Monte Kristo Hotel - Riga

The rooms are a little 'small and inconvenient if you are not a couple but just friends. Initially we were given 2 rooms with single bed (uncomfortable and narrow) and one with double bed. Having the need for three with a single bed abbimo asked to change and we were given a third large single bedroom with skylight ... but: the room was lit up at 4 am, unfortunately,

This was a twin room. / Doppelzimmer mit getrennten Betten. Electricity outage on one occasion, took a few hours to fix.

Excellent hotel, when thinking price vs. guality, only (BIG) minus was the noice coming from corridor and other rooms.

Very convenient (walking distance) to inter-city transportation at the edge of the Old Town. Superior hotel to others I've stayed at in the immediate area in terms of street, rooms, and staff.

There was some noise as our room faced the main ring road and bus station. This was not an issue for us as it was generally early mornings, when we were up anyway

Some might have an issue with the noise as some rooms face out towards the railway station and main outer 'ring' road of Riga. As we were up early each morning anyway, this was never an issue for us. A really enjoyable stay in a friendly and welcoming Hotel, great location and at an excellant price.

I've stayed at the Monte Kristo before; the receptionist remembered me. All the women were very friendly and helpful. One guy couldn't be bothered. What a sourpuss. This is an "old-fashioned" hotel, the rooms are not large (bed fills the room). The bathrooms, on the other hand, are very spacious. Nice shower, and don't you love the heated towel racks in Eastern Europe? Very good bed, very adequate breakfast with two kinds of eggs, good juices and fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toaster available, and the ubiquitous "Russian" (that's where I first had it anyway) breakfast salad with terrific tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Negatives were: while there is no smoking IN the hotel, some of the staff go outside to smoke, and they smell of smoke. And the rooms on one side have windows on a noisy street with a disco/bar and a hostel (and the inevitable smokers). I was on the other side, but party-ers were going by on that street too, just not standing and laughing and shouting at each other, like on the other side, which makes you want to open the window and throw a flower pot at them after you've put up with it for half an hour at 3 a.m. Those were pretty much the negatives. Plus I couldn't figure out how to get online in my room, even after calling down to the desk for help. There is also a computer set up in the lobby which I think guests can use. Lobby is very small. Hotel has a nice covered deck; they serve a good deal (5 Lats) business lunch. It's in the old town, but don't pay a taxi to bring you into the old town (special fee) but either take the airport bus 22 (not 22a - it stops by the Reval hotel, you want the one that goes to Stockman's, by the main train and bus stations), or have the taxi leave you off at that bus stop, which is about a 1 minute walk to the hotel back/side entrance. You can see the hotel sign on the side of the building (near the top) from the bus stop. The buses start running at 5:47 a.m. I made a 7:35 flight.

I am sorry to say that I did not have a nice stay at Monte Cristo. I will not stay there again and I will not recommend it to anyone. We were placed in room number 11 - with no possibility to change. The room was very warm. We could not open the curtains or windows without being face to face with people sitting on the out door restaurant. We tried to have a small opening of the window as it got extremely warm and impossible to sleep. We then got a lot of mosquitoes in the room and lots of bites. The noice was also terrible. The staff was not at all helpful and not very pleasant - apart from one guy that had his first day at work and was very service minded. The breakfast was not good either. Warm juices and small, crowded rooms. I have always been pleased with both service and stay at other hotels, I am so sorry to say that this time I was not.

Good central location close to bus and train stations and bus 22 stop. In leafy square in old city.

The Hotel was very central within easy walk of the main attractions and close to the bus and rail stations. It was also close to the market area. It is well appointed, very warm and the staff were very helpfull.

this hotel is well located in a quiet small street in the old town. the staff is very friendly and helpfull. i have booked for 2 people, but the space of the room would have been far to small for a double, because i was alone i did not complain, maybe they knew i was coming alone. if i would book there again a double, i would ask them for a bigger room.

Excellent hotel, even better location and excellent prices. There were 4 adults in our party who were aiming to enjoy themselves but not a stag party. I would recommend this hotel and i would take my family without hesitation.

Hotel is in a great part of town, near bars, but not too loud. In fact, noise was not a problem. Breakfast was great. The staff was helpful, but the language was slightly a barrier. A couple times, we had questions and the staff didn’t quite understand our English or know how to respond appropriately. The price was good for the location. We didn’t see a lot of hotels in Old Town Riga. We were on the 5th floor and I don’t think there was an elevator. Since we are young, this is no problem, but for older travelers or those with children, it would have been a pain. Perhaps that is why they put us on the 5th floor, cause of our ability to climb. Maybe that’s a good thing. Either way, we recommend Hotel Mote Kristo!!!

Sconsigliatissimo in estate, le camere sono caldissime e soffocanti. Pessima la prima colazione. Sicuramente non ci torno.

The Old Town is tiny and this hotel has an amazing location for a fantastic price. The employees were so friendly and helpful and I would recommend this to anyone visiting Riga.

Very nice hotel at an affordable price. Pleasant style with an excellent bar cellar, the hotel is at the hearth of Riga and wel served by the public transport. Clean and quite, the room was rather small. No elevator.
