The room matched our expectations however the customer service was appalling. On our first evening, December 20, 2012, we had a nice gentleman greet us. Though the service went downhill from that night onward. The lady working on reception the 21st and 22nd was, apart from unhelpful, extremely rude and it was seemingly apparent she went out of her way to ignore the patrons. The cleaner was the nicest employee we met and reflectively, the job was well done, our room was always clean. Hotel Alessandrino insisted on taking your room key when you left the premises. This was not uncommon on our travels, though waiting 10 minutes to be given it when you return was. The breakfast food was good and diverse. On our first morning at 7.30am, we were very happy. However it is only served from 7.30-9.30am. Please note: food is not topped-up. If it is gone at 9am as it was on q morning of our stay, you may have the only option we did; cereal without milk and watered down juice. And seating, once someone has eaten breakfast, the tables are not cleared until end of service at 9.30am so you will have to sit in muck. I highly recommend attending at 7.30am on the dot. I would recommend as a place to sleep but not as a tourist requiring help or advise. It is close to Vatican City though, easily walking distance.

it is supposed to be a 3 star hotel and it is actually a 0 start motel, it is horrible the pictures have nothing to do with the real thing. the rooms are big but old and the bathrooms were nasty, they had mold every where and the towels seemed used from the other guest before us. i had my room changed twice because they do not let you cancel but only 4 days before your check in or else there is a fee. but honestly worst in Italy!!

worst hotel ever, the bathrooms are horrible they are dirty and the toilets and showers have stains as well as a little mold. the rooms are old,the pictures are fake nothing to do with the actual hotel. i felt really disappointed! i had to change rooms twice and ask for new towels because they were dirty so that made the experience worst. the price is too expensive for the 0 start hotel experience i had. the hotel is far from everything except the vatican city!! but worst hotel!!!

The breakfast was great. The hotel was very noisey. The hotel was in a residental area, no restuarants nearby. The short walk from the metro was many blocks uphill on a coblestone street.

All looks fine at the arrival. Good welcoming at the reception, spacious room, nice hotel well situated. the BAD surprise arrived the first night. despite a really noisy air cond system, the room get just fresh. Moreover, they stop the air conditionning system at 2:00 am during the night. At 3:00 am, the temp in the room is 30 celcius and it is impossible to sleep (we stayed in july). We asked during all our stay about that to be chaged, but they always workaround the problem. The result is that we had very bad sleep, we were completely wet during the night, children wake up in the night without being able to get asleep again. Not a good rest at all when visiting such a town. we haven't had the attended service on that point.

The Hotel is very clean but old-looking. The matresses are old and not very comfortable, and some of the bedframes are squeeky (I switched bedframes from another room because of it). The pictures make the rooms seem far bigger than they are, but they are still comfortable. The walls are thin. The bathrooms are very clean and the showers are good, but the toilets dont do a good job of flushing. Superior Room: I stayed in a superior double room, which was not any better than a regular, except it got more light because superiors are on the third and fourth floors (as opposed to the first and second floors) but the view was not all that great on our side, however I would still recommend it for the five euro difference. Location: you have to walk up a large hill to get to it and pass a prime homeless-person sleeping spot, not in an attractive neighborhood. About an 8-10 minute walk to the Vatican, and 17 minutes to the nearest metro (to the north).

We chose this hotel for its closeness to the Vatican. I am very pleased with our choice. Walking time was about 15 minutes. Finding the hotel the first time was difficult. We chose public transportation from Roma Termini and all went well until we left the bus. By asking several people we were able to locate the hotel. It is well worth the initial trouble. The room was large, clean, and quiet. The staff was most helpful. The neighborhood is very safe for walking around at night. We would stay at Hotel Alessandrino again.

The hotel was exactly what we expected as for walking distance from St. Peter piazza. There was no parking, so I had to park a couple of blocks away from the hotel on the street. The breakfast was a brillant surprise, they actually served cold cuts along with the typical breads and juices. They also had provided scrambled eggs and yogurt. I would recommend anyone wanting to visit the Vatican to stay here, but only if you're taking the train or some other transit since the parking is almost non-existent.

We stayed in this hotel in March 2009 for 4 nights and loved this quiet, cosy hotel with a wonderful view to the St. Peters Cathdral Roof. The room was spacious enough for 2 people, the bathroom as well spacious and modern. The breakfast was included in the hotel price and very good. The hotel staff is very nice and offered a taxi call to the airport at a fair price. You can call the hotel in advance to make a reservation for a taxi pick-up at the airport when you arrive (app. 50 Euro). Be aware of many private (illegal) taxis. The hotel is on a little hill, easy to walk if you don't have walking problems (old pavement). It takes about 10 minutes from the hotel down to the left side of the Vatican wall. Busses run to the Vatican and a trainstop is there as well. No public busses drive up the hill. To the center of Rome, it will take you about 20 minutes (walking to the bus stop and a 10 minutes bus drive). We will come back to this friendly hotel on our next Rome trip.

Great location, it is not too central, however it is close to the Vatican and of a morning the church bells can be heard. San Pietro station is a 5 minute walk away, with bus 64 coming every 5 to 10 minutes and it takes you right into the centre. The staff were very friendly and professional. My single room was clean and comfortable, I would definately stay here again. Also, for a taxi from Termini station to the hotel it cost 14 euro.

Overall the hotel was Ok. There was a few issues we ran into when we arrived. It looked like they were painting so the downstairs smelled of paint etc. However, since our room was not ready they did put us up in another hotel that was next door. That hotel turned out to be very nice. There was a price difference but hotel alessandrino covered that and only had us pay the quoted venere.com price. Our room was ready the next day and the paint smell was completely gone. I ordered a double bed standard but that was not what we had. Instead we had 2 small beds seperate from each other. The bathroom was not as clean as it should have been but was good enough. The phone did not work well at all and had a lot of static when we tried to speak to the front desk. The breakfast was basic with cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee and pastries. Overall the staff was nice and accommodating to us. We had luggage lost by the airline and the hotel tried to help us with that which we did appreciate. The view of the vatican is beaufitul from the top of the hotel so you are in a decent location. Make sure you take note of the street the hotel is on because its very easy to get lost around this area as my wife and I did. I recommend you take a taxi from the airport to the hotel instead of trying to find it yourself. We paid 40 euros for that and it worked out fine. There are several different hotel alessandrino so make sure you tell the cab driver you want Via Clemente Alessandrino 9.

Zu finden ist das Hotel etwas schwierig, jedoch fahren Busse fast bis direkt zum Hotel.Einzig das Frühstück war ziemlich ärmlich. The location of the hotel is definitely convenient according to the price. However the breakfast is quickly boring as nothing changes from one day to another. Furthermore, we once asked for the "english breakfast" and despite the receptionist said it was ok for the next day, they were unable to serve it because they said thay "do not have eggs and ham any more". So this was the major disappointent of the stay. But the people working there were really nice and the rooms very clean and spacious.

A very nice hotel with very friendly and helpful desk personnel. Unfortunately, the same is not true when it comes to breakfast personnel, which did not provide a good service. Also, directions to get to the hotel from San Pietro station should be improved. I hope my comments will be helpful! Saluti!

Hi, had a bit of difficulty finding the hotel, as our map wasn't very good, and we didn't know the local shortcuts. Once in the hotel, we loved staying there. We even got a present from the hotel, as we came to Rome for our honeymoon! The hotel is located just outside the town centre, but it is very easy to get to the Vatican (easy walk) and the city centre (regular bus service)from there. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and clean. If we ever come to Rome again, we will definitely stay at the hotel Alessandrino!

the hotel is difficult to find, but very nice surroundings, close to the Vatican. The nice roof-balcony was a good alternative, as the hotel lacks a garden. Very nice and helpful staff.

The hotel was great overall. The bathroom was very small but clean. The biggest problem was the location, though. Although the hotel wasn't far from St. Peter's Square, Trastevere, or the center of Rome, it was high on the top of a hill where no buses or metros ran. The walk up the hill gets old after a couple nights, especially since Roma is such a pedestrian place. Otherwise the hotel was a great experience. Quiet, great views, and pleasant accomodations.

To be honest, I did not have high expectations for any of the hotels in Italy from reading everyone else's comments. I was satisfied with the hotel because it had a heater & hot water (very important for November), a fridge, an elevator, cable TV with english channels, and a satisfying breakfast. The shower was kinda cramp and I dont think our towel heater was working. The hotel seemed to be located in a neighborhood close to the San Pietro station so catching the metro or bus to get to everywhere else was easy.

Disappointment is the word of the day for this hotel. Not only is it a LONG walk from St. Peter's, it's next to impossible to find, tucked in a tiny alley in a run-down residential area. The rooms are decent, if shabby. The real let-down is the quality of service. No, we weren't expecting the Ritz, but we found the employees at the front desk to be rude and uninformed. It seemed like it was a big burden for them to stop chatting on the phone with their friends for us to ask simple questions like where we can park our car. Checkout took fifteen minutes, and we were the only ones in line at 5:30 AM. And at 140 euros, it was not cheap. I would not advise staying at this hotel.

Reading the comments on Venere.com, I was prepared on what to expect. We stayed at Alessandrino for 4 nights and it was a lastminute booking, we accepted to have a noisy room. The walls are very thin (2. floor) and I heart everything, my neighbour did in their bathroom. Unfortunately, the doors close very loud and this also can wake you up several times a night, when other guest come back. We didn't have breakfast as we stood up late and had breakfast in a nearby Bar. This hotel is okay if you know what to expect and stay there for only a few nights.

This hotel was really very nice, quiet, clean, within a short walk (10-15 min.) to St. Peter's and the vatican. The breakfast even included scrambled eggs and yogurt! Staff was friendly and spoke English well. The worst part was just trying to find the place from the directions posted on the website. I would recommend getting more explicit directions before you get there if you are walking. <To help a bit: after you get off the bus, you need to go under the tracks (to the back side of the station), turn right and go up the hill until you see the set of steps on the left. Take the steps (at the top is a shrine to the virgin Mary) and continue going straight up the hill. Hotel is tucked away on the left toward the top of the hill, but there is a sign posted by the road.> If you go down to Via Gregoria VII there are some shops and during the morning there is a market as well.

Alessandrino is a bit hard to find, but overall a pleasant hotel. One receptionist spoke fluent english, while the other only knew a few words (we still managed alright). It is not located in the most pleasant section of Rome, but the hotel itself was more than fine. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Vatican, and from there about another 15 minutes to the center of Rome. The room was more than fine for us, which we used as a basecamp to explore other parts of the city. The room was clean, came with a minifridge, and a fairly large bathroom. Families traveling with children might find them a bit cramped, unless they opt for more expensive rooms.

I had a reservation but I was told I was not in their computer, so I did not have a room. I was given a room in the basement of the building next door, with no hot water. The staff did not care about us or our problems with this arrangement. We were told we must go to the only room they could get for us and that was in the Hotel Luxor,(owned by the same company or person of course). The Hotel Luxor is on the other side of town, on a busy intersection. We were on the second floor. The traffic noise kept us up most of the night, also there was shouting outside in the street,a possible fight of some kind. We had this room for 2 nights. I booked these reservations months in advance to be close to Vatican City and also to be in the same hotel as my sister. We had to travel across town for every tour we had booked, spending too much time commuting and very little time with family. I do not want or think I sould have to pay for a basement room. What little I saw of the hotel did not impress me at all. What did impress me was the indifferent attitude displayed by all of the staff at the Hotel Alessandrino. If I couod rate the hotel staff it would be a -10. As far as help from anyone, very little English was spoken by the staff, or perhaps that is what they wanted us to think because they certainly did not want help us in any way.

My sister & I w/spouses booked rooms at Hotel Alessandrino but my spouse & I arrived a day later. Upon our arrival on June 28th, my sister said even tho we both had confirmation #s thru Venere booking, theirs wasn't entered in the hotel computer & they had no room for them! They put them in a basement apt 2 doors down which was cold & no hot water for showers! It was miserable! When we arrived, they had checked out & it was arranged for them to stay at the Luxor hotel across town! We didn't want to be separated from them because of tour plans & Luxor didn't have room for us. We had to catch the bus to meet up w/them. Being new to Rome we missed the bus stop & were lost for a while, asking directions. Our room was nice w/minor problems but the a/c never cooled the room enough. Due to their neglecting to enter the confirmation #, this greatly inconvenienced the 4 of us!! The staff wasn't helpful, didn't care but when we wanted to contact our tour company to leave, the girl at the desk helped us call & get thru the Italian prompts on the phone menu for our van company. The breakfast was OK. None of our drivers seemed to know where this hotel was located. We had printed out directions from the website but they really didn't speak English & it was hard to communicate. We ended up paying $400 usd for 2 nights under aggrevating conditions!

Modern hotel with nice, friendly and clean rooms. Our room was reasonable size with a very large terasse. Quiet area, 10 min to Vatikan by walking. Somewhat difficult to find. Receptionist women are not really friendly and seem not to care. Not helpful. Big disappointment: small breakfest with everyday the same mortadella and eggs. But you could ask for cappucino-and get it.

A very pretty hotel, beautifully designed, very clean, with fantastic views and two roof terraces. The neighbourhood was extremely quiet, with no traffic noise, but close to a bustling litte market, two well-stocked supermarkets with deli counters, and great, cheap neighbourhood pizzeria (down the stairs, turn right at the bottom). Don't go to the one by the market - nowhere near as good. It's a short walk to the Vatican, which means a longer walk to anywhere else, but there are a variety of good buses from the main road (the 46 seems to go every 3 minutes into the centre of Rome; the 64 is less frequent, and will take you to Termini, the main train station.) You will need a taxi to get to the hotel, though. It's a steep walk up the hill from the nearest bus stop. Criticisms: the breakfast was generous but rather poor quality. Mortadella rather than ham; processed triangles instead of fresh cheese; no fruit at all. But lots of lovely pastries if that's your thing. And the 'orange juice' was disgusting: synthetic and bright orange. But the staff are lovely - and they will make a cappuccino for you if you ask. Fresh scrambled eggs are served around 8.00, so if you're a fan make sure you're there before they're all gone! Oh yes, the air conditioner didn't work. This didn't matter much when we were there, but check yours when you arrive before accepting the room!

The hotel was great. Nice sized room, nice bathroom and a fairly good breakfast. As far as Rome goes, this was a great area, nice and close to the Vatican and plenty of places to eat just a few minutes walk away. The people at the front desk were very nice. The hotel was nice a quiet, well kept up, clean and very enjoyable stay. I think other reviews talk about a big hill? Sure there's an incline but from how many people mentioned it I had to laugh at how small of a grade it actually was...that coming from a 32 year old walking up it with a 50 lb.(22.5 kg) backpack. We actually walked everywhere from here(Spanish Steps, Coliseum etc.) Sure it was a long day walking but really not a big deal.

Hotel was a little bit difficult to locate...even the taxi driver had to stop and ask directions because it's next to a church and tucked in a very residential neighborhood. However, once there, it was very convenient to the Vatican...about a 15 minute walk. Staff was very pleasant and helpful and it was quiet in the evenings. Room was clean but the carpet in the room we stayed was overdue for replacement.

I would recommend this hotel very highly to anyone visiting Rome. Our room was clean, spacious, comfortable and it had an incredible view of the Vatican. I was very surprised at how actually big the room and bathroom were since most people complain about the size of the rooms. This was clearly as good as a Marriott here in the states. The hotel is rated as 3 star, but I would rate it as a 4 star. The staff was very accommodating.

Lovely, quiet, comfortable hotel with very generous breakfast. Not as difficult to find as other reviewers have suggested, but proper directions on the hotel website would help a lot. It's up a hill, but Rome is all about hills, and you get a view of St Peter's basilica. From Stazione San Pietro main entrance, turn left and back on yourself to follow Via del Monte di Gallo ever upwards. Once you pass the caffe on the left, just look out for tiny Via Clemente Alessandrino on the left. New Metro Line C (still under construction) will make it much easier to get from this station to other major sights, but with a combination of trains, buses and lots of walking, we managed ok. Vatican is just 10 minutes away and getting back at night from Trastevere (good for restaurants and general wandering about) is less than 10 Euros in a taxi. High season prices are more, but we paid 75 Euros a night in late Feb/early March which we felt was a bargain, and the weather was warm and sunny too!

The exterior of the hotel is nice and the rooms have charm. I do have a few problems with this hotel though. 1. It was very hard to find. 2. The beds in the room are uncomfortable and old. The sheets had stains and bedding was worn out. 3. When we returned to the room in the evening it felt like a furnice. We cracked the window and turned down the heat for a few minutes. In the middle of the night when the room was cold, we tried to turn the heat back up. However the hotel turns off the heat at 12 am and don't turn it on until 9 am in the morning! We weren't told this at all and when we tried to call and ask for help, they said there was nothing they could do until 9 am! 3. We had our 2 yr old daughter with us and asked for a baby cot to be put into the room. At check out, we were charged 10 euro for the cot! We've stayed at plenty of 3 star hotels in Europe and have never been charged. Regardless, the staff should have mentioned this at check in or during the reservation process.

At 145 euros/night, we found the hotel rather expensive but I guess Rome generally is expensive. The main problem was that their credit card machine was being replaced and we had to pay by cash. We did not find it easy to find a bank that was either open or would help us so we wasted maybe 1.5 hours sorting this out. Otherwise the hotel was fine and staff friendly and helpful. The location is a bit difficult (not easy to find)and there is a steep walk from the local station.

Hotel Alessandrino is impossible to find, especially based on the map provided on the website. Our shower drain was blocked and it took the hotel 2 days to sort this out. The hotel is also a very long steep walk from the nearest train station. The best thing about the hotel is the quietness.

Some mention should be made about the steepness of the hill and that the bus stop is at the bottom of the hill about 150 meters away; not good for the disabled. The Air conditioner was inadequate to cool the room and the A/C is turned off from 10 AM to 5 PM daily. Breakfast was enjoyable and the staff was courteous and helpful.

Nice place to stay if you don't mind walking a lot - up a hill! Bar on the way though, so not too bad. Be careful about nearby train station employees - not helpful and got us hopelessly lost on the trains. Breakfast was good and staff was helpful. We've stayed here 2x, but have found a better place elsewhere that fits our particular needs.

There needs to be a far better description on the site of how to reach the hotel by car. Greater reference needs to be made to the hotel access actually being on Via Monte Del Gallo as this street is well known in the area and appears clearly on maps and passers by can provide directions.

A lovely little hotel. A bit far away from the city center - and located on top of a hill - but the distance was walkable (even though the whole walking back, freshening up, walking to have dinner, walking back was a bit much on some days). We really got more than we hoped for. Alessandrino is clean, quiet, comfortable, affordable. A real gem.

I have marked my overall stay as excellent but I would like to point out that this is due to the hotel's location, ie a quiet area and in Rome and not due to the hotel itself. The staff were helpful on arrival and made suggestions as to where we might like to go while in Rome. We were shown to our room (Room 4) which was just off reception. There was a constant loud noise, which I think was due to an electric generator next to the room. I asked the reception staff if we might have another room and was informed that there were none available. The member of staff looked surprised and I was informed that the noise might be down to the plumbing and that someone might be having a shower. I was told someone was coming out to fix it later that afternoon. We decided to stay anyway mainly due to the fact that my wife didn't want to go searching for another hotel and she can sleep through just about anything - I have to use earplugs and was lucky enough to have them with me. I would suggest you take some, just in case. The counterpane on the bed was grubby on close inspection. Otherwise my stay was a good one. The breakfast provided between 7.30am and 9.30am (if I recall correctly) was good and set us up for a days walking and the italian restaurant reccomended by the hotel was good - It was quiet on the Tuesday but it was really busy on the wednesday perhaps due to the Pope being available to the public on Wednesdays, although that is a guess. If it had not been for the noisy room I would be raving about this hotel I think - the noise from the plumbing wasn't fixed so you would get that noise on top of the background noise. The hotel was well positioned for someone prepared to walk around Rome, but I go walking in my spare time and my wife runs so bear this in mind when you make your decision - It was a ten minute walk to the vatican and 15 minutes to the metro. So my advice would be to make sure in advance that you are not going to be on the ground floor a

Excellent stay! recommend Hotel especially if you are going to visit St Peters and the Vatican. Hotel is up a slight hill but it was not a problem. People mentioned on previous reviews that there were steps, i did not see any!! Bus stop 5 mins walk away with plenty of buses going into the center which is about 5 mins on a bus. To walk to the center was about 25 mins depending on what route you took. Rooms where well kept and cleaned everyday. For the price this hotel was excellent as hotels in and around the centre where very expensive. Cheers, Mike & Claire. xxx

The only thing we did NOT like was the shower, it is not spaced off from the sink or toilet. Basically a drain on the tile floor, and a shower curtain to try and not get water all over the bathroom. Those NEVER work well...and it just seems gross! We were disapointed only in this. So ask for a REAL shower....una doccia vera per favore! Che schiffo.

We read the comments on this property carefully before booking, and it lived up to our expectations. The hotel is very new, and the rooms clean and modern. The included breakfast was very good -- the best we experienced on our trip. While the location is not in the middle of Rome, it is a nice suburban area, and it is close to everything (the Vatican is about a 10-15 minute walk; everything else in Rome is easily accessible by the 64 bus [used to be the 62] which leaves from the nearby San Pietro commuter rail station).

CLose to the Vatican and other attractions. The address is nearest 101 and 105 Monte di Gallo. I would only recommend walking from the San Pietro station if you have light amounts of luggage since the steps are a bit steep and long. I enjoyed meeting the bartender at the Irish pub at the bottom of the steps. Very friendly and helpful. Only suggestion to the hotel would be to please adjust the automatic room door closing devices, since they tend to slam the door close. That can be loud late at night. We had a very easy time getting to this hotel even though some of the earlier comments indicated it was hard to find. Just take the train to St. Peters and get a taxi...the hotel is on the hill directly above the station and can really be navigated on foot...but I suggest you save that until after your luggage has been unloaded. Overall the room was great and the bathroom was awesome with lots of room, a big tub and extremely clean. However, our room was on the same floor as reception so we could hear all the activity in the lobby 24 hours a day. Additionally, the plumbing in the building is quite loud and whenever the rooms above flushed or showered, we could hear it. The breakfast was great and by far had the most variety of all the breakfasts we experienced in our stay in Italy (12 days, 3 locations). I would definitely choose this hotel again...I would just request a room on a higher floor.

We chose Alessandrio after reading some of it´s reviews and since we were going mostly to Vatican City, this was the perfect location. Very accurate description on the web, so no surprises at arrival. Good breakfast and easy access to transportation when you exit through the right and don´t go down the steps, but instead through St. Peter´s train station. The only annoying thing, was the noise of the elevator since our room was close to it. Other than that, very familiar, peaceful and secure place. Ideal for the ones who want to be close to Vatican City. For the ones who like to walk, it can take a bit longer to central Rome but Bus 64 can get you easily there.

Cabbie from airport had no trouble finding it. Bar and market just down the street were great, too. Ah yes..the big 'hill' issue; don't be ridiculous.
