Very good hotel: clean and comfortably room, good location, excellent price/quality relationship. Unfortunately, check-in stage takes a lot of time, as well as check out and any service that requires interaction with reception desk.

We couldn't have chosen a better hotel for out needs. Location was 4 stops from Vatican city 10mins 7 stops town centre 15mins on metro. Hotel staff were friendly knowledgeable and pianist played abd sang happy birthday on request what more can you ask. Grounds fab. Found drinking a bit expensive @ 9euros a glass but overall a great experience.

The hotel is realy nice & quiet, surrounded by a wonderful park. The staff is not very friendly at all, even it is redicilous to close the elevator during check-out-time. Resume: Price is to high, even for the silence in this loud part of the world.

Everything went great with our stay...the hotel was clean and a very nice place to stay. The breakfast was substantial. The only problem we had was that the air conditioner in one of our rooms leaked. We told the staff about the problem, but it was not fixed during our stay (3 nights).

A very enjoyable stay, picked up at the airport in style in a huge coach for 5 of us! Breakfast each morning was delicious with a wide variety of foods. Entertainment in the piano bar each night was very enjoyable. Staff all very friendly and helpful when dealing with all of our enquiries, especially the help they gave us in hiring a wheelchair. A lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings, with easy access to the Vatican and other Rome tourist spots by the metro system or taxi.

Lovely setting and excellent accommodation. Our only disappointment was the food. Breakfast was OK as faras hotels go, but we ate in the Bistrot on the Monday night and in the bar on Tuesday. On both occasions the food was a disappointment. We ate out the rest of the time and enjoyed excellent food at less than a third of the cost of the Bistrot.

Our stay at the Grand Palazzo Hotel Carpegna did not start well with a very rude welcome by Reception. We were told that they couldn't find our reservation then when I showed them the confirmation suddenly they could find it. Then we were told that only one of the two rooms we'd booked were ready so we said we'd leave all the luggage in that one room. The Receptionist then disappeared for several minutes with no explanation as to why and when she did finally come back she said that neither room was ready. She was just so rude and off-hand throughout this whole time. We decided to leave our luggage at the hotel and go out for the afternoon. Expecting that St. Peter's was just under 2 miles away (based on info on the website) we decided to take a walk there as it was a nice day. It should've only taken 40-45min at a leisurely pace if it had indeed only been 2 miles but 80 minutes later we arrived at St. Peter's. We had definitely not taken a wrong turn as the route to St. Peter's is incredibly straightforward. When we got back to the hotel early evening to check in there were different staff on Reception who were a little more welcoming (though not much). However, they had allocated rooms to my husband and I on completely the other side of the hotel to my parents. We made the reservation together and requested rooms nearby each other. They did not want to change the allocations until we asked to see the manager then suddenly they could put us in rooms on the same floor. Everything was ok until breakfast the following morning. The hotel states that they serve breakfast from 7-10am. We went down at 9.40am but at 10.00am when my father tried to get some milk for the tea they told him that breakfast was finished. He said that he only wanted some milk for tea but they just repeated that breakfast was finished. Now I'm sorry but in my opinion if you say that breakfast is served until 10.00am then you should give guests until 10.15am in order to actually eat

Good Hotel. Very nice and impressive. Two insignificant problems: 1.Subway works until 21:00.Later, it is necessary to reach by a bus MA1. But he is sometimes loaded, and he reaches the hotel within half an hour (opposite 15-18 minutes in the subway). 2. They don't serve a coffeepot or kettle for the tea on the tables in breakfast time. Does this is a little complicate the process. You have to approach all the time to the machine in order to take more a portion. Moreover this is an excellent hotel.

On arrival it took some time to get our key. Once in the room we hadn't even opened the cases when we heard this crashing from the floor above. On going to the front desk we discovered that they were renovating the second floor (apparently they were knocking down walls). We request to be assigned to another room and were offered one on the other side of the hotel in the loft space. It didn't even have a window-just a sky light. We then went to the desk and informed them that this was unacceptable and my wife requested to speak to a manager. Two of the clerks started arguing between one another in Italian, oblivious that may wife is Italian, basically blaming each other. Then Vito, one of the clerks went, we guess to get a manager, and came back and just shrugged his shoulders. We were then offered another room and as soon as we walked in it smelled like a chip shop. It turned out that the kitchen was just outside the window. Since this trip was supposed to be my wife's 65th birthday present she was so upset and tired from the journey that she burst into tears. Thankfully the porter, Francesco, assured us that he would see what he could do and finally took us to a room that was relatively quiet. We realize that the price we paid was not going to get us a suite in a 4 star hotel but the room was quite small with a small television 8 feet up the wall, no radio, alarm or anything. When you took a shower in the small shower the bedroom was in danger of flooding since the floor drain stood proud of the floor. The building was grand but the room disappointing considering the rating and customer service at the front desk upon arrival disappointing. Thank goodness for Francesco.

After staying at the hotel the same time last year when there was no hot water The improvement in the hotel is tremendous the whole place was cleaner the staff were friendlier and the room was a lot cleaner The one thing that was not as good as last year was the meal we had on Christmas night and the price had gone up..!! All I could ask for in a hotel. 100 Mts. off the road, down a tree lined avenue set in parkland. Within 300 Mts. of a modern metro station and bus service. You will need the bus service as the metro stopped at about 9:30. The staff in the hotel were helpful and explained all the various options for public transport as well as assisting in getting taxies. Breakfast was large filling and adequate . Some good reasonable restaurants close to hotel used mainly by locals. Would we stay there again definitely especially with that view in the morning overlooking the park.

The rooms are decored in a contemporary minimalist style - clean and simple. Excellent. Very close to Metro! One male staff at counter was near incompetence. Every question I asked him he had to ask another staff for help or answer. Breakfast buffet was horrifying --- croissants were icy cold, fruits all came out of cans, staff stood on the side chatting loudly and endlessly. Absolutely no quality to speak of in terms of food and atmosphere. Resembles breakfasts served to tour-bus guests! Needs a lot of improvement there.

This hotel has been updated to an excellent standard keeping it traditional, but including all of the mod cons you are used to at home. The only issue we had was that each morning there was a noise which sounded like a chair being dragged across the floor above.

My family and I got very disappointed since we arrived at the Grand Hotel Palazzo Carpegna for the following reasons: 1) The rooms are very small; 2) We were located at the roof of the hotel. For 130 euros a night per room, we expected to get rooms like the ones we see in the Internet commercial. Not a luxury, but clean and comfortable; 3) The shower's tiles were covered by mildew and the drainers were full of hair. The division between the shower area and the bathroom floor was about 4 inches high. The shower area was about 2 by 2 feet, so the water started running out of the shower 5 minutes after and started taking a shower. I had to shut down the water as quick as I could to remove the previous guesses hair and dry-up the floor with a tower, 4) the only TV programs we could see were in Italian, 5) Just three numbers could be selected for the safety box to leave the euros and passports at the hotel. 6) We got not windows but skylights. Except by the front desk employees not body else in the hotel speak or understand English. 7) The hotel restaurant serves the same thing for breakfast everyday. The hotel is big and looks beautiful by the outside and by the reception area, but it needs to improve many things to offer its service internationally. Diana

From the Venere internet site details, the hotel was expected to be of historical old style which was not the case, and the hotel in general was not in very good condition. Very little facilities within the hotel especially for its fairly remoteness and out of town positioning. Lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms.

The Hotel was in beautiful grounds and was itself very picturesque. It was only a five minute walk from the Metro, so getting into Rome was no problem at all. The Hotel appears to be more for the group or conference meetings. It has large dining areas and the atmosphere is not as warm as it could be. However the bar area is friendly and the room are clean and comfortable. Over all a good stay, I would go again.

Für ein "Grand Hotel" ein sehr gewöhnungsbedürftiger Service(Ausnahme Restaurant). Zuerst wollte man uns ein Dachzimmer mit Jugendherbergscharakter geben, dann ein Behindertenzimmer. The Carpegna was nice to stay during our visit to Roma. I guess that I was hoping that it would be closer to the Ancient city, but it's location was close enough that it was only a 10 min metro to the Spagna steps (indication). I was reather impressed by the service, as the receptionists were very willingly helpful and patient was our 101 questions. The rooms were nice, clean and spacious. I would recommend this hotel to for anyone looking to receive the best service for the bang of the buck.....check it out for yourself. It was appearant to me once we got to Roma, that Carpegna also has other chains in the Ancient city, but I don't know how it/they match up with this one.

Wires hanging out of wall in hallways, however the worst experience was in the dining area: It was very chilly in the morning, had to eat with jackets on and the food was undesireably cold. Had chipped and entirely cracked cups removed from tables. Otherwise excellant variety and good tasting. Veronica at reception is worth her weight in gold. The rest of staff was just a job for them. I would come back just because you have her as your employee. She made all of the less desireables fae away.

The only reason I stayed here was because I had to be at the airport the next day at 7:00 AM. It was a fiasco...I did not receive a wake-up call, no one came to help me with my bags. The location was great for us. We were driving into the Rome area and found this location to be convenient for a car. The subway was very close to the hotel which gave us easy access to all areas of Rome. Hotel personnel were friendly and helpful. I would recommend it.

The most disapponiting thing was the room, especially the quality of the beds, we didn,t have hot water in the bathroom, and also at the reception they were not able to call a taxi. All together I think the service of the hotel doesn,t reflect to a 3 star hotel quality service.

Besides the fact we could not do the check-in when we arrived (11:30 am), we are pleased with our stay at the hotel.

The personel at the reception desk was not overly helpful or polite. The hotel itself is located in a quite (for Rome's standards) area of the city. Connection to public transportation is quite good (subway+bus can be reached with a short walk). Breakfast service was OK.

We found the hotel to be wonderful -- even nicer than described in the information in the website. A dinner (beef) in the dining room was rated by one of us as the best meal she had in our 12 day stay in Italy. Buffet breakfast was excellent. Highly recommend this property -- truly a first-class hotel. Grounds were beautiful. Subway system a short walk from hotel. Quiet location. What a great find!

There was no hot water in the rooms! Transportation in Rome is expensive but, despite this hotel's location outside the city center, the price of the stay is still inexpensive enough to justify the cost of transportation, if you have the time.

The room price was fair, the Bistro food & wine was excellent, though a bit expensive, the bar prices were over the top.Only a short walk from the Metro, the City was easily accessible. The hotel being set away from congested roads, was a very pleasant retreat.

Quite Hotel as requested. Employee strike on arrival! Touristic information quite poor (sent to Via Appia Nueva instead of Via Appia Antica: result :half a day lost to reach Domitilia Catacombes, extra costs [taxi] supported to reach our destination.Only saturday to sunday night noisy as above host noisy with late arrival. For the rest : OK. Central situation, quite and comfortable.

our first impression of the hotel was very good, the hotel itself being gorgeous. however, it took us 30 mins to check in and were basically ignored by the lady at reception... she was easily distracted. the rest of the staff were excellent... especially the bar staff, they were very helpful. the hotel itself was beautiful and we would certainly visit again.

Credit card info we entered during online reservation via Venere.com was not enough: when we came to the reception we were asked for a credit card as a deposit. But we didn't have any so they took one night rate. And that's it :) 10 mins from an undeground station by feet. If we go to Rome once again, we'll stay in Domus Mariae.

Receptionists with the exception of two were unhelpful and unpleasant. We found the staff unfriendly. Location too far from city etc.and had quite long journeys by bus or metro to hotel. The noise level was unbelievable specially very early in the morning. There was work being done but I don't think this was the reason for the noise. Feel that all staff should have PR training. Most disappointed with all staff as we understood that Italians were friendly. Maybe they should come to Ireland to learn the word "hospitality"!

Good Value Hotel, albeit a 12-15 Euro Taxi ride from the centre [Piazza Venezia] Fourth Floor Bedrooms a bit sparsely decorated, with no window / view. No room service to speak of, however would consider using this Hotel again.

The hotel has a lot of potential - it is historic and somewhat charming - the building is excellent however from a tourist perspective, which most people that are ataying in a hotel are, it is very poor. The staff seems to forget that the sights of Rome are the main attraction and my family felt we were more of a disruption to them - Why not hand out a list of buss and subway # to the various attractions - the staff seemed irratated that they had to explain - we figured it out on our own but lots of lost time - we stayed at 6 hotels in italy - this was the nicest building and the poorest staff.

i didn´t know, near witch metro-station the hotel lies, and so i went out from the metro too early (2 stations!!). in none rome-maps i couldn´t find the exact position of the hotel, because the maps end behind the vatican!

This hotel is a great buy. It is newly renovated, so everything is modern and clean. It is not located in the center of town, but the subway stop is only a 5 minute walk. Walking to the Vatican takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, so the subway is recommended. The complimentary breakfast was not as advertised. There were no eggs, sausage, etc., only a continental breakfast. It was still good, but we were a little disappointed that it was not as advertised. The hotel staff was knowledgable and friendly. All spoke enough English to communicate well. Overall, I would rate Domus Mariae as excellent. We plan to stay there again next time we go to Rome.

Very nice stay - However the sign board for the hotel needs to be more prominant on the road. This would make it easier to spot. Hotels tour company NOT RECOMMENDED, had to wait over 30mins on the main road for collection. On the return the driver tried to drop us a mile and half away from the hotel.

The hotel was within easy walking distance from the metro. The room was simple but very clean and the breakfasts very good. This is a conference hotel and so there is a good atmosphere at breakfast with plenty of people around. We found a nice tratoria close by, the SORA PIA, near McDonalds. You can walk to the Vatican museum in about 40 minutes or catch the bus (one euro). Although we didn't find many facilities in the hotel (pool, gym etc), we were out and about most of the time and it didn't matter. In comparison with other hotels, I thought this was good value, although not up to a UK 4* rating.

The hotel is located in a nice parc area. Although the Via Aurelia is a main street, the traffic noise is quite low. Walking distance to the Metro station "Cornelia" is between 5 and ten minutes. We found that very useful. We had some problems during check-in and the porters were not very helpful. On complaint the reaction of the manager was quick and obliging. Nice stay in total.

I found the hotel as a very nice and preserved old building, located within a nice and quit green area, close to underground (Cornelia -Line A). I've seen better breakfasts. It's not close to main monuments and other places to see, so you must always go by car, bus or metro. If you do not need to come often to your room, if you want to leave hotel in the morning and come back in the evening, yes I would recomend this hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel a young lady tended to us but never welcomed us or smiled! At first she didn't acknowledge the fact that we were at the counter needing help. As a matter of fact, she was abrupt and to the point. I was surprised Italians would be this way. This is my second trip to Italy and most Italians show friendliness and warmth when they greet you. Also, they never told us about the complimentary continental breakfast in the dining room, we stumbled on it ourselves.

A beautiful building in an amazing setting that is 10 minutes by Metro to the town centre. The rooms are good but basic, not what I had expected from a 4 star hotel, very much the sort of room you would get at a business conference centre which I understand is the market this hotel is now going for. This is not a luxurious 4 star hotel, but is fantastic value for money.
