We were in Riomaggiore for 4 days in April, and Cinqueterre Residence made our stay spectacular. The hosts were very friendly, the rooms were very nice, great breakfast. Just wonderful. A tip if you're arriving by train: be sure to ask them to arrange for your luggage to be picked up at the train station. There are about 200 steps to go up to get from the station to the hotel, and you won't want to be dragging a suitcase.

An amazing place to stay in Riomaggiore especially if you plan to do the hike where you can start it at Via Dell'amore. I can't say enough wonderful things about Davide and his family. They cater to you the minute you step on to their property with a welcoming drink and snack. The property & town is so charming you will fall in love. What a beautiful experience!

Cinqueterre Residence was a great place to stay. The family are very welcoming and do their best to help in any way. The only issue we had was the outdoor lighting. Light shone into our room until aprox 11.00-12.00pm each night and was on a mains switch so we couldn't turn it off. Apart from this, we had a very happy stay and would reccommend to others.

I was delighted with everything about the Cinqueterre Residence. Carla made me feel immediately at home. I was feeling pretty rotten when I arrived (bronchitis) and not up to the long walk down to town. Carla kindly put together a lovely snack for me from the breakfast items. The single room was very comfortable and the best designed I've seen for today's single travelers (an electrical outlet and ample shelves right by the bed for all of my electronics). The bed was very comfortable. Each room has its own separate area on the shared terrace with bushes on either side for privacy. The view of this vineyards on the opposite hill was lovely. There is a shared area with a sea view and I believe a couple of the larger rooms have sea views from their terraces. Breakfast was ample and had very nice quality ham, cheese, fruit and pastries. The smiley face in chocolate on the cappuccino was a nice touch. The free wifi worked perfectly. I liked being high up beyond the main town, which made it quiet at night. I highly recommend taking the bus up, especially with luggage. I counted 133 steps down to the main street, and that is in the upper part of town up a very steep slope. Overall, I recommend the Cinqueterre Residence highly. The only caveat is that there are quite a few stairs to either gate, so I'm not sure it would work for someone with difficulty walking.

We liked the Residence a lot. The only less positive aspect was the fact that it requires going up many stairs but hey, it's Cinque Terre (it's all but plain =D). The room was good, and the staff nice and helpful. Breakfast was good. Not amazing, although one day we got to eat strawberries planted AT the residence! We recommend it. PORTUGAL

Excellent welcome and service. Do not even try to take your bags up the stairs-take the green bus to the top where they have their own stop. A small lift is there(for the luggage only). One flight of steps down, puts you at the office where on checking in you will be provided with all of the information you need re: hiking, ferries, restaurants, etc..

Loved staying here. The location is amazing, views were spectacular. The staff were really helpful and friendly. We had a welcoming complimentary wine whilst the lady was explaining about Cinque Terre walks etc. At breakfast the man would make you whatever drink you would like (coffee, hot chocolate etc). We would recommend this place to anyone.

I stayed 2 nights and would have loved to stay longer had I known how amazing this place was. Carla was fantastic with her introduction of the area. It helped me get around much better. Breakfast wasn't included in my reservation but she nicely let me use it. Definitely a place I would recommend to everyone!

Wonderful, kind, and helpful owners (and family). Good layout with acess to tiered patios that have views of village and ocean. An excellent breakfast is included. Only drawback is the lack of soundproofing between rooms with adjoining walls, which is odd given the extensive remodelling. You can hear distinctly everything neighbors are doing from the bathroom to the bed.

Awesome location and room, slightly pricey but It was very nice. Lots of hills to walk up to get there, so pay the €1,50 to take the bus if you have any bags. Owners were very inviting and helpful with tourist attractions.

The Cinqueterre Residence is exactly what we thought it would be, classy accommodation at a reasonable rate in a spectacular location. The family owners are great. Enjoy the stairs :) Don't do the walk from Monterosso to Corniglia, it's a waste of time. Do get a Cinqueterre card for the bus and trains, and do take a ferry trip to Monterosso.

The Cinque Terre is a beautiful place to visit. I am not sure if this hotel is worth the price I paid, but if this place was open I would stay again. Do not stay here if you cannot walk some steps.

The directions on exiting riomaggiore station are unclear. I suggest that the statement regarding "2 choices" be changed to "Turn right on exit from train station, through tunnell, to green bus stop. Then you have 2 choices etc". The climb to the hotel is stiff, but we expected that. For visitors less than fully fit or carrying heavy baggage, use of the green bus would be strongly advised. Otherwise everything was excellent and the staff were lovely and exceptionally helpful. We would go there again and stay in the same hotel.

We were very pleasantly surprised with the Cinqueterre Residence - Locanda. The room we stayed in was very new, and very clean. We definitely enjoyed our stay in Riomaggiore, and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Carla, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, and her English is pretty good.

How to reach Cinqueterre Residence

By car
Use of Gps navigators is not recommended.
Get off the A12 highway at exit La Spezia and turn left in direction of La Spezia centro. A main road (tangenziale, part of the Autostrada) takes you straight into town. It ends at Viale Italia. Turn on this busy, main street in the direction of Cinque Terre or Portovenere (you will see signs). The town will be on your right and the port on your left. Keep driving with the water on your left until you are forced to take a sharp turn right. Continue in Viale Amendola, a wooded avenue, keep going left, and then turn left when you see traffic-lights. Follow the signs to Portovenere and 5Terre. In a short time, you will see the next set of traffic-lights. Stay on the right for Cinque Terre and go up a ramp-like road. From this point it is 14 km to Riomaggiore. Follow this road as it winds up over the hill and then down the other side to the Cinque Terre. Exit from this road when you see the sign to Riomaggiore. It is a very narrow road that creeps along the edge of a cliff. You drive straight on and you will see the town under you and a car-park on your right. Now the road makes a straight descent. Look on your left and after about 15 meters you will see our sign “Locanda Cinqueterre”. Here is our upper gate. Go down the steps and you will find the reception. If you are carrying heavy luggage, advise the reception and we will provide a luggage-lift to bring it down.

Parking:
If available, open reserved parking spaces are located close the hotel upper gate or in garage, not recommended for larger vehicles, by the Riomaggiore nearby parking lot. We highly recommend to reserve the car park in advance.By train
As regards directions from train station, you have two chances:
The first time, we suggest this way (easier and showing you a nice view of Riomaggiore: when you leave the train station, make a sharp right and walk past the two large murals on the stone wall. Continue bearing to the right until you see the entrance to a tunnel. Walk through the tunnel. (The tunnel is parallel to the train tracks and will take you to the main street of the village). At the end of the tunnel, you will see a street going up the hill with shops on both sides. Near the Bank (Banca Carige) you will find the stop of a green bus. The bus leaves every 20 minutes and you have to ask to the driver to stop you at the higher gate of the Cinqueterre Residence Locanda. In a few minutes you will arrive at the residence. Go downstairs and you will find the reception. If you carry heavy luggage, advice the reception and we will provide to bring them down by a goods-lift.
If you prefer to walk, it takes abt. 10 minutes. Follow the street upward until you come to a small piazza (Compagnia) with a little Church (Oratorio) and on your right is a small hotel, Locanda della Compagnia. In the corner between the Church and the Locanda della Compagnia are some stone steps. This is via De Battè. Go up the steps, following them upward as the pathway turns right and then turn right again. Continue upward, looking for house numbers on the left wall. After you pass 61 via De Battè, take the next set of steps going up to the left. Then, after you pass 67 and 67B vi De Battè, take the next set of steps going up to the left. Continue upward, bearing to the right as you go. You will see the lower gate of the Residence before you. Please note that the last green bus leaves at 7.40 p.m. from 13/09 till 10/06 and at 10.30 p.m. from 11/06 till 12/09. Due to narrow roads and stairs, too heavy or bulky baggages are not recommended in this area.
