The bed was too narrow and sliding down on the other side, so that I was afraid of falling on the floor and slept badly because of that.

I love the Santa Chiara. I have stayed in Roma many times, and it was wonderful to be right next to the Pantheon and the church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (don't miss it..) I will definitely stay at the Santa Chiara again.

We had 5 days in Rome and booked this hotel as a follow up to a cruise. The location is fantasitic, literally right next to the Pantheon-the area has limited car access which is heaven as it keeps the noise and dust down. Our room was quiet, the bedding wonderful, the AC perfect, the breakfast great, and the staff extremely helpful. Having 5 days, we compared this location with others and found it really great for access to all the sites plus the reduced noise factor was a major importance. Elevators are small, but so what - we stayed on the 4th floor which we hiked to but we like any exercise. Our room opened up to small interior courtyard, some English channels on TV, and the sofa bed (triple room) worked well for our 16 year old.

I highly recommend this hotel as it is well located and the staff has been extremely helpful with everything. The room was a little bit towards the small size (compared to the US hotel rooms but ok for Europe standards). The breakfast was really good and overall my stay in Rome was a nice experience.

Perfect location directly on a quiet side street behind the Pantheon; perfect for an evening passegiata! Room modern and clean and must have been the quietest in Rome. Slept with the windows open and only heard seagulls. I specifically asked for a quiet room and was allocated one overlooking a pretty courtyard.Reception staff polite and helpful making bookings with a taxi strike in full swing. It wasn't the cheapest but Can't wait to return.

Nice central place to stay at the Pantheon - walkable to all sites in ancient Rome. Taxi line and artisanal gelato around the corner at Pantheon entrance. Customers are a mix of Italian businessman and American/other tourists. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Wifi did not work with my Android phone.

Santa Chiara has the most incredible central location, literally around the corner from the Pantheon and walking distance to Forum, Coliseum, Piazza Navona, Trajan's Column, you name it. You can even hoof it to the Vatican if you're up for a longer walk. The hotel is charming, full of amenities, rooms are large by Italian standards, the staff is courteous and helpful (and speak English, generally). They gave us the best recommendations for non-touristy nearby restaurants that were fun, lively, and reasonably priced. And the breakfast buffet is to die for. Can't say enough about this hotel -- book early, book often!

We had a great time at Hotel Santa Chiara. The concierge was excellent!! She helped us find our way and navigate ticket information for many attractions and made different suggestions in terms of public transportation getting to a concert that was a bit outside of the city. She also gave us good information about the safety of certain areas at night. The staff was very helpful - getting taxis, checking in and out etc.. I was traveling with 2 sisters and our triple room was very comfortable for all three of us. The room was right over the intersection of two streets so there was a bit of street noise. Can't beat the location, we felt like we saw a lot of sites before we even officially checked in!. The breakfast offered by the hotel was good.

Visting the Santa Chiara for a 3 night stay with 3 friends. What a perfect stay! Our quad room was clean and spacious. We hade requested four 'real' single beds (not pullouts etc.) and that is what we had. The rooms were cleaned daily and the bedlinen was beautifully crisp/ towels gorgeously soft. I was concerned by some reviews about the staff being unfriendly - not at all, they were polite and helpful and gave every assistance we asked for. The breakfast was appetizing, fresh and varied with more than enough choice for everyone of any age(the chocolate croissants were a particular hit!) The main selling point of this hotel is however its location. Not only is the Pantheon literally in the street behind the hotel ,but also ALL the major historical sights are within walking distance. A perfect base for a perfect stay!

Santa Chiara was in the perfect location. We lived in Rome many years ago and we were returning for a visit. This hotel is not your typical tourist-y type. Many guests were professional Italians on business and they know the best places to stay without all the unnecessary bells and whistles. Breakfast was perfect as well as our corner room, #103. The staff went out of their way to mail our videocamera to us in the USA that we had left in our hotel room. Santa Chiara is clean, quiet and very comfortable. The staff are very accommodating and kind. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Rome!

Couldn't have asked for a better stay at the Hotel Santa Chiara. Absolutely as promised, and I have no negatives to list. Everything was great. The breakfast was great - hard-boiled eggs, fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, yogurts, apples, oranges, bananas, breads, croissants, cereals, teas/coffee. The staff was incredibly helpful to me, this truly was the best hotel I've stayed in, in Rome, after traveling there 3 times. Was a bit over the price range I wanted to pay, but really, the experience made up for it. Wonderful hotel!

I traveled to Italy with my parents (mid-70s) and my sister (early 50s) over Thanksgiving (2008) We were only at the Santa Chiara for one night but we felt it was a very elegant hotel. It's about a block behind the Pantheon. The rooms were spacious and the towels were fluffy. Our rooms were up on the fourth floor so they were away from the din of the street. We had to leave VERY early in the morning so I don't know what the breakfast was like. I would return to the Santa Chiara on a future visit.

The hotel is in a great location. Rooms are good and clean, but the whole experience is spoiled by the lack of friendliness. The front desk staff are polite, but not welcoming. The breakfast staff don't speak or smile at all!! Breafast is repetative and coffee awful. The only friendly person, who was great, was the guy who helped take the luggage out. I think the owner was there one day and he looked really stern with the staff, so they don't look a happy lot - the lack of friendliness spoils the exerience. With a different attitude this could be a great hotel

The wall of the bath leaked water, so you had better get over. I think that you had better clean the porch of the room a little more. The floor of the porch in particular. However, because a porch stuck to the room, a view was good, and the feeling was good.

While the hotel is in a very desirable area, for the price of the room I would have expected the furnishings to be that of a 1950's United States motel room. The linens were good quality but very plain. The noise level was incredible. They need to invest in sound proof windowss as have the other nicer hotels, like the Lacarno, that I have stayed at in Rome.

The Santa Chiara is one of Rome's best hotels. Its location alone would commend it and the service it offers is superb; the manner of the front desk is a bit cool, the elevator is slow (but it is installed in a very old building), and the breakfast fare is perhaps a bit too Teutonic. These quibbles nothwithstanding, I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Rome now, and over the last thirty years or so I have stayed in at least fifteen or so hotels there, including the Hassler. I recommend the Santa Chiara without reservation!

This place was so so. The furniture in the room was from circa 1970, but the bathroom had been upgraded. We have been to Rome about 2 dozen times. This is one of the best bargains that we've encountered. We were traveling with a friend whose room was very quiet, but ours was not. This is typical of hotels in Rome especially. You may want to request a "quiet room" when you register. Our only real issue was that there are no "no smoking" rooms. Our room did not smell of smoke, but we would prefer a non smoking room.

Having stayed at Santa Chiara before, I was expecting the same quality service and similar type of room. Regarding the service: the staff is the most unwelcoming, unfriendly and non communicative hotel staff I have ever encountered (in my many, many years of business and pleasure traveling). They appear to be unhappy and management should consider advising them that the hotel's reputation is build (in part, but a big part)on the servicing by their staff. Examples: At registration, the only thing said to us was 'your name and your passports' - not even a please nor hello nor welcome to the Santa Chiara; at breakfast - the staff passed without even a hello; and in the reception area and other areas of the hotel - if you did not say hello first, no one did (however, I will say the bellmen were nice). Regarding the room, it was clean but very, very old. The carpet needs updating and the shower leaked most of the water onto the floor each time we showered. However, the beds were comfortable and clean, and the room was located in a very quiet area of the hotel. The staff issue was so terrible, it really made the stay at the hotel unpleasant.

temperature in my room (in january) was too high (tropical) and impossible (for me) to regulate. Nobody of the staff proposed any useful kind of solution to the problem. The "single" room (n.307) was very very tiny even for a single.

Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral. Es ist möglich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten in wenigen Minuten zu Fuss zu erreichen. Die Zimmer auf der Innenseite (Richtung Hof) sind sehr ruhig.

While location is the outstanding virtue of this hotel, the good housekeeping (fresh sheets daily!), helpful staff, generous breakfast, and excellent plumbing combined to turn an excellent choice into an outstanding one. I know Rome very well, having lived there for several years in the 60s and 70s, and this hotel is already my top recommendation for family and friends. In the heart of the medieval city there will always be late night activity, but the street outside (Via Santa Chiara) is not a gathering place, so any noise passes quickly and simply reminds you that this is an area where ordinary Romans live and relax alongside visitors like us. Albergo Santa Chiara provided the perfect base from which I could introduce my daughter to all I know and love about the city.

This is a really wonderful little hotel. (A great hotel for americans with lots of questions:). Great location - only a 5 or 6 Euro taxi ride from the train station. As others have noted, the first flight up is stairs only so those with heavy luggage may need assistance.

Excellent hotel, would definitely stay again. Location was fantastic and lack of restaurant was an excuse to explore and find one! Staff were very friendly and helpful.

A little expensive, but worth it. Very nice hotel right in the thick of things. Clean, quiet rooms just steps away from the Pantheon. Would stay here again after I save some $$$.

This was my third trip to Roma and the location of the hotel was superb-you can walk everywhere and the Pantheon is literally around the corner. The front desk welcome was not very friendly. Room had a musty smell, dated, but clean, adequate. Very quiet. Front desk staff, while not particularly friendly were very accomodating, when asked, called for reservations for dinner, car to the airport, etc. Breakfast definitely one of the best experienced on our trip. One last problem, on checkout, we were initially over-charged ($212E/night vs. $170E). Fortunately I had a copy of my email reservation and the bill was revised. Front desk said it was due to a 'problem with the computer'. Overall, I would stay again, but would make an issue over the musty smelling room. I have used venere.com for booking hotels in Europe a number of times over the last few years and it has been excellent. However, in this case I feel the reviews 'oversold' the hotel.

Excellent location for exploring Rome - everything within walking distance. Really pleased with the size of the room & bathroom, although located at the front of the hotel - not terribly noisy - a few scooters etc in the morning Would recommend

Excellent location, central to most everything. Had an inside room, no view but very quiet which was fine with us. Breakfast was better than expected. Staff friendly and not intrusive. Would stay here again.

Stayed for 5 nights in Sept 04. With the Santa Chiara it's all about location! It is right in the middle of the entire city. You can walk to pretty much everything and the piazza de pantheon is right around the corner for some late night coffee and wine. I thought the price was high for a 3 star ($210.00) But the quality was good and we had no problems. You gotta remember it is Italy so they have different standards, but i would equate this hotel to a nicer Marriott back home.

A charming hotel just a minute's walk to the Pantheon. And I even got the room with a balcony that I requested. The a/c and location make it worth the price!

I enjoyed the stay here. No signs for the bar, though. I never did find it, but in fairness I did not ask the front desk. Good choice of foods in the continental breakfast. Location is excellent. I would stay here again.

Given that room in Italy are expensive, this was probably a good value. Good staff and location with a great breakfast. rooms are small and no control of air conditioning.

The Santa Chiara is a very pleasant hotel, with a lovely lobby offering a variety of newspapers, perfectly located for touring Rome. I have stayed there perhaps 4 times and will surely return in the future. I have stayed in a triple (huge), double (fine), and single (adequate but small), but room size is not particularly important if you are touring Rome.

The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to everything. The staff were not very welcoming or helpful. Keep all valubles with you at all times. Our camera got ripped off from our room while we were at dinner. It was obviously an inside job. I would not stay here again as a result.

The location, the staff (especially the consierge), and the rooms cannot be beat in this area of Rome. The rooms were nice with above average bathrooms that were always cleaned well everyday. We would return to this hotel in a heartbeat next time we come to Rome. Everything about it was great.

Santa Chiara is a nice hotel located very conviniently near Piazza Minerva and the Pantheon. If you have a romm to the backyard as we did, it is very quiet. The price is in line with the high hotel prices in Rome
