We stayed there in May 2011. We had 2 rooms for 6 days. Our room was shabby and the bathroom was so small that you could not sit straight on the toilet because the shower was hitting your knees. The shower was also very small and the plastic doors only opened wide enough for you go in sideways. We complained and we finally moved to another room that was still shabby but at least you could walk into the shower. The room was hot and stuffy. They would shut off the air conditioner from the front desk when they felt like it and we would have to call and ask them to please turn it back on. Joseph at the front desk was very rude and nasty to us. We bought hop on hop off tickets for 2 days from a man at the front desk and they made a mistake and charged us too much money. We paid 15 euros each at the desk and given 2 yellow bus tickets and told to pay 15 euro each on the bus.. When we boarded the bus we were told we would have to pay 21 euros and that the hotel only charged us 9 euros. We tried to explain that we had paid 15 euros at the front desk and they would not believe us. They called the hotel 2 times and Joseph told them that we did not pay 15 euros each. We told the women on the bus that we did and she kept yelling she did not understand why they would tell us to pay 15 euros each and she would not give us a ticket for 2 days each. I called the hotel and Joseph said that they did not charge us 15 euros each and wanted to know why we were buying 2 days tickets anyway because he thought we were checking out the next. day. I asked him over and over again to check the money drawer that we had given the man at the desk two 50 euro bills and that he had given us back two 20 euros bills and Joseph kept saying no that they did not have the money. Then he said where do you think it went. I told him I did not know and I was not lying. You would think that the hotel would stand behind their customers and not make us look like fools on the bus.We paid over $3400 for our roo

Perfect location! We walked to everywhere or used the subway around the corner. This is a great hotel, except for the metal plate on the pavement that clanked noisily every time a car drove on it; also, there are many government buildings in the neighborhood, so you frequently hear police cars. After the first night, earplugs did the trick and we slept soundly. Email was accessible; breakfast was good; staff very helpful. From a sixty-four year old used to living on a quiet road.

This hotel is very well located and the staff (except for breakfast!!! where one waiter in particular was very unpleasant) is very good and helpful. Ask if possible for a room as far from the street as possible, as the hotel street is noisy. Room was really clean and the bed was good. There was not much choice for breakfast, but cakes were very good.

Excellent location, although an old building it was nicely decorated with all necessary facilities, competent and friendly staff. Although on a busy street, room was quiet after closing the double glazed windows. The breakfast although did not have a big variety was of good quality.the only negative thing I found were the hard pillows. We would definitely reccomend it.

We were delighted with the location of the hotel and our junior suite was very comfortable. However, the beds were quite hard, the lift a little nerve wracking, and the breakfasts were not too good. But the staff were very friendly and helpful, and we were delighted to be staying in such a lovely part of Rome, with many major sites within easy walking distance.

The location was great, the room was spacious. The staff was pleasant and very responsive and helpful. The room smelled a little damp and the carpet was stained. The bathroom fixtures, the toilet in particular was shoved into a corner and was very uncomfortable to use.

The people working there were absolutely great. Polite, with a big smile!!! We just loved them. The room was very clean, nicely decorated with antiques and had a huge marble bath. Breakfast was satisfactory!!! It was a hotel with personality, we think, at a really nice price. They jvst need to freshen up the walls (they are a bit dirty, at least in our room) and do something about the noise from Via Venetto. We just had a great time!!!

The one down side for me was that I found Rome very hot and in this hotel, the air conditioning was not working. So I could never get cooled off even at night, and so couldn't sleep. To me the air conditioning is a priority. I would stay here again only if they could guarantee it would be working.

My friend and I (grandmas on the loose!....traveling for 2 weeks in Italy) stayed at the Alexandra upon arriving in Rome. We were very fortunate to have booked probably the last "winter special" at a fabulous price! And on Via Veneto! The room was clean and attractive; the breakfast, exceptional; staff, pleasant; beds, adequate. We enjoyed our stay and would happily return. I wholeheartedly recommend the Hotel Alexandra.

The hotel is perfectly located in a very lively and safe area. Metro station just outside of the hotel. Very close to Fontana Di Trevi and other places of interest. The rooms were very clean. We were delighted to have our room upgrated, free of charge, so instead of the Standard Double we got a Deluxe Double. I don't know about the quality of the standard double rooms but the one we got was in an excellent condition. If it was a little bit bigger it would have been perfect. I would stay in this hotel again with the same price for the same room.

We had stayed at the Alexandra on a previous trip and were very satisfied with the overall location and value. We were still please on this trip. However, the staff just seemed a little stand-offish and not terribly friendly. We felt the front desk especially could have been much more welcoming.

Nice hotel with some colorful history, however one needs more than a bit of history to enjoy a stay in a hotel on the famous Via Veneto. We found the staff in this hotel just not interested.

Nice rooms, nice common area, good breakfast. Location is one of the choicest in Rome. Also, parking in Villa Borghese garage is conveniant and inexpensive by Roman standards.

Great hotel on beautiful Via Veneto! I would definitely recommend the hotel to others and will stay there again. Hotel: nice, clean, well-run; all modern conveniences, but family-owned hotel since 1910. Staff: gracious, responsive, customer-oriented; concierge spoke English well and very helpful with questions, car service to airport, telephone calls, etc. No porter for departure at 6:30 a.m., but concierge immediately helped with luggae down to street. Note: hotel foyer is up one flight of stairs off street; but, generally porters quick to come down and take luggage. We had three adults, so we reserved a junior suite with a balcony. The balcony was a fabulous addition! We had cocktails and friends over and just enjoyed the sounds of the City! An "L" shaped room, but fairly spacious (including TV, armoire/closet, two luggage racks, writing desk/chair, two dressers, and an additional chair for seating). Lighting in the room could be improved. Single bed was a comfortable, regular twin bed (not a cot) and doubled for seating. Bath was small (typical; shower only) and a tight entrance at the foot of the double bed, but very clean and updated (with hairdryer). Maybe a little high in price for a 3 star hotel, but worth it and to be in this area. Our friends had a double room they said was very small; prbably less expensive for junior suite than two rooms with three people. Basic common areas and small check-in desk, but several places to sit/read/watch TV and separate space with computer. Breakfast was nice, including eggs and prosciutto, along with Continental buffet. Due to the time of year (late October), the air conditioning was off (individual controls in room, but system off; heat in common areas), so the upper floor (6th - only two rooms with balconies) was warm (80 degrees in Rome). Open windows let the Fall air in and cooled down the room sufficiently. With open windows, some street noise, but not enough to bother us. A great stay!

Hotel well located in a good area. We found 2 of the hotel reception staff to be off hand, sometimes rude. Not a very friendly welocme on arrival, perhaps the staff forget they are in the tourist industry. However, 2 younger reception staff, breakfast and cleaning staff were very friendly, professional and polite. Although clean our bathrooms were very tired (we had 2 double rooms for 7 days). We did feel the hotel would benefit from serving drinks ie tea coffee etc in the lounge. Tip: when in Rome use taxis - very good value for money! Rome is great place, a week wasn't long enough!

Great location to use as a base to visit sites in Rome. Staff was good, I asked and received room at rear as it is a busy street in front. I was provided an upgrade in room, which was appreciated. Breakfast had good choices of cold items, there was good service. We used the subway to travel to St. Peter's and it was very easy to use. Note: buy ticket (1 euro per ticket) from "Change booth/store" which is located four doors down the street just across from stairs to the subway.

Great Hotel. Stayed here 3 nights before going on a cruise. This was my girls and I first time in Rome. This hotel is perfectly located close to Trevi fountain and Spanish steps. also close to good shopping that both the girls and I enjoyed. Our room was big and spacious with three single beds. 2 were close together( as a king) and 1 was apart. Room had a very nice bathroom with a large jacuzzi tub. We were three girls traveling alone and felt very safe here. The breakfast was adequate, however, did not like eating in a room with no view of the outside. We ate and did not linger. Plenty of good restaurants and gelato places. Close to hotel is an internet cafe, bank, money exchange. I recommend this hotel it was a good deal for the price. I made arrangements with the hotel for transfers from airport to hotel and hotel to cruise port citvichecchia. It was well organized and on time. Enjoy your stay, We did!

I would definately stay here again. The location was really good, the open-top bus stops opposite the hotel and the main sites were in walking distance. We had a triple room (double room and a separate single room!) whilst we didn't have a view and it was really quiet and we didn't have any noise at all.

Rome is a very expensive city, especially with the Euro at $1.30 US. The location of the hotel was excellent and the value was good for that location. The room was large with a nice bed. Breakfast was included but just OK. The staff was very helpful with questions about the area. I would stay there again but, ask for a room not facing the via Veneto.

My sons, ages 10 and 13, and I had a wonderful stay here. The staff treated us great and were very helpful with all our requests, and helped us get our lost luggage. While the price may seem high, thats to be expected in Roma. With the metro just outside the door, a great location for getting around. While I usually stay in the Spanish Steps area, I had no problem with Via Veneto. Would stay here again.

We found the Hotel to be very central. The Room was spotless, if a little on the small side. The Reception Staff were very helpful. The Hotel Alexandra is in an excellent location. The price available on Venere compared very favourably indeed with the prices stated within the hotel. The staff are all very efficient, but "coolly" so: don't expect friendliness. The room was big enough, since we didn't spend a great seal of time in it. Very pleasant breakfast-room with good choice.

All desk clerks unfriendly, but one was very, very rude. No clock or safe in guest rooms. Junior suite was spacious and immaculately clean, but TV was old and tiny. Never got hot water in basin, but shower was good. Breakfast buffet was good and in a pretty room, but only 1 overworked staff member to take care of everyone. Hotel in excellent part of Rome with easy access to the sights. Worst aspect of hotel was the desk staff.

The location of the Hotel was excellent with a beautiful tree lined street outlook. Closeness to facilities excellent. Breakfast was quite pleasant and the room adequate. The shower a tight squeeze. The hotel is excellently positioned for tourist attractions, restaurants and shops with the metro just a few steps away. Our room was on the small size but clean and quiet (situated at the back of the hotel). What was a overall a pleasant enough stay was marred by appaling hotel management. For 4 of our 5 day stay, breakfast was not available. Apparently a gas leak prevented us having the full breakfast we enjoyed on the first morning (even thought the hotel restaurant remained open for lunch and dinner). The rude manager refused to provide an equivalent breakfast service elsewhere, but grudgingly offered some (albeit insufficient) compensation.

The location is great, price for what you get is pretty good. We had some problems, more related to management than anything else. We made reservations in January for July; when we arrived, the room we reserved was not available and we were put into a beautiful suite for the first of three nights. Unfortunately, it was 43 degrees C. and the room's air conditioning was not working, which the management had failed to tell us. We finally got a fan to move the air around after I begged (they offered no assistance). They promised to move us to our originally requested room for the next two nights, but the next morning they were moving us to another room. By the time we had finished breakfast, they were going to keep us in the beautiful suite at the price of the smaller room and promised the A/C would be working. By the time we came back from sightseeing, they had moved us again into another smaller room with good A/C, thankfully. The hotel personnel were not especially friendly or helpful, but I think they were no better or worse than any tourism workers we encountered in Rome; they must all be sick of dealing with tourists, for they are not friendly or particularly helpful. We travel to Europe at least twice a year and try to be "good", but I found we could only get cooperation from the hotel management by being "bad" - complaining loudly and persistently. Overall, I loved the hotel and would go back, in spite of the management problems. I think it's just "Italy".

Although I had an excellent stay, my parents also stayed during this time and their reservation was "lost" when they arrived to check-in, although I had the written confirmation in front of me. They did not offer them another room in the hotel. Rather, they offered them a room in a neighboring hotel. Although it all ended up ok, they should have been more accomodating. PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR RESERVATION PRIOR TO ARRIVAL!

We booked two rooms in this hotel (double and triple) from May 28 through May 31. When we arrived, we were told that they had upgraded our rooms at no charge. Both rooms were spacious even by American hotel standards with large bathrooms. The double also had a large balcony. Rooms were clean (immaculate actually) and well kept as was the hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful with requests. Location was excellent - across the Via Veneto from the metro stop (Barbarini) and all sites were within walking distance. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Alexandra is a small, clean and relatively inexpensive hotel located right on the Via Veneto. Our room was in the back of the building so it was quiet but much smaller than I expected. The bathroom was clean and modern. The breakfast buffet, included in the price, was among the nicest offered by any hotel we stayed at in Italy (it even included eggs and bacon). The Alexandra is also only one block from the Piazza Barbarini Metro stop so it's convenient to get to the train station or the Vatican. The only downside for me was that Via Veneto (and the Spanish Steps area, too) have become extremely "Americanized" and "touristy." I think next time, I'd choose to stay in a quieter, more quaint part of Rome. All things considered, however, this place is a bargain based on price and location.

We are a family of four, and stayed in one room. This property is in a very old building with alot of charm! The fresco on the ceiling for breakfast is lovely. Breakfast ok. Our room was very spacious. The bathroom offered 2 showers. One shower leaked all over the bathroom floor a bit messy, but was always cleaned up when we returned from sight seeing. My suggestion would be if you plan on making a change to your stay, like we did, put it in e-mail!! We handled a change to our reservation by phone, and when we arrived our room was not available. (presidental suite) However the staff was most accomodating and allowed us to pick from 2 other available rooms, which where beautiful! The location is a very short walk from the train station, and centrally located to all major sights. I would recommend this hotel to others.

This was a really nice hotel, in a really nice location. We walked everywhere, without much difficulty. The service provided is good and the room was large with a jacizzi bathroom, just what you need after a days sightseeing. The room was quiet with plenty on double glazing, the road it is on is busy but not noisy. The reception and breakfast room were both small but this was of no issue. There is a nice lounge area downstairs but we didn't use it. This is a nice hotel, in a nice part of Rome. We'll definitely be going back to this specific hotel and indeed that specific room, if we can get it!

1 reason we chose this hotel was because it had air conditioning. When we got there, we were told that the A/C wasn't turned on yet. It was warm during our stay. We had to keep the windows open for comfort; which also meant a lot of noise from the Via Veneto all night long. Sleeping was intermittent. We asked for a different room, without success. The front desk staff was not at all accommodating, including not doing anything to help after I was pickpocketed getting onto the Metro. We shared our concerns (and displeasure) with hotel staff, and requested a refund of some of our fees. We have heard nothing from them since we left on March 20th. WE WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS HOTEL AND PROBABLY WILL NOT BOOK THROUGH VENERE AGAIN.

Staff were quite friendly and helpful. Hotel location is excellent - easy walking distance from all major attractions and easy subway access. After shopping around and looking at comparable hotels, the Alexandra is very good value for the price. The only significant drawback is noise - our room faced on to Via Veneto and traffic noise is constant. Soundproofing of windows would help. However, I would go back to this hotel without any question.

Lovely, old fashioned hotel. Updated to high standard. Wonderful breakfast. Friendly staff. Location very central, even with kids from the age of 7 all sights easily accessible by public transport and on foot.

On the whole the hotel was great and in a wonderful location. The staff was helpful and very polite. The hotel was clean. However the first room they gave us was very small and the shower was tiny. It was loud at night with the traffic on the Via veneto. I asked for a larger room and they gave us a much nicer, quieter room toward the back of the hotel when it became available on our third day. I would return to the Alexandra any time. The location was wonderful and we found many nice restaurants in the area.

What a wonderful place to stay for our three days in Rome. I didn't see a more quaint and beautiful location for a hotel. Tree lined streets with restaurant gazebos on the sidewalk. Easy walk to Spanish steps and Trevie Fountain. Metro location for Vatican access just 100 yds away. Staff arranged a shuttle back to the airport so we didn't have to fight with our luggage on the Metro. Room was clean, plenty of hot water in the shower. Breakfast was as good as it gets in Rome. Eggs and Bacon! Restaurants of all types everywhere. My family really enjoyed eating in the Alex Gazebo.

It was very difficult to get rest staying at Hotel Alexandra. We had a very small room facing the street, which had a metal grate in the middle of the road. When the traffic ran over the grate, the noise was very loud and disturbing. Also, we were constantly awakened by slamming doors and could hear everything from the room next to us. Most of the staff were competant, however, the morning of our flight out, our wake-up call was not placed. There was no alarm clock in the room and we were very rushed getting to the airport. The breakfast is OK, but for extended stays like ours, the soggy eggs and boiled bacon was just not palitable anymore.

Che bellezza, This hotel remains the most welcoming and charming place on the Via Veneto. Roma is not a machine in terms of service, but Alexandra staff show great care in providing a friendly accommodation in a beautiful part of Roma.

I found the Hotel Website very misleading. I was expecting a certain standard of room and on arrival we were shown to an old fashioned sub-standard room. When we asked for a similar room as appears on the Hotel Website we were quoted 3 times the amount for a room of that standard. We had to change rooms the first night due to the noise on the street outside. The Hotel did not appear to have double glazed windows at the front of the hotel and it is situated on a very busy main street. We were charged twice the amount for the new room but as we were so exhausted from travelling we just took it. The second room was old fashioned and was in need of an update. I certainly expected a higher standard of room for the price we were paying which was over €200 per night. The noise insulation was poor as we could hear simple noises like footsteps from the room above. The phone in the room was faulty. We tried on numerous occasions to get an outside line. It was a very simple procedure but we could not get an outside line until at least our tenth attempt.

We had a wonderful stay at the Alexandra! The front desk was accommodating and friendly. The rooms were clean and quiet. Mostly the location was fabulous and close to everything from historic sites, great restaurants and the subway. I highly recommend this hotel and would stay there again and again!

I had a great room, in a great location at a reasonable price. Seemed like too good a deal. Poked my head in other rooms where maids were cleaning and they did not seem as spacious as mine. Would absolutely stay here again but am afraid I was filling a room that someone else pulled out of at the last minute. Jeepers... to be complaining about a great room!

My husband and I had the most amazing stay at the Hotel Alexandra. The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was wonderful. Our room was large and had a huge jacuzzi bathtub in it with marble surround. We would definitely recommend this hotel and cannot wait to return!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Alexandra. The staff was very welcoming. The hotel is in a great location for exploring the city. The area is very safe and close in proximity to several key areas including the subway for areas like the Vatican. The room rate was a bit high, but they definitely met our expectations. Breakfast was excellent as well. The coffee was amazing! We stayed in two different hotels during our time in Rome and Hotel Alexandra was by far the best experience.

Hotel was in the perfect location for us as needed to be close to the Spanish steps (5 mins walk) Room and bathroom very good, staff very welcoming and friendly... Improvements could be made on the breakfast which was quite bland, juices seemed powder to which water was added.. service in the restaurant was alittle slow the saturday night we were in.. When next in Rome would certainly return..

From the time we arrived to the time our porter put us in a cab to leave the service was absolutely wonderful and nothing but professional. Our room was upgraded at no charge, they verified cab rates to ensure we were not being charged to much. All of our questions were answered with both humor and professionalism. Coming from Canada there were alot of questions and they never grew weary of us. Would highly recommend the Hotel Alexandra to anyone travelling to Rome, and we will be staying here again if and when we return to Rome.

We thought the hotel was in an excellent location and staff were friendly. Breakfast was good with a selection that would suit most people. Although our room at the back of the hotel it was adequate and we had no problem with noise.P.S. Only downside to the holiday was that we had a bad experience/meal at the restuarant attached to the HOTEL BARBARINI

The Alexandra is a very good hotel for the price and location. Most of the desk employees including the obvious manager were very good and helpful. Two others were just the opposite. Again, this hotel is centrally located and the price value is outstanding.

Great location on Via Veneto. Very good value although standard double rooms (and bathrooms) are too small for most travelers. Upgrade to a suite which is large and a great value. Lobby and hallways are a bit worn. Expect a stay at a nice villa with a great location, not an American hotel. Concierge and staff are very helpful and kind.
