Famous for being Napoleon's prison during the French Emperor's exile, the Elba Island is easily reachable by ferry-boat from the Tuscan city of Piombino (the ride lasts about 30 minutes). Make sure you take the ferry-boat of the Toremar company, which lands directly at the port of Rio Marina.
The closest beach is 50 meters from the Rio sul Mare Hotel and the port of Rio Marina, and if you want you can choose a different beach every day: Porticciolo, Topinetti, Cala Seregola, Frugoso are just some of the unique spots of the island, boasting wonderful colors, that come from minerals and range from dark red to sparkling silver.
Be sure to visit the old mines that made the fortune of the island in ancient days - Rio Marina features some of the oldest ones, dating back about 2000 years - and not to miss the Museum of Minerals, hosting more than 700 types of minerals.

Brilliant for the price-class. Strongly recomended. Owner of hotel speaks fluent english wich is convinient because of the total lack of english-speakers in the rest of italy :D

Hotel carinissimo a due passi dal porticciolo, da una bellissima caletta naturale e da un parcheggio gratuito... Consigliabile soprattutto perché Rio Marina é il paesino dell`Isola d`Elba più facilmente raggiungibile da Piombino... Unica curiosità: la colazione non prevede il cappuccino... é considerato un extra... non si sa perché...?!? Per il resto comunque ottimo soggiorno, consigliabile a tutti...
