The hotel is in an outstanding location virtually over the ocean. Our room had a view to the bay and was more than spectacular. We had a balcony that was sensational to sit and watch the sunset, the beach, the city, etc. However, the hotel is in an older building, that looks good on the outside, but is quite uncomfortable inside. The worst was the bathroom. It had a shower 1/2 the size of a standard minimum size shower and was simply imposible to shower without knocking you elbows in the walls or hard enclosure. It was also unkept and looked dirty. The balance of the bathroom was not much better. The room was of a good size, but the bed was just double size and of questionable quality. Hallways, elevator, and all common places in the hotel were odd and unpleasant, except for the dining room that although it doubles as a hallway, it has a magnificent view. If you want to be at the right place in Rapallo and give view and access to the beach great importance, this hotel is for you. If you priorize comfort, then look for another hotel.

Welcoming and helpful reception staff especially as there are only a few parking spaces and they told us where to go. Were able to get a space next morning. We had a fabulous sea view and would recommend asking for one of these as rooms on the road side would be noisy and dark. One of the young men in restaurant wasn't very welcoming but everyone else was great especially Barbara and Tiziana. Short walk to train station and boats are a minutes walk away. Food good. The private beach is actually a slab of concrete.

Receptionist was very welcoming and friendly. could get the room two hours before the official check in time at 3pm. wifi access is complimentary (plus), but works only in the lobby (minus). Breakfast buffet is boring, however the scrambled eggs are phenomenal. Had room with sea view and own small terrace, but the terrace was also facing to the road, what made it a noisy room. Try to get a room at the sea side with view of the nice old little castle, then your stay will be a great one!

Well what can I say? An absolutely spectacular position, right on the water directly overlooking the 16th Century Fort and across to Portofino. We had a beautiful suite with a king size bed, lounge area, large balcony enjoying that fabulous view and an excellent bathroom - Room 209. We managed to get free parking in front of the hotel and the reception staff were extremely helpful. We only had two nights here and loved it so much we tried to extend our stay but unfortunately it was the end of the season and they were closing the hotel as soon as we left. Would recommend this hotel to anyone - for the position, the quality of the room and the staff. Would come back in a heartbeat!

This is how an Italian Riviera hotel should be: in a good position right on the seafront of a particularly pretty bay. It's a small, no frills place which knows that it's best to point the guests at the views and feed them well. The supplement seems a small price to pay for your own little balcony with table and chair. Although my single room was on the small side - my suitcase and I had to fight over the floor space - it is barely noticeable on a summer's day when you can sit outside and privately enjoy the blissful view. The staff are pleasant and the restaurant is good with both traditional Ligurian dishes and contemporary variations. You can eat indoors or by the sea if you plan ahead enough to reserve. There are also cookery courses which I'm sorry I missed. The only drawback was the breakfast coffee which was horrible. It's better in the hotel bar.

After reading other reviewers' comments we decided to book a room with balcony and sea view and it was worth it. Not only was there a beautiful view over the bay, the room was very quiet as there was no road between the hotel and the sea. We also had a comfortable sofa in the room. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic view over the castle, marina, bay and Portofino in the distance and well worth the extra to get a sea view. Relatively easy walk from the railway station to get to the hotel and close to the town centre and promenade with associated cafes /restaurants. Staff were very friendly and an excellent breakfast.

What a location for a hotel. The room was a little small, but the having a balcony with the view of the ocean was awesome. Overall, this was a great place, in a great location with a great value for the money. The staff was very helpful and very nice - I would without a doubt stay there again.

We were led to believe that the rooms were spacious. Ours was definitely not. When we asked for something larger, they said "thats what we got". For $300 a night, we expected more than a worn bed and 6 sq feet of floor. Amenities circa 1950. Great view and balcony though. And very helpful desk staff on other matters. nice breakfast.

We requested and confirmed with the hotel by email that we wanted a non-smoking, quiet, seaview, double bed room with a balcony and full breakfast. We got it! Room 410 was quiet with a fantastic view. Room had a small shower. Barbara, The Signora, and other staff were helpful in every way imaginable. With a 4th foor seaview room you can sleep with the sound proof double balcony door open. The location of the hotel was central to boats and trains which made it easy to explore Portofino, Santa Margherita, Cinque Terra, and other areas. Based on the room we had and staff responsivness, this is more than a three star hotel. One recommendation would be to provide directions walking from the train station to the hotel. The Venere reviews of this hotel were also very helpful and accurate. We would definitely stay here again.

The front desk staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly - they were marvelous. The location was excellent. The room was stark and the bathroom really small, but the air conditioner worked like a charm. The 2nd level patio overlooking the sea and the castle was under-used and beautiful.

A great hotel with a very welcoming, warm, helpful staff. The location is excellent and is a good base for exploring the Italian Riviera. The train station is just round the corner. The rooms needs a bit of refurbishment, but if you book a sea view room that becomes the least important thing as the view from the balcony beats it all.

The hotel is very well located. It is just in front of a nice beach and a charming castle. The room is spacious and clean with a wonderfull view to the beach and sea. For those who wish to visit Cinque Terra, Portovenere, Genova and other places in the Italian Riviera, the city of Rapallo is ideal. It is a very charming city and those places are easily reacheable by train. The station is just two blocks from the hotel. Other good points about the hotel was the quality of the breakfast and the silence of the room.

This was our second visit to the hotel as we had stayed there during our honeymoon 3 1/2 years ago. We asked for the same room (414) and they graciously obliged after also showing us a much larger and newly renovated room on the second floor. The staff is great and very accomodating...the lift was being serviced when we arrived and they helped us carry our luggage up 4 flights of steps! This hotel is in a great location, next to the castle and close to the shopping promenade. The restaurants below on the boardwalk are great for just sitting and watching the world walk by. The hotel is renovating the rooms on the 4th floor this year...we will definately stay here again if and when we return to Rapallo!

I loved this little hotel. I had a single room with a small balcony overlooking the fort and bay. While the bathroom was very small it was clean and functional. The staff were all very helpful, welcoming and friendly. I chose to eat in the restaurant in the evening and the quality of the food was very good. Ferry to Portofino, San Fruttuosa, etc leave from nearby. Also in the summer ferries to Cinque Terre although in October I took the train which was only a 5 minute walk away. The cable car to Montallegro is also well worth doing and an easy walk from the hotel. Rapallo is a lovely holiday destination with a market on Thursday and a good selection of shops and places to eat. I thoroughly recommend.

We have visited Italy many times, however this was our first time visiting this area. We quickly found that Rapallo is perfectly placed to visit all the surrounding areas and this hotel is central to all transport, restaurants or just walks along the waterfront. The staff were very helpfull in all regards. They assisted with all of our needs including restaurants, sightseeing and boat and train schedules. The rooms were clean and simply furnished, and for Europe quite large. If possible get the sea view it is well worth the extra Euros. Our room #210 second floor with a great view. There is an internet conection for guests and free wifi in the lobby. For sight seeing to Portofino or Cinque terra the hotel is a few minutes from either the boat dock, bus or train station. Our rate included breakfast and it was quite good and plenty to eat. I would recommend this hotel to any one visiting Rapallo

The hotel is 5 mins from the train station, and on the water. Ask for room 414!!! We had a relatively large room with an excellent ocean view. There was even a small fridge in case you wanted to buy groceries or snacks. No A/C there but there's an ceiling fan and with the balcony open it's good enough. The staff was extremely kind, and the cost was reasonable (140E/night Aug '08). The area is lovely, take the ferry to Portofino or the other way to Cinque Terre. The beaches are rocky so if you want sand, hop on the train and head for Savona. The Genova acquarium is also a quick train ride away. We would highly recommend Rapallo, and Hotel Italia, for your stay in the Italian Riviera!!

The stay at the hotel Italia e Lido was very pleasant. The hotel is quaint with friendly staff and a location which is spectacular. The train station is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. This is best hotel stay we have had in 25 years of travel. This should be a 6 star hotel in a 6 star environment with 6 star personal. We had a wonderful time and we had to stay an extra 2 days. Elsa and Barbara and most professional and friendly hotel staff we have found. The location of the hotel overlooking the fort in the harbour and its central location on the promenade in rapallo is exceptional and one for best stays in Europe recently. Fabulous property right in the heart of Rapallo. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We asked for and received a room overlooking the water and the terrace was the perfect place to watch the world go by. We thought the lack of air conditioning might be a problem when we arrived but the fan and the sea breeze kept everything cool. The downside of needing the balcony door open at night was the noise from the street....Bathroom was exceptionally tiny but we didnt spend much time there so no big deal. Would definitely recommend and would certainly stay there again if we were to go back to Rapallo

My partner and I enjoyed our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The exception was a lady in the breakfast room who was unpleasant. However, after complaining to reception, the lady was pleasant the following morning. - Of particular interest to us was that when we could not arrive on the day booked because the Italian railways went on strike and left us stranded at the French border, the hotel did not charge us for the day even though it was entitled to it contractually. We only learnt about the strike as we arrived in Nice on the way to Rapallo and could only ring the hotel on the arrival day in the afternoon. We very much appreciate this attitude. Overall, we recommend the hotel, its central location and the relaxing atmosphere surrounding it. Wal Moser, Geelong, Victoria, Australia

A group of us had a single, a double and a triple room for three days. all rooms were seaside and it was definitely a great view. the included breakfast was quite good with fruit , eggs , bacon , sweet rolls , cereral , juices etc. on two occasions we had to leave before breakfast was served and they provided rolls , fruit , juice , and coffee before 7:00am. the rooms were good sized and very clean. noise was minimal. the triple was on a corner and all three rooms has a nice balcony with tables and chairs to sit out on. you can see the nearby fortress , the ocean and the city prominade from the balcony. we ate at the hotel restaurent once and the food was good and reasonably priced although the selection was a little limited. the view was very good. we visited portofino , santa margerita and cinque terra all of which were breathtakingly beautiful. i would reccommend taking the ferry to portofino and s. m. as they are less than 5 miles from rapallo. the bus is less expensive but the view not nearly as good. both are inexpensive (bus 1 euro-ferry 6-9 euros).in rapallo take the cable car to top of city. view is good and ride itself is like an amusement park ride. ferry is 150 meters from hotel. hotel/bus station 5 minute walk. lots of shops in all three cities. We stayed a month and in 12 hotels/bed and breakfast and this was in top 3 for everyone. well worth the money. hotel staff was good but special thanks to barbara who had several very good suggestions. ony problem is we took an early train to la spezia to see cinqua terra. (7:30 am) we found the train to first cinqua terra town from la spezia did not leave till 10:00. however after getting there first trail between cities was beautiful. rest of trail was same but it got hot in afternoon so we took train. ferry a prettier option but was not running due to rough seas. the cinqua terra pass we got in la spezia covered train to rionaggore , trains between cities and shuttle buses in city. well worth 7 euros at end o

I really enjoyed my stay! It was only one night (waiting for rest of my friends to arrive in Italy) but it was relaxing, clean, well located, everyone was friendly, and the view outside my window was exceptional! I couldn't park my car out front (no room -- a very small lot) but the desk person was helpful in pointing me to a lot just down the street that worked out fine. Overall, highly recommended!

We had a very comfortable stay at this hotel. Our room overlooked the sea and out towards the castle. The breakfast was very good, with a wonderful view of the ocean. Rapallo is a lovely town with a great promenade along the seafront. We took a ferry trip to San Fruttoso and walked through the national park to Portofino - fantastic views. What a gem. Our oversized suite right on the bay! You should see the pictures we took to impress our friends!. Free parking not 30 feet from the front door. Elevator is not accessible without using some steps however. Good breakfast and a helpfull staff. Good computer usage for 3 euro/hr. Close (3 blocks) to train/bus station, numerous restaurants on the bay within walking distance. Rapallo was a convienient jumping off point to Cinque Terre even if it is further away than Lavanto. An easy bus ride to Portofino. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

The location of the hotel is excellent: directly on a small beach, 50 meters to the boat/ferry (which runs to Portofino and Santa Margarita Ligure and Vernazza/Cinque Terre, 300 meters to the railway station and bus stop and 50 meters to all restaurants and shops. I had a single room with a king-size-bed and a balcony. From the balcanoy as well as from the bed I had a beautiful panorama view over the sea and the castle. When you close the window, then there is no traffic noise. The staff told me that each room of the hotel is different. You should notice that all beaches on the Ligurian Coast are very very small (for instance in front of this hotel 15 meters only), full with people and of dark sand and stones. But I enjoyed swimming in the morning between the hotel and the castle. I highly recommend this hotel and I will definitively return next year.

I was a middle aged Australian female travelling alone. In a 4 month round-world trip El Lido was a highlight and possibly the best hotel for me. I was a mid range stayer so this, for the price, was quite luxurious. Unable to find a Cinque terra town online (you can easily pick up rooms when at the towns), I chose Rapallo and El Lido as being close to what I wanted to see and do. Rapallo on Italian Riviera is central, and compared to French Riviera quieter and less expensive. Cinque Terra towns so accessable, on main train line, Genoa-LaSpezia, fast intercity train or slower cheaper local trains, as well as local buses and ferries (including a Sunday morning one to the Cinque terra.) Hotel, a 10 minute flat stroll from the station (and look for the ramps at the far end of the platforms if you have a heavier bag). Hotel is right on the foreshore. The "yellow" hotel directly overlooking the fort. Unmissable. Ask for a sea view and there you have it. Directly on the sea with a balcony. Absolutely beautiful. Check in service and desk receptionists were all helpful, kind, English speaking, attentive and interested. The breakfasts in a big breakfast room overlooking sea were excellent. Much to choose from. Long hours so there was no panic or hurry. The restaurant in the hotel was very good and there are others nearby on the esplanade path in front of the hotel, and fast foods around and behind. It is right in the thick of things and yet when I was there, quiet at night. Double glazed windows which you can open right out onto the balcony to get the beautiful fresh sea air. There's a small well-used (pebbly) beach in front. If you get some noisy guests on a nearby balcony at night I'm sure the management would do something about it. The rooms were always spotless and attended to quickly each day. Soft white towels and toiletries and hairdryer in bathroom. I loved my 5 night stay here. I unwound and relaxed and got a lot done and seen in a very easy way. Strongly recommended

This hotel is better than expected. From the greeting at reception to the reluctant goodbye when we had to leave. The staff is very helpful and for us a plus is that they spoke English well. The restaurant for dinner is excellent and priced on par with others in town. Breakfast room has great view of the water. The hotel is walking distance to train station and the ferry is closer. There is private beach, extra charge, which is typical of Italy. All in all the best location, wonderful owner on premises, friendly and helpful staff. Sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Hotel was very clean in the right spot and the staff were very good. Spoke English. Was dissapointed that the private beach was just a concrete slab and cost 20 Euros a day to use or £13. This was not pointed out on the web site and could have cost over £130 for ten days. Otherwise Hotel excelent and well recomended. Would go again. That speaks for itself. R.C.Spanswick

The welcome when we qrrived was excellent. This appears to be a family run hotel. Breakfast was very good, the view from our room was lovely, overlooking the castle and marina. We liked it so much we stayed an extra night. Very good value for money. We would have no hesitation to recommed the hotel and look forward to going back one day.

This is my third stay in this hotel over the past 12 months and I enjoyed every minute. For anyone who wishes to use Rapallo as a centre for sightseeing in Liguria, I must recommend this hotel. Considering it is only a 3 star hotel, I found everything about the hotel first class. Every effort was made to make me feel at home and nothing was too much trouble. I look forward to going back again.

I had an adequate room overlooking the sea with a small balcony with a fantastic view. The only drawback to hotel is that it is formed of two combined buildings and their floors are at different levels so one has to go up stairs and down a hall and then back down a few steps. The elevator was rather slow coming at times, in addition.

Rapallo is an amazing city. Hotel Italia E Lido, has so much history. The old photographs of the hotel are hung througout it! It is the best location in Rapallo, we had a balcony room that literaly hung over the Castello Lungomare, with the best view I have ever had in a hotel room. We cancelled our reservations immediately after arriving and seeing our room for the other two hotels that we had booked and the front desk was glad to oblige our request to stay in the same room for two more nights at the same cheap rate! The only downside would be that they wouldnt give out any reccomendations for restarunts because they had one on the premisis. But, we found our own. It is a great location to explore cinque terre from, seing as it is only a 45 min train ride from Rapallo to Montoresso al Mare. We would stay at italia e lido again in a heartbeat!

Great hotel to unwind, especially in the Spring. Staff was excellent and helpful. The view to die for. The only issue was the noise of the waves! We were on a lower floor, close to the beach. Would recommend a higher floor away from the beach. Would definitly come back for a longer stay.

Needless to say, we did not reach Rapallo until around 11 pm local and we were greeted by the smiling face of the attendant at the front desk (cannot remember her name, sorry!). We parked directly in front of the hotel (without having to pay, I might add), and had no problems checking in so late. This was a great place to stop while on our way to Chianti from Nice, and would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay along the Ligurian. The woman at the front desk spoke excellent English, German, Italian and French, so expect to have no problems with communication.

Apart from this visit, I have only stayed once before and that was in April this year.Yet on my arrival at the hotel, I was welcomed by the management like an old friend ! I was amazed that they had remembered me, considering the number of guests which pass through the hotel ! I gave the hotel an excellent review last time and my opinion has not changed.I look forward to going back again. The hotel had been thoughtful enough to gave me my old room with its marvellous views of the promenade and the castello. I cannot write too highly of this hotel. It provides everything a holidaymaker needs.

What a wonderful hotel! Our room and bath were spacious with french doors to a small deck with the most captivating views of the Mediterranean Sea, port to Rapallo and the world. The hotel restaurant had fabulous food and were very accomodating! We had a great time.

During a three week visit to Italy, after staying in many hotels, this one was the best quality for price. Nicely located in front of the sea with a fantastic view, rooms are clean and spacious. Free parking for car in front of the hotel. I highly recommend it.

The staff were extremely helpful. The seaview rooms were free from traffic and train noise. The restaurant is very good and attracts local customers (a good sign). Parking is a problem which we overcame by luck. This hotel made our stay in Rapallo quite memorable.

Just returned from a 1 night stay at The Italia & Lido Hotel (Sept. 2005). Lovely location on the harbor with a view over the little Castello and onto the sea promenade. Conveiently located to walk to all the city sites & shops. Staff were friendly, spoke English very well (German & Italian, too) and were quickly responsive to our requests for pillows, towels, etc. The hotel was immaculately clean. Did not have an iron or ironing board available but they did offer overnight laundry service. The Lido Restaurant was excellent: nice selection of fresh seafood, reasonably priced and great service. Our only area of dissatisfaction was the size of the toom. We booked a sea-view room with balcony via Venere.com. Upon arrival the reception explained that our room was "the smallest" but the only one still available with a balcony & sea-view. To say the room was small is an understatement. We felt it was a single room with a double-bed installed. The bath was equally small but nicely outfitted and spotlessly clean. Our walk-in closet at home is literally larger than the room we stayed in (bath included). Small by any standards--not just an over-reaction to the typically smaller Euro hotel rooms. Overall, we would recommend The Italia hotel to friends; but be certain to state you will not accept a closet in lieu of one of the larger beautiful sea-view rooms. For only 1 night the small room was tolerable & the balcony was a life-saver! Rapallo was beautiful, with lots of shops and some old centro sites worth seeing. Well worth a small room at a very reasonable price.

I would highly recommend Italia e Lido. All of our requirements for safety, cleanliness and location were exceeded. Excellent value. Our room was very spacious and had two accesses to an ocean view, overlooking a 16th century castle. I'm glad we stayed in Rapallo and took the quick boat trips to Santa Margherita and Portofino.

After arriving and seeing other properties in the area, we felt we made a terrific choice. The location was excellent and we had a balcony with a view of the sea. The hotel staff was superb Alexander & Barbara couldn't have been nicer (I even remembered their names). They spoke beautiful English. There is no air conditioning so you need to keep your windows open, only problem is some nights there were boardwalk parties that went on later than we wanted to be up so we closed the window and it got a bit stuffy. We would stay here again.

We visit Hotel Italia e Lido during week 29 this summer (2005). Two adults with a 2,5 year child. For the price you really get a great stay. The breakfast are great and the view are wonderful. Two things who could be better. The room was a bit small with a child and a stroller but it did work. Also the problem to get a parking place for the car. The hotel has seven right outside the hotel which always were crowded. Overall we are really satiesfied with the stay.

We loved this little hotel. The location couldn't have been better; the view from our balcony was spectacular. The front desk staff was very courteous and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel was a short walk from the train station which negated the need for a taxi. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone.

If you are looking for a good-value, well-situated hotel in a beautiful, medium-sized resort town, look no further. The hotel provided everything as promised and more. We booked a standard room and were delighted to find that it had a balcony with a magnificent sea-facing view overlooking the fort -just like the publicity picture (which is so seldom the case). We also had a free parking right alongside the hotel, but these are limited in number. There is a pleasant foyer and restaurant on the sea-front. The adjoining beach is small and pebbled, but delightful and picturesque, and the adjacent bay is ideal for swimming. The ferry sevice to Portofino and Santa Margherita has a landing a short distance down the beachfront. This trip is a must. Far preferable to visiting Portofino by car or train. The views are unforgetable (stop off at Portofino and take the mountainside walk to the point then have lunch at the harbour). A small gripe is the breakfast coffee (like most Italian hotels coffee-making facilities are not available in the rooms): this is served from a machine and has the appearance of grey mud and is almost tasteless. We discovered at subsequent venues on our travels that the answer is to place an order for fresh coffee with a member of staff (cappuccino is great in the morning); this is usually free with breakfast. I have saved the best for last. The reception staff were REALLY friendly and helpful (both before arrival and during our stay). They all spoke good English and were keen to oblige. Friends of ours who could not get in at Italia e Lido (understandably popular so book in advance)took a room in the Miro hotel -same sort of price range - and found the front staff both unable and unwilling to speak English and unhelpful to the point that they abandoned attempts to make a simple 'phone call. Recommended and would definitely stay again.

This hotel is an absolute gem. We had a room, with balcony overlooking the water. It was a big suprise to us that we would get such a nice room. I am highly recommending this hotel. If driving, parking is not a problem.. but arrive early as they have limited parking.
