This is a small hotel with tiny rooms - but in the true heart of Rome and incredibly charming. Overlooking the Pantheon and square with fountain and cafés - it is a wonder of a location. The staff are nice, and this time breakfast was very adequate at the near-by café. This is a true Roman experience! I will go again

The single room shower was ludicrously too small even for me and I am not a big person. I was obliged to upgrade to a double which although still small was somewhat larger. I resented having to pay for wifi (10 Euros for 24 hours) when all the hotels in Spain can manage to provide free wifi anywhere in their hotels. That said, I found the staff friendly and helpful for the most part. And best of all both of the rooms I had had windows with views of the Piazza della Rotonda and the Pantheon which is much more than I can say for the hotel next door Albergo del Sole al Pantheon which gave me a view of the breakfast patio floor for a rate that was more than twice that charged at the Abruzzi. The Abruzzi is a modest but perfectly adequate old fashioned Italian hotel. It reminded me of places I stayed in when I traveled there in the 70's and 80's. The only thing that has changed are the rates. One last thing about the Abruzzi, there is a tiny elevator which doesn't come all the way down to the lobby so you are obliged to carry any bags up one floor before you can use it.

The Abruzzi is a gem of a traditional Rome albergo. Ok the rooms are small but when you wake up in the morning, open your window and see the Pantheon right in front of you....just brilliant, a location that would be tough to beat (the "trade off"? - it is a bit noisy at night). The staff, particularly Simone, were excellent. I am learning Italian and they were very helpful and I managed to have some real conversations. Planning more trips to Rome and view the Abruzzi as my new base!!

A one night stay right beside the Pantheon, view from pour bedroom on the 3rd floor was magic. Very central for walking around Rome, within 15 30 mins of a lot of the 'sights'. Breakfast is taken across the piazza in a restaurant, and was good. Shower was in a bath, and shower room a bit cramped but fine for a one night stopover. At check out however their credit card phone loink was not working and we had to pay cash which fortunately we had but it was a bit of a hassle, manager seemed unconcerned.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. You probably can't find a better location if you aim for a genuin roman experience. The staff was friendly and polite. The fact that the hotel didn't have a breakfastroom didn't matter as we were offered a nice piccola colasione at a bar at the piazza - a much better alternative. We understand that every room has a view over Pantheon which is amazing! We higly recommend this hotel.

A very good bargain for a hotel located in the middle of the Centro Storico. You are literally across the piazza from the Pantheon, about two blocks from Piazza Navona, 3 blocks from the Torre Argentina bus stop (many bus lines stop here, very convenient), and withing a 15 to 30 minute walk from the Forum, Vatican, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain among many tourist hotspots. The room was adequate in size and very clean and well cared for. Service at the front desk was competent and friendly. The hot water in the shower was rather cool in the early mornings though, so keep that in mind if you like to rise early when you are on vacation. Most of the rooms face the piazza, and while the windows are well glazed, you will get some noise even with them closed until about midnight. If you want to be near all the famous tourist sights, don't mind some noise, and a crush of touists outside your door it is perfect, and I highly recommend. I was very pleased with this hotel for a first visit to Rome, but probably would not stay here if I returned to Rome. If you want a quiet location and be surrounded by Romans, then it does not serve this purpose.

nice hotel, no lobby, good breakfast served in a cafè nearby (overlooking... the Pantheon!). Rooms overpriced but you pay for the magnificient and greatest view over the Pantheon, unforgettable and soooooooooo romantic especially when it's your first time in Rome (but be careful, one room each floor has NO view, they should be number 101-201-301-401-501 so ask when you get keys). Rooms are clean, employees are kind and smiling above Italian average.

We stayed for 3 nights in June. The location is amazing, very central to everything! The hotel staff were really helpfull and friendly. Room was a bit small but with a good size bathroom, we didn't find this a problem though as we didn't come to Rome to stay in the hotel all day! Our aircon leaked water when turned on, luckily it wasn't too hot during our stay. Be warned that breakfast is not in the hotel but across the square in a cafe. The service there is fine although we didn't find them too friendly. The only let down was the smell of stale fags on the stairs. Overall a nice hotel and a great location!

I am a frequent traveller to Rome and have stayed at many different and excellent hotels, but the Abruzzi is my favorite due to its perfect location in front of the Pantheon. Few pleasures can match that of waking up with a view of the Pantheon and taking the short stroll across the piazza for breakfast at the Rienzi. Although the rooms are quite small, they are adequate. Will stay there again.

Good location but dont rent a car! There are not any parkings round there! They started some repears with a lot of sound at 7 am. Terrible! And everything is small! Stairs so narrow it is problem to pull a suitcase. There are no reception - at all. No halls. In the room you can just stay or lie on the bed. No space for second suitcase.

Hotel Abruzzi is fantastic for it's location - right outside the Pantheon. I had a room that overlooked the Piazza - absolutely gorgeous. Drawbacks with this property include: 1. The rooms are quite small but expected considering the location 2. The elevator starts on level 1, so you have to try and navigate your luggage up two flights of stairs 3. Although my room overlooked the Pantheon, I could not get the main window open, so had to enjoy the view from my bathroom Overall, a fantastic hotel for exploring room due to it's location.

An absolute gem of a hotel. We opended our windows to look out at the Pantheon, lit up on a summer night, and the busy Piazza below buzzing with people. The location of this hotel is amazing...everything is within easy (and wonderfully inspiring) walking distance. THere are beautiful restaurants in the immediate area (Maccheroni - is a must!). Only ther Vatican city is too far to walk though this depends on whether you like walking? The room itself was clean and tidy and the service was very efficient. It wasn't the biggest of rooms but perfectly adaquate for a three night stay. THe Bathroom was clean and again looked out over the Pantheon, (shower only). The only criticism I have is that it is noisy. The Piazza is throbbing with tourists until one maybe two O clock, and as the air conditioning wasn't working we had to leave the window open...at first the babble of Italian voices is rather nice to fall asleep to, but on Saturday night there were several 'shouters' who kept us awake. Having said that, with the wiondows closed it was quiet enough to sleep but a bit stuffy. Breakfast was a bit poor, you have to go to a lovely cafe in the piazza (which is great) but you get one coffee and one croissant/pastry...anything else has to be paid for as extra...a juice would have been nice or maybe a free top up of coffee? I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a basic clean room in the heart of old Rome as a base to explore the Major sites.

The Abruzzi is in an excellent location, but does suffer a little because of that. Our rooms overlooked the Pantheon (which is great) but the Piazza della Rotonda has a lot of bars and cafes so it is very noisy at night and into the morning. Also the lift on starts at the 1st floor which would be a struggle if you had a lot of luggage or small children. Having said that I would certainly go back there again as the staff were helpful and the location is great and that's all I want from a hotel.

We were delighted with the hotel. It was a perfect location to end our Italian holiday on a high note. The view of the Pantheon was incredible, as if you could reach out and touch it. The location was very convenient, we walked everywhere - about half and hour (max) to the Vatican, the Coliseum and Forum and Trastevere, 10/15 minutes to the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, 5 minutes to Piazza Navona. We loved having breakfast in the piazza and enjoyed watching the activity there from our room. It was quiet at night though, with the double glazing. Easy to just walk out to eat or just wander, nice not to need any transport. The staff were very friendly, we would definitely stay there again.

Hotel Abruzzi was a great start to our trip in Rome. The location couldn't have been much better, sharing the same piazza with the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain just a few minutes walk away. The other sites of Rome were fairly close also, Abruzzi was about the same distance from the Forum and the Vatican. The room was nice, although the shower "curtain" needed some attention. Eventhough our room was overlooking the piazza, the double pane windows cut out all the noise from below and the room was nice and quiet at night or while napping during the day. We were thankful that the room was air conditioned, especially since there was a heat wave through Italy at that time. There are so many little restaurants nearby it was very hard to choose, the food is very good at all of them, but the closer to any piazza the more they charge. So if you are looking for a quiet meal, explore down a side street and try one of the places that catch your eye. We would stay here again on our next visit to Rome.

We loved staying here. The views from our room were extraordinary, and even though the piazza was noisy, we liked the experience of hearing the music and crowds. The noise ended by midnight, so we considered it part of our Roman stay. The desk attendant at Abruzzi was the most helpful man we met at any Italian stops. He also spoke perfect English, which we didn't expect but appreciated. We would stay here again in a flash. The only drawback was that when we crossed the piazza to the breakfast restaurant, we had a bad experience with the pricing. We didn't learn -- until the check arrived -- that we would be charged 4 Euros each for a cup of coffee!!! We wouldn't pay that anywhere, and felt very cheated by the restaurant. Even in Rome, that's way too expensive. The hotel might have told us that breakfast, which was included in the price, strictly followed rolls and ONE cup of coffee, and that our cash would be better spent going to another nearby, and less traveler-exploitive, cafe in the square. There was an electric kettle in the room, which was nice. And we might have even opted for the instant coffee offered there had we known about the cost at the breakfast cafe.

We stayed two nights at the Abruzzi and loved it. Our room had a view of the Pantheon. Since it was off season, we were given passes to a neighboring restaurant on the piazza in front of the Pantheon for breakfast which was a nice touch. The location is fantastic and for a three star hotel we found the price to be fine, as we found in Rome you get what you pay for. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and would absolutely stay there again.

Rooms are clean and spacious, but the staff don't speak much English and it can be a little off putting. Overall, we loved our stay. I was under the impression that all the rooms were view rooms, which is the only reason I booked the room. This is clearly not the case. I would have never spent that much money on a room in Rome had I known. I have been to several other hotels in Rome both on previous and subsequent trips and spent half as much for similar quality. It was to be a special treat for me to have a view of the pantheon for my first night in Rome, which turned out to not be the case. I was too tired from travel to fight this, which made me feel taken advantage of as a solo traveller. The breakfast voucher for the cafe' was nice, but the voucher was not good for their featured tourist breakfast, but only a croissant and one fill up of coffee. It was tasty, but stingy. Won't stay there again!

The location of the Hotel Abruzzi is amazing! Look out the window and the Pantheon is right in front of you and fills the entire view. We enjoyed our stay and the hotel was quite nice with a minibar, coffee and tea in the room, free b-fast at a cafe on the Pantheon square. A few rough edges that could be improved. There are no english channels on the TV. I find this surprising because most other Italian hotels have BBC and CNN in english. The beds were very firm (foam mattresses), but they seemed to soften a bit with use. There is a lift, but it starts on the first floor which is up a long narrow flight of stairs. A good restaurant is right by the hotel. It's called the Marcus Agrippa and has patio tables right on the square. Final note; we toured all over Rome, Florence and Venice, you will not find a hotel with this kind of view and location at this price anywhere else in these cities. If your budget can handle the rates here then you will be pleased with this hotel. You can stay here and tour all of Rome within 1 mile walk from the hotel.

Despite building refurbishment continuing this did not prevent our enjoyment of the accommodation ( other then the lift not working when we arrived!)simple but very pleasant room; small but excellent shower room.Wonderful view of the Pantheon from the window and the lovely square below- who could ask for a better location. We walked almost everywhere although it is a fair walk to St Peters. There are lots of cafes, restaurants and shops in the area and the Piazz Novona is close. I would recommend this to anyone.

I'd strongly recommend the Abruzzi for a number of reasons. The location is perfect. Our room (406) had a sensational view of the Piazza below. The price was very fair. The room was spacious with a decent sized bathroom and everything was spotlessly clean. Our room was only recently refurbished and still felt 'brand new'. We had air-con which was virtually silent. The only slight problem is that the lift only leaves from the first floor (second U.S. floor) going up.

The location of Abruzzi is the best thing about the hotel. Our room had a beautiful view of the pantheon and it was convenient to walk to all the major sites. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious, and included a refridgerated honor bar and hair dryer. The down side- the bed was very hard and somewhat uncomfortable (we were so tired it didn't matter much), no breakfast (not a problem for me), and they only take cash. This was a big deal for me- we didn't have cash and ATM machines only let you take out so much each day. I had to advance on my credit card which resulted in a $25 fee (and could have been much more). If they had only told me up front when I checked in that they did not take credit cards (I reserved the room with a credit card so I assumed that I could pay with one)it would not have been a problem. It ended up in being late getting to the train station because we had to run around and get cash to pay. I hope in the future they learn to remind guests when they check in. It was unfortunate because it tainted an otherwise nice stay.

I really enjoyed staying at the Hotel Abruzzi in November 2003. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room that I booked via this website was a single (150 euros) but they upgraded me to a double/twin at no additional charge (it was off season). For breakfast, they gave me a voucher card since the hotel does not have a restaurant and I ate across the piazza at one of the restaurants in the morning. The weather in late November was nice enough (warm enough) to sit at their outdoor tables. The breakfast was basic: Croissant, muffins, jam and butter and great Cafe Latte's but it's enough to keep you going til lunch. The Hotel is located directly on the piazza in front of the beautiful Pantheon. The square is surrounded by restaurants and shops and central to all locations. From the hotel I walked west to the Vatican or east to the Forum and Colliseum. Each took about 20 to 25 minutes but very pleasant. The Trevi fountain is 10 minutes away. The hotel room was large (it also included a fold out bed from a chair) and looked out over the piazza. The room has a double insulated window that shut out all the noise (Room 306). In comparison to other european hotels it was bright large and nicely decorated. The 2 floors below did not appear to have been updated like the third floor rooms, but they appeared to be the ones without the bathrooms ensuite. The only small issue was that the elevator was on the 1st floor, not the ground floor and I had a heavy suitcase. I would definitely stay at the hotel again on my next trip to Rome!

Location was amazing. I must have misunderstood something, because not only was there no washroom in my room. But the shared/public washroom had no shower or bath...just a toilet and a sink. I don't know if this was just my room, or the whole hotel or just the rooms on the second floor. Obviously if you are in rome for more than a day, this is a problem! So if you know that before hand, its an okay hotel, but i didnt. So i was let down for sure.

The location of this place is excellent and makes staying here worthwhile. My room (a single w/out bath) was very small, but adequate. The bed was quite firm and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served at a restaurant on the Piazza della Rotunda--you can eat at an outside table with a great view of the pantheon. Pretty nice.

I stayed in one of the first floor rooms, without bathroom. A real bargain, at only 55 euros. Welcoming staff, a large, clean room with comfortable bed, magnificent views of the Pantheon, clean bathroom down the corridor. The only disadvantage was noise, which is only to be expected really, overlooking the Pantheon, but still quite phenomenal, even with double-glazing and earplugs! Otherwise, totally recommended.

Basic but clean and friendly hotel - we didn't have an en-suite room, but there was a bathroom down the corridor with loads of hot water.Worth staying there for the location alone. Our room looked right onto the Pantheon and it was a fantastic base for exploring Rome by foot. They also do take credit cards, and breakfast at a cafe round the corner was included. We'd definately stay there again.

We love this place. It's not posh or fancy in any way but the location is one of the best in Rome. Where else can you look out the window and see the oldest intact ancient Roman building in the world. Abruzzi is a bit noisy but we stay there every time we're in Rome!

You could hardly beat the location and the surrounding atmosphere. The rooms were very small (Even for europian standards)but they were very clean. Some of the rooms on the lower floors did seem a little noisy and didn't have air-conditioning.

Only stayed 1 night. Had booked a single room with view of Pantheon. Room turned out to overlook dingy alleyway instead -received a discount as they could not offer me any other room. Great location. Bathroom and washing facilities not particularly sterile but OK. Average breakfast.

The only complaint would be that the noise level was very loud. However, I know that the Abruzzi is in the process of remodeling and adding air conditioning to the rooms. I was on the first floor, which hadn't been remodeled yet. Therefore, I had to keep the window open to get any air. If I could have closed the window to sleep, then everything would have been perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about Rome and all it has to offer. I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends.

The hotel has an awesome location overlooking the Pantheon and the view from our room was superb! The staff was very friendly and professional. Because the rooms opened out onto the piazza the noise level was quite loud at night - but we found it to be soothing white-noise and had no problem getting to sleep with the windows wide open. There was AC so we could have closed the windows and turned it on if the noise was a factor - but it wasn't and we didn't want to shut out the atmosphere of the happy buzz. The hotel is very basic with a great location and a friendly staff. Although the room appeared to be clean, when I looked under the bed because I had dropped something, it was a bit dusty. A very small negative in an otherwise great stay!

The staff was all very nice and helpful. The location was amazing, walking distance from everything in the city, with a central destination right out the window. The hall shower was interesting, as it just hung in the center of the bathroom between the toilet and the sink, but the water pressure was so powerful, it made for the best shower on my trip. The noise outside the window was loud, as people gathered in the square until 3am, but there were some reasonable sound proof windows, though I didn't use them, as the commotion outside helped put me to sleep. I only feel bad that I stayed out till 4am on my last night, and the nice guy at the door had to wait up for me, though they say there's no curfew so there was no hard time about it either.

We were there during the heat wave, so it's hard to be objective about the noise. We had to keep the windows open and sometimes even the door, to get a breeze through the room. The housekeeping could have been better...although the person on duty our last day did a much better job. Still, the floors were filthy, especially in the bathrooms. I don't believe the bathroom floors were cleaned in the whole 5 days we were there. The people at the front desk were friendly and helpful, but we were never able to get any phone service to one of our rooms, and the two short calls we did make were outrageously expensive. While it was a good experience being close to the center of everything, and a treat to see the Pantheon out the window, we would probably choose a place with air conditioning in the future.

Fantastic location. Quite OK rooms. No public areas in hotel, hotel under reconstruction (same price). No iron board or similar when asked for. Last day of our stay, the breakfast place opened later than normal 7.00. Reception told us to eat next door and we would be refunded. We did, but we never got refunded (14 EURO) because "we have no cash"!!! In general: a hotel that could try at least a little bit harder to show that they are in the service business. Without the hotel's location their service level would not even be enough for 50 EURO per room.
