevere, 5 minutes to bus stations). It is connected with two other hotels on the Aventino hill - Hotel San Anselmo, Hotel Villa San Pio, the latter has a charming restaurant (two-course set menu 25 €) which I can only recommend.

In a quiet and nice residential area, walking distance from major attractions (Piazza Venezia, Coloseum, Trastevere,etc...) and metro station. A small negative point regarding the dog in the hotel coumpound barking during the nights, left alone in the garden (where was the owner of the dog?). Unfortunately this impacted negatively my rating about quietness of the rooms. Otherwise highly recommended.

In a quiet residential street, about 20-25 min walk from the Coloseum. Perfect for us. Slept very well. Nice choice at breakfast. Friendly staff, spoke English. Would definitely go back.

Very nice hotel, though our room was small (maybe because the 2.50 m wide bed took most of the room!) The bed was very hard! Minus for being quite noisy, due to thin walls and doors (however only a couple of rooms on every floor so not many guests, that still kept it pretty quiet). Awesome location in a quiet part of Rome, no heavy traffic near, although about 20 min walk to the Colosseum/city center. Lovely breakfast room; nice buffet and a calm environment. Good value for the price we paid, I would certainly recommend this hotel! With the romantic room and big bed - next time I'd bring my boyfriend!

I can definitely say that we had a great time at ur hotel...Everything was nearly perfect... the staff was nice with us..they were ready to answer in each question we may had.. The room was ''isolated'' on the top of ur hotel and it was magnificent!!! We walked around rome by foot ..metro station was so dirty!!! Hotel Aventino seems to be a perfect destination for ur stay in rome for all ages!!!!sometimes is hard to reach the hotel because is situated on the hill but it's ok... I reccomend it to everybody..ENJOY IT!

Aventino is a nice place to stay. I enjoyed my stay there. The hotel is located in a lovely area of the town. Public transport is not far away. Breakfast was good. Staff in general friendly and very helpful. I recommend to visit Terme di Caracalla. Walking distance form the hotel approx. 15 minutes.

I think there is an overall tired feeling about the Aventino. The rooms are tiny with no drawers for clothes so that they have to be kep in the suitcase. The air-conditioning/heating is erratic. The breakfast is at the stage when the Italians first got into buffet-style meals and needs a thorough revamp. The computer in the hall did not work. This hotel is living on its laurels!

The tower room was so lovely. Hotel is well located for walkers and in a beautiful part of town. It's near a thrivinig market and has very good restaurants in the area. Staff was extremely helpful, making dinner and event reservations by email prior to our visit. Several different public areas, including a lovely rooftop terrace.

The Aventine Hill is quiet but within walking distance of public transit and close enough to get to the major sights (Palatine Hill, Coliseum, Forum, Bocca della Verita) within 15-20 minutes. Several churches, Santa Sabina the most notable, are worth visiting on the Aventine. The Hotel Aventino is one of several hotels in the area and is among the most reasonable of them. The surroundings are beautiful, in a garden setting, and our room was good-sized, clean and had all the features we needed. The staff was professional, helpful and friendly. Breakfast, included in the price, was an ample cold buffet. Wifi is available in the public areas of the hotel. Prospective visitors should know that the Aventino isn't in the middle of things - if you want to be among crowds and lots of places to shop, eat and drink, this isn't the place. The hotel and the Aventine Hill area in general are quiet and attractive, a great place to relax after busy days in Rome.

We loved the hotel and think it's the best hotel we have stayed in Italy. It's a very nice property located in a very nice area of Rome. It's a 15 min or so walk to the Colosm so that's quite nice. The staff are very helpful, they even helped us found a cell phone we lost in the cab. And we like the room decorations too. Breakfast is very nice as well. The only drawback is that it took us a good effort to find the hotel from the Metro satation, not many people in the neighbourhood seem to know the address or the hotel. A more clear direction to the hotel would be helpful.

Hotel is too inconvenient from metro stop / city centre. Not a good choice unless you have your own transport. Hotel was ok, but rooms were much smaller than expected. Jaccuzzi didn't work. Breakfast was disappointing. In terms of expectations generated from reading reviews on website, I was disappointed overall.

The villa, rooms and surroundings are spectacular. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. On the downside, the staff is far from welcoming and warm. The location itself is a bit removed from the city centre, so you will need to take public transport or a taxi, but this is well worth the calm and the beauty of the place.

Highly recommended. Good value for money. It is great to return to the quiet, peaceful and green Aventino area after a day spent in the buzzling, loud and hectic city of rome. The neighborhood is dominated by nice villas with gardens and does not have much traffic noise. Nevertheless it is not at all a remote area and if you do not mind walking, you can easily reach the center. Hotel rooms are cozy and nicely decorated, though not very spacious. Nice bathrooms, and one of the best breakfasts we ever had in Italian hotels.

The email availability was restricted to one common desktop in the main lobby. Buying access time was somewhat expensive. The grounds and general location were gorgeous. The small balcony with table and chairs for two was quite nice. The general location is residential and provides a very quiet night, even with the windows open.

Hotel had great location, quiet neighborhood. 10 minute walk to forum and colisuem. Would not be easy to find if taking Metro. Not a lot of choices for restaurants in the area, but you'll likely be out anyway during meal times, so not a problem. Rooms are very nice, prices do get low: 200 euros.

We were there in Aug 08. This was the best hotel overall we stayed at in a trip to France and Italy. The location was just outside the core of the city but the transit made it easy to access everything. Buy a rome museum pass - it's worth it for the unlimited transit. The hotel room itself was beautiful with a balcony and spacious room. The breakfast was the best we had and the service was extremely good. Our only beef was with reception staff. They helped just enough and provided advice that was very conventional. For example, I wanted to go to the Traverste area for dinner but instead of making a recommendation they would say you should go to another area all together. They were very good though with helping us with the buses. Some tips: Go on the Angel Tours Vatican tour and download FREE Rick Steves audio tours of the Pantheon, Collesuem, Forum and Sistine Chapel. To get to the hotel, go the Pyramid stop and walk up the hill (we found this the easiest). We also caught buses from that side.

Great hotel, very quite residential area, but a bit of a walk to find a restaurant. They say a 15 min walk to the city but we would say 40-45mins. So need to use a taxi or bus, also arriving back in the eavening if walking a little off the main track no one about! Thats the only down side to the hotel.

Although our reservation was at the Aventino, we were given a room in the Sant Pio (a sister property). We highly recommend this hotel group. If you are in good health for walking, this location is excellent because it is residential and quiet. (One must take a bus or cab to the busier tourist sections). The restaurant in this hotel is open for dinner every night except for Saturday and we highly recommend it. Although there were some families with children staying there, I would recommend this to those traveling without children.

We stayed at Hotel Aventino for 3 nights. It is an oasis, and yet only 5-10 minutes walk from the Palatine Hill and 15-20 minutes from the Colosseum. The staff are friendly, the neighbourhood extremely quiet. The rooms are good-sized and the bathroom a pleasant surprise. The bedrooms are pretty noise-proof. There were one or two small niggles - the jacuzzi effect in the bath didn't work, the coffee at breakfast was tepid, but I would most certainly recommend the Aventino. If I ever return to Rome I would definitely stay there.

Our main holiday was in Tuscany, but as we (2 mature couples) were flying to Rome and hiring a car we decided to book a hotel for 2 nights in Rome to see the sights before continuing our journey. I used Venere.com to view hotels in Rome. The choice was made on the area, the hotel photos and the good reviews from previous guests. The hotel was above our expectations and we enjoyed our stay. We would certainly recommend this hotel. If we stayed longer we felt that more storage space in the room would have been useful such as a small chest of drawers. The staff were very helpful and an asset to the hotel.

Bless this hotel - Aventino hill is such a charming location, just on the cusp of the hustle of the centre. A quiet haven with calm and efficient staff. Nice and cosy hotel, good breakfast.Peaceful place. Only bed was a little hard. I gladly recommend! Special thanks for the helpful staff in reception and big umbrellas for rainy days!

Very nice hotel, set in its own grounds, in a quiet residential area away from the noise and traffic, but within 15 minutes gentle stroll from Circo Massimo and the entrance gate to the Forum. Possibly difficult to find as the hotel is discreetly advertised by just a brass plaque on the wall and is hidden away behind automated entrance gates. (Taxi driver said there is another hotel with a similar name, but this is the best one!) Comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated rooms with outlook over the hotel garden. Excellent breakfast with self service choice of yoghurt, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, ham, cheeses, salami, cereals, breads, toast, jams, cake, fruit tart and warm croissants and pastries, with tea coffee and fruit juice. Helpful and friendly staff who spoke excellent English, but willingly tolerated practice of hesitating Italian! The guest book is full of complimentary comments from guests from all over the world. We will stay there again when we visit Rome. Mi piace molto!

As a single traveler I stayed 4 nights in the hotel. If you are looking for a very quiet area to stay in Rome this is the place to stay about ten minutes walk to the rear of circus maximus (30 minutes walk from termini but the metro is just a few minutes and then about 10 minutes walk) I had a very happy stay in the hotel with no complaints on service etc, I took a double room which was very clean and worth the extra cost, I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel

We had the top room in the hotel reached via the outside terrace. It was very quiet and private, which we liked. It was a little small but you can't have everything. Only real fault is a lack of a bar or real social area in the hotel, so after a day out there isn't anywhere but the room to relax. It is a walk to most sites, but we were quite happy to do that as the hotel is a little out of the way but in a quiet area. If you don't like walking, don't go there.

In fact, I stayed in villa S. Pio, which is a sister hotel located very close to St. Aventino. I stayed during July 19~20th, 2007. I had great time in Rome, and it's partly due to this hotel. It's a lovely, jolly, and cozy hotel. The staff are very kind and professional too. If you are a first time visitor to Rome, you might feel a bit difficult to find the hotel. But once you get to know the surroundings and are accustomed to Rome city map, then you will realize that it is very close to the center and easy to find! You can have a very detailed area map at the hotel front. - I think it would be nice if they can send an electronic copy of this map to the customers who book the hotel via email. I will definitely choose this hotel when I visit Rome again. And will recommend to my family and friends. Thumbs up!

Hotel Aventino was a wonderful place to stay for our three days in Rome - it was safe and secure, the rooms and surroundings were beautiful and comfortable and clean, the staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfasts were almost banquets in their range and quality of food and drinks to choose from. We had the added bonus of being able to visit the restaurant at one of the two sister hotels just round the corner and enjoyed a fabulous meal in their garden. We would recommend this hotel,to anyone who wants to travel in comfort, and be close to all the sights of Rome. It was probably the most expensive place we stayed on our trip, but it was worth it for the experience.

The room was clean and very quiet and big enough for me,my wife, and our adult daughter.Breakfast was excellent. The staff was very helpful friendly and reliable with their advice on busses and restaurants. They arranged for taxis and made restaurant reservations. The neighborhood was beautiful, with great views of the city from the top of the hill, while walking through a fragrant blossoming orange grove. It was an easy walk to the coloseum and the adjacent sites of ancient Rome. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if we went back to Rome and highly recommend Hotel Aventino to anyone.

The hotel is located in a lovely, quiet residential neighgborhood in Rome, with easy walking access to bars, restaurants, sights, etc. We loved the Aventino for its lovely grounds, European feel and very nice, though small rooms and bathrooms. We stayed there twice and had a very good experience.

It was just great returning to the this hotel, in the perfect quiet surroundings, after a day of sight seeing. One little remark perhaps, the bathroom was very small and provided few facilities to place small beauty attributes. Otherwise, it was the place of comfort and atmosphere one would look for after a heavy day. The personnel was very friendly and would go to the utmost to help. We recommend this hotel to all of our friends.

A fantastic small hotel close to the Colisseum, palatine Hill and the Fora Romana. Pleanty of hidden gems in the area (English cemetery and views of St Peter's Basillica) make this area great for a base in Rome and as a quiet retreat. If you are active then the walk to the major attractions of the centre and Vatican are easily within walking distance. Rooms and service were fantastic and the choices for breakfast are great. You feel like you're in 4-star!

The only critisism of the hotel i'd make is the crazy lady serving breakfast on Sunday morning. A request for a glass of water was met with ranting and raving about tiding up, cleaning etc, and she wouldnt leave us in peace (for those that know the classic BBC sitcom Faulty Towers, think basil faulty. i could have sworne he was in the room!). It was a shame and spoilt the experience at the hotel.

The staff were always very helpful. My only criticism was that he room that my wife and I was in was a bit 'tired'. It needed its internal deco improved. But the room was very clean and kept that way daily by staff. The range of food available at the breakfast was very good. The hotel itself is in a quiet area at the edge of the City Centre well placed for the main tourist places and the the Subway.

The breakfast is wonderful with variety of items. Dinner items are good but a bit costly if compared with similar hotels around. Business centre is lacking. Internet facility is faulty and too expensive. They still use OS Windows 2000.

I have stayed in this hotel with my husband. The rooms are well furnished, but they are EXTREMELY SMALL, not for 3 star standards. The bubble Jacuzzi bath didn't work at all! The staff at the reception didn't speak italian well, and we are italians, so they couldn't understand what we wanted.

The room and toilet facilities were clean and tidy. Food for breakfast was great. Location is too remote and no clear direction on how and which public transportation is the most convenient to use except taxi.

Great place. Perhaps the best aspect is the neighborhood. Quiet and beautiful, yet very near downtown Rome. Even some wonderful sights within walking distance of the hotel. And the breakfast was excellent: large and high quality, not at all your tiny "continental" breakfast. One negative:bathroom was beautiful, but a bit cramped. Interior of the building itself was lovely. And for your info, since they do not offer our category, we are a gay couple with a child.

The Aventino Hotel is in a beautiful part of Rome. The bus service is excellent and will bring you to the vatican or into the centre of Rome. There are many attractions in the vicinity that you can easily walk to. I would highly recommend this hotel and would certainly return to it again.

The hotel was what I was hoping for. Room spacious enough with ensuite bathroom (jacuzzi shower). Nice, quiet and very residential area. Private gate to the hotel. Only 10-15 min to the colosseo. Lovely restaurants around. Staff particularly helpful. Breakfast very nice, loads to choose from. Absolutely nothing to complain about! Hotel wspanialy! Pokoj przestrzenny, lazienka z jacuzzi. Okolica bardzo cicha, spokojna. Tylko 10-15 minut do coloseum! Kilka dobrych restauracji tuz za rogiem. Pracownicy bardzo przyjaznie nastawieni. Sniadanie pyszne, duzy wybor. Zadnych przeciwskazan!

When we arrived, we were told that the room we booked was undergoing renovations but that they were uopgrading us to superior accommodations - this was a very delightful surprise, especially since unknown to them this was our wedding anniversary. The ladies serving the garden restaurant provided fantastic service. I am recommending it to my friends who are planning to travel shortly.

Great, quiet neighborhood - only a short walk from the subway. Wonderful restaurant at sister hotel, we ate there 2 of 3 nights. It was very nice to come back to each night after the fast pace during the day in Rome. We would definitely stay again, and highly recommend the hotel!

This was a beautiful hotel to stay at in Rome. the room was quite large and extremely comfortable. The staff was always helpful and the surrounding neighborhood was lovely. Quite near the metro to get around to other places and situated wonderfully close to the Forum and Colosseum. Wonderful stay overall!

We wanted a hotel in Rome that was in a quiet location and the Aventino certainly is. It's a fifteen minute walk from the Colosseum and Forum. The hike up the Aventine Hill is great exercise. No restaurant- only a small breakfast room- but their sister hotel a few blocks away has a wonderful restaurant- "Il Giardino degli Arvaci". We spent a week here and everything was excellent. If you stay here don't miss the Basilica of St. Sabina- a few blocks up the hill from the hotel. The adjacent park has one of the greatest views of Rome you will find. Some restaurant choices in Rome- Alla Rampa- Piazza Mignanelli- right around the corner from the Spanish Steps- the antipasta buffet was incredible; Sabatini- Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere- the pasta in white clam sauce was wonderful. The setting is magnificient- outdoors on a wonderful piazza opposite the church; and for a lunch break try Tre Scalini in Piazza Navona- another wonderful location right beside Bernini's Four Rivers Fountain- the "tartufo" or death by chocolate is worth the trip! One other thing- avoid the long lines at the Colloseum by buying a combo ticket at the entrance to the Palantine. Then just walk into the Colloseum without waiting. Never a line at the Palantine.

We were upgraded to the sister Hotel San Anslemo. Rooms were beautifully decorated but we were lucky to get a bigger room than our friends, with a magnificent bathroom, which had a huge sunken Roman style bath. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful, if not a little slow at responding sometimes. Breakfast was amazing. Location was quiet and pretty. It was easy to get to the main sites. We would recommend and will definitely try and stay there again if we revisit Rome!

We were upgraded to the sister hotel San Anselmo, so the review refers to that hotel. My friends arrived at the Aventino and thought it of similar quality . Really nice stay, in a quieter area of Rome. I'll be going back.

We were moved to the Villa San Pio which is within the same Group and we found to be the most delightful hotel. The garden setting provided a wonderful retreat after a day of sightseeing in a very hot Rome. The breakfast provided was the most extensive buffet I have ever experienced in a European hotel. Staff were fabulous and I only wish I could have stayed here longer. Will definitely return.

An excellent hotel, good value for money suitable for quiet adults. Situated in a pleasant quiet area near to archaeological sites, only 15 minutes walk from the Colosseum, Forum and Circus Maximus. Handy for bus routes. Good L'Insalata Ricca restaurant nearby which caters for vegetarians. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights in july and would recommend this to any of our friends. Really a lovely hotel, very helpfull staff, clean and big enough room (with nice balcony). Although its a nice location, it was really quiet. Breakfast could be eaten in the backyard on the terras, which was a nice start of the day. We went by car and parking within the gate, next to the hotel was even possible and free!

Stayed 4 nites with my wife. Close to St. Sabina Church (5 min walk), Caracalla (10 min walk), Metro Circo Massimo (10 min walk), Colloseum and Palatino (15 min walk), and Trastevere (20 min walk). If visiting areas close to metro stations, way back to hotel is quite easy. But for the historical area, learn some bus lines and schedules and how to handle the tickets, otherwise you may need to walk long distances (40-50 min). Pics of the rooms are correct. Airconditioning under your control was perfect. Pricing as indicated. Very quiet area in a residential zone, feels like in country-side but it is 15 min away from the city life. Great and smiling staff. Very pleasent stay.

Lovely setting. Friendly service. Staff could make it clearer that Aventino guests may use facilities at the sister hotel nearby. Room was equiped with Internet connection instructions and wireless keyboard connected to the television, however, these did not work and hotel staff said the service was discontinued. If service will not be restored, I'd recommend removing the keyboard and login instructions.

The Aventino was the best part of our trip to Rome. I wasn't too impressed with the city itself, but the Aventino was a great place to come back to at the end of the day....or sleep in all day. The pictures posted are 100% accurate. The neighborhood is extremely quiet and the beds are quite comfortable. My mom and I stayed for 5 nights. The staff was great and more than accomodating. The breakfast buffet was good and had a variety of items(but don't expect your typical American breakfast variety). The rooms were small, which is typical for most European hotels, but beautifully decorated. The bathrooms were rather large and had this great jacuzzi shower that massages your entire body. As mentioned in other postings, there is a hill that you have to climb to get to the hotel, but its not that much of a hinderance. You can always catch a cab to the top for about $3. Its about a 15 minute walk to the historic center and a 20 minute walk from Trastevere(where all of the great restaurants are). There is a bus stop at the bottom of the hill from which you can catch a bus to anywhere in the city. The patio outside is quiet and serene, and the scenery couldn't be more beautiful. There are only 12 rooms at the hotel so there is never a crowd at breakfast or any excessive noise. It almost feels as if you are staying there alone. Rome is extremely expensive and the hotels didn't deviate from that concept. I wasn't too happy with the price that I paid (about $250 USD per night) in comparison to the rates I paid in Paris and Madrid, but after seeing what was available in the rest of the city, it's safe to say that you definitely get what you pay for! I probably won't be visiting Rome again, but if I did I would definitely stay at the Aventino.......and sleep in all day.
