A wonderful surprise. I have to admit that the Penta was booked primarily because it offered the best deal on the particular date we wanted, but what a happy accident. Totally different to the usual chain hotel offering with very helpful and welcoming staff, spacious rooms, a fantastic breakfast and a bar you may actually choose to spend time in rather than the normal soulless corporate space. The hotel is right in the centre of Reading with theatre, bars, restaurants and shops all within walking distance. Don't be put off by the somewhat 'eastern bloc' exterior because inside is a revelation. We marked the hotel down slightly for noise but this was only because there was a music and arts festival at the hotel that weekend but to be fair, as guests, we were offered free access to the whole event. I understand Penta is a German chain and Reading appears to be their only UK property - a shame as we would love to visit UK cities and stay at other Penta hotels.

This hotel is in a class of its own. It has taken on a contemporary feeling for todays traveller. I.T facilities, to the point of being able to use the TV as monitor, ie bring your own movies lol. The staff are friendly and as helpful as can be. The Breakfast buffet was fantastic. And a great plus point was the late checkout in the afternoon, 3PM, allowing for the baggy heads post Saturday Partay!! I was surprise at how local this hotel was to the centre of activity. Overall i would recommend staying there over any hotel in the vicinity.
