The hotel Posta is housed in the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, a Medieval building that has been a hotel for over five centuries. In 1200, it was the residence of the Capitano del Popolo, in 1400 the residence of Sigismondo d'Este; it became an inn called Locanda del Cappello Rosso in 1515.

The property boasts comfortable and elegant guestrooms, functional banqueting, meeting and conference rooms, a fitness room and a welcoming bar.

The Posta was a wee gem, beautifully located next to a the square with very nicely appointed individual rooms of a high standard. Reggio Emilia was a real find and we went back there for the last two nights of our holiday. The value for money was excellent and as we only wanted bed and breakfast the lack of dinner was not an incumberance and encouraged us to go out to explore the local restaurants. There was some noise from a concert held in the square in the evening but we didn't mind that - during the day the square is also a market once a week and we found many bargains! The main difficulty is finding the hotel by car - currently there are a number of roadworks that make the route a little problematic and difficult to figure out - but once you see the white hotel road signs it's quite easy!
