This was a pleasant and well-positioned hotel, ideal for the Vatican City and, because of its proximity to Metro Ottaviano, just about anywhere else in Rome too. The tiny reception may take some finding through an archway, but is staffed 24 hours. Rooms accessible by an elevator. Breakfast buffet fairly typical, no problems. Overall I found this a better buy than a nearby 4-star, and recommend it.

The location of the Hotel was excellent for my purposes, Right in the Centre of things for access to the Vatican City and it is Rome so within walking distance of some other interesting areas. Many good restaurants in the area and the Hotel staff did recommend one that was very good. I arrived early 10:30 or 11AM local time to leave my bags but since my room was ready they gave it to me, a great start. Rome has a bad reputation for security (rightly so or not is another story – I felt safe) so feeling secure in Hotel was important and it was secure, there was a safe in the room. The room itself well size wise it was awful, was a solo traveller so this time lost out, got the broom closet. Could not open the wardrobe door fully bed was in the way, very small room, ensuite was tiny, facilities in room not much to talk about. I know Rome hotels are expensive but I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and have stayed in the best and worst Hotels, this is not the worst but for room size and value for money it ranks there but there were compensations on the positive: safe, good location, clean, friendly and included breakfast. I found it reasonable quite, unlike some other reviews. Would I stay there again, yes I would consider it for a short stay but understand from others for Rome room size is often a problem and there is no value for money in general for hotels. To be in Rome again yes I would stay there, the city makes it all OK :) First time I was in Rome so First time in this hotel but have travelled widely throughout Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

Amalia is a great location, its easy access to nearby Vatican, where you can easily spend 3 days+. Also it is nearby the train station (subway). So, it’s easy to get to other sites and to even go to other cities. We liked also in that, it was quiet at night and streets were not crowded. So you can go for a quiet walk. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. In fact, I had lost some documents on the way there, which they were helpful in trying to get it back. Super!!! There’s an excellent small café right at the corner. Try the cappuccino, wow!! There’s even a good set of restaurants nearby. There is a Chinese restaurant about a block and a half-away, fresh food and good on the price. But off course the Italian place were nice. Especially, a small pizza/sandwich place, good food and excellent price. Shopping is available also. We would return to the hotel, our family enjoyed the place.

VERY noisy. Old style elivator that has a metal gate that would create such a loud noise everytime it was closed. Could not sleep. Staff would not move me to another room. No bath tubs. TV had terrible channels, and no football. How can I be in Europe and not get a world cup football match?

This hotel was average. The rooms were just like on the website, and were quiet and spacious. However there was no bar or lobby space to have a quiet drink. The staff were not very welcoming. It is ok for a short stay but i wouldn't stay there for any longer than a week.

I ended up having to be moved and put up in two different hotels because for a single room, the hotel does not provide what its website says it does: the room is not newly renovated, it was not air-conditioned, there was no high-speed Internet access. The hotel staff was very helpful in finding me alternative accomodations, and my traveling companions (who were in a double room) had a very pleasant experience with their room.

In general our room was very nice. Also the breakfast room. What we missed was a lobby to wait for example for the transportation to the airport.

We had an excellent stay at Hotel Amalia. The location was superb (two blocks from the Vatican and two blocks from the San Ottaviano metro stop) and the rooms were nicely done (of the two we reserved, one was a bit small, but nothing relative to other hotels in Rome!). There have been postings on this website and elsewhere about the elevator. It is literally the size of a phone booth. We thought it was very charming though and just added to the overall ambience of this quaint hotel.

I did not consider this a 3 star hotel for the price. The location was good but the comfort of the room was not there. The bed was as hard as a rock and the TV channel selection was not foreigner friendly (not that we watched much TV but it would have been nice to catch up on world news at night). The bathroom was spacious, clean, and fresh towels were given daily. The hotel room was nice but the non-existing lobby was nothing to get excited about or take pictures in. We were unable to change currency at the hotel and the elevator would not work sometimes because some forgot to close the doors. Breakfast was good and the man serving breakfast was very helpful. Overall, I think you could do better for the money.

Hotel Amalia is a charming little hotel located very close to the Vatican and Ottaviano Metro Station. The service was great, breakfast was deliscious and the surroundings were simply magical.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The location was very convenient (2 blocks from Vatican, metro stop just around the corner, bus connections 2 blocks away, lots of shopping nearby). The room was small but adequate, although noisy if the window was open. The staff was very competent, and helpful at getting concert tickets and dinner reservations. I would certainly stay here again.

Overall, I was very pleased with my stay in Hotel Amalia. The room was small, but perfectly adequate. The location was excellent, convenient to the Metro and right around the corner from St. Peter's and the Vatican. The staff spoke excellent English and was very helpful.

It was fine except that the family room had 2 double beds and not ona double and 2 singles as one would expect in a family room. We have 2 teenage children - one male and one female - a double bed for them is not acceptable. The description of a family room needs to be more specific. Otherwise it was fine.

We were very dissapointed in Amalia. We checked out and went to another hotel. The descriptions on Venere were quite misleading. The staff was very unhelpful, no international TV services, no ammenitites when asked for(ice, etc), and no willingness to help on anything. The location was legitimate but not clearly stated in terms of relationship to other center city activities. We will not stay there again nor recommend it to other travelers. This was not our view of 3star hotel.

We had a fantastic time in Rome. The location of the Amalia Hotel is perfect and helped us make the most of our time! The staff were excellent and the room plain but spacious, clean and good value for money. I will be recommending this hotel to my friends and will stay again next year.

While the room was nice, compared to other Hotels we visited during our stay, I found the price of the room too high for the quality of the room and the services offered. Unless either improved, I would not stay there again.
