This hotel was close to the Coliseum, and walking distance from the Cavour Metro and a fairly easy walk to the Trevi Fountain. I knew it would be expensive to stay at a "nice hotel" in Rome. From what I've heard this was a pretty good deal based on the location, quiet room, clean hotel, and good service we received. The continental breakfast was very nice with a good variety. The room was not spacious, but I've been told you're not really going to find that in a hotel in Rome unless you are paying over $300/night (we paid about $260). We were looking for a quiet room, not a big one, since our goal was to be out during the day and just be in the room for sleeping. We were very satisfied since we couldn't hear any street noise. A couple of times we could hear people in a neighboring room, but it did not disturb us. Overall, very satisfied.

What an excellent location and value! Rooms were exactly what we were looking for... a bit of Roman charm, reasonably priced, great location, and clean/spacious rooms.

very nice hotel. Very central location, very close of coliseum and all antique rome. 15mn to Plaza spana, trevi, pantheon. Very quite. Good breakfast on the roof of the hotel (with sun). I strongly recommand this hotel. We spent a very nice big weekend.

Our room at hotel Apollo had a surprisingly beautiful bathroom. We wanted to have a view of the Colosseum, but I would be surprise if there was such a thing at hotel Apollo since it is located sideways from this magnificent monument. It is however possible to see it as the pictures show, if you stick your head way out of the window and turn it to your left. The staff was very knowledgeable and mulitlingual however one suggested to go to a restaurant called Petrucci, it sounded like they had some business together, but we wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The food wasn't fresh, the meat cuts were bad and the ambiance was terrible. We had an overall nice and comfortable experience at Apollo and it had some luxuries of a 4 star hotel. It is very well located and we would most probably go back if we wanted to see more of Rome.

The Hotel Apollo was exceptionally clean and well-maintained. It was such a pleasant experience as we had just come from a not-so-pleasant dirty hotel in Pisa. Although the room was small, it was very nice, quiet, and comfortable. The Hotel Apollo which is just down the street from the coloseum is in a great location for seeing all the main sights in Rome. The breakfast was also exceptional and included cappuccino, pastries, cheese, ham, cereal, breads, etc. Unfortunately, we were unable to enjoy it on the open roof because it was raining during the early morning. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We had the top floor suite that can sleep up to 5 comfortably so for our family of 4 we hads lots of space. The air conditioning was a welcome relief from the 35 C heat of Rome and the balcony overlooking the colosseum was an added bonus. The owners/management was very friendly but the best part about this property was its location...very close to the forum, colloseo and affordable cafes near the Cavour metro station and Isola Tiberina

The hotel was fantastic - the staff very friendly, the breakfasts were great, rooms were very well presented and clean, the location was brilliant, and it was excellent value for money. The only minor complaint was that the air conditioning is turned off in the hotel between 1am and 4am - not ideal in a Roman summer.

This hotel is great. Small and personal. For travelling Australians, the only missing features were a kettle for tea and an electric iron and board. Otherwise everything else was all we needed. Location is about midway between the Trevi Fountain and the Colliseum.

I would certainly recommend the Apollo for anybody making a trip to Rome. Its location within walking distance of many of the main attractions in the city makes it an excellent base. The hotel is small but surprisingly quiet, bearing in mind its location and although the rooms aren`t huge they are adequate in terms of size and very clean and comfortable.

Gracias.

This hotel had a very good location. It was pretty much in the center of the city but in a very quiet area and only a 20 minute walk to/from the train station. The breakfast was great. The single room was on the small side but kept very clean. The only minor problem was the air conditioning didn't work that well but it never got so bad that it was uncomfortable.

Our room was exceptionslly small, although our friends room was a bit larger. Our room was particularly noisey in the evening, as we had to leave the window open for ventilation (many people laughing & talking as they walked by the hotel until the wee hours) and couldn't get the A/C to work. The staff told us that the A/C wasn't available because the hotel was not full. Needless to say, it was a warm, noisey evevning. The breakfast area was on their roof garden with seating both inside & out. It was charming and their cappucinos were delicious! Nice selection for breakfast.

The people at the desk were extremely nice, however did not speak much English. We were able to communicate with broken Italian and made it work. The location is awesome! The Colosseum is a few blocks away and the Colosseo and Cavour metro stops were very close. We also walked to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Quirinale. Great location!! We booked the suite and it was well worth the $140 euro. Very spacious with private terrace. Breakfast was very nice. Would stay here again if we make it back to Rome.

The Hotel was perfectly situated within the City and not too far from the Train station. There were 6 of us travelling together (in 3 rooms). Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was a beautiful start to the day. The capuccino's were excellent too. There were many great restaurants close by to the Hotel. The rooms at the front of the building (on the main road) were a bit noisier with the garbage cans being emptied at 2:00 or 3:00 a.m., however, would still not hesitate to recommend this Hotel to anyone.

If you are looking to walk to most historical sites in Rome this is a great place to stay. The Colosseum is at the end of the street and its a short walk to Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Quattro Fontana and much more. There are a few good restaurants right down the street as well as shopping and ATM. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would recommend this hotel to anyone headed to Rome.

It was a small, family-run hotel. The room was rather spacious, clean and quiet although the shower corner was very, very small. The breakfast at the roof top terrace was nice. Although the hotel did not encash euro travelers check, the hotel showed me a money changer at five minutes walk who encashed T/C with a reasonable three percent commission. There was a super market at a few minutes walk from the hotel. There were several bus stops along the near main street and we used bus and subway services very often.

Massimo and his family could not have been more helpful or nicer. The hotel was lovely, well situated, the rooms were very nice and the breakfast was superb! The Apollo was a good choice for a mid-priced, clean, well run hotel in Rome, where it is hard to find something decent at this price. Breakfast on the rooftop garden was good, although a bit sparse if you get there late. Room and bathroom were very clean, staff was friendly and helpful. A few complaints, but minor ones--one light was missing a bulb, towels were thin, and TV didn't work but the remote probably just needed a new battery which we didn't bother asking for as we didn't need the TV anyway. Overall, a good bargain for Rome. We walked everywhere, although it is quite a hike to Spanish Steps area. This was our third trip to Rome, just spent a few days there before heading north to Venice and Lake Como. Were glad to get away from the hustle and bustle of Rome, even though we love it!

Everything about the Apollo was pleasant, given that it's a budget hotel and you don't expect much as a single traveler. Hotel Apollo is located right in the middle of Rome, with bus stop around the corner to get to all important places. The room was very small but with everything I needed (the bath was nearly bigger than the room itself). I got a room to the back yard, so there was no noise at all. The breakfast on the top of the roof was good. An excellent place to stay in Rome when you just want to see a lot of places and not spending much time at the hotel.

This is a family owned hotel in a great location for visiting all the sites of Rome by foot (one day we walked for six hours and saw nearly everything) or on the "Hop on hop off" bus which leaves from the Forum (at the bottom of the road). The bed and bathrooms are well appointed and, since we were located at the back, quiet. Rooms overlooking the road might be noisier. The owners were really helpful and friendly although they do not speak a lot of English. We loved the rooftop breakfast room and the breakfast buffet was fresh and plentiful. There is a great restaurant just around the corner "Tavernelle" which has a full range of Italian dishes, but specializes in seafood. We would definitely go back to the Apollo Hotel and recommend it to anyone else

Hotel Apollo was great! The staff was very friendly, most of them spoke English, they were very helpful with info about buses, taxis, attractions, etc. There is a room offering internet access. Breakfast was good - lots of fruit, cereal, rolls, juices, cold cuts, cheeses, American coffee (they will happily make capacino or espresso). No bacon/eggs but we're not in the USA! Our room was fine, with Tv, safe, refrig. The maids made it up daily. Bathroom was huge - small shower but par for Europe. Location was ideal - you can see the Colesseum from the hotel (maybe 6 blocks away). It's an easy stroll to Trevi, a little farther to Spanish Steps, Parthenon, Piazza Narvona, etc. Easy bus connection to the Vatican. Several restaurants within 1-2 blocks - also great gelato store. The price was as advertised which was very reasonable for Rome. We would definitely stay here again.

A very nice hotel, in a terrific location, with a helpful staff. The rooms are not luxurious, but perfectly fine, and breakfast on the terrace was very nice. We would definitely stay there again.

Our overall experience at the Apollo was very positive. Staff were very helpful, and ready to answer any questions we had. They offered help to arrange tours, and they contacted a driver with a large van to drive us to the airport, at a reasonable price. We had a suite for 4 people, which was pretty large and comfortable, and had its own terrace. The air conditioner worked perfectly. Another couple that travelled with us had the suite for 2, which was also nice but their bathroom was very small. Breakfast was Ok, the setting in the terrace was nice, and staff were welcoming and courteous.

Very welcoming, after a train ride from Napoli we were quickly shown our room and began exploring Rome again. An easy walk to the Trevi fountain, Il Rotondo, and Piazza Navona and a view of the Colosseo from our room as well! On our same street were two restaurants with good food and wine and reasonable prices. Would stay here again without any hesitation. The hotel staff was excellent and the room was large and clean with a big bathroom. Grazie Apollo!

We were on a birthday trip to Rome, for the first time. Location of hotel is very good being close to the old parts and sights. Surroundings have good service with shops, restaurants and piazzas. Bus traffic also good with a small electric bus going to central locations. The bed was too narrow and soft for two persons. We bothed "rolled" into the middle because it was so soft. We are a couple from Finland and are used to a breakfast with cold cuts, dark bread and something fresh. The cuts were OK but bread was white rolls every morning. No vegetables were served and all the cereals were with added sugar.

This is a great location and excellant hotel. We did not met other people as such, but saw people at the breakfast room. I was travelling with my husband, we stayed in two different rooms on different floors as we were there for 1 night each time, two weeks apart. We arrived early and were able to go to our room. The hotel is family run and small and very friendly, those we dealt with spoke English.

My wife & I stayed recently (Sept. 2007) at the Apollo Hotel, Rome which we found to be excellent and in a great location - Colesseum at the end of the road (could see from our bedroom window). Good restaurants within walking distance. Would highly recommend.

Great family run hotel in quiet section of Rome. It is a small hotel, but very clean and has everything a traveler needs. The roof-top cafe was charming and everyone was very accommodating. Would definitely stay there again.

Slightly apprehensive after reading one review which stated it was the worst hotel they had stayed in but we found it to be great. A brilliant location for exploring Rome on foot, which is what we did for 6 days, some nice restaurants nearby, easy access to the sights of Rome, the shopping area and the central station. The hotel was comfortable and quiet but if you are used to a big chain then the facilities here won't compete. Breakfast on the roof terrace was very nice with a good choice on offer. Looking out of the hotel window to the end of the street and the Colosseum was what we wanted and what we got.

Unfortunately our stay was too brief - just overnight before catching our flight back home the next morning. But the staff were extremely helpful - immediately taking care of a taxi reservation for us to get to the airport the following morning. The location was terrific - so close to many sights, and with several good restaurants nearby. I would certainly recommend the Apollo to friends, and stay here again myself whenever I am in Rome. The value was excellent. I think the Apollo is perfect for the savvy traveler who wants a clean, quiet hotel in a great location and doesn't need to be in a big-name chain property.

This was a great place to stay in Rome.Location was great.Close to all major sites.all within walking distance, even the vatican. The hotel's breakfast was very nice, specially the cappucino and the fresh carrot juice.Staff was nice and helpful.Specially Alessandro, who was always there with helpful suggestions for restaurants, how to get to places(even circled on maps). Also good to know specially for family with children that there are 2 types of pharmacy in italy. The one with red cross is for emergency as well and has a doctor available. What we did not like though was (1)While the room was clean, the sheets were only changed twice during our 5 nights stay, the day we got there on monday and on thursday.I did ask for fresh sheets on day 3 but was told to wait until the next day.Should have gone to Alessandro.(2)The biggest put off was we felt the owner was being pushy about the taxi. His price was higher. We booked with Alessandro for cheaper and when we told him he said that Alessandro did not know anything. He was not pleased. I will definitely recommend this hotel.Just try to book your own taxi so that you are not stuck on the day you leave.

We would reat the Apollo a 10+. It's a great location. Close to the Coliseum. In fact you can walk anywhere except maybe the Vatican and you can take the bus there. The rooms are beautiful, clean, new, comfortable and the air conditioning works. The owners are wonderful people. Most of the staff speaks fluent English and Max makes a great Cappicino. The breakfast which is more than adequate is served in a charming rooftop dining area. We would highly recommend it and if we ever return to Rome would definitely stay there again. There are also great restaurants with varied menus and prices close by. Please feel free to e-mail us if you have questions about your visit to Rome. (aconstin@tampabay.rr.com)

I looked for several days for the perfect hotel at the right price for a special family holiday. I chose the Apollo partly due to the excellent ratings and feedback from guests, which we found to be very beneficial and true. The Apollo did not dissappoint and we will return there when we visit Rome in the future. The hotel is so well located and as the weather was extremely hot it was great to pop back in the midddle of the day. The air conditioning worked perfectly and the staff were very helpful and spoke English. On arrival we took the train to Termini and walked the 15 minutes to the hotel no problem. Due to an early morning return flight the hotel booked a taxi for us to the airport 50 Euros which was much appreciated. A memorable trip for all the right reasons.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Apollo and could not have asked for a better start to our trip. All the staff, especially Alex, was helpful and friendly. It was all you could want from a 3-star hotel. I was also very happy to be able to see the Colissieum from our window, the hotel was in an ideal location between the Colissuem and Trevi Fountain.

Our first visit to Rome, the Hotel was perfectly located for access to all the major sites. Nice restaurants nearby, friendly staff. I've stayed in much worse 4 star hotels than this. Lovely room, perfect breakfast, and helpful staff. Some didn't speak brilliant English, but that adds to the trip for me. Couldn't have been better.

The room we stayed in were very nice and clean, nothing to complain about. The hotel has a great location, near Colosseum and near Piazza Venezia. We´re going to recommend this hotel to anyone who asks. The service was wonderful, nice people who spoke good english. Breakfast on the roof was lovely, and the cappuchino one of the best we´ve ever tasted.

WOW - what a great hotel with an awesome location! Just minutes from the Coloseum, and within walking distance to all of Rome. We arrived before noon, and were promptly shown our room - even though we were unable to let them know that we would be there early. They were very accomodating in every way - finding restaurants, making reservations for us, and arranging our car to the airport to name a few. The breakfast was wonderful, and the rooftop terrace was lovely. We hope to travel to Rome again, and will definitely be staying at the Apollo!

Hotel Apollo was a great option for anyone looking to explore Rome. You can see the Colloseum from the street and is easily accessible from the train station via cab. The rooms were clean and the staff was helpful, though not completely fluent in English. If you are bothered by noice at night be sure to request a room away from the street. I would definitely return to Hotel Apollo on my next trip to Rome.

This room was very small. The bathroom was small and the shower was so small, if you dropped the soap you couldn't pick it up. Location was great but overpriced.

A welcoming family run hotel on a quiet street in a nice neighbourhood. Really close to Rome's historic centre and within walking distance of all the other sites. Also handy for access to the train station but far enough away to avoid the seediness of the area around Termini. The room was clean and tastefully decorated and had very good air conditioning. Breakfast was of a high standard and was served on the small open air terrace.
