exterior - entrance
"La locanda della compagnia" is located at the beginning of the village, and it faces a little typical square where you can find the wonderful Our Ladys Church of the 1871, and a group of characteristic towered houses of the Cinque Terre. During the last century,
in the place where the Locanda is actually located, there was the Holy Virgins Brotherhood see (called "cumpagnia", in local dialect).
Its prestige was famous in all the Cinque Terre, and the possibility to be one of it was a great ambition for every village. Afterwards, thanks to its roominess, that place was transformed in the cinema of the village and a point of meeting for the community in the 30/50s, where the typical rural parties took place.
We hope these historical notices tempt you to visit us and to be our welcome guests

Beautiful people running a nice cosy place. The room is spacious, but no services in room and a little messy. Toilet was broken but we managed to fix it. In saying that I would stay there again, lovely people make any hotel good. Breakfast is light and was a little chaotic but nice.

We were offered the apartment at the harbor and accepted, based on other readers' comments. Up a lot of steep stairs (in the building), and you have to hold down the plunger in the toilet tank to get it to fill, but once we figured that out it was fabulous. The location could not have been better or more beautiful.

This hotel is overproced and the greedy waitress in the morning is hiding breadbuns in the cupboard and she is yelling at persons that took two.. The croissants are old ones in plastic and the coffee is weak.

When we arrived in Riomaggiore, the hotel was locked and no-one was around. There was a telephone number to call if there was not an attendant. I did not have my cell phone on me. Fortunately the hotel attendant who did not speak English but was very accommodating and vivacious appeared after we were there for maybe 5-10 minutes. She showed us to a very nice apartment which was very spacious and included an outside deck. We immediately felt as though we lived there, and we were not tourists. I met another couple who stayed in an apartment closer to the marina. I would recommend this property and would stay there again. The village is magnifico!!!

We highly recommend this hotel. We were placed in a large family apartment about 100m away from the central hotel, up some stairs. Very roomy with a full kitchen had we wished to cook and great little balcony looking out over the town and sea. We loved that our neighbours were local families and we weren´t right on the main street yet no distance to walk. The only improvement I would suggest is to update the breakfast from the breadroll and cup of coffee.

The room was large and clean, with small fridge and nice bathroom. I found it a bit expensive compared to other hotels we stayed in. Breakfast was adequate, but fresh croissant would have been nicer than pre-wrapped ones. Staff were very kind and helpful.

Nice Hotel, easy to find by car. THe staff was very friendly and helpful. They went out of there way to help us with secure parking for our motorcycle. It has a pool which was great after a long hot day of riding. The hotel was alittle out of the way from the city center. It was a little further than we wanted to walk, about 20-25 minutes. Over all it was a pleasent stay.

If you are arriving by taxi from La Spezia then this hotel is an easy walk downhill from the road (Much easier than dragging your bag up from the train station). The hotel doesn't advertise a view and there certainly isn't one! The breakfast was very basic and should be improved at the price charged.

The employees were friendly and the rooms were clean except for a couple of spiders. The major problem is a very serious one- the entire hotel smelled of mildew and we could see the black spots of mold all over the wall of our bedroom and even though they had painted over the mildew with a design, its presence was evident visually and by the strong odor. We opened the window to get in some fresh air but I would not recommend this place to anyone as it is now.

Actually the photo on the web does a disservice to our actual accommodations. We had a wonderful apartment up on the hill-higher up than I'd initially planned. Be prepared to hike, but what a wonderful place to sleep and view this beautiful village. Franca was most welcoming, but does not speak much English. Other staffers are a bit better. The apt was immaculate, and good cleaning services as well. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Clean place, friendly people, good location. But the breakfast was totally inadequate: packaged and sale rolls, nothing more, no juice even. The worst breakfast in a dozen Italian hotels. Also, note that Riomaggiore is very damp because of the ocean. The air conditioner here is very poor, so nothing dried over a 36-hour period. No windows in this placed that open. Overall good, but the poor breakfast and dampness lower its rating.

The reception was hard to locate and the apartment was not in the building indicated. We caught the train and it was quite a hike, once in Riamaggiore the journey became steeper to the address given then our apartment was further uphill. Luckily we were travelling with our son and partner who helped with our bags. We didn't know we were to be accomodated in a self contained apartment which really suited us, it was a quirky place but had a spectacular view over the town to the sea, wonderful with a wine in the evening. The bathroom was tiny and the shower like no other we had seen, we all found it difficult to use. Despite my comments we all loved the location, the apartment was big enough for us all and we felt very much at home more than in a room each. We didn't mind the extra distance from the village as we were amongst the locals and didn't feel like tourists

Really loved this and this hotel- it's the 3rd I have tried in Riomaggiore and by far the best. They are all a bit dark and musty but that is due to the buildings being built into the cliffs. Really welcome and friendly place with a big room in a great location on the main street. Riomaggiore is my favourite in Cinque Terra. Breakfast was pretty lousy though with cold coffee and packet pastries (common in Italy).

We stayed in Riomaggiore for 2 nights. This is a hilly place, and it's a good walk up the hill to the hotel from the train station. However, Riomaggiore and the Amalfi coast would not the easiest place to get around in if you had problems with mobility. The rooms are small, but that's the way it is here, and we knew what to expect. We were made to feel welcome, and would definitely look to stay here if we return to Riomaggiore.

The Hotel Locanda della Campagnia respresented itself very accurately on Venere.com with the exception that the attached apartments (part of the property), which we stayed in, did not have air conditioning. The site lead us to believe that every room was equipt with AC. We were there 4 nights and did not receive fresh towels or any freshening of rooms at all. The women who run the hotel are very nice and helped us with one person in our party who became very ill. That person had to leave one night early and was not charged for the fourth night.

This was our first time in the Cinque Terre. The welcoming staff at the Locanda dalla Compagnia was very nice. She told us that they did not have a room with a view but offered an apt. in the marina. This would have been good for a younger couple with less luggage than we had since it required going down and up some very narrow steps. We actually did not see the apt. since there was a problem obtaining the key. But by then we realized we would stay in the main hotel since we would not have to negotiate the stairs. My only complaint was that our only window looked out onto a stone wall about 4 feet from the window. If I returned I would insist on a room with a window that looked out to the street.

The hotel is situated at the top of the main street. The walk from the station to the hotel is quite a strenuos one ,particularly when dragging moderately weighted suit cases. However the rooms of the hotel are more or less at ground level.Bedroom and bathroom very clean and tidy.We found the breakfast from what we as Australians would be used to as on the poor side , no cereal or fresh croissants, coffee average. Our bedroom was near the front of the hotel and subject to noisy chatter difficult if you were looking for a late afternoon nap, very quiet at night.Overall however we enjoed our stay.

We had a great apartment on the water, and it was huge. Lots of space and very clean. Beds were the two singles beside each other with one sheet type deal...kinda uncomfortable but we managed. Huge room and clean. Staff speak very little english but they are very sweet. Hike up the hill for breakfast was a good workout. If you stay in apartments, don't hike up the hill with bags like we did, as you'll end up walking right back down to your room.

We requested and were given a Marina apartment which was in a great location. The reception area is at the top of the village which is OK if you arrive by car however if you arrive by train the walk up the hill with luggage is tough. The apartment was well fitted out and even had a washing machine although you couldn't use it as there was no way of connecting it to the water supply. We really loved that as it has a nice balconey with a beautiful view of the harbor and the town square. We fell in love with the beautiful village. We were there is off season so in early Feb not many restaurants open. Since we had the apartment we were able to shop, which is an experience all in it's own. Loved it. This was a lovely B&B in the southernmost town of Cinque Terre. The Hotel keeper was so warm and friendly, although her English was very basic, all the necessary information was communicated. The typical breakfast fare was ok, but the hostess kept the capuccinos flowing! And it was delicious. Walls are thin, so the only noise I heard was the man next door snoring (and he indeed seemed like an exceptionally loud snorer...) but it was very quiet otherwise. Location was excellent, just a very short walk up the hill from the train station. A note about this, other reviews made it seem as if this walk was too much, and granted it's a fairly steep hill, but even with very slow steps and lots of luggage, it's less than a 10 minute walk once you get through the tunnel that leads out of the train station. The room was spacious compared to all our other rooms in italy, and it was great that we got both "traditional" bathtowels, as well as the ones that seem to be so popular in Italian hotels, which dubbed "tablecloths" Overall, very positive experience with this location, hotel, and owner/hotel keeper.

This hotel is run by three great women who work hard, keep everything clean and are very pleasant and nice to be around. If something does not go right with your room, they will try hard to fix it. The coffee in the morning was delicious, the buns were not so good. The hotel is a direct, long difficult walk up a hill. if you have lots of luggage .... good luck! However, it is also on the town bus route, so if you can find out where the bus is, catch it! The town is so small that everything is close by, including a church right next door!

The village of Rio Maggiore is incredibly beautiful and well connected by train to others Cinque Terre and La Spezia (no need to take your car !). To go to the hotel, use the elevator (service included in the Cinque terre card) : the view is extraordinary and it is less difficult to go up the hill. At the locanda there is a familly atmosphere . It is a good point in a certain way : friendly people, you can use dishes and the microwave just like at home... But it can also be negative : there is not always somebody at the reception (never at night) and it is sometimes hard to get clear information about services : was the breakfast included in the price or not ? We will never know ... The room was very confortable but noisy early in the morning. To conclude we had a very pleasant stay in this place, which is extraordinary ! And the price is good. I would recommand it !

If you arrive by car, you want to be aware that you have to park your car at the top of the town. Spaces are few to none. It's an extra 10 Euros per day for parking. Check the hotel first before hauling your luggage either down for the car park or up from the train station. Five rooms are in the hotel (upper end of town) by the reception area and others are down by the harbor and train station. Try and secure one of the rooms down by the harbor. They probably won't listen to your request but the small rooms by the reception are very dark, small and have a window that looks on a rock wall about a foot away. Very noisy when anyone is in the reception area and walls are thin enough to hear the people in the next room talking or doing anything else. Franca, one of the receptionists, does speak enough English and is pleasant. Watch out at check out, though, and have the correct change in Euros for your room. She always "does not have change" and tries to add 10 Euros per night for cleaning. Take your written confirmation with you to check out.

We didn't stay in the actual 'hotel' building but in a private space overlooking the Mediterranean and above the train station. The only complaint was being able to hear the trains. However, that was a minor, very minor aspect of a wonderful experience. The hotel staff and owner of the room in which we stayed couldn't have been nicer. Be prepared to climb a hill to the office. Riomaggiore is located on a steep hill but worth every step. Would definitely stay at Locanda again.

Our comments fall into 3 areas: 1. Location 2. Price vs Overall Quality 3. Overall experience (1.) Location: Better give the Locanda De La Compagina some thought as you consider the area. We were unable to catch the train from La Spezia to Riomaggiore because we got bounced around at the La Spezia station. We opted for a taxi. Cost: E 30. Savings on hassle---priceless. Here's why. Had we taken the train we would of had to drag or four suite cases approximately 1/4 mile horizontily through a tunnel from the train station then 1/4 mile vertically up a steep cobblestoned street. As it was, the cabby droped us off at the hotels front door. The lady who met us at the door spoke zero English. The owner, Frankina, (spelling mine) spoke some English. (2.) Price vs. Overall Quality: The room was very small with one window that opened onto a stone wall about 18" from the screen. We found the room to be clean. The walls were very thin and we could hear conversations through both walls. The adjacent buildings housed families with children and in the evening the din from general household activties was a bit much. Eventhough the management's English was sparce, we did manage to piece together any thing we needed to communicate. At the end of our stay we did take the train back to La Spezia. Management will arrange for a Lambretta truck to carry all your bags and one person in your party to the station. As you walk away and down from the hotel, you will notice a narrow road splitting off to your right. If you'll investigate this road, you'll find that it is fairly level, passes by an interesting church and ends at an elevator that opens at 8am. For the price of E1, the elevator will deposit you at the end of the tunnel a few meters from the train station. (3.) Price vs Overall Experience: A day and a half at the C. Terra (two days at the outside) is plenty of time for this destination. The area is breathtakingly beautiful and picturesque. If you are elderly, plagu

We loved the Cinque Terre! A friend had recommended your hotel, with the sea view and we also found it on Rick Steeve's recommendations. We especially liked the location after we were changed to the "sea view" location..new bathroom and spacious rooms with that great window. Rick Steeve's map had us looking on the other side of the street and up the hill..when we did find it there was a note on the door that someone would be back shortly and a phone number. The breakfast was very minimal. All in all, the location and view made it a great stay!

My husband and I were very pleased with this hotel, and the price of 80 euros per night was great. The room was very large and clean, and it was air conditioned. The hotel was in a good location on Riomaggiore, and we are very glad that we stayed in this town since the train allows for easy access to the other areas of Cinque Terre. One negative... our room was right off the lobby, and it was a little noisy. The staff spoke only a little English, but communicating still wasn't a problem. Parking was a problem on the first day, so I would suggest parking in La Spezia and taking the train to Riomaggiore.

Amazing stay. My wife and I loved the town of Riomaggiore and more importantly the warmth and kindness of Franca and Giovanna. Cinque Terre is a fabulous region, and Locanda dalla Compagnia is a simple, if not Spartan, inn where we received big hugs, wet kisses, and a simple tasty breakfast. Our room was more ike a small apartment. It was spacious , had its own cooking facilities and plenty of cookware and plates and cutlery. We were on the third floor of the building and it took about 10 seconds to run down the stairs and dive into the mediterranean! The view was spectacular from the bay windows. Riomaggiore is a fantastic place and this was excellent value for money (80 euros/night for 2). The only problems were: the hot water cylinder leaked one night and there were renovations going on next door and they started at 6am! Hosts very gracious but didn't speak any english.

Our Room was 200 feet above sea level, the climb with rollong suitcases was extreme. Older people need to be warned - its a climb! Also, the office hours are 8am-6:30pm and then it is closed, we just got there in time, and the host was impatiently wanting to go home.

Very friendly and courteous staff, clean, comfortable, modern rooms. Breakfast was simple but very convenient to have there in the morning.

I can't comment on the rooms in the hotel, as our room was actually an apartment a few blocks from the hotel. It was relatively spacious, included a small kitchenette, and quite clean. The breakfast was served in the hotel and was pretty light (bread and pastries, yogurt, coffee). I would definitely use this hotel again.

We found the staff the most friendist & helpful on our trip . We treasure the place & staff for the memories we have of Cinque Terre. Highly recommended to all as it was convenient.

We were given a small room without windos at all under the reson that the hotel was full; we did not see another turist around! The main problem was that we were told that the breakfast will be served in the central cafe in the middle of the town, which consisted of a coffe and one croisant served in a very smoky athmosphere together with all the smoking locals coming and going. We have not experience this in all our life anywhere in the world! Having cut our stay short, we were asked by the receptionist to pay 70 euro in cash and it took a very, very long time to persuade him to give us a receipt. Never again at Loccanda dalla Compagnia!!!

This was a very nice hotel - clean spacious, etc. My main problem was that no one was there to greet me when I got there so I had to go find a pay phone and call some number on the door. Then, when I locked myself out of my room (my fault i know) I was stuck outside for a few hours again until someone turned up i didnt bother calling tis time, cause you feel like your interrupting there dinner or something when you call them at home. There are certainly cheaper places around cinque terre if all you want is a basic bed - mama rosa's for instance is a hostel, which i could not find on the internet and is also in riomaggore. You might find a good deal on an apartment as well. If your travelling off season like i was, dont bother with reservations anywhere. This seems like it would be a great place for a couple to stay and dont get me wrong, this is a very nice hotel.

We arrived late and yet someone came racing out from nowhere to let us in that night. The room was right off the lobby area and the window was out on a major walk way to other residences in the area and it was noisy. We turned the airconditionaire on to try to cover the noise and to move the air around, since we couldnt' sleep with the window open. It was still a bit noisy, but I used ear plugs. I'd probably investigate staying further away from the main part of town next time.

The only problem we had was checking out. We were told there would be breakfast at 8am, and we said that was good because we had to check out at that time. The next morning, no breakfast and noone was there. I saw a number on the door outside to call, and used the phone on the desk to call someone, who told me they would be there in 10 minutes. This put us 30 minutes behind schedule and we had to drive to Milan to fly out that day. We couldn't just leave as they had requested to hold my passport until departure.

Good location, no phones in rooms and staff only available in morning & late afternoon on the premises. Room and bathroom clean and adequate. Staff friendly, room somewhat noisy, ask for one away from lobby. Price is right!
